About 6 months ago a gentleman contacted me about purchasing this literal barn find C-101. He did so after posting here and many of you fine gentleman said I should be the one for this tractor. It would have been an 8 hour drive one way for me, so after asking for help here on RS @Ed Kennell stepped up and said he would help me. I have to say that if it wasn’t for him I’m not sure this would have happened? So thanks again Ed ! He was kind enough to pick it up, store it in his garage and then bring it to the Big Show for me. This tractor I believe is as close to New Old Stock as you will ever find. The guy I bought it from wasn’t a Wheel Horse guy but knew that it was old and in great condition and he wanted it to go to someone who would take care of it. He actually did find it in a barn he was cleaning out with his coworker who said that it belonged to his grandfather. Upon actually seeing it first hand and then driving it, I was amazed! It really was as described, the nubs on the original tires, paint on the muffler, no belt has ever run in the PTO pulley, original seat with not a crack or scuff on it, the paint is still on the shifters where it hits the shifter plate. I am now super happy to be the proud owner of this timepiece. This also completes my collection of the 1978-79 C Series tractors. I’m sorry that I didn’t take pictures of it as soon as I got it home, but basically it was just dirty and dusty. The rear rims had a little rust on them and I purchased a set of ags with nicely painted rims at the show so I switched them out until I repaint the original ones. Don’t worry, I have a new reflector for the one that is missing. I know one of you would pick up on that!! I did a light power washing, compound and wax, here it is!

Thanks to @clueless scoring this mega deal at the show, and passing it on to me! The zero turn clears by about 2”, which is perfect!

Watching paint dry is worse than watching grass grow… I always like to let it dry for at least 4 days or more.

Come to think of it, it has an outstanding backside view....

National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day is celebrated every year on July 1. Isn’t it fitting to celebrate ice cream and its flavors at the start of summer? There’s a famous jingle, “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!”, that comes to mind when anyone thinks of this popular dessert. On this day, forget the conventional flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, and take your taste buds on an adventure by celebrating National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day! When we hear ice cream, we hear fun! Whether you’re a kid or an adult, everyone loves ice cream. Over the years, there have been a host of ice cream flavors invented, some really delicious and some rather weird. The United States has the largest worldwide consumption of ice cream with an average person consuming 48 pints of ice cream annually, and California is the largest producer of ice cream in the United States. National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day is celebrated on the first day of National Ice Cream Month, which was declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Howdy folks been a while. Life's been busy but we've managed to get some done decided to do something different. A lot more to come plan is hopefully fit this fine machine with a 30+ hp diesel i do have one in mind just gotta make it happen. And yes I still have the original parts I took a parts 520 and repainted the sheet metal so we still have the originals.

Took a 90 minute walk after work here in San Diego. Not one person asked about my WHCC hat…what’s up with that?? Last time I did this walk the building was intact, still has a strong burnt smell now. Cali rabbits look just like the ones in my backyard back in Connecticut

My wife would have clean the cat litter box if I didn't come in so she would be very upset.

Very nice, I have one that looked like that, all about 46 years ago when I picked mine up at the dealer. Over those years she has mowed, plowed dirt and lots of snow ( in western Pa. ) and payed me back many times over. You can see her in my picture with my daughter which I also acquired that same year . They are both going strong and yet don't look quite the same as in 1979, but I love them both just the same, one a little more. Bob, congrats Don on a great tractor! And thank you ED on the assist.

Installed the deck on a 520 mainly to get it moved out of my shop. I did run it without mowing grass and it is so quiet you can't hear it run at all.

