8 pointsGreat Wheel Horse day today! Had them all today to stretch their legs… Been awhile since the 520 ran, and I noticed some dirt in the bowels of the snowblower since last being used, that’s been bothering me for several months since I noticed it. Finally got the rear rock shaft assembly completed. I bought a rock shaft kit at the Big Show from Dale’s Mower Service in Kempton, put it together awhile ago and the ball pulled off the aftermarket cable that I got. Fortunately I am not that far from Dale’s shop, so I made the drive a couple of weeks ago and he swapped it out with a brand new out of the pack OEM cable, what a difference. I must have spent at least 45 minutes shooting the breeze with Dale. We’re definitely old school. Still working on getting the RJ running, the gas tank is about to get an internal restoration. Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

7 pointsAs of about 10:30 this morning I am no longer employed. I turned in the truck, building keys, credit card, and all electronics.
-
6 pointsNot to make light of what could have caused injuries, but I’m thinking “Is the electric tractor equivalent of a Kohler throwing a rod?”
-
6 points11 years and counting, next to marrying my wife 48 years ago it the best thing I've ever done, but every now and then I think it's may be the best thing.
-
6 pointsNot much happening right now. It's cloudy and spitting rain. There is a car show just up the road and I am hoping to take a car up to display. I did get the tie rods ready. I know I may need longer bolts but otherwise ready to be bolted on.

6 pointsStill no progress but I did purchase an English wheel so I can flatten out the sides when I get back on this project (hopefully in about a month).

6 pointsScheduled to head an hour south for some Horse Wranglin' this morning. 🤠

6 pointsWe had another guy retired back then and only gave six months notice. They were complaining about finding his replacement in such a short time. So at the next meeting I had with the board of directors I let them know they might want to start looking for my replacement. They started looking three years ago and I started training my replacement about a year before I got cancer. I'm happy to report he is doing a good job.

5 pointsGot back fine with the above mentioned 520H. That's not running. I'll start a separate thread for that. While unstrapping there was a Jaxon sighting here...
-
5 points@kpinnc @ebinmaine @Handy Don thanks for the input. I called interstate battery locally per Eb's advice and apparently it's not that uncommon for deep cells!!! They are not maintenance free!!! My bad. They look maintenance free, but absolutely have cells that need distilled water... oops. If low while charging, excessive heat, expansion... boom... Distilled water on the way. New battery installed. Will report back. I have learned a few things today... The A-60 design completely encapsulates the batteries so no issues there thank goodness... I would have been in the Butts & Bruises thread...

5 pointsSlinky Day is observed on August 30 every year. It is a day set aside to honor a Toy Hall of Fame Superstar that appeared by chance but captured the imagination of children all around the country. Richard James, an American naval engineer, designed the Slinky toy in 1943 in Philadelphia, and it has been around for more than six decades. In the toy market, it was an instant hit, selling out in a matter of hours. Slinky Day honors the Slinky by allowing children to enjoy Slinky stunts, race with Slinkies, or simply untangle Slinkies as they knot, twist, and spiral!

5 pointsWARNING: Retirement means that others see retirees as those who have plenty of free time to assist them in their needs. Practice saying "N0." in a mirror until it flows off of the tongue like butter! Congratulations to a well deserved retirement.

5 pointsI gave the company notice seven years ago, Three years ago they decided I needed to train my replacement. I gave them a hard date when I finished my chemo. My replacement has done very well without too many questions. I have been looking forward to this day for a long time.

4 pointsThis morning I met a super cool fella to purchase his '92 520H. While there we were shooting the breeze like folk do. He had a couple really neat old tools from his dad's time in gardening back a few decades ago. This seeder appears to be a Planet Jr. Possibly a No. 4. push type. It would have had long wooden handles going up and back from the smaller wheels.
-
4 pointsI can’t add much, I have seen failures like that from charging however. I had a lithium cell pop on my converted car due to imbalance and excessive discharge. Personally I think lead based batteries have declined in quality and lifespan, while becoming more expensive.

