9 pointsThe BBT aka Lead Logging Supervisor and I went off to the right side forest to get a few pieces of standing dead trees. 3? Small ash. A couple small maples. We sectioned them to 84" because we use 14" cuts of firewood. 6 pieces there. We hand hauled those 40 to 60 feet out to the pole trailer. Then brought that to the upper yard.

8 pointsSo……I figured I would celebrate my birthday with giving something away. As usual, if you are a forum supporter and your name is in RED, post up here (once) to get in on it. I’ll let it run till next friday and spin the magic wheel. Sorry, USA only Wheel Horse “generator” outlet cover. I have made a couple changes to these since this one. May even toss in some other stuff I have made fooling around.

7 pointsAt a local show today I scored this C-111 with a plow/weights/2 link chains for cheap $$$. No idea what my plan is. I really don’t need another plow here, sold off a couple plows this summer so I only have 5…and today I added another one back Into the mix

7 pointsTwo out of three are fully functional now. Third one is coming along pretty well.

5 pointsI found an old hydro drive, and somewhere along the line somebody thought it was a good idea to paint it and covered every dataplate on it. Look at these pictures...Can somebody identify what this is ? As big as the engine is I thought it was a 16HP, maybe a C160, but I got some of the paint off the engine plate and it looks like it says 10HP, the engine seems much bigger than that though. Is there any other numbers on the old Kohler engines to make identification It cranks, drives, the PTO works, good tires not rotted, deck is kinda crusty, and it's flithy, but it's got the old style floor shift drive control which I much prefer. I sold the 314H I had because I never could learn to love the column mount controls.

5 pointsNice work, so good that this info should have been in it's own thread under restorations. I think a lot of valuable info gets lost in here. I kind of look at this thread as a day to day tinker thing rather then rebuild/major repair thread. Hats off to Red Square It is one of the most organized places on the web to find info. Just my two cents.

4 pointsConsider National Taco Day, October 4 every year, a concentrated and intensified version of the “Taco Tuesdays” many restaurants offer in a bid to bring in Happy Hour-like crowds. Come to think of it, to further whet your appetite for the subject, get this: the phrase “Taco Tuesday” was actually trademarked across the country in 1989 by a Wyoming-based fast-food chain called Taco John’s, except in New Jersey, where the trademark had already been claimed by Gregory’s Restaurant & Bar back in ‘82. However, nobody needs to worry about the legality of what their dinner is called. On National Taco Day, we only need to grab some tortillas and stuff them with savory fillings, from the traditional carne asada, cheese, tomato, lettuce and sour cream, to more exotic gustatory delights like fish, chorizo, even tongue, to name only a few of the “meat component” alternatives. Even the word “stuff” is no accident; many believe that the word taco derives from the Spanish “ataco,” meaning “to stuff.”

4 pointsMy films are a bit delayed. Here is a shot of the current pool shed. So far, a splinter here and there has been my biggest bumps and bruises hurdle.

4 pointsI've been reluctant to put a deck on any of my tractors but I need to chop leaves so am going to put bearings in a mule drive and just do it. Looks expensive for two bearings but isn't everything expensive these days?
-
4 pointsI can't wait until your crap breaks down tomorrow and we get a pic of you doing the ride of shame in your own cart! ( I might even drill hole in that coil just to make it happen now )

4 pointsI bought new Craftsman tool boxes last year, after discovering that used ones are always beat up, and then discovering that new ones are still made in the USA! In the same factory where they've been made for 50+ years.

3 pointsGreat weather and a huge crowd!! I even bought a complete C-111 Wheel Horse! I have never bought a tractor here, just parts and tires and whatnot. Last pic is the tractor I purchased.

3 pointsThe 10 through 14 HP engines are physically identical and have 9 cylinder head bolts. The 16 HP has 10 head bolts. The only infallible way to determine the size of a 10 to 14 HP is to remove the cylinder head and measure the bore and stroke.