Thanks for the reply stevasaurus. I have it out already and I had to do exactly that. I caught the balls as they came out with the magnet and had to take a drill bit to clean out the channel before being able the get the spring. Easy-peasy. Gee-whiz... who would have thought this was the problem! There it is oliver2-44! 1. Question for you machinists: I have this new shift fork and I was contemplating having it welded on the bottom to keek this from happening again. My machinist friend didn't like the idea because he thinks the heat will take the strength out of the fork, especially if they have heat treated it already. Ideas? 2. There is some very light damage to the top of some gear teeth from someone shifting before fully stopping. It wasn't me!!! I've seen some similar on the forum and the advice has been to carefully file the burrs off and STOP before shifting from now on. Probably MY bad. But I bought it 30 years old. Figured a light 3 point filing should take off any light burrs. Any ideas on that? Now I'm back at it to clean it up and paint her. Any reason to pull out the reduction gear at this point? Everything looks and feels good. Now it's more fun(now that the dang hubs are off).

@c-series don , excellent job on that recovery ! picture 12 down , often refer to related pto related linkages , note hitch pin clip close to frame ? and related slide pin lower hole on pto outer spindle clip ? add a light extension spring , connecting the two , no more linkage buzzing / noise . in detailing mechanical function / issues , there was always a related buzzing about pto lever set up . have to warn you, that also led me to swapping the related , sloppy trunnion connection for a heim joint , your paint looks , era perfect . pete

That's what I keep telling my wife... Air conditioning with a TV and fridge. And a toilet. And a couch. Hmmm, maybe I see why she would be against it. I'd never come in the house! I actually have a portable AC in the garage, but it isn't big enough to cool it unless it runs all night first. Open the big door once and it wouldn't catch up. Guess I need a pretty healthy window unit or a smaller split system. Maybe one day...

Well, we did create a new part of the puller today. We got rid of the 1/2"x4" stock with a notch cut out of it for the axle. It was too weak for the amount of pressure it takes to pull off these hubs. This is what made the difference of making it hard or making it REAL hard. After we made a simple change: 2 pieces of 1"x1/2 spaced apart the width of the axle and put behind the hub. The 2 pieces were installed so they sat with the 1" side "on the flat" so the pressure was against the 1" width of both of them We connected them with 2 small screws just for spacing. On the front part of the puller we got rid the 3/8" all-thread and machined the puller to accept 3/4" bolts which were just long enough to get 2 heavy flat washers and a nut on the back as it passed between the 2 pieces of 1"x1/2" stock. Worked like a charm. No slop in the holes we made and we made it to pass on the outside of the hub, not through any lug holes. I got a 1 1/2" inch socket to fit the drive screw and let the impact do the work. It was slow at first-like the width of a hair. Then it started jumping in 1/32" increments and about 15-20 minutes later it was off! Fought all the way but it lost the battle! The only thing we lost were the keys. Shafts are good and we still have two hubs. The quality of the tool, not it's cost, makes all the difference. There is NO way the hub could have taken the pressure if it had been a conventional hub puller pulling on the flange. It would have shattered. If this hadn't moved today I would have shopped for a hub and cut it in 3 pieces as stevasaurus suggested. I spent the rest of the day cleaning up the bench and all the tools, getting the case split (easy), and cleaning the larger part of the case. I taped all the bearings up after cleaning their perimeter with carb cleaner. I didn't want any residue or junk to get into them. Bearings all look good and tight. Amazing after all that time. Fluid was clean. No corrosion. Some light rust at the top of the casing in the corner by the dipstick tube. ; A word to the wise: Don't grab the impact socket after a continous hard job like this...it gets very, very hot!

Hello all. My son who is 16 year old and autistic loves wheel horse tractors. He has a 1975 C100 8sp 10hp. He wants a straight pipe to completely replace the muffler. Straight up from the engine. Can someone help me and point me in the direction of how I can acquire one? Im not sure if this will be a completely custom item or if someone has found an off the shelf header that worked. I appreciate any help you all can provide. Also if you feel this will hurt the engine or make it run bad please share that as well.

A squirrel had chewed through a screen to get at some birdseed my wife had stored in the sunroom. Thankfully, she had closed the door to the house! Cleaned up bird seed and squirrel droppings and then replaced the mesh in the screen door for an 8’ Anderson slider. . My wife had been hesitant about reducing the local squirrel population before, but she’s on board now!

