We’ve had this full bumper replacement for an 88-98 Chevy sitting out in the weeds behind the tire barn at work for years. Brand new leftover from when we were a Ranch Hand dealer back before I even came to work here, and that’s been just shy of 8 years. Asked the boss a couple months ago what he wanted for it and he told me to just take it he was tired of mowing around it. Had a slow day so I rounded up some help from the young stout kid I work with and we pulled off the old grille guard and bumper and put the replacement on the old 1992 K2500 feed truck. Made a huge difference in the looks of the old truck, will look even better after I get around to putting the new tires and wheels I’ve got for it on.

Fatigue crack / break repair on the 12 hp belt guard. May have been a candidate for "JB Weld, but I like brass. My question is what's happening to the old art of Brazing? Don't let it become a lost skill!

Decided this C-141 needed some taillights. Upgraded the headlights while I was at it. Still contemplating how I want to setup auxiliary power for some beacon lights, with winter coming. This $300 tractor has turned out to be a really solid unit! I had to double check the fluids since there were no oil spots on my garage floor - I thought maybe everything had run dry!

Thanks to the wonders of email and the fine folks at NAPA, I now know that tomorrow is National Motorcycle Ride Day. My daughter and I are in, on her bike because mine still isn't running. She's a new rider, with very little on-road experience, so we're still in practice mode. But seat time is seat time. Anybody else?

With holiday dessert buffets coming up soon, National Cake Decorating Day is the perfect time to practice your technique! Halloween’s just a few short weeks away! Learning to create spooky ghosts, spiderwebs, pumpkins, and broomsticks from icing and fondant could be the perfect warm-up for embellishing cakes, cupcakes, and cookies with intricate snowy Christmas scenes a little later on. And think of all the fun you can have mixing frosting colors — like dyeing Easter eggs, but with lick-able spoons.

Flux core welding can do most of what brazing used to handle steel on steel. No gas. Cheap equipment.

Traded mine for a Jeep when I moved here in 2013. WAY too many zombies here to navigate 2 wheels. In the Midwest the major trepidation was deer. I will take that over the chimps watching yoo tube flying down the road. Have fun, be safe, enjoy the time with your progeny!

Me too, as I'm beginning to think I belong in one... But I'm guessing there aren't many "Grumpy old farts from the past" exhibitors in business these days. @c-series don Great pics of those old engines. Really makes me appreciate both current and old timer firemen. It takes a special person to risk so much regularly for people they don't even know!

I love being retired. I have a hard time relating to people who retire and then complain about being bored. I always have at least half a dozen interesting (to me) projects of my own choosing going on simultaneously. BTW, I like to kid about my wife's 'honey-do' list. She's a retired career lady who appreciates the fact that I value my time as much as she values hers.

Over the last few days in between work I’ve got my spare M12 buttoned up to possibly be run on the C-85. I also finally added a missing bowl gasket to the K341, once I brought them back from my parents house. I started to take off the shaker engine mounts. I’m going to set up the C-85 engine mount wise like the other three. And once I confirmed I had all the right and parking brake parts. After work I replaced the stretched parking brake spring and added a helper spring. I also lubed up the idler and rear end drive pulley.

Below is a picture of one of the three commodes (that I found) on the submarine. I assume these three toilets served the 80 men on board. 'Starkness of the innards" nails it. I can only imagine the smells of oil, diesel fumes, hydraulic fluid that was trapped within. Those of us who never served in the armed forces will never know. We fly our nation's flag proudly in front of our house. Not only to honor our son, who was a last gunner in convoys in Iraq, but to the millions who served proudly.

I sold my Suzuki 1800 Intruder due to the other nit-wits on the road. Too many close calls. At my age, I'm close enough with out pushing it!

@Handy Don I’ve been to the museum and the firemen’s home. I’m also a member of FASNY- Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. There is a beautiful library in the home that was paid for by a donation from a friend and deceased member of my fire department. My wife has threatened to send me to the firemen’s home more than once!! I tried to donate my own antique fire truck to that museum and they told me it was full and they had no more room. 1962 F-250 4x4 with a 250 GPM Barton-American pump. I got it with 1200 original miles and sold it with 1800 miles. Had lots of fun with it, parades, decorating it to take the kids trick or treating and even won a drafting competition with it. When I lost my indoor storage space I couldn’t bare to leave it outside after it had been stored inside its whole life. I ended up selling it to a fellow firefighter from New Jersey who gave it the home it deserved.

I think you are asking if the 5060 case's brake tab is in the same place as the for 8-speeds. It cannot be. Their brake drums are on different shafts that exit the case in different places. The 6-speed (and 3-speed) drums rotate clockwise when looking from the left side of the tractor. The 8-speed rotates faster and counter-clockwise.

Ok Kinda stopped now until I get the implements... I'll work on wire and controller routing... So, with each implement there is likely to be a different dead bottom... I'll just need to determine that with each implement and set it up... May bring the tractor with me when I pick up my goodies in a couple weeks... utilize your expertise in setting things up...

