My el cheapo HF sander took a crap while sanding all those park bench boards. So, I spotted this one at the auction this morning. Plugged it in and it ran nice and quiet so I thought I might buy it if the price was right. When they put it up, they sold it with this scroll saw that I did not need. Both are USA made Craftsman Sears Roebuck/ Simpson MFG all metal 2.25 Amp. The sander even has an oiler port. The Scroller Saw is 1/2HP with variable speed and rotatable blade. These things are heavy at 8 and 10 lbs each. Oh, and the price was right at $2.00 + 12 cents tax for the pair.

Hey folks, Its been a couple years since i was active and around the tractors and hobby I loved so much. Back on my birthday this year I was diagnosed with stage 4 sarcoidosis and there's really no way to fix this. Im on oxygen anytime I walk or sleep so there no chance of me working. I have a whole garage full of Wheel Horse things that have to be sold so my wife doesn't have to deal with this stuff after the fact. Theres just so much that Id like to just get rid of it all with one person and one price. Does anybody do that anymore? If I have to I can sell piecemeal but I don't have the energy(or the breath) to take stuff apart and sell it piecemeal for the most profit. Here some of the pictures of what I have accumulated over the decades of my time in this hobby. Please don't beat me up too much. 100% original Suburban 400 This tractor was my baby. I bought it from the original owner and it runs and drives and mows. Just not currently, it did 2 years ago. It needs the points filed and then you're good to go. Honestly struggling with letting this one go because of what it means to me. It was the fist Wheel Horse my sone drove at 4 years old. Hes now almost 20m and in college. It may stay here unless the right person and or price makes me change my mind. This is a 1978 C-81. It has a 12 horse Kohler in it currently and does run and drive, just not well. It burns oil and has a carb issue. Not running currently. I'm trying to be as truthful as I can. If I'm not sure, I'll tell you up front. This is a 1974 C-160 4 speed. This tractor runs well, mows well, but needs a battery. Currently has a 42"RD mower deck on it that I used 1 year ago This is a 1973 14 Automatic with center control. Runs and mows well. I used it last fall but needs a battery now This is a 1995 Wheel Horse 416 automatic that I redid for my dad for his 75th birthday. He never changed the oil and blew the motor last year. Has a 48" mower deck and the engine was a beast until he blew it from not changing the oil in over 5 years This was also my baby. 1973 Wheel Horse 18 Automatic. Completely redone 15 years ago. Used it to mow 5 acres with a 60" belly mower and also plow snow with a 60" snowplow. It needs the engine coupler that couples the Kohler twin to the hydraulic pump in order to run perfect. It has run last ear for about 1 minute untilI saw there was an issue. Doesn't run now due to the bolt missing. This is a 1970 Wheel Horse GT-14. Its been redone and has 3 point hitch also has the inner wheel weights. Both rare items. The motor is blown. I screwed up and tilted it big time when building my house and the engine seized up. I do have another engine for it. I believe the replacement is a 16 Kohler that I bought from a Wheel Horse guy. This a a 1990s 60" Wheel Horse mower deck that I converted to fit my 18 auto. It mowed great but I hadn't run it in a couple years since the 18 needed the bolt replaced for the hydraulic pump. This is a Wheel Horse powered de-thatcher. It's a very rare post 70s implement for the C series and later 3,4,5 series machine. I bought this from a Wheel Horse guy. Its pretty cool. This is the mower for the Suburban 400. Run and mows well. Id like this to go with the tractor it was purchased with. I do have snow plow as well but I can't locate it currently. This is a kohler motor. I don't recall if its 12 horse or 16 horse but it ran well when the guy I bought it from took it off the tractor. Here you see another 60" D series snowplow and also a D series snowblower. Both operate just fine This is also a 12 or 16 horse Kohler motor. Run just fine and just needs a home. Requires dig to get to it inside the garage Wheel Horse wheels and tires along with a rebuilt D series hero pump, C series lawn vacuum and lord only knows how much other nick nacks I have piled up. All in all its been a tough exercise doing this. I had so many plans that won't get done, yet its strangely calming to se it all go to people that want it. I don't know how to really describe any of it honestly. Its just tough and its still a new wound so to speak. Jeff