Drag pipe baffles are made to slip inside of strait pipes. They reduce the sound a lil bit but not a lot. Their main purpose is to create turbulence in the exhaust so that the engine will run good in the mid range. No resistance drag pipes are for running wide open throttle, not for cruising down the road. I.E. good for drag racing or pulling, not for every day use.

Very interesting. A while back I bought 2 of the cutest little glasspacks you ever did see. Patriot Exhaust maybe?? They'll eventually be on a Colossus engine.

I have this pipe on my pulling tractor. It's inexpensive, looks good when new, light weight, it's loud and obnoxious. It also slips over a 1" water pipe so you can use that to attach it to the engine. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-622147?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjo7DBhCrARIsACWauSnLDSu8XZxIOU2C_N6uIlHs1_uEGm1FtUuy16plEyVn4c_UjpU_DrQaAmPOEALw_wcB Pic of my puller with the above pipe on it. Ear protection a must.

Dodge octane red haven't got any pics of it in the sun but it's quite the eye catcher.

Supporting the exhaust pipe is very important. The pipe from the engine is one inch black iron pipe and I supported mine using a 1" X 1/2" X 1" black Iron T fitting and a 1/2" pipe plug drilled to accept a 1/4-20 bolt. You will probably want some sort of muffler just to act as a flame arrestor.

More information would be a big help in finding a buyer. A couple of good pictures as well as the model number of the tractor and a description of the mower deck. Mention any other implements or accessories, too.

It comes out like a foam that sticks to anything and then the propellent goes out of it and it settles down to be a thickish greasy film. Looks like a wet wicked witch of the West. I wouldn’t use it anywhere I could reach with a grease gun or a small tongue depressor (my go to grease application tool)--too expensive--but just great for bearings and deep joints. Can looks like this:

Nothing will fly out !! That plug is not needed, a finger of axle grease is enough to close the hole. The spring has the stop inside it with a 1/4" ball on each side. The balls will fall into the rail holes. Push the spring and stop through to the outside of the tunnel. Take a 1/4" drill bit and (by hand) use the bit to clean out the channel. Done for now.

I vote for both. Get'er running and rip it across the field if possible before hanging it up. That's if you don't plan on restoring it. We had a blast getting one of those 2 stroke Kohlers fired up at the big show last year. FYI, a regular old carb off of a 10hp K series bolted right on and allowed it to run. Or at least that's what we did but I don't know if or how many different size engines those things used..

spectacular -- the BIG question is do you hang it on the wall like an art project so you can look at it???? -- or do you use it and get it dirty?!!!!!!!! -- Like you did --- When I do a deck rehab, I always like doing a few parts with the black paint as an accent -- the rear axle brackets - the pulleys - the lift index unit - even the pulley belt covers - also I do the front rollers in new black plus the rubber lift carriage bumpers get new paint - you did nice job -- now you'll want to do another -- then another, etc!!!!!!!!!! Here are couple different deck rehab photo examples

Our pool leak is taking the majority of my time, but a good tractor shine, tune and trail ride for a few minutes was just what the doctor ordered. The mixture screws were backed out pretty far, and it would occasionally stumble pretty hard. I brought them both out to 1-3/4 turns and played with it from there. It seems much happier! I swapped a set of 23x10.50 Deestones on the rear. While the tires were off, I also finished screwing the fenders to the tool box. Since I cut so much of the box away, I used a long piece of 3/8” threaded rod across the front fender braces to hold everything together, with jamb nuts inside and out of the sheet metal. I had thoughts of another stack on this. The muffler has a crack in the side but still has a decent tone. I decided I will leave it well alone until a change is necessary.

Thing of beauty: I got some steekers today from Terry @Vinylguy and they are super nice! Now if it would just cool off (or just not be 100% humid) I can get these machines (this and my 701) completed!
