Couldn’t get this one fired up today…motor didn’t make a sound. Also the rear tires are constantly flat..super annoying! It’s tractors like this that make me wanna get outa the hobby

I have been reading and watching this post since its start. I have not commented before. It is easy to give advice on what to or not to do in things like this specially after the fact and even to make a little fun of it since the recipient is such a good sport. I am not going to do that. What I am going to do is to say how sad and unscrupulous human beings can be for the sake of profit. But let’s not worry about them because they will get their due sooner or later in their miserable existence. A few things I gather from reading this. It’s a few lessons for the rest of us. Through the disappointment and feeling really violated ,Kevin still made the best of the trip and of the situation. He wasn’t secretive about it but shared the whole thing unlike what many would do. He proceeded to fix the problems specially the safety related ones and makes the best of a bad situation. And finally, although sadly due to someone’s dire situation an opportunity to make everything work out surfaces. The lesson here is that good things always happen to those who deserve it and mean well in life. And Kevin, as far as your comment that neither you or your RV wouldn’t “fit in” in those places, don’t ever think like that. You and your family fit anywhere you want to be and it would be those that don’t think you fit in that do not in fact fit in and deserve the privilege to know you and your family.

My management is also quite understanding...she doesn't make me go shopping with her when it snows.

This morning before work, I was able to get all the running tractors out today. Since it’ll be dark when I get back I figured i’d check things out before I left. The C-141 started and ran like a top. So I took that for a spin to get things circulating. All had the rear end oil and engine oil checked as well.

My dad's side of the family is from far southwestern New York, a bunch of dairy farmers. I have a cousin who moved his entire dairy operation from there to Muleshoe, TX (he had a herd of 600-700 at the time)....... that was maybe 20 years ago??? He told me that the last winter he spent in NY, they had 309" of snow!!!!!! CRAZY!!!!!!! (Of course, that's the infamous lake-effect snow machine in action)

My wife's best friend that passed away years ago used to make an exceptional Pork Stuffing for Thanksgiving. They had their big Family dinner, we had ours. An annual tradition was that later that evening, we would go over to their house. It was my task to de-bone their turkey for them to pick on or make turkey sandwiches, in return we would come home with a container of her Pork Stuffing. That with mayo, white turkey meat, and cranberry sauce on fresh rolls made for wonderful Friday sandwiches....

I guess I will be one of the ones to disagree. Transmission frame and front axle are the same as bigger horses (ok front axle is bit narrower.) Only real difference is the size of the wheel/tires and the Techy 6 hp vs Kohler 7 or 8 hp. It will not pull a Moldboard plow or a tiller (well it will pull one of old self powered ones) or mid mount grader blade. ...but other than that it can plow snow, blow snow, mow grass and pull stuff. The replacement HH70 on my L-107 is 34 years old and has been used consistently since installation, the last 25 years 4 to 6 times a week in good weather 2 or so per week in the winter. . She is starting to smoke a bit on start up but when I use the recoil two pulls cold one hot. ...and she will pull away immediately no warm up required like some of my kohlers. And she is a lot easier to get on and off than her bigger brothers... Sorry I really like Ranger

The coastal effect on snowfall is quite strong. Prevailing winds here are mostly westerly so being a quarter mile downwind from the widest bay on the Hudson River (Haverstraw bay), and at less than 100’ of elevation but backed by hills well over 500', we see less snow (25-ish inch average) and more slush than the higher areas a few miles east (50-ish inches). Hence my decision to abandon clog-prone snowblowing for a plow.

When I worked at Advance if any of us had a dead or weak battery we would go through the core pile with the tester looking for one that was at least close enough to what we needed and would pass a test. Then we swapped it for our dead one. In three years nobody I worked with ever bought a battery. We changed them a few times a year, bit we never bought one.

I have used them for slides. Expensive and the quality was suspect. I don't want to send the tapes anywhere before I know what's on them. I don't need a bunch of digital files of me walking around with the button pressed and the lens pointed towards the ground.

I've shared Maps like this in the past. I know some of you get a kick out of it like I do. I live in the circle of red in Southwestern Maine. My work is based out of Portland. As you can see, they get an average of about 20" of snow less than I do. Luckily I have understanding management and if the weather is gross we just don't drive.

I have found that over charging can be as a result of poor grounding of the regulator. I've had them go as high as 23 vdc. I cleaned the back where the mounting screw goes through, and cleaned where it mounts to the tractor. Problem solved.

When growing up, my family always had oyster stuffing. Now we usually have two stuffings at Thanksgiving, one regular bread-type, the other cornbread.

With so many tractors, batteries have been a source of aggravation for me for a long time. I have ONE Interstate battery. I just knew that spending the extra money would get me past the "get what you pay for", and it would be worth it. Sadly, it's weak every time I want to start the tractor. If I plan to use it, I have to put a charger on it the night before. Point being? Batteries are one area that have become hit or miss at best. Cheap, no name batteries are as likely to be better than not. Name brand means nothing anymore. I have two "powersports" batteries that are half the size of L&G batteries with double the CCA and longevity. They will spin a K321 over like a sewing machine and 10 crank attempts before fading. All of my tractors have quick disconnect cables. At least this way I can swap one in 5 minutes with minimal effort as well as hard disconnect if I suspect a drain. I use whatever works...

