So sorry to hear of your health issues. I just spent the last 29 hours holding my wife’s grandmother’s hand in the ER. Failing health and questions needing answered, it’s hard to see loved ones slip away. ❤️

Started to collect and clean up some parts for a resurrection of an old 520. It's going to be a 312H w/magnum Drilled out the spot welds on the cross piece for the tower frame to make clean up and paint easier. I not going for a frame off but as always, I'm headed somewhat in that direction.

I always thought spumoni was slang for money. Used in a sentence ... Dan can you loan me 200 spumonies for that horse?

Banana Roy AL so that is what they call it. Mine is just with banana and vanilla tho. Might have to add bacon for the trifecta. I also like Crown Roy AL .

Today’s progress, just decals, throttle and choke handles with some fine tuning now. Inching closer to the finish but it’s now a runner.

Today I put the C-141 back together. It still needs some tweaking but it’s almost done.

Hey folks, Its been a couple years since i was active and around the tractors and hobby I loved so much. Back on my birthday this year I was diagnosed with stage 4 sarcoidosis and there's really no way to fix this. Im on oxygen anytime I walk or sleep so there no chance of me working. I have a whole garage full of Wheel Horse things that have to be sold so my wife doesn't have to deal with this stuff after the fact. Theres just so much that Id like to just get rid of it all with one person and one price. Does anybody do that anymore? If I have to I can sell piecemeal but I don't have the energy(or the breath) to take stuff apart and sell it piecemeal for the most profit. Here some of the pictures of what I have accumulated over the decades of my time in this hobby. Please don't beat me up too much. 100% original Suburban 400 This tractor was my baby. I bought it from the original owner and it runs and drives and mows. Just not currently, it did 2 years ago. It needs the points filed and then you're good to go. Honestly struggling with letting this one go because of what it means to me. It was the fist Wheel Horse my sone drove at 4 years old. Hes now almost 20m and in college. It may stay here unless the right person and or price makes me change my mind. This is a 1978 C-81. It has a 12 horse Kohler in it currently and does run and drive, just not well. It burns oil and has a carb issue. Not running currently. I'm trying to be as truthful as I can. If I'm not sure, I'll tell you up front. This is a 1974 C-160 4 speed. This tractor runs well, mows well, but needs a battery. Currently has a 42"RD mower deck on it that I used 1 year ago This is a 1973 14 Automatic with center control. Runs and mows well. I used it last fall but needs a battery now This is a 1995 Wheel Horse 416 automatic that I redid for my dad for his 75th birthday. He never changed the oil and blew the motor last year. Has a 48" mower deck and the engine was a beast until he blew it from not changing the oil in over 5 years This was also my baby. 1973 Wheel Horse 18 Automatic. Completely redone 15 years ago. Used it to mow 5 acres with a 60" belly mower and also plow snow with a 60" snowplow. It needs the engine coupler that couples the Kohler twin to the hydraulic pump in order to run perfect. It has run last ear for about 1 minute untilI saw there was an issue. Doesn't run now due to the bolt missing. This is a 1970 Wheel Horse GT-14. Its been redone and has 3 point hitch also has the inner wheel weights. Both rare items. The motor is blown. I screwed up and tilted it big time when building my house and the engine seized up. I do have another engine for it. I believe the replacement is a 16 Kohler that I bought from a Wheel Horse guy. This a a 1990s 60" Wheel Horse mower deck that I converted to fit my 18 auto. It mowed great but I hadn't run it in a couple years since the 18 needed the bolt replaced for the hydraulic pump. This is a Wheel Horse powered de-thatcher. It's a very rare post 70s implement for the C series and later 3,4,5 series machine. I bought this from a Wheel Horse guy. Its pretty cool. This is the mower for the Suburban 400. Run and mows well. Id like this to go with the tractor it was purchased with. I do have snow plow as well but I can't locate it currently. This is a kohler motor. I don't recall if its 12 horse or 16 horse but it ran well when the guy I bought it from took it off the tractor. Here you see another 60" D series snowplow and also a D series snowblower. Both operate just fine This is also a 12 or 16 horse Kohler motor. Run just fine and just needs a home. Requires dig to get to it inside the garage Wheel Horse wheels and tires along with a rebuilt D series hero pump, C series lawn vacuum and lord only knows how much other nick nacks I have piled up. All in all its been a tough exercise doing this. I had so many plans that won't get done, yet its strangely calming to se it all go to people that want it. I don't know how to really describe any of it honestly. Its just tough and its still a new wound so to speak. Jeff

Greetings all. Last month i acquired a older TORO Wheel Horse 210-5 It's probably as basic as one can get. but it runs and cuts. I've been wrenching and greasing on it and still have a couple areas that need improvement .. but ill ask these in another section of the forum.

