My A-60 Electric Wheel Horse has a chain final drive from the transmission to the differential. The master link on the chain gave out so I had my wife tow me to the shop. Since the brakes are on the transmission I had no brakes which got me to thinking. I have a rather steep driveway up to the house and if the chain had let loose there it would be a coaster ride with no way of stopping other than hitting a tree. Not a desirable alternative. I looked the situation over and decided to add a disc brake to the rear axle. Took a little bit of measuring and shade tree engineering but the outcome was well worth it. The disc is much better than the brakes mounted to the Peerless Transmission.

Hello, long time lurker finally joined. Just wanted to say hi and share pics of my slow growing collection. Started with the Raider 10 to pull a lawn cart. Purchased from the original owner. Thought it would be easier on the lawn than my kubota. I was right but it also started my addiction. From there bought two 854's to make one good one. Then most recently purchased a Suburban 400 with Clinton engine. This site has been very helpful along the way and I appreciate the effort you all put into maintaining it.

U.S. Air Force Day is commemorated yearly on September 18, celebrating the birth of this very important organization. The U.S. military is one of the most advanced in the world. As soon as airplanes were invented, the U.S. military bought its first plane and utilized this revolutionary invention. Since then, many advancements have been made. This holiday celebrates the day the U.S. Air Force became an independent organization and recognizes the many accomplishments the USAF has made. Most importantly, this day honors the sacrifices of many and raises awareness of the importance of national security to our freedom. The first successful airplane was invented in 1903 and the U.S. military bought its first aircraft only six years later. Envisioning great success for their new invention, the U.S. Signal Corps established the first-ever military aviation organization, the Aeronautical Division, in 1907. However, the Aeronautical Division was too small and inadequate when it came to aerial combat years later. It became evident after the hardships of World War II that airpower would become even more crucial in the coming years. It was then that the National Security Act of 1947 reorganized the U.S. military and intelligence agencies, making the Air Force an independent organization. The U.S. Air Force Day was first introduced by President Harry Truman on August 1, 1947. This was done to recognize the personnel of the fearless U.S. Air Force and all who have maintained and developed the nation’s air strength. This holiday was initially celebrated on August 1 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Aeronautical Division, U.S. Signal Corps. However, on September 18, the U.S. Air Force was established as a separate branch of the US Armed Forces and this holiday received a new date.

Weather has been great here for a couple weeks now. Clear blue/ 52 and mid 70s to low 80s for the high, mid 50s at night. How I wish it was like this year round! Anyway, I've noticed a few critters gearing up for the long nap. We have both white and green tree frogs here, and a bunch of them. One of my fence caps popped off, and someone decided to make it home. I guess I can wait until spring to fix it... Anybody else notice critters getting ready?

I did not want to hijack @ohiofarmer's post, so I will start my own..... First - The oh-so entitled & ignorant folks who park at the Market in the handicapped area legitimately, but leave their carriage (buggy) in the ajacent empty parking spot upon leaving. My local market went out of their way to have a corral for the carts a few feet away.... Second - the folks who attach yard sale posters on telephone poles all over town - the event is long over yet the posters remain...... I hope it rained that day!!

While browsing around on the YouTube, I found this video on vintage garden tractors we want back. Unsurprisingly Wheel Horse is one of the featured machines, specifically the C160, but what caught my eye was one picture MY C160!

Nice setup you did. Westinghouse makes a good generator. I have one of their small inverter generators & its been great. Heres what I did. Generator is in storage side of the she shed. Got the fresh air vents then the shutter fan to remove heat/fumes. Purchased the insulated exhaust designed specifically for this type of installation. All I have to do is quick connect to the natural gas & plug into 30a outlet installed on back of house. It all works well

I got a .44 magnum if mine tries to grow legs ...
  12. 5 points
I make only one suggestion: dig as deep as you can with post hole diggers and concrete in a steel anchor to use a cable and lock (more than one is a good idea) on the generator. Even out in the country, those things grow legs and dissappear when power outages occur. Especially true of a high watt model that will carry your entire house.

A year or three ago we decided to invest in a generator powerful enough to run everything in the home including the well pump, AC, & electric heat and hot water. We've been hunting for a small enclosure for it but as we're all well aware many of the available products are just cheap 💩 Well yesterday the BBT commenced to making one on her own. As usual it's almost all free/recycled materials. It turned out EXCELLENT. It'll be painted all one color. The huge cord will be hung inside the enclosure.