Once we filmed a soda can in a cast iron dutch oven with oil. It was over a campfire. Stand back. There is a distinctive click then a 14 foot completely vertical fireball. I wish I had that to share... As we all know, toss then darn it I found a use for that. Also no clue of the use. Careful out there on those webs gents and gals! Shipping film that I know the content seems scary. And shipping recorded business I am unaware is scarier. As @Maynard said the low end is camera on and no real purpose. Poor mans emergency load test...Hook up your multimeter to the battery should be about 12.6 pull spark plug wire...Start cranking engine voltage will quickly drop..if it goes below 9 volts battery is toast..

I can probably get a leak down tester. Think theres one at my moms. Still going thru dad's tools etc since his passing in April. Im just disgusted now so I've lost interest for a bit. May just consider a complete re-power as an option. Wanted to be able to use it this winter. Time is what I dont have much of. Finally catching up on everything I had to neglect for the 4mo my dad was sick. Helping mom with stuff at her house. She has no intention on moving. 4200 sq ft house on 5 acres is a lot of work especially for 1 person.

Mirepoix plus garlic, de glaze with white wine then some house made chicken stock. season to taste. pour over your smoked oysters and diced sauteed bird insides. Pour mixture over the sourdough you gently toasted and dried the day before. Bake covered till at least 165 degrees. Good olive oil drizzle, finish salt pepper as needed. Top with some fresh chive from the garden and... Face hole I like to add fresh bay and fresh herbs from the garden to the poix and stock. Family does not. Mom made the boxed stuff with added anchovies and Worcester. I hated stuffing as a kid. Now I want stuffing need to source the seafood and get it on the cold smoke!

I mounted the receiver on the left side of my 312H. I can still use the mule drive and deck and fully open the hood. Best of all, I can see the ball when lining up to the trailer hitch.

Lower steering shaft support block ready to install. Block has new bronze bushings installed top and bottom. Bolts are 1-1/2" long and fit perfect even though parts manual calls for 1-3/4". Lower steering shaft showing slotted nut. Nut removed from lower steering shaft then shaft greased where it slides into block. Block slid onto lower steering shaft then bolted to frame. Bolts torqued to 30 ft/lb. Grease fitting installed. Never seize applied to shaft threads then washer and nut loosely installed. Overview of steering assembly as installed.

I recently scored two C-160’s. I’m not messing with the paint, I just power washed them and sprayed them with WD-40.

My dear friend George Sleezer gave me this beautiful viper red 656 that was his pride and joy. I’m so grateful for this, but sad to see he’s getting out of the hobby due to old age. It came with a sickle mower and tub cart. More pictures to come.

@rmaynard Bob your showing your age when you say slides!! I remember as a kid, the family gathering around to watch slides. No we didn’t have one of those fancy carousel projectors, we had the one where you had to manually slide the thing in and out. I can still remember the sound it made. My mom still has a bunch of them that were my dad’s. I’d like to get a projector and view them. Seems like a good winter’s night thing to do. Nowadays I bet half of the population doesn’t even know what slides are!

And the actual issue just may be a poor (painted, oxidized, corroded or otherwise compromised) ground at the rectifier to sheet metal mounting bolts. Many of us add a secondary ground cable from the battery negative terminal to one of the rectifier bolts. It must be properly grounded, at all times while running, for it to do its job...

Shops and parts stores normally have a load testing tool. Both will usually test for free in hopes you’ll buy the replacement there. 😁 Of course, you want to witness the testing! BTW, the rationale for load test is that it’s common for a battery at rest (or on a maintainer) to test to a useful voltage but when under load, as when cranking to start, it cannot sustain that voltage.

I make a Cornbread stuffing with sausage and cranberries.

I got my spare ram resealed tonight after dinner. I still have to reseal the hy-2 pump I bought last year, and then that set will go on the tractor before winter, but I can't find anything in the shop right now. Once I can move the lift and some other things to the new section that will improve.

We have a Deka outlet only 15 minutes away. He sells ‘blems’ (functionally fine but blems in the case or lettering). Usually good pricing and they seem to last as long as any others.

Today was maintenance day. It's been steadily busy at work. I haven't had them out since the end of October. I charged the C-141's battery up as it was dead. I may have a short somewhere that I'll have to look into. I also pumped up the 308's and 312's left rear tires. I took the 308 for a spin as the left rear tire was starting to come off the bead before i added air.

Good compression on each cylinder? Any signs of leaking head gaskets? Is it firing on both cylinders? What happens if you pull one plug wire? Does it die or stay running? I've seen that engine run surprisingly well with loose heads and leaking head gaskets. Also check for intake manifold leaks and a possible clogged exhaust. I have one here with loose baffles in the muffler. They can also suffer from loose valve seats like Onans.

I love my Onan until I don't!!! Last week while pushing snow, it all of a sudden quit on me. Luckily I was right in front of the garage and didn't have to push it too far. After some quick troubleshooting, I came to conclusion that I had erratic and/or no spark when trying to start. Rather than change one component at a time and wait for parts I decided to just purchase the all inclusive (and not so cheap) ignition component set on eBay. Only took about 4 hours to disassemble, replace the parts, reassemble and test. She's running good now. Also decided to change the oil and filter since I had such great access. IMG_8465.mp4
