13 pointsI was given a 68 Raider 9 a while ago and had to ponder a while deciding if it should be rebuilt or parted out. I know parted out makes some guys cringe but the parts needed to save one have to come from something. This is going to be one of those 'somethings' and a lot of the parts will hopefully get in the right hands. The transmission, being a 5060 6-speed limited slip tweaked my interest. The hubs pulled without much of a fight. As I posted earlier, one of the lug bolts is mangled bad. I intend to weld a nut on the head but haven't done that yet. The hubs have two setscrews with both having a factory ground flat. I didn't know they did that back then. The input pulley slipped right off and the key fell out by itself. The brake drum put up a fight but I prevailed. The axle keys were ornery. I did end up getting one off with the usual hammer rocking method but one wouldn't budge. Enter the rotary tool and cutoff wheel. After 20+ wheels I finally created the clearance to get it out. Note the smaller brake drum key. It was like that before I attacked it. Fortunately, the keyway in the drum is fine. Of course I want to open it up for inspection. First I drained the oil. It was motor oil and pretty clean. Then I brushed on some Purple Power I've had on the shelf and hit it with the pressure washer. Not much need to be done before it turns red. Then it's flush time. As I've mentioned several times in the past, I hate the diesel smell. For years I've used Motor Medic Motor Flush. It does an incredible job with very little odor. I reuse it. After another couple days and spinning the input shaft now and then I'll drain it into a clean pan and strain it as it goes back in the bottles. I really don't know the fate of this transmission right now. I probably would have used it in the Dino project had it come along sooner. Now I'm thinking it would sure go nice in my 76 reborn B-80 since that tractor is now dedicated to the dirt/snow blade.

10 pointsAll six of my Wheel Horse RJs out for some fresh air today! 1958 and 1959s. Wheel Horse made about 24,000 in those two years and $2.5 million in profit- enough to buy and build a modern factory on south side of South Bend, Indiana on Ireland Road! I was able to save both original tires on the 67 year old tractor i bought s couple weeks ago. They still had the tubes loaded with calcium chloride but the old valve had started to leak bad!

9 pointsMy first thought when someone mentions a garden tractor is my grandfathers 1965 Big Ten, as a young kid I can vividly remember my dad and grandfather hauling fire wood out of the woods across the meadow to the where he stored and stacked his fire wood. I can remember when I got to drive the Big Ten for the first time, I was king and he was there to show me how to mow and how to change the oil and how to remove the deck and put the plow on to turn the garden. So I was set on a mission to find a Big Ten. He sold his and upgraded to a 716. I tried to search for his but I got to two owners than it just disappeared. So I found this one in Erie, Pa. I dragged it home and showed him what I got I was so proud of myself for finding it and getting it running, I was able to get him on the tractor at 90 and he had a huge smile and talked about that tractor and memories he had. It is always amazing to me the attachment me have to just a simple little tractor. I was not able to get a picture of him back on a Big Ten, I made a promise to myself to redo this little tractor and show him but I didn’t make it. So it sat in my shed for a couple of years and now I’m ready to get this done. Started the tear down and these tractors are a lot more complex than wheel horses. I really enjoy the simplicity of wheel horse. I guess that is why wheel horse is so popular they are easy to work on.

9 pointsWorld Barber Day is celebrated on September 16 every year, join this celebration if you enjoy making others look beautiful! Did you know barbers in the Middle Ages were not only skilled at haircuts and wet shaves, but also at pulling teeth, dressing wounds, and performing operations! These ‘barber surgeons’ were known for much more than just styling men’s hair. They even founded the first barbers’ organization in France in 1096. World Barber Day celebrates this sense of community — it’s a demonstration of how ‘ordinary’ barbers can contribute to extraordinary differences. World Barber Day emphasizes how — in just one week — every barber can make a real and significant difference in the world.

7 pointsBeen in the fuel construction industry my whole life, both ground up builds and maintenance. Ive seen it ALL. Been ran over by many people, had people park and wait for fueling next to dispensers still on pallets...Had people pull sideways between the fuel lanes. But contrary to popular belief of self serve fueling, NJ seldom has this problem due to full service fueling. When there is no need to exit the vehicle to start the dispenser, the lazy person will typically wait until fueling is done then drive the 50 ft to the spot closest to the convenience store. A good fuel attendent not only pumps the gas for you, but also keeps the fuel lanes moving.