Hoodstand welds ground flat then entirely sanded. Hoodstand primed.

Fender primed. Primer is still wet in these pics. I used a 1.8mm HVLP spray gun set at 28 PSI with the primer thinned and hardener added. Belt guard primed. This is a Belt guard I had here already as it was already punched for ventilation and also it does not have the stud for the plastic belt cover. I do not plan on using the plastic belt cover. Got the hoodstand cracks welded up. I have never yet got a Wheel Horse that did not have these cracked or completely broken off.

Hello All! Added THREE tractors all at once yesterday(09/16/2025). Two model 854, and one model 855. The two 854 look pretty nice, but are not running right this minute --does not look like much more than a little tinkering/refreshing after sitting for a long time. The 855 was labelled a "parts" tractor, but except for it being Really well-used looking, it seems to be all there so I am not going to consider it out of play yet. The two 854's have rear discharge mower decks...one is a square style deck, the other the rounded style deck. I think it is really nice that all three are basically the same machine, separated by one year, yet completely different styles--the end of one era and the beginning of another I guess. There is an ID tag on the 855 (serial number 135166) but on the two 854 tractors, there is No tag under the steering like late models. Are the tags in a different place on older machines? Looking them over, I do not notice anything obvious. The 854 with the lower Kohler engine serial number has the round style mover deck, while the one with the slightly higher engine serial number has the square style deck. All for now! Be well and stay safe. [rayg]

If the traction at each tire is equal the breaking action will also be applied to both wheels through the differential. With the transaxles on Wheel Horses the tire with the least traction receives the most stopping power. I already did the panic stop test and both rear wheels grabbed.

If someone is desperate and utterly unencumbered by intelligence enough to come in this yard past our dog 🐕 and BBT 🥋 .......

No one. This generator has remote start. If the cable is already plugged in to the house all we have to do is flip the safety switch in the basement and start it.

Two of my best friends were local police officers. Both were neighbors and fishing and hunting buddies. The one was involved in a fatal shooting. The resulting mental burden was too much for him to bear and it destroyed his life. We all see the physical danger they encounter, but the mental danger can also be devastating.

I did that to one of mine that had the bolting locations completely broken off. This is on a 520-8 but those crack spots are the same. Any that I have welded then bolted back together using large thick fender washers underneath have never cracked again.

My good friend is a york city officer and was involved. He's physically ok, but not so much mentally.

Truly sad indeed, prayers for these officers families, friends and fellow police. It's sad to see that people resort to violence and believe that's the solution to their problems. What happened to love thy neighbor as yourself.

Nice haul, no need to leave any empty space on the trailer. I did a three for one trip years back, had to take the tires off one of the RJs to get them both in the bed of the little Dakota.

Sometimes you have to used what you have. Crayons are easily broken and get lost. He did get the smile right, Make's me smile too when these old Wheel Horses fire up after 50 years and go to work.

I do like wide tracks on these tractors, but this one will hopefully carry my 48SD deck on occasion. With that in mind, I decided to swap out the wide 2 inch spacers for 1 inch. I think on this tractor it looks better. The front and rear track is almost identical now, so that's a good thing. Before and after: 42 inches vs 40.

Today I worked on a bit of organization with my tractor parts. I also got the parking brake mounted and worked on the linkages for the brake and clutch to the C-85. A bit of progress was made.

Tom, go on line and google billboard trapes, they are used but still in good shape and in different sizes. They are tougher then regular tarp and last for years and they are priced comparable. After Ivan I bought a very large one, the advertisement on it was for a Drag Queen show with a couple of cuties on it. I told the the wife the next hurricane this ones going on front of the roof Queen side up.

Yesterday was Constitution Day... As Benjamin Franklin eloquently said regarding the Constitution, it established: "A republic, if you can keep it..." Our police provide the line in the sand keeping us in a Republic. My prayer is that more people will understand that...

Yes Ed,it is very sad that as human beings created in GOD'S image that we cannot or will not exist on this planet together. But the BIBLE tells us that in the last days it will be as in the days of Noah , and only 8 people survived that time. IMHO Bob

A 3rd of the 2nd floor is cold storage, if you can make out the chain hanging from the peak, I hook a block and tackle to that to bring large things up. I used to hang my deer up there to keep them away from the coyotes and other predators.
