9 pointsWith a ton of other projects going on, I haven't been able to spend as much time as I would like to explore this forum or work on my 522xi or my recently-acquired GT18, but I'm trying to squeeze in some time here and there. In between other tasks, I'm 'rejuvenating' the mower deck that came with the GT18. One of the steps involved repairing the anti-scalp wheels and gage/adjusting plates. The axles for the anti-scalp wheels were both badly worn. Here's one of the old axles after grinding off the weld and popping it out of the plate: I ordered some high-strength shoulder bolts, which I welded onto the old gage/adjusting plates. Also some new wheels. The dimensions of the shoulder bolts worked out very well. I did had to shave about .020" off the hub of the plastic wheels to get a perfect fit without having to extend the shoulder of the bolts. The wheels spin freely with the lock nuts nice and tight against the shoulder. To lubricate the axles, I sprayed the axles and the inside of the wheel hubs with dry graphite lubricant. It's messy stuff to use, but after it dries it doesn't attract dust. Another little task was to clean up the GT18 headlights. I polished and waxed the lens, which was pretty dull and a bit yellow. I think it came out pretty good. The reflective plating of the headlight reflector was rather deteriorated in places, so I cleaned it up and sprayed it with Rust-Oleum "Cast Coat Aluminum" engine enamel...some kind of ceramic coating. It's quite reflective, seems to adhere well, and it appears to be quite tough, so I might not spray a clear coat over it...haven't decided yet. I also installed some very bright white LED bulbs. I might try some other LED bulbs later, as I have quite an assortment left over from experimenting with lights on another vehicle project. I just ordered more of the clips that secure the lens to the reflector, but they're on backorder, so I might not see them for a while. In the meantime, four clips will have to do. If they never show up, I guess I can make some new clips from strips of spring steel (anneal, bend, temper). Tomorrow I'll be busy programming our new standby generator and backfilling the trench I dug for the propane line, so won't be able to play with my toys tractors.

7 pointsSeveral folks named Kevin here... And I just had a thread trimming a deck back to 1/2 past the blade tips... BUT it's still covered and can't touch exterior obstacles. And in general I don't trim the skirt on my propane tank.

6 pointsThings went great yesterday! Rylee has been whooping me in the gym, and I’m sore… but we got work to do! A handful of years back now, @Achto had a wonderful string of luck on the plow fields. His wallet and phone were both plowed under, on separate occasions. It seems the joke was that he’d have to plow naked from now on to not loose anything. I told the boys via text yesterday that it was National get naked and pour concrete and take selfies day Sorry @SylvanLakeWH for the show…

5 pointsyou won’t find the answer to your question in a manual. It’s gonna take a little trial and error and figuring. Just remember the belt guard on these is an integral component of the clutch system. You modify the pulley sizes, you’ll need to modify the belt guard to work.

4 pointsthat is a top notch repair! I guess people just don't know how those wheels are supposed to be used. Done the same, not nearly as fancy, used grade 5 bolts from Rural King, I think they were 5 inch and the majority of the roller runs on the smooth area of the bolt. I just cut off the unused thread. On the last set I just left the bolt head on and welded it. The 60" decks are a little differ but the job is kind of the same with a little hacksaw work. 60 inch swivel type anti scalp repair

4 pointsYou do not want the anti scalp rollers to spin freely, they only turn when the directly contacting the ground. If they are spinning just moving through the grass the will wear out. Wheel horse used a couple mountings that put enough drag on the roller to keep it still unless it made firm contact with the ground. I have used wave washers to do the same thing.

4 pointsI agree about there being more appropriate places, but sometimes a touch of inappropriateness is needed to shake people loose from their dream state. My wife and I do not watch much TV, only streaming shows and movies with little or no advertising. We block or ignore advertising on websites. When we do see a commercial, we usually laugh at their attempt to influence us. We eat mostly organic food. Yes, it's more expensive, but so are health problems. Wife is gluten intolerant and can't handle much sugar/carbs either, so we don't eat a lot of pasta, etc. Lots of fresh salads, homemade soups, fruit & yogurt. Our sugar consumption is very low and usually it's for a "treat" or special occasion. We avoid pharmaceuticals as much as possible. I take meds for high blood pressure because diet and behavior modification wasn't quite getting it back to a safe level. Which is another thing - they keep changing the numbers so doctors will prescribe more meds. "Normal" BP numbers used to be a little higher, so did cholesterol. Doctor wants me to take Statins, and I refuse. I got my cholesterol to come down on my own when it started getting higher than their number. Yeah, educate yourself, don't always take what doctors say as gospel. They are at least partly motivated by "incentives" from pharmaceutical companies. Plus, they didn't all graduate at the top of their class - some were near the bottom. I've met some that I wonder how they managed to graduate....

The human species in the Western Society is in its current state - our SEVERE increase inobesity - for a reason. There's also "Big Food". The largest companies can pay for the best MARKETING which is why we have so many health issues as a mass society in today's world. 🤔 The Food Pyramid was never meant to be followed. Do your own research. Ask your own questions. Follow people or channels or networks that have differing opinions.

4 pointsGood point - here, we have discussed our wishes if our health declines to the point of not being worth staying alive for, and being a burden on others. Regarding medical advances, yes, I'll bet we've yet to see some pretty amazing stuff in our lifetimes. What really bothers me is all the natural and maybe some human-derived treatments/cures that have been suppressed, outlawed, or bought by Big Pharma and locked up, so they could keep selling expensive medications that don't cure anything but keep you taking them and giving them big $$$. Wacky conspiracy theory? It's not wacky if there really is a conspiracy. To anyone who thinks there never are any, here's a lollipop, have a good day. (I used to work for a pharmaceutical company.... )

3 pointsAgreed... FYI - you can add a local RI "Culinary Delight" to that list of Mystery Meat. New York System Hot Weiners - aka "Gaggers", "Belly Busters" and "Dirt Dogs" (Not to be confused with Coney Island Dogs) Three all the way - loaded with meat sauce, onions and mustard - and a large coffee milk is referred to here as an "Arizona" And I have NO clue why..... Side tidbit - to my recollection, only New York and Rhode Island "allow" such for sale... the mystery meat in the weiners & the meat sauce do not measue up to the other 48 States standards.... Ya gotta die from somethin' .... Yum.

