10 pointsI asked for a wood lathe and this is what I got, yes a landfill score. Might even be older than the Foley Belsaw 905 wood planer and the lathe looks to have babbit bearings with an oil wick to keep them lubricated.

5 pointsI’m confident the folks on this site are generally better behaved than the average person walking around out there behaving badly. Being a good example couldn’t possibly hurt.
-
5 pointsPersonally, I appreciate a$$hats at work. They make me feel better about myself... Of course I'm joking. I do have a rule about such people though: I always try to be kind and considerate, but there are always people who dislike you for no apparent reason. Unless I have to shove them over to get into bed at night, they can dislike me all they want. I do the best I can by everyone I encounter. If they still hate me, that's on them. And if the person who is mad does sleep in my bed, I sneak my pillow to the couch! She of course, gets extra effort if I make her mad!

4 pointsCreated by two friends in 1995 as a joke, Talk Like a Pirate Day, on September 19, has become a beloved faux-holiday that lets everyone channel their inner Jack Sparrow. Although real pirates likely didn’t use much of the vocabulary we now think of as “pirate lingo,” Talk Like a Pirate Day gives us a fun opportunity to break out of our routine, learn some history, and celebrate a bygone era. So grab some grog(if you’re of drinking age), gather up some maties, and let your imagination take you on an adventure on the high seas!

4 pointsAnyone using boiled linseed oil needs to be aware of the potential for spontaneous combustion. ANYTHING, rags, brushes etc. with linseed oil on it must be dried in an open area away from your shop or stored in a firesafe container.

4 pointsThe royal WE are the courteous ones! I pick up trash in the parking lots. Open doors, complement strangers. WE do good things every day! Not bragging... do your best you every day and be super patient with the zombies YOU have helped that person at the store or stopped to help a human that has car trouble. YOU collectively have helped me and thousands of members to be successful. Many thanks. CONTINUE to be kind in this crazy world. AND stay coiled and ready when it sours. We are the ones that will survive.

4 pointsAnd then to have to deal with the ACAB jerks on top of it. I personally try to let every officer I encounter that I appreciate what they do.

4 pointsToday I worked on a bit of organization with my tractor parts. I also got the parking brake mounted and worked on the linkages for the brake and clutch to the C-85. A bit of progress was made.

3 pointsjust got a batch of shingles for , re topping shed roofs , found best way to move bulk weight , 1st gear low range , easily turns heavy bulk weight into a slow sliding , set up , using plow blade , on grass slide point , did not even tear up any grass areas . that blade width , was the answer to total control of bulk weight . always experimenting with an improvement to a problem , no clutch issues , it all moved easily , pete

3 pointsI'm right there with you. Seems to me they are making shingles (and everything else) heavier than they were 30 years ago. When I was 50 I could put a bundle of shingles on my shoulder and climb up a ladder with no problem, by the time I was 60 the shingles were heavier and I could only do a half bundle at a time. now they make them so heavy I can only lift a couple at a time , , , , and as for a ladder , , , ,

3 pointsWD 40 or Mystery oil can stay sticky and attract dirt. Penetrol dries and it's as easy to put on as the others. I did these Suburban fenders a year ago and they still shine.

3 pointsI go through a one-lane underpass on my way home from work. Today I stopped and let two other people go first. It ain't much, but it ain't nothing.

3 pointsI served for a year on a county Grand Jury, what an eye opener. Dash camera and body camera footage show efforts to deescalate conflicts and how our law enforcement people are abused and expected to "BE NICE" to law breakers. God bless all first responders and remember to go out of your way to say thank you to them.

3 pointsYes Ed,it is very sad that as human beings created in GOD'S image that we cannot or will not exist on this planet together. But the BIBLE tells us that in the last days it will be as in the days of Noah , and only 8 people survived that time. IMHO Bob

3 pointsTwo of my best friends were local police officers. Both were neighbors and fishing and hunting buddies. The one was involved in a fatal shooting. The resulting mental burden was too much for him to bear and it destroyed his life. We all see the physical danger they encounter, but the mental danger can also be devastating.
-
3 pointsMy good friend is a york city officer and was involved. He's physically ok, but not so much mentally.