3 pointsIf you win, I will make you one for a horizontal outlet and pick another name for this one. 😁

3 pointsYesterday, I organized and consolidated the parts for my tractors. I took a few of the ones that sit more like the 308 for a little ride to clean them out, pumped up tires etc… I also added some cushioning to the C-141 as I took it on a quarter mile ride to a neighbors to do some yard work. Granted, while it is a tractor and almost 50 the vibrating parts buzzing got old after a while.

3 pointsVery good point. If your engine has the Delco Remy starter/generator you don't have to change anything. My K181 was "newer" with the lower mounted bendix starter so it gets in the way of the battery on a short frame.

3 pointsWhile 4WD or AWD is nice, it's not really necessary for loader work. It's the lack of power steering that always kept me away from buying a WH 300, 400, or 500 series Wheel Horse, and go figure, my 1st garden tractor with a loader lacked power steering, which was a 1999 White GT2055, which I bought new. A year later, I bought a used JD 425 with a 40 loader, which I had for 3 years, and I traded the JD 425 in on a JD 2WD X485 with a 45 loader, and it had power steering and a liquid-cooled Kawasaki engine with EFI. I used it for 11 years on a 5.5-acre spread. I could have bought a 4WD JD X575, X585, or a diesel X595; they had manual shift 4WD. But I didn't like their turning radius in 2WD. Well, in 2014 I bought a used 2012 JD X748 diesel with hydraulic front-wheel drive. I traded my X485 for attachments for my X748 and kept the 45 Loader. With a shimmed transmission, the X748 with a 45 Loader will pick up more weight than most subcompact tractors with a non-self-leveling loader. I have a JD compact with a loader as well. But I use that X748 for most loader work, as it can get in places most subcompact tractors will not fit. I still have the White GT2055 with a Kwik-way loader, but it's on sort of permanent loan to my older brother, who uses it for mulch and snow work. So he's not carrying heavy loads where it gets tiresome to use with the lack of power steering. I Bought the X748 for it weight not the AWD though it is a nice Bonus. The Deere AWD or Hydraulic front wheel drive tractors give you a tight 25-inch turn radius which is the same as the 2WD tractors I considered a 5Xi in 1999, but the lack of a 3-point hitch is what made me go for the lower-cost White GT2055 because it came standard with a Cat 0 3-point hitch. At that time, Master sergeants (E-8) didn't make the money they do today. For the size of the tractor, Toro should have had a 3-point hitch and diff/lock. My purchase of the used JD 425 gave me a 3-point hitch, rear PTO, diff/lock, and a loader powered by the tractor's onboard hydraulic system. That is, place Deere always seemed to beat the competition with their hydraulic systems. The Case and later Ingersoll hydraulic systems could actually run the Kwik-Way Loader. Kwik-Way only made loaders for the Case 400 and Ingersoll 4000 series. . The Case 200 or Ingersoll 3000 series could have run it as well. But Kwik-way didn't make a subframe for those tractors. I also have an Ingersoll 3016PS. Which we purchased new in 1992 because the dealer claimed the Kwik-Way Loader would work on it. I bought that because John Deere had dropped the 318. When I could finally afford one on an E-7's salary. But that's another story. But don't sell 2WD short for loader work. That 2WD X485 dug a loader-wide, 3-foot-deep by 100-foot-long trench for a drainage system I built for a driveway on my last property. For the Wheel Horse 300 through 500 series I think the Johnny Bucket Jr's are better suited for moving material . I just need to Buy a Johnny Bucket sub frame for my Wheel Horse 416H. I have a JB Jr for My Cub Cadet XT3GSX. I do agree foot Pedals make loader work a Lot easier though. With the white GT2055 you needed 3 hands to operate the Loader while Maneuvering as it also has Hand speed controls on the same side as the loader levers