2 pointsI got Clyde the C-195 out today, hooked up the new lawn sweeper and swept the accumulation of sticks and leaves brought down by the recent winds. Impressive sweeper. I had it set low to pick up the acorn husks the squirrels have dropped. Worked well - almost like a vacuum sweeper. Only problem was that it also swept up about an equal amount of sand. It is going to take a little time to get the brush height dialed in.

2 pointsTruth be know many restaurants have lots of heat and eat stuff on the menu. I would say the days of having good cooks is pretty much rolling away. I ask a local mom and pop place about their meatballs and the one girl said they quit making there own years ago. Way cheaper when you factor in labor.

2 pointsStarted pulling apart this afternoon. I started with the carb. It was welded to the block. At least it seemed that way. It took a chisel and several blows from a jammer to break it loose. When I took the bowl off I was shocked at how clean it was. I don't remember when Ethanol was put in gas but I'm willing to bet that this one has never seen it

2 points@Blue Chips like the smooth SLIDING roller wheels , the NO GRAB effect is much better than tractive type , which is quickly overtaken , by the regular angular side slide deck movement , also like the multi holed bracket and welding . a regular thing for me is to study what's going on , definitely make a change to a REPEDITIVE PROBLEM . using that as a baseline , not repeating what's failing , has more often than not , ELIMANATED THE PROBLEM , another thing I do is to make up / use a lighter version of a trouble spot , maybe a softer wire , to plan out a fix ? often refer to a roller stool look see , for an exact look at fault , everything I experiment with , stops the issue , like doing that . @Tony Toys looking at the plow frame , that steering quadrant mount / and related is a GOLD MINE FOR MOVEMENT EASE , the squeeze lever , spring runs the entire show ! shoulder bolts at swing points , heim joints at lever rod ends , so smooth / easy , pete

2 pointsSince I retired, I started organizing hardware myself. The gray drawers are standard nuts and bolts. The tan drawers are all metric nuts and bolts with standard machine screws and nuts on the bottom. All are organized by diameter and thread pitch. I actually started organizing a few years before retiring but reorganized a little better afterwards.

2 pointsHere's two 1974 C160-8 tractors. One is the Cinnamon Horse. I made sure to show you the stock dash panel as we repainted it. The "Wheel Horse" script was from @Vinylguy Terry. The other is a Tecumseh engine tractor which will soon have a Briggs Vanguard. Cinnamon has only one guage. I swapped the OE ammeter for an aftermarket volt meter. The Tecumsehorse has two spaces. Upper one is the OE ammeter. The lower one in the shift cover was an hour meter. I have a 2" rubber plug but never popped it in.

2 pointsi did the same thing today! I had one already painted and measured it to fit and got it all ready to install snd it didn't fit! It was probably a C model hood and i had a B.80. So I ended up painting the B-80.

2 pointsLooks great! I think I've decided to toss the plastic panel and work with the steel plate, modify it to fit a low oil pressure indicator for the CH13, and possibly make accommodations for an hour meter and voltmeter.

2 pointsStarter solenoid clears by a very narrow margin. The engine has actually shifted back slighty in this picture, so there is more clearance than that. Once the engine is in place, the drive belt guide will fit perfect and even mount up to the standard SAE hole location on the CH13.

2 pointsAlright everyone, finally had some time on the Raider this weekend! Swapping out the HH100 for the CH13 is pretty straightforward with a couple caveats. It's not complete yet, still have exhaust, fuel, controls, and wiring to do but the major questions and puzzles are solved. The goal with this swap, as mentioned, was to keep the unit as close to factory condition as possible, meaning no sheetmetal or frame changes, no custom belt requirements, fuel system requirements, etc. If you are thinking of doing the swap, here is some data (further supporting documentation and data will follow). Factory WH crankshaft centerline distance from top of the frame/base of the engine is 6.125". The CH13 crankshaft centerline is .750" higher than the Tecumseh, so the original engine mounting plate will either need modified to lower the engine, or you will need to make a custom plate (which I have opted for, more details to come). The standard CH13 crankshaft diameter is 1.000" vs the HH100 1.125". I opted to solve with with a crankshaft sleeve adapter which has worked well (more details to come). The CH13 crankshaft is also .250 shorter (this is something I was able to work around with no adverse affects). Once the engine crankshaft mounting height is brought back to the factory 6.125" and the engine fore-aft position and crankshaft extension length is solved (basically putting the drive belt and PTO belt pulleys in the correct orientation), everything clears by a very small margin. The tightest clearance is between the battery tray and the starter solenoid. It does not actually touch, but is very close. The drive belt guide will even mount perfectly with a washer between it and the engine. The CH13 has the same SAE mourning flange circle as the HH1000 for the PTO stop/belt guide! Plenty of room for oil filter and oil changing, air filter service. Plenty of room for side-exhaust and muffler. Will follow up with further details and post back with video updates on our channel. It's gonna work and looks like it was meant to be there, to be honest!

2 pointsBrought the unit over to a property that I maintain for a friend of mine. Figure he'd get a kick out of it, and he did! Like the Tecumseh smoke haze? 🧐 Plans in the works for an engine swap with a Command CH13 single, keeping everything as original as possible. No sheet metal movement or cutting.
