10 pointsWheel weights put extra stress on hubs. After sliding it back out and tighten it, does it have two set screws my C-120 just had one, The second helps a lot. Replace the key with a new one also helps. I added a two piece collar behind the hub on my 312-8 help keep it in place. We miss you, drop in more often.

6 pointsSwapped a new to me Big Show seat to the 856. Also adjusted brake on same tractor. 1st pic after swap, 2nd pic before seat swap, and 3rd pic notice price and date on nos seat. I payed a penny more than that at big show from @Handy Don if I remember correctly.

4 pointsA few things guys...the #5073 is a 10 pinion, Limited Slip that is considered an 8 speed transmission...soooo the brake drum and linkage will be the same and a direct bolt in as an 8 pinion differential. With that in mind, you should only have to change out the differential & the mushroom gear...or vice versa. There is a Service Billitin that explains what needs to be done to change out a 6 speed 10 pinion differential to an 8 pinion differential. This change over SB (I think) says you only need to change out both the 10 pinion differential & mushroom gear for an 8 pinion differential & mushroom gear. Again, if you go this route, you do not have to mess with any linkage or brake drum. Both of the above transformations are designed to use the same transmission case that you already have. It seems you guys want to change a 6 speed case to an 8 speed case or change out an 8 speed case to a 6 speed case. Both will bolt in directly, but now you need to deal with all the linkage and brake drum. This is not all you would need to change out though. You also need to swap the cluster gear shafts, the mushroom gears, the cap and threw bearings on the left side of case. The bull gears and the small gear of the 11/44 tooth gear will mesh, but the length of the gears cut into the mushroom gear may be an issue. The 8 speed cases have the clutch on the left and the brake on the right. The 6 speeds and 3 speeds have the brake and clutch on the left side. I am not sure what a 4 speed does with their linkage. @953 nut had to drill new holes (2) to mount a different transmission on his 953 because he has a "Heavy Duty" original transmission and those holes do not match up with the other Uni-Drives. His 3 speed trans came with 1 1/8" axles and the "Bevel Gear Differential. I hope that hejps a little.

4 pointsThe interchangeability of transaxle components seems limitless. Paul @pfrederi put a limited slip from a Sundstrand in an eight speed and I put the differential from a 953 into a six speed. Some 1970 transaxles had Torrington B-348 bearings because of a temporary unavailability of 1533 bearings but if you remove the race from the end plate of the differential a 1533 will fit right on there or the Torrington could be pressed into the transaxle housing.

4 pointsI finally dubbed this one “Speedy.” Speedy is getting some plow day upgrades! I did some test and tuning with a new 10” plow that I’ve never had in the ground, and it’ looking like it’ll work out pretty alright. I’ve removed the coulter wheel and added a tool rod with pin to hold some wrenches in place. I gave the drawbar a plate that has a pin to slide a trailer tongue over, a spot for a trailer to pin to, or the plow to attach. Next, I used some scrap metal and leftovers to build a sliding front hanging weight. It tucks in nearly to the front of the hood when not extended, and runs out a little ways when in use. The long bar is solid 1.25”x3” steel. It’s heavy on it’s own, let alone the flywheel bolted to the end.

4 pointsGear lube on Ford N brakes is a pretty common problem over the years in my "collection". Since my hobby tractors are users, not show pieces, stuff happens. I am seldom on the road or even in high gear, so "perfect" brakes are not needed. Having said that my answer to thick pads that have become oil soaked is to get out my cutting torch and warm the face of the shoes, boiling the oil soak out to the surface. I repeat a couple times, wiping excess each time, then sanding the last time with 36 grit sandpaper. This is not as good as new shoes, but I can still lock up the wheels. I'm not recommending this, just telling you what I have done. It works for me at the speeds I use mowing or plowing snow.

4 points@Handy Don I’ve been to the museum and the firemen’s home. I’m also a member of FASNY- Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. There is a beautiful library in the home that was paid for by a donation from a friend and deceased member of my fire department. My wife has threatened to send me to the firemen’s home more than once!! I tried to donate my own antique fire truck to that museum and they told me it was full and they had no more room. 1962 F-250 4x4 with a 250 GPM Barton-American pump. I got it with 1200 original miles and sold it with 1800 miles. Had lots of fun with it, parades, decorating it to take the kids trick or treating and even won a drafting competition with it. When I lost my indoor storage space I couldn’t bare to leave it outside after it had been stored inside its whole life. I ended up selling it to a fellow firefighter from New Jersey who gave it the home it deserved.

4 pointsToday I got some quality seat time getting the leaf situation under control until another ton or so hit the ground. I used the 310-8 with 42" rear discharge deck to GRIND the first accumulation of leaves to a powder. About 90% of the leaves from the Poplar trees have come down so this is just the first of many such operations. Weather has been dry so the leaves chopped up so finely that the leaf sweeper wasn't even needed. They will just compost in place.

