6 pointsOne of my most used implements is a non dumping low rider Sears garden tractor trailer. Most recently, one of the wheels has developed a leak. I've noticed that the side walls on the tires are cracking, so time to replace them. I'm planning on using 4.80x8 boat trailer tires. The box of the trailer has several fatigue cracks, the axle is sagging, and the tailgate opening on the trailer does not fit the tailgate very well. I have the thought that this would be a good time to convert to trailer huhubs. This triggers project growth. That means a new axle. As long as a new axle is going on, might as well address the fatigue cracks and straighten out and reinforce the tail gate opening. The welding and metal work will create the need to repaint the cart. Might want to think about making it a dumper, too. While I am gathering parts and supplies, I'll patch or replace the offending tube to get it back into service. Pictures to follow. This project won't be a quick one, but I should be able to finish it up before @ebinmaine gets Colossus done or @Pullstart finishes his Wheel Horse dump truck.

6 pointsStarted on the 314A project. Added Sta-Bil and fresh fuel. Tuned the carb ...opened low idle jet almost 1 turn, high jet was OK Started soaking fasteners with PB Cleaned up the hub caps and wheels Jack up one wheel and spin it while using the wire brush on a grinder, then aluminum foil rub. Ya think the fronts were well greased Pete?

5 pointsHi. I'm a kid and just got my first Wheel Horse. I'm new to all this but want to try to get it running. I have a trickle charger on the battery now and am exploring it. I THINK the seat is supposed to flip toward the back but can't figure out how it works. Are there clips or some release or something?

5 pointsI noticed during the last few months of mowing with the refurbed 312-8 that one of the fuel tank captured nuts had developed a seep. No worries, had some about to expire fuel tank sealant at work so I sealed up both captured nuts and add a flat washer. Leak check was good using the blue dinosaur juice.

4 pointsMaybe you call her Nana. Maybe you call her Granny. Maybe you call her when you’re in trouble because you know she’ll be there for you at the drop of a hat. Whatever the case may be, today is her day. But it’s not just Grandma Day—oh no. This July 23, we celebrate National Gorgeous Grandma Day. Today’s the day to tell ol’ Granny just how stunning she really is.

3 pointsI see3 there was no rust on the inside of that hubcap.

3 pointsWe met the delivery driver with the roofing stuff this morning. Directed where to drop the new roof. Neat trailer. Was a 5th wheel tilt bed with retractable rollers, and an extendable deck. As the driver left, I noticed that the cultivated wild black raspberry patch was offering up more berries. I picked enough to mash with sugar for a waffle topping for breakfast.

3 pointsYou sure about that looks like Ford's idea to cut out the middleman and add ethanol to gasoline
-
3 pointsThat’s the little known Ford "popcorn hopper" accessory... EPA banned it shortly after introduction. Apparently too much greenhouse gas was emitted following use. Not from the vehicle, but from the consumer...

3 pointsNot bad for a daft lad from Birmingham. The lead guitarist, Tony Iommi, deserves a mention too. Whilst Ozzy was the front man and voice of Sabbath, Iommi overcame a massive injury to his fret hand to play the best rock guitar ever. While operating an unguarded machine at a factory he severed the tips of his fingers and thought he'd never play again. All he had was bony stumps where his finger pads should have been. But he set about making his own artificial fingertips from different kinds of rubber so that he could carry on playing. He still uses them to this day as there are no NHS prosthetic fingertips available. Black sabbath were meant to be and together they created a new style of music. RIP Ozzy, give em hell.

3 pointsThe texture is not amazing. The taste, is so wonderful! It’s supposed to be in the 90’s today and it should be picked hot and dry. If time allows..

3 pointsA few years ago we had a newer Ranger brought in for a rattle noise on acceleration. Customer had been out of town for a few weeks around the holidays, so truck had been parked, and the noise was new when they returned.

2 pointsProbably the only set of front hubcaps with no rust on the backside on planet earth! @953 nut beat me to it!

2 points1x4s and metal roofing. Tow vehicle was a Ram 2500. Now, the neighbors up the street a bit are building a structure which will have open shop/storage space with what might be living quarters in a 2nd floor. They had a load of roof trusses and floor trusses delivered last week. They came in on a 40' tilting flatbed with a sliding wheel assembly. They were able to shorten the trailer wheel base to get it around a pretty sharp jog in the road.