I hear what you're saying about the "drivers" and the deer. I always take a couple minutes before I ride to breathe deeply and consider what I'm about to do, and how dangerous it is. And it just occurred to me that I see deer as more predictable than humans in vehicles these days. Thanks for the well wishes, all of them!

Hey everyone - it's been a minute, but I wanted to say thanks for all the input and advice. Pleased to say the tractor started right up with a roar, and runs great. I have put the tractor up on local FB marketplace and we'll see how it goes. I agree that it would be nice to keep it in the family. We just are all busy and storage space is short... and it's time to share this with someone who will appreciate it for another 25 years. I am thinking I will add this to this forums classified in case anyone from longer distances might want to make an offer and come up to our neck of the woods. wh-running-sm.mov

Thanks for the reminder. The starkness of the innards of those vessels was a revelation but it was the racks of missiles on the cruiser that brought me up short. Some years ago I visited the Intrepid, an aircraft carrier now a floating museum in NYC. The exhibits and videos on the hanger deck in particular were quite intense. They painted a deeply moving picture of what the crew went through while trying to save the ship, and themselves, from a fire while under intense attack.

@oliver2-44 Hi Jim, You should be able to do what you are looking to do. Remember that the 11/44 gear teeth is positioned different because the axles on the 8 pinion are equal length...the axles are different lengths with the 10 pinion differential.

When I replaced the temp gauge in my D200 I found that the mechanical gauges sending unit would not fit in the pump head. Had to use electrical. I used a Sunpro at that time.

Steve, advancing a fire fighting line is a team effort. If done properly the nozzle man (first hoser as you called it) is somewhat of a pivot point. The positioning of the fire stream is determined by the people backing him up. If they go left the stream goes right, if they go down the stream goes up. As a volunteer fireman we would practice and develop our teamwork while having some fun playing "Push Ball"

Over the weekend we flew down to see my daughter in Charleston,S.C. and decided to go check out this museum. I must say that I was super impressed by the quality of the restorations of these trucks. Figured I would take a few pictures for you guys, I know how much you love pictures!!

You still dating girls? Hoe do you get away with that? 😁

Yes Steve, I have 8 speed cases and 8 pinion differentials, and want to build a 6 speed sourcing the minimum number of gears. I do recall a post where a member had to grind the end of a mushroom or 11/44 gear for clearance. @ebinmaine if you can look at you 2 transmissions and determine if the brake mounting flange is the same on both cases, I think the internals are sounding positive.

When there are two setscrews on a hub, I remove the one NOT over the keyway and withe the hub flush and the other setscrew tight, I use the tap drill (5/16") to go thru the hole to dimple the axle to a full drill point. reinstalling the setscrew does two things - the tip is below flush on the shaft to prevent walking. The same does not raise a burr to allow hub removal easier in the future.... IF there is only one setscrew, I add a second when the hub is off.

Usually when I feel like "doing nothing," my spousal unit says "nothing doing," and hands me her honey-do list. I try to sneak down to the dock at least once a week to make sure the chair is still in good working order and carry out extensive taste tests on local brewery products. Sometimes I even 'maintain a lookout' (for what, I don't know, but it's an easy job).

I've come to appreciate museums. Our road trip a couple of weeks ago included museums and other places that we found historic and interesting. The Erie Canal-- how do they get the locks to be so watertight?--Not only today but 200 years ago? How did they build a electric power house near the Niagara Falls in 1905 with a brick lined tunnel for water discharge some 2,200 feet long? The RV museum in Elkhart, Indiana was very interesting. I believe the one that was most solemn and thought provoking was the three navel vessels in Buffalo, NY. As we stood on those decks and hall ways, the four of us talked about how overwhelming it would be a 18,19 or early twenty's year old man climbing on board heading off in a vast ocean to fight in battles in countries they probably had never heard of? Museums give us a glimpse of days gone by. Thanks for posting these fire engines. Below is a picture of a display showing a few items used in damage control onboard one of the navel ships. The cork looking item near the letter "E" was to be driven into a hole left by a bullet to keep water out of the ship. No doubt one of our grandfathers or grand great grandfathers would have been expected to perform this duty.

Great job Eric, I've been gaining weight for 30 plus years. It's been a up and down ride, lose 20lbs then gain 25, losted 50lbs gained 60 back My weight got up to 360lbs November 24, dropped 20ish pounds, got to 344lbs by mid March, gained some back, went to my doc at the VA, my a1c was in the 9s, put me on ozempic, low dose got it down to 5.4,. Talked the pharmacist , trying another medication, appetite suppressant, (don't like taking meds but I got to lose this weight) Anyway, been plugging along and reading this post and I've been trying the fasting thing a little , 15- 20 hours. Seems to be working between the meds and fasting . As of this morning I've lost 81lbs down to 264.4 .plan on another 20- 30lbs. I go to the doctor on Monday, maybe cut back on some of my meds. Any way thanks for this post, and your journey, it helped out. Now if I can just cure my wheel horse addiction. Have a great day.