My el cheapo HF sander took a crap while sanding all those park bench boards. So, I spotted this one at the auction this morning. Plugged it in and it ran nice and quiet so I thought I might buy it if the price was right. When they put it up, they sold it with this scroll saw that I did not need. Both are USA made Craftsman Sears Roebuck/ Simpson MFG all metal 2.25 Amp. The sander even has an oiler port. The Scroller Saw is 1/2HP with variable speed and rotatable blade. These things are heavy at 8 and 10 lbs each. Oh, and the price was right at $2.00 + 12 cents tax for the pair.

Another fabulous trip up north! We stayed here in the area of the red circle for 3 nights. Just drive in. Find a place to set for a bit. The moderate drought here had the roads a basic dust bowl. Here's a few views from low altitude of Big Spencer Mt. This, believe it or not, shows a beautifully constructed rock staircase. It was done maybe 12 to 15 years ago by a group of college age volunteers to prevent erosion and keep good access to the mountain. This is Mt Katahdin from Spencer. This is not just any old mound of dirt. It's the largest 🐜 🐜 🐜 ant nest we've ever seen. About the size of an average sedan. Whilst perusing and exploring the forest we found a mud puddle with several excellent animal tracks. Here's a nice bear 🐻 track. There was also moose deer and others... This is what a bear 🐻 does in the woods... One of our 3 piles of firewood. We noticed it looked like a beaver house and Trina decided it needed a birch flag. We have another 3 nights of camping this week! More pics soon.

I just looked at that picture and realized that I have more WH’s than are in the picture 😳 I think I might have an addiction issue with these things? 🤔 And why am I still looking in the classifieds and peoples garages and backyards?

National Spumoni Day is celebrated on August 21 every year to honor the Italian ice cream treat that incorporates cream, fruit, and nuts. On National Spumoni Day (and in general), scooping spumoni is considered bad taste, and it’s vital to slice it. Its origins in Naples have taken it on a lengthy cultural and geographical journey, and it is today more commonly consumed and enjoyed in the United States and Argentina than in Naples. Flavored gelato used to be layered into three layers and then molded into a dessert. The confection is frequently coated with a chocolate coating in addition to candied fruits and nuts.

I wouldn't start it up to check things just yet. 1st, take off your belt guard and take off your drive belt. Now try turning shafts by hand. 1, Put trans in neutral. Try turning the input pulley counter clock-wise. There is a Woodruff key holding the drive pulley in place. Is that still there. Also, try shifting the hi/low shifter...if the shift fork is broken inside, it will not shift. Do not force anything. If you can shift the hi/low lever, try shifting between the other gears. You may want to jack the rear end off the ground and try turning a wheel to check all the drive gears. 2. Shift through the gears again, and this time spin one of the rear wheels (have someone hold the other wheel from turning). Do this again and switch wheels. You are listening for grinding noises and/or gears locking up. Going through these exercises should pretty much tell us what is wrong. 3. Watch these videos to become familler with the inside of a trans like yours. I read your horse to be a 1989 with a #110996 transmission. Verify that your axles are 1" dia. BTW...Welcome to Red Square.