3 pointsI know that I'm going to get a lot of pushback on this, but here goes. Patina: A: Usually a green film formed naturally on copper and bronze by long exposure or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its color B: A surface appearance of wood grown beautiful by the touching of humans leaving oils that get darker and richer over time. Rust: The reddish brittle coating formed on iron/steel especially when chemically attacked by moist air and composed essentially of hydrated ferric oxide. Nice find. I love my Commando 8. But Patina? Nope, that's rust. No matter what you put on it, rust will continue to slowly eat away at the metal.

2 pointsI was mowing today and my chickens have NO fear of the Horse! Pecking right next to the deck and wheels as I was driving by. Same for you other chicken owners?
-
2 pointsI did not want to hijack @ohiofarmer's post, so I will start my own..... First - The oh-so entitled & ignorant folks who park at the Market in the handicapped area legitimately, but leave their carriage (buggy) in the ajacent empty parking spot upon leaving. My local market went out of their way to have a corral for the carts a few feet away.... Second - the folks who attach yard sale posters on telephone poles all over town - the event is long over yet the posters remain...... I hope it rained that day!!

2 pointsBut people continue to buy them I'm quite satisfied with my Google phone, does everything I need it to do and costs about a 3rd of an iPhone. I suppose if you have the cash maybe it's worth it to you. A few of the guys I used to work with always complained about theirs, that's I needed to know to steer clear of them.

2 pointsI agree with everything Bob but that statement. If you take away the oxygen the rust will stop. Say by coating with grease or oil or even WD-40. We have this discussion every year at plow day about our shares & lots of guys just use WD and it seems to work. Funny no one has mentioned boiled linseed oil. Now I have only used it one or twice but it seems to work. It dries and protects put it does attract dust which usually washes off in mild soap and water. It leaves a dull patina which I prefer. I believe patinas shouldn't be shiny unless a custom. It probably should be reapplied every so often. This 400 was done with it. There is no such thing as wrong decals Don .. unless they say JD ... Nice tractors this thread fellas ...

2 pointsYou can change those bushings out and use wheel bearings instead. Bushings wear the spindles down so you might want to check those too. Probably not the most important thing on such a time crunch job
-
2 pointsTerc: I would just clean everything with some gas make sure there’s no oil or grease anywhere one part at a time. And I always choose Marvel mystery oil with a rag and wipe all metal parts down. wipe off excess. This bring back the patina that is there. There are other methods, but I find this much easier. Just take your time with it and you’ll be happy. This is how mine came out.

2 pointsTransmission is on and will have new tires on the front tomorrow now just going through the parts and see what else have to fix and put on the suburban and get this thing up and going for the show in about two weeks

2 pointsMorgan, the 14-8 got tapped today for cart duty. Moved the new dock section I built from the deck up to the winter storage area. Dropped the cart and mowed the lakeshore, mine and two neighbor's. I had wrassled the pedal boat out of the lake yesterday, so I tied it onto the tractor and dragged it up hill to its winter storage shed. Hooked the cart back up and hauled a load of stuff up to the house. I'm thinking I'll need to put a new condenser and give the carb and good cleaning on. Morgan next spring.

2 pointsWhile browsing around on the YouTube, I found this video on vintage garden tractors we want back. Unsurprisingly Wheel Horse is one of the featured machines, specifically the C160, but what caught my eye was one picture MY C160!

2 pointsMilitary (deployed in some form) and first responders have the most difficult jobs on earth. I could never be a police officer. I don't know how they don't pop and beat the living crap out of belligerent people. I know it occasionally happens, but I am amazed it isn't more common.

2 pointsI was in Hanover today and drove past the scene on the way home, about 1/4 mile of the road on one side was filled with news vehicles. The cornfield was straight across from the house making it easy for someone to stalk and harass anyone near or in the house. Just a sad story. Police are trained to be careful and get backup for many domestic problems, but this time they did but it would have taken an army to clear the scene safely. Back when I renewed my CC permit, I went to the sheriffs office and saw what appeared to be a very troubled officer in plain clothes going around and hugging all of the other employees in the office. Turned out he was the one that fired the fatal shot that killed a fellow officer at the UMPC hospital. I can't imagine how one can handle that.

2 pointsYesterday was Constitution Day... As Benjamin Franklin eloquently said regarding the Constitution, it established: "A republic, if you can keep it..." Our police provide the line in the sand keeping us in a Republic. My prayer is that more people will understand that...

2 pointsTruly sad indeed, prayers for these officers families, friends and fellow police. It's sad to see that people resort to violence and believe that's the solution to their problems. What happened to love thy neighbor as yourself.