7 pointsIt's their world......we are just living in it! I do have a story tho. i pulled into the station and all the slots were full. Wisdom kicked in and pulled up behind a car that a woman was putting gas in. I figured it was the best option for getting fuel quicker because she would see me waiting. She got done with the pump jumped into the car and bam, picked up her phone. I watching and waiting and thinking there is no way she could have not seen a full sized pick up two feet behind that compact car. Hmmm waited a few and then lay on the horn. Oh my it was great, she jumped and almost hit her head on the roof of the car. Pulled out right quick and I though that was just amazing. Once again It's their world......we are just living in it!

6 pointsI picked this up today while I was on marketplace looking for just any aerator. I've had a couple in the past but not built like this one. I actually need one this time and lucked out finding this one. I've seen a lot of Wheelhorse implements but never seen a spiker aerator.
-
6 pointsI see lots of terrible parking in the course of my job, mostly by entitled people who are too lazy to walk more than three feet to the door, so the block the door to the shop. But we don't have gas pumps. I think the worst one I've seen with gas pumps, and it was so much entitled as it was stupid, was this one guy at Sam's. He had one of those push-button start cars (don't get me started on how dumb those are). Anyway, he dropped his girlfriend off over at the store across the plaza and went to get gas. He shut the car off, pumped his gas, then remembered the key was in her purse.

5 pointsDecided to take my tractors to this show to help represent Wheelhorse's. Got them cleaned up and loaded up to drop them off tomorrow.
-
5 pointsOn the return trip from a weekend leave when I was in the Navy I would stop about an hour away from the base and park by the pumps of a closed gas station to take a nap. They opened at 6:00 am so that was my wake-up call in time to make morning muster on the ship.

4 pointsBottom of rear fender painted. One coat of clear applied. Bottom will just get one coat.

4 pointsThe spring itself is one “wear area” in an LSD. The other is also inside the differential--here the pinions’ teeth rub against the walls of their housing (pushed there by the spring) whenever the rear wheels rotate at different speeds. As @Achto illustrated, once the teeth/housing combo wears sufficiently, the pinions move away from the axle gears and eventually slip--catastrophically. IMHO, the “use case” for excess wear would be frequent turning while pulling heavy loads, especially without adequate clean oil in the transaxle. (The LSDs are unique in having “floating” pinion gears; all other WH diffs have pinion axles)
-
4 pointsThe switch connector has a unique shape with one wire position say on top with two rows of wires positioned below it. Handy to know what goes to what so one can probe into the rear of the connector without disturbing anything else. There are 2 diagrams with one using an electric pto. Sounds like you are viewing the connector from the front. The diagrams are viewed from the rear of the switch.
-
4 pointsYou can eliminate all those inner pieces if you replace the 14-75 that has one retaining ring groove to a later version that has two retainers - one on each side of the bearing. A parts list showing the assembly https://www.partstree.com/models/r1-12k801-312-8-toro-garden-tractor-1990/pto-clutch-and-control-38/

3 pointsSince the weight of a hydro is significantly more than a manual, maybe they beefed up the housings for a bit more strength.

3 pointsOur new one indeed has that! We fired up the stove and furnace today, for the first time in 3 weeks. I’ve had them out before. They service from the house to the road. Nothing behind the house is their responsibility, so I was told. Lots of help, when digging in the back yard.

3 pointsI chose the end pump at a station where it was the only choice for my travel trailer. The one ahead of me was a crappy little car emblazoned with greenie stickers. The save the earth old codger took a look at my gas guzzling rig and decided to save the earth for a few minutes by slowly getting his change, then slowly counting it followed by carefully organizing everything in his wallet. Then he went around checking his lights which triggered my reacting by getting in his face. Only after the cops were called would he move on.
-
3 pointsI used a little spot putty on the small remaining dimples on the rear fender. Block sanded until as flat as I could get it.
-
2 pointsby the looks of the RTV creme on the case edge and how nice the inside looks, has someone has already been in it? Any history Bob?
-
2 pointsMaybe if WH decided they wanted to use a larger diameter seal they thought there was insufficient casting at the end of the axle housing to put it in so the made the axle housing a bit bigger???
-
2 pointsDid the limited slip work correctly e.g. jacked up and you turn a wheel the other goes the same way?? Lowell has the spring for the differential as long as you are this far in....
-
2 pointsI just posted this calculator in another thread. Belt size over three co-planar pulleys. Of course, choose the clutch/idler distances based on a mid-point between engaged & disengaged. I emphatically second @8ntruck’s advice on braking. Also, the steering geometry and weight distribution of these machines were engineered for low speed operation. Pay attention and be careful.
-
2 pointsI decided not to wait a couple more days since the motor oil was looking good when I drained it. And I'm impatient. No issues at all. New seals, a real gasket and some red paint and this thing is good to go.
-
2 pointsTom, go on line and google billboard trapes, they are used but still in good shape and in different sizes. They are tougher then regular tarp and last for years and they are priced comparable. After Ivan I bought a very large one, the advertisement on it was for a Drag Queen show with a couple of cuties on it. I told the the wife the next hurricane this ones going on front of the roof Queen side up.