2 pointsAlthough there's plenty things that need done around the house, I chose to clean up the tractors instead. Wash & wax all 3 along with a few cold beers & a cigar. What a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

1 pointSorry for the late update, but I had to go and get new carriage bolts and nuts for it since they were pretty shot and cant complain since they have been on there for 40 years. But getting those installed and getting the handle in place did the trick
-
1 pointI had a similar problem with a 701 Wheel Horse tractor that would die after running for thirty minutes. Not a gas/fuel line or v=carb issue but turned out to be a bad ignition switch. The three prong switches made today may not be as well made as I have had two fail. Not sure if they were a Cole Hersee switch (usually the best) or a knock-off but one of the prongs broke connection as I found out after taking the switches apart.

1 pointSure. I'm not shy about copy, er, rather, being inspired by other folks ideas.

1 pointIt was the air cleaner. A rodent, probably a mouse, was bringing it in and storing it there. It's not all that hard for small rodents to get into a Ford air cleaner, because most of them have a cold-air ram that comes right up at the bottom of the hood. A lot of my shop's customers live in a farming area, so in the winter it isn't uncommon for us to see air boxes full of grain, kibble, or chewed up air filters. We also see lots of rodent damage repairs. One time I was working on an Edge for a transmission concern with circuit codes. I could see from the top that the wiring had been chewed. While I was lifting it to get better access a rabbit face-planted onto the floor from the engine diaper.

1 point@c-series don if i had a 420LSE…..it would be hard to find a place for it, there is worker wheel horses everywhere! I would have to find room for it where the workers are not, so the workers wouldn’t get jealous!!

1 pointHello and welcome, I have a 1970 Commando V8 that is pretty similar to yours, if yours is like mine, look under the rear of the fender on the right side, there "should" be a rod with a bent round curl on the end that you can stick your finger in and pull it toward you, while holding it after pulling, tilt the seat back towards you. Hopefully this can help you. By the way that is a nice project tractor, just a little warning ..... the transmissions in these Commando V7 & V8's are an oddball transmission, the transmissions are a "front loader" shifter type (transmission shifter mounts towards front of transmission) where other Wheel Horses are located on the top of Transmission. These Commando V7 & V8 transmissions are hard to find if you are in need of one and as far as I know other than some seals and bearings, parts for these transmissions are rare to find.

1 pointSounds like a cool conversion. I have pressure treated pole trailer here I'll be adding a heavier axle to sometime. If you're interested I can show pics of how I plan to get that done.

1 pointWork a little on the 704 got the motor bolted on and some other stuff put on too have a question does it used a fuel pump on the motor or not
-
1 pointFrom on e grandfather to another, you should consider adding some weight to the front of the Suburban to keep it from dumping a child over backward and perhaps some sort of running board that will turn up at the rear tires to protect little feet and legs.

1 pointMY thanks goes to Wallfish for the great info, adding it to the stack of info that will help the next owner. Oliver2-44 I have made copies of all the manuals you posted , going to need a bigger ring binder. Handy Don Your post has good info that will be added to that bigger binder also. ri702bill Thanks for the info on what to check on the carb, there are points that did not know about before. Will be ordering a rebuild kit asap and will not miss the points you added. 953nut There is no way that I could put that type of money into this tractor, don't need OEM parts for the grandkids to drive around the yard. This tractor was running when I first got it, But it was hard to start and it is no better now. It has spark and will fire if it gets a shot of the caned spray, but will not pick up and run after that. I knew that the carb was going to need some work, so now it 's time to spend money and get it done. Once more I wish to thank all of you for your info and help, I will keep this post updated as /when I have more to add. Joe

1 pointI feed mine from the plus side of the coil. I also put a switch in line and sometimes turn off the pump after start up. Some tractors run W/O a pump.
-
1 pointI fed mine from the headlight circuit since I rarely use headlights, I simply unplugged the ground side of the headlights and I have a kill switch using the headlight switch. Bob

1 pointIF you have an adjustable regulator (these were on WHs with generators only--the voltage regulators on stator-charged tractors are not adjustable), the screw is inside as shown below. BE VERY CAREFUL. Just 1/8th of a turn will move the voltage by about one volt. [Clockwise/tighty = higher voltage]. Personally, I use a very accurate volt meter attached at the battery terminals even while recognizing that there will be a lag as the battery catches up with the new charging voltage--the lag is longer if the change is substantial and/or if the battery is weak (as in 5 or 10 minutes with the engine running well above idle)!

1 pointFound out that the LH captured nut on the '89 312-8 had a fuel seep so changed it out with tank that I found on eBay. I'll see if the old one can be repaired, but needed it up and running since it's my main mower this year. Then onto the 418-8. Tilled up the garlic patch that I harvested last night and then took it in the shop for an oil change, hood hinge replacement, and chassis lube. Had to easy out the axle zerk. Apparently it got sheared off at some point since the last lube.