4 pointsYup. Had one as a kid. The sound of one going down a wooden set of stairs is burned into my memory. Still got one hanging around some where - ran into it not too long ago. When I saw it, that soundtrack started playing in my mind.

4 pointsI worked for the same company for 40 years, after a vacation dispute I retired in 2004, then worked another 6 years as a consultant. Looking forward to seeing you at the big show in June. Enjoy your retirement Jay and "Don't Let the Old Man in".
-
4 pointsA little update on James. The skin graph has almost completely healed and he will be getting fitted for a shoe or maybe an insert for his shoe soon. He is getting around good and has worn out three special walking shoes and is now on his fourth.
-
4 pointsI wish I had been more clear, I was only using the thinner for clean ups, mainly brushes, I would never use gasoline for that. C-85
-
4 points@WHX?? Yes Electrical. I have been the Safety Director for my company for the last 16 years. Safety training and enforcement, writing Job specific Safety and HAZ COM manuals, quality control, gear change out plans and procedures, lifting plans, confined space plans, procedures, and training, designing temporary power and lighting for all our projects, and pre-qualification forms for contractors.
-
4 pointsFor best results, it is best to use the thinner that is recommended by the paint manufacturer. Gasoline to my knowledge has never been a recommended reducer. Is cheaper to do the job once and do it right.
-
4 pointsCongrats Hank ... I thought I knew what you did for a living ... Electrical?? It does take a little getting used to. Not having to get out the door in the morning, drinking coffee out of a cup than a travel mug. I do miss the fringees tho. I actually had to buy some black iron exhaust fittings the other day rather than reaching in the bin at the shop. Ain't that the truth Coach ... teaching that recliner a lesson can be a full time job!
-
3 pointsLittle yard work with the B-80 … till the rain hit. Just had enough of a heads up to get a trash bag over the seat.
-
3 pointsYou should do a good baking soda and water washing on the surfaces that had battery acid on them. The mixture will neutralize the acid so that no long term corrosion will come into play.

3 pointsHydrogen is given off while charging, a little spark and BOOM. When I replaced the battery on one of my I checked the electrolyte level as I always do and found two low cells. Pays to check.

3 pointsI'd be bringing that DIRECTLY to your local Interstate Dealer. I wouldn't expect them to warranty it. I would expect them to better explain the situation. Also, I'd want them to notify Corporate.

3 pointsThat is the feature tractor for the 2026 Big Show in PA. Haggle them down on the price, give it the needed TLC and make the pilgrimage to show next year!

3 points@953 nut Oh yeah? Does Mrs. 953 need a few more? I happen to have two I’d like to get rid of ! I’m just trying to help you out here, because if she gets more sewing machines than you can get more tractors 😂
-
3 pointsNow there is a man who knows how a Saturday should be spent. Safe travels and good luck.
-
3 pointsCongrats Jay. I officially retired 13 years ago, but kept on working here and there until my back gave out. But like Karl said: "I stopped working at the end of January and have never been so busy doing things."
-
3 pointsthis tractor is the best running tractor I have ever owned. It may have looked used and abused, but sometimes it’s better than all painted and pretty. At this time I was getting out of painting them. This is the one I should’ve kept. Hope you liked the pictures.
-
3 pointsCongratulations, I stopped working at the end of January and have never been so busy doing things.
-
3 pointsI have had several changes of vocation over the years but the best choice I ever made was retirement. Nineteen years and counting.
-
3 pointsDughter is moved into her college residence. This is all that is left of my poor tractor now. A bunch of little parts have been painted, bagged and boxed. Hub set screws and jamb nuts, PTO rod trunnion and clip, steering shim washers bead blasted and painted. PTO rod and hoop bead blasted and one coat of paint applied.
-
3 points$400 is about what a good running Wheel Horse sells for around here. A non runner is $150.
-
2 pointsAwesome yard art. I still have the broken handles off a post hole digger. The wood is old and weathered and would probably fit the motif. They're about 4 ft long. Let me know if you want them