2 pointsbest wishes - I've got up to another 14 years before I get my UK state pension! or I could sell tuff and retire now

2 pointsWhen the LP Gas line for our house was berried they also installed a copper wire in the trench. If any digging is to be done the company will come out with a device that puts a signal on the wire that can be picked up with a radio receiver to tell the exactly where the gas line is.

2 pointsWH#6449was seal used in Sunstrand and Eaton Hydros ...Bore 1.624 CR 11124 WH 100443 used in gear drives Bore 1.375 CR 11050 I guess WH wanted a spring to help hold in the thinner fluid???
-
2 pointsPeople who park at the pump and go shopping inside are probably buying lottery tickets
-
2 pointsI did not need to have Mis Dig come out, I was aware of these lines and everything was safely disconnected and plugged before digging. We haven’t had LP in about 3 weeks!
-
2 points@MainelyWheelhorse FYI, that extension map be a tapered fit. That would mean the Kohler haft has a taper. But you can buy tapered sleeves on EBay it the Jungle toget you to the length and diameter you need.
-
2 pointsFrom my C-120 The picture is kind of confusing, but there is a thrust bearing that the spring rides on - the spring is meant to apply pressure to push the outer PTO shaft (14-75) and push the plates apart when disengaged. Here's what I found the first time I took my PTO off.
-
2 pointsThat type of "Got mine, up yours" entitled attitude I see occasionally at the market - idiots parking in the Fire Lane.

2 pointsMy son spent the better part of last summer changing pulleys out on his b-80 “mud mower” some days I would come home from work and it would be crawling along in the back yard some days it would flying along. I think he has a 6” pulley on the engine now. It moves along but he still has plenty of power to play in the mud when we actually have it. I have to say he does have a 16hp v twin in it tho.

2 pointsAfter unloading the suv and big trailer this morning and swapping tires on Cinnamon Horse, I finally got the chance to let that beast work a little. I hooked up the recently rebuilt pole trailer. Headed out to the forest. Loaded up with several hundred pounds of hardwood. Here we have a BBT in its natural environment. And here we have a momma in camouflage.... In other news.... Yesterday I picked up this pair of steel weights from @Sparky Today I wire brushed them and got some primer and painting done. Cottage white.

2 pointsThat's all? It seems like you buy another toolbox or 2 at every Zag show since 2015! LOL

2 pointsMaybe one of those metal carports. You should get a 20 foot wide, for about $2500 or so. They put it up in just a few hours.

1 pointShare your experiences with people I'm doing the gas pumps as parking spots. Extra points for stories that they don't pump any gas at all and just park so you cannot have access My story is yesterday I needed just a couple of gallons so I could use my stash of Kroger gas mostly a dollar off earned from fuel points. Speedway in Englewood Ohio takes the prize for half the pumps not working and shoppers parking at the pumps that do work. My wife was at one store and I was picking up some bits at harbor freight with that gas station close by. At least she was not angry at me for making her wait. Never going to that station again I have lots of ridiculous examples of selfish people, but I want to hear about yours

1 pointHas anybody tried Scotch-brite pads, they come in different roughness and are a little gentler then sandpaper. I have used them on rusted tools, never tried them on a rusted tractor.

1 pointTo everyone: I'll not delve into anything too deeply here. There are more appropriate places... But please consider this. The human species in the Western Society is in its current state - our SEVERE increase inobesity - for a reason. There's also "Big Food". The largest companies can pay for the best MARKETING which is why we have so many health issues as a mass society in today's world. 🤔 The Food Pyramid was never meant to be followed. Do your own research. Ask your own questions. Follow people or channels or networks that have differing opinions.