I’m with @rmaynard I check in daily, sometimes more than once. I don’t always post something but I like to scroll through and see what’s new. And like Bob and @rjg854 said it’s like friends and family here for the guys. It also makes the Big Show even better because you get to talk in person with a lot of the people here on RS. I plan on being here as long as RS is around which I hope will be a very long time 👍🏻

Between @Pullstart, @Achto and @WHX?? I bet you could get 35-40 hoods and fender pans... just sayin' ...
  23. 3 points
Ohh boy... So started welding up cracks and holes. So the hood is a lot rougher then I realized it has a good bit of bondo in it. It's fixable I believe but gonna be some work. Already hammered some but it's gonna be a lot of hammering and then bondo as thin as possible. Might look for some hoods locally as well. One of the hood mount brackets was welded on at one end. So cut it off and got that part of the hood fixed as well. Next is the seat pan had a bunch of cracks and holes that needed filled. Seat mount had cracks as well. Thinking about taking those metal bars that were on the seat springs to strengthen the whole seat pan mounts Also welded the sleeve hitch. Wire stopped feeding halfway through the weld so its got a little clump in the middle but good enough.

I got board this evening, so i took a piece of unslitable pine log and made a candle:

Still working on the hood, hammered more dents out of it mainly at the bottom of the hood. Stripped most of the paint off it, it's got some dents and such on it. Lots of bondo, I will try to reduce that amount.

@SylvanLakeWH that trans fluid , just got back in from cutting , have a regular check over , check trans oil , for condition , level , top up tank , add an ounce of , STABIL , to full tank , check engine oil , all good . simple as it sounds . that look around has helped me spot something starting , or off the norm . anything that is off that basic , stage . is noted and addressed . that led me to pto engagement outer swivel clip , swing arm , buzzing ? added a spring from that to the , frame mounted , hitch pin clip , the tension was just enough to silence the , buzzing / rattling, looking at 2 tom turkeys right now , just came out of the field . in back . with the hot dry we had , this fall , should look like a snow storm , at leaf drop , start . pete

There should be no need to loosen those two 9/16" nuts - that is an "active" slide under spring tension. Use a large pair of water pump pliers to move the slide, then remove the belt from the far outside spindle. IF the slide does NOT move, it is bound up & requires a good cleaning to free it up. That was why the belt was slipping!!

I opened them both today and checked the brushes and the cords. The sander did need a cleaning, but the brushes and cords all look good. The existing 3 wire cords and grounds look good.

to the Like Karl says, make sure the transmission input shaft is actually turning before you go into the transmission. It could also be a broken spring on the belt tensioner pulley.
  33. 2 points
Welcome to the forum. I am no expert, but I would start with the very basics. Is the belt turning when the clutch is disengaged, transmission pulley turning and the input shaft to the transmission turning? It’s possible that the key for the input shaft broke, and the pulley is just spinning freely on the shaft?

Well Mike, Thank you for the well wishes. I may take you up on the needing help thing. Unfortunately nobody seems interested in buying the whole thing in one fell swoop so stuff will be for sale individually I guess. Spoken for already is the Suburban 400 and the C-160 4 speed providing the member is ok with my prices.

See below. This was gonna be my next suggestion. I've never tried it but several others have had good success with this type repair. The Wheelhorse hydraulic system is relatively low pressure so external seals hold.

This is saddening. I liked Norman and was grateful for his IMHO very worthwhile and salutary efforts to save the tractors. His videos, while promotional, were nevertheless informative. The cost of his parts was not so unreasonable, and it was satisfying to support his worthy business. Anyhoo, this is a bummer, man. Good luck, Norm!

Steve, I certainly remember those football pools. We used to have a good time. I loved meeting everyone at the big show and camping plus taking the big group picture for the site. It is some sadly missed good times. I haven't been to the big show since Jeb was about 10 or 11, he's 19 and going to be 20 and a sophomore in college. Time flies and we don't have any control over the plane dude. Keep on keeping on!

Plan on changing the cord. When you do, install a three wire cord and ground the metal case. There is probably a screw inside the handle that can be used for this. Also, plug tools like that into a GFCI outlet when using. I had an old metal drill 30 years ago that I was nearly electrocuted by. I am somewhat leary of old electric tools for that reason, though I appreciate the quality compared to modern tools.

Finally dried out enough to mow today. Nine days of growing nearly got ahead of me while away on vacation. Then picked out a dozen crabs that were leftover from vacation. Got enough lump meat to make four nice crab cakes.

Added 100 lbs to the front of the 310-8 to balance out the Trac Vac. That bagger is heavy when filled with 200 lbs of wet grass. Also added a ratchet strap to prevent the box from tipping over. I find it easier and faster to windrow the grass with the 312H 48" SD and then collect it with the Trac Vac.