Another fabulous trip up north! We stayed here in the area of the red circle for 3 nights. Just drive in. Find a place to set for a bit. The moderate drought here had the roads a basic dust bowl. Here's a few views from low altitude of Big Spencer Mt. This, believe it or not, shows a beautifully constructed rock staircase. It was done maybe 12 to 15 years ago by a group of college age volunteers to prevent erosion and keep good access to the mountain. This is Mt Katahdin from Spencer. This is not just any old mound of dirt. It's the largest 🐜 🐜 🐜 ant nest we've ever seen. About the size of an average sedan. Whilst perusing and exploring the forest we found a mud puddle with several excellent animal tracks. Here's a nice bear 🐻 track. There was also moose deer and others... This is what a bear 🐻 does in the woods... One of our 3 piles of firewood. We noticed it looked like a beaver house and Trina decided it needed a birch flag. We have another 3 nights of camping this week! More pics soon.

I see @Pullstart has the vultures circling lol Like @WHX?? said that's a good looking machine. Maybe just get it running, clean it up and leave it as is. They do look nice painted up, but I'm biased as i have one myself! Mine has an 8hp kohler engine swap though and has been claimed by my niece

Greetings all. Long story short, while cleaning out storage garage of Father in Laws estate we found a Wheel Horse Lawn Ranger. I rescued it from the junk pile everyone wanted it to go to. But now I have a dilemma, been sitting a year in my shed! I am over my head as far as skills go with this. pull the rope and it does turn over, that is good. But I fear much work is needed, since no one had a clue he had this, betting it was covered for at least 25 years or so. One voice says run, another voice in my head would like to see it functional again. Questions 1) Where / who would be able to tackle this? 2) Maybe should be #1: Is it worth sticking $$ into? I'm willing to pay to have it done but want cost to be low enough so I do not end up sleeping in garage with it. It is a cute mower, but not that cute. Would prefer anyone within a day trip travel of Wis. First wish would be running and 100% operational, second dream is a repaint etc., again, is that worth it? Obviously I cannot get a quote from the pictures here, but anyone that has done anything similar? What should I brave myself for? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance for any ideas and/or help in this quest. -Paul

It’s National Bacon Lovers Day on August 20. Arguably our favorite in-office holiday, no smell on Earth is as attractive as the thin-sliced bacon sizzling in a pan and served with anything at hand. Bacon is the hero of every meal it’s incorporated into. No wonder it’s been such a massive part of western cuisine since 1500 B.C. This means, for thousands of years, we have relished the sweet-savory smell of bacon frying, and the chewy taste too. One could argue that it’s now coded into our D.N.A., a historic love for bacon.

A solid link on a hydraulic lift will allow you to have down pressure. I can actually lift the front tires off the ground on C145 with the plow. This is good if you are scraping snow off from pavement, not so good for gravel. A chain will allow the blade to float when used on gravel. My suggestion is going to be based on usage. Solid link for pavement, chain for gravel or dirt.

Some time ago I posted my double cold smoking bacon on this forum. I'm awaiting cooler weather so I can replenish our supply. Simple and quite tasty. Pellet smoke generator, a dryer vent pipe and an old smoker. About 2 1/2 or 3 hours and you've gotten smoked bacon. Of course the bacon still needs to be cooked. We are nearing the end of bacon and homegrown garden tomatoes, sandwiches.

Yah Mike maybe we should revoke his pardon ... As I mentioned in our PM Paul we are a pretty tight knit bunch... truly brothers from a different mother. We often catch up at events across the country despite geographic's. One of the many great things about Redsquare. BTW I have a recliner in the garage for when I drag home another horse. She caught on to the fact that it is not @Achto's tractor! Pullstart eating melted ice cream with Mike having a belly twister. He was out yakking horses when he should have been in line. Speaking of pics if you brouse here https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/17-wheel-horse-picture-gallery/ You will undoubtable find pics of more LRs. I know @pfrederi has one since new and still works it. Calendar shot there Mike ...

That is one fine looking family heirloom. Your late father in law obviously took pride in ownership of this Wheel Horse and now it is your turn. If you can find a hobbyist who enjoys working with engines I wouldn't be at all surprised to find it will run and drive well. Then you can tell the in laws "told ya so!"
  17. 4 points
Pardon my manners… I was trying to get you a helper to get it running. from the right side of the pond!

You should scrap it... Scrap it to a pallet and ship it to Florida...😁. That thing is twice as complete as they usually are found in the wild.