3 pointsAlmost finished overhauling the 48-inch side-discharge mower deck for the GT18. Here's what I've done so far, more or less: Degreased and pressure washed the deck, inside and out...three times. Sanded areas of rust and flaking paint. Welded three small cracks that were just getting started. Straightened one of the anti-scalp wheel mounting brackets. Primed the underside with three coats of rusty metal primer and primer-sealer. Primed and painted the top. One of the spindle body castings was broken and another was corroded, so I replaced all three castings with new aftermarket ones. Tossed out the other parts that came with the new aftermarket spindles, due to quality and correctness issues. Installed new OEM Toro bearings in the spindles. Re-installed the original OEM bearing spacer sleeves. Installed one new Toro OEM spindle shaft, one good used Toro shaft, and re-installed one of the original spindle shafts. Installed new bolts/nuts of the correct sizes and types for the pulleys, blades, spindle mounts, and various brackets. Upgraded the plastic washer and bushing set for the sliding idler pulley bracket to a bronze bushing and UHMW polyethylene washers, which should be low-friction and impact resistant. Welded new axles (shoulder bolts) onto the anti-scalp wheel adjusting plates (as previously posted). Miscellaneous other repairs. I still need to install the new blades, a few more fasteners, and the chute, and it should be ready to mow. I haven't decided if I'm going to fab up some sheet metal to make a couple of belt/pulley guards. Before: Mostly done:

3 pointsFirstly, wondering why you need that pipe out. Secondly, VERY concerned that you are opening up the oil path connected to the hydro when the surrounding area is so dirty. That pipe carries FILTERED oil directly into the charge pump which also supplies makeup oil to the hydro pump/motor.

2 pointsI would like to know if there would be any interest in reproduction steel dash plates. I will make them if you guys show interest. These are the styles I could do, if you wanted a different style just comment what you want. Thanks.

2 points@Darb1964 thanks for the kind words, and mentoring as well! I do not plan to continue using this Muzzy broadhead. I’m not a fan of them at all once I threw some down range on the night before I planned to hunt! I ordered a few from Tooth of the Arrow. It’s a one piece solid 4 blade with a 1” cut. It’s machined to be well balanced and fly like field points. I have a special sharpener as well. The one arrow I had that would shoot well, I found the first third of it inside her when field dressing. Hopefully I’ll be able to use my brand new Carbon Express arrows with these new knives! Another thing I had in mind since I did not find the arrow, was to keep in mind that there was likely a set of razor blades inside when I had my hands inside her dark body. As for the quiver, I plan to keep it on the bow while I hunt. I will continually practice with it on as well.

2 pointsLike @Handy Don said I’m VERY CONCERNED that you are taking that apart without cleaning that area first. Any work you do will be negated if dirt gets in the hydraulic system. As a fellow owner of two Work Horse GT-1800’s I’m happy that you are trying to keep yours going. Please post pictures, we love pictures!

2 pointsYou're gonna want the longer filter. Besides making it easier to remove later, it works better with the big gasket that you absolutely should use for proper airflow on that rear cylinder.
-
2 pointsOn our 33e we k181 swapped it but ours was a s/g setup but we didn't have to modify the battery box, use a smaller battery or modify the hood but I don't know, it might be different on the 64 models.

2 pointsSo far as mechanical, the engine is direct bolt in. No mods required. Electrical will depend on whether your K181 has electric start or not. If electric start is needed, you'll have to swap the keyswitch and wire up for 12V ignition as with any other Kohler K series. You would also have to use a smaller "sports" battery and make a smaller battery box to clear the starter. This is the only fabrication that may be required. Mine is in the pic below. About $40 on the jungle site. It's been used for over a year now and works great. I cut my hood so it's easier to remove, especially with the larger Kohler under it. Not absolutely required but much better. No mention of the battery box fab but it is shown in a couple places in the build thread. Keep in mind the build I did made up the center console similar to what you have already, so much of the thread is devoted there. You won't have to do any of that. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/106594-another-project/?page=1

1 pointAll six of my Wheel Horse RJs out for some fresh air today! 1958 and 1959s. Wheel Horse made about 24,000 in those two years and $2.5 million in profit- enough to buy and build a modern factory on south side of South Bend, Indiana on Ireland Road! I was able to save both original tires on the 67 year old tractor i bought s couple weeks ago. They still had the tubes loaded with calcium chloride but the old valve had started to leak bad!

1 pointLook like run of the mill knobs to me. That's what I used on my 551