3 points@kpinnc It looks rather good though. Mine is still a good 5 footer. I’m on 4 or 5 times as well. Mine are workers so I wasn’t super critical about paint. I just kept having issues with trash in the paint and the uncured Bondo and pitting remnants. Knowing next to nothing about painting with a gun didn’t help. I ended up doing mine with a borrowed HF gun and it did a good job.

The minute he opens the door on the little white box in front of our house she shoots out the door of our house. The sad thing is that about all we get is junk mail--good grief! Now I'm going to be depressed all evening. You know what? I may have to send her a post card some time. That ought to elevate my status!

3 pointsWhat I'm dealing with is a young man wanting to put a 5060 on his 854. Looking at my 854 next to the 5060 I think the hardest part will be the hi/low shifter. Definitely not trying to swap internals.

3 pointsCas - the hub has "walked" inward, most likely due to an issue with the fit of the woodruff key and the slot in the hub. Is the keyway wallowed out??

3 pointsSome more detail on how I process venison and fish for freezing. I cut the deer steak, backstraps, and tenderloins in strips and by rolling in plastic wrap I get an air tight seal with out using the vac packer. You can see the shape in the pic. For the ground venison that I add 20% bacon, I do vac pack in one pound packages. I press them flat and square and use the back of a knife to make a + mark that gives me four 1/4 pound burgers. The ground meat has air that has to pulled out with the vac packer. I also vac pac fish and wrap everything in butcher paper to prevent the freezer burn and it is easier to mark and date.

3 pointsOverkill is the story here. Surprise! A double top plate allows for 24” center spacing on the roof rafters. I chose double plate and 16” centers. My span allowed 2x6s to be used. I chose 2x8s.

I try to sneak down to the dock at least once a week to make sure the chair is still in good working order and carry out extensive taste tests on local brewery products. Sometimes I even 'maintain a lookout' (for what, I don't know, but it's an easy job).

2 pointsOver the last few days in between work I’ve got my spare M12 buttoned up to possibly be run on the C-85. I also finally added a missing bowl gasket to the K341, once I brought them back from my parents house. I started to take off the shaker engine mounts. I’m going to set up the C-85 engine mount wise like the other three. And once I confirmed I had all the right and parking brake parts. After work I replaced the stretched parking brake spring and added a helper spring. I also lubed up the idler and rear end drive pulley.

2 pointsBrake shoe cleaning day at Deep Woods Tractor Repair: No local source for drums, I found one cork gasket at the Ford New Holland dealer, need 2. So on to Plan C. Clean everything as good as I can, then use Permatex Right Stuff to replace the missing cork gasket. Ought to get the brakes good enough for what I need to do with the tractor. I just need to hold it still on a hill.

2 pointsThat being said I don't think it would be a biggie to swap cases. Essentially removing all the components including bearings. Somewhere in this thread that's what was sorta asked. I think doing a bunch of marrying components from both a 6 and an 8 might be fun but a potential can of worms. Also a one pedal to a two pedal tractor has many more issues which is one of the reasons I decided to leave my Reborn B-80 as is. I'll be meeting the young man and his Dad tomorrow.

2 pointsExactly. The Limited Slip function is entirely contained within the differential/axle assembly. I have no idea if an LSD with axles would directly replace the 8-pinion differential and axles of an 8-speed. Will the bull gear mesh properly with the different final gear which is NOT carrying the brake drum in the 8-speed. Do the outer diff plates mate properly with the inner axle bearings? Are the axles the correct lengths? I believe I saw a document that instructed dealers on how to convert in the other direction, i.e. swapping an 8-pinion diff in to replace a 10-pinion LSD. Can anyone dig that up?

2 pointsDepending on how much metal is still there on the drum, it might be worth having them re-cut. Back in the “drum days”, this was a fairly common repair many shops were equipped to handle. A truck service center on the other side of the county were I live still does this.

2 pointsSo far I've had pretty good luck replacing some burnt out coils with this type of Tecumseh coil (As long as it fits under the flywheel) You cannot find one of those old Bendix coils for a K90 anymore as even the NOS coils have cracked epoxy and don't work. The laminated steel mount part can be ground to fit if it's larger than the square hole in the coil. It can be shimmed if the coil square is larger than the laminated piece. This was used at the big show on @Pullstart 's little antique Briggs engine. It fired up!

2 pointsJust returned from our first trip to England and most likely the only one. Friends who have been to London about twenty times said let's visit there so off we went for ten days. Did many of the newbie London tourist stuff. Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, theater, Churchill War Rooms, Bletchley Park, British Museum, Highclere Castle where Downton Abbey was filmed. Also a neighborhood pub with the son of another friend. We only scratched the surface. One could spend ten days in the British Museum alone. Our friends knew how to use the Underground (subway) and we traveled all about using it.