Ohh boy... So started welding up cracks and holes. So the hood is a lot rougher then I realized it has a good bit of bondo in it. It's fixable I believe but gonna be some work. Already hammered some but it's gonna be a lot of hammering and then bondo as thin as possible. Might look for some hoods locally as well. One of the hood mount brackets was welded on at one end. So cut it off and got that part of the hood fixed as well. Next is the seat pan had a bunch of cracks and holes that needed filled. Seat mount had cracks as well. Thinking about taking those metal bars that were on the seat springs to strengthen the whole seat pan mounts Also welded the sleeve hitch. Wire stopped feeding halfway through the weld so its got a little clump in the middle but good enough.

Another ID plate with an Anco breakaway tab that did not break away. Every time I see one of those I think of Anco wiper blades. Bet they are the same company as both involve aluminum stampings.

Even to a noob, that is funny! For others wondering, it appears complete, not beat up (that is what first caught my eye) and original, except for a plate around shift lever.

If everything is original on this it would be a 1968 Lawn Ranger…the only year produced with the three spoke steering wheel and “Lawn Ranger” decal on the hood. These are nice units to restore IMO…😎

First off Paul. We always need another cheese head here... 2nd off DO NOT LET THAT GO TO SCRAP!!!! It could be worth scrap but anyone here is going to tell you YES. Again everyone is going to say absolutely but you are dealing with horsoholics here. The bad news is with most if not all horses it's a labor of love. Don't expect to get out of it what you have into it. Goes double for a full blown resto or repaint. A full blown resto yes chances are you will have a couch in the garage and become quite familiar with it. Paying someone to do or even get it running can be $$. Given that it has a Tecumseh it's most likely it's going to need a competent small engine guy to get it running unless one got real lucky. Teckies as we call them are not a favored motor around here ... mostly due to the fact they don't age well and parts are getting hard to find. I would suggest what we call a mechanical only resto. Means giving it a bath and just addressing issues to get it running and mowing. Again don't junk it please I would gladly give you scrap value for it. Even if it was scrap there are parts there to save another. Looks like you are in Philips ... small world ...I go right up through there on 13 on my way to our place in Clam Lake.
  38. 3 points
Definitely start with getting it running and driving. It's worth at least that. I will let people closer to you recommend who to take it to if you aren't comfortable doing that yourself. Second it's not in bad shape paint wise. My recommendation would be paint the rims, clean the tractor really good and use some penetrol flood or something similar on the paint. If you are really wanting to get it repainted, if you don't do it yourself it will be quite expensive. Again it could look pretty nice even without a complete repaint. It's amazing what a difference just painting the rims makes.

Haha, thank you John. RedSquare was originally started by Chris as a High School project. Chris decided to make the forum about Wheel Horse tractors and choose “Forumer.com” as the free platform to build his project. When setting things up, he had to choose a color theme for the forum, and the “Red” choice was called “RedSquare”, so he picked that. Now this is speculation on my part, but because this was just a H.S. Project, Chris wasn’t going to put too much effort other than to pass and left the default logo on the forum as the theme name “RedSquare”. When I took over, I had wanted to rebrand, to just be WheelHorse Forum, so I put it to a vote. Much to my surprise, RedSquare was the members choice, so RedSquare it is. Since then RedSquare is the name brand for Wheel Horse forums, and will likely stay.

Jeff, @Hodge71 , it is excellent to hear from you again. I hope you remember the old Football Pools. I have to say that I am sorry to hear about your health and the issues that come with that. I hope you fair well my friend...that is one heck of a Red Collection.

BTW... @Pullstart has all of your belt guards that you loaned me at plow day this year... only used one on Pullstart's masterpiece that I returned to him... don't let him do anything "un-natural" to them...

Someone needs to come up with a bacon cooking/coffee brewing scent perfume or a after shave, you would need a stick to keep them off of you, think "Hi Karate".

I did a pile of poking around online a few weeks ago and added some numbers up. We would need to replace the entire system except the hydraulic cylinder. Engine, pump, brackets, valve, hoses, couplings etc... everything. To really make a legitimate change we'd have to spend a thousand dollars or so. If ONLY to increase cycle times that isn't gonna happen... However - Trina and I have agreed that ANY breakdown at this point would justify an upgrade. To repair a system that's already slow is penny wise and dollar foolish. Surplus Center stocks all the parts we'd need.

I have a C-105 that is rock solid. Good choice and good price. Make sure it runs smooth. No smoke. And run it through all 8 gears - hi / lo 1-2-3 reverse.
