11 pointsJust thinking back about my 1257, back when I helped my dad get it, back when he had his own place to work on stuff in his garage before moving in a smaller apartment building. I want to say it was the summer of 2009 when my dad got it. Then I took over it in the spring of 2016 when he moved in the building. He took it apart and cleaned it up then painted it before I got it, I put it back together and added/changed some things throughout the years. Definitely a big difference between then and now looking back at a couple old pictures. Next year I really want to make it to the Big Show as things keep coming up every year. I’d really like to meet some of you guys as I’ve learned quite a bit on the forum from everything that’s been posted on here. It’s the friendliest and best forum I’ve ever been on.

8 points@WHX?? found this practically in his backyard this weekend. I says if nobody else wants it I do! I made a deal with the seller and Uncle Jim plans to pick it up before next weekend for me to pick up at Portage, WI Garden Tractor Daze. It’s the wide track model and the 20 hp engine. It’s locked up and needs some major work to be a runner. I’m torn between getting it going for a rip around the field, and making it another shop ceiling hanger

7 pointsI’ll go out on record, and say a guy could probably search on here and find where I’ve said I wouldn’t ever want one of these, and maybe some place that says if it were cheap enough I’d nab it!

7 pointsNice tractor, this was the first year I made to the BIG SHOW and encourage you to go if you can. Took one tractor with me that was sold, but brought three tractors and a 701 motor back with me. Meet a great bunch of guys/gals while I was there, (953 nut was one of them). Well worth the trip, and wished I had not put off going all this time.

6 pointsYes 4x4 522xi on a CadTrac style sub frame, loader ready. Two pumps one for traction the other is for the steering and loader. Last winters / spring project. No build thread, some details mixed into this thread.

6 pointsBeen taking some time off from Whorse since the show; first oil change in almost 10 years for my 67, adjusted the front drums, replaced some saggy 58 year old leaf springs, cleaned the underside and spray detailed while she was in the air....

5 pointsOur pool leak is taking the majority of my time, but a good tractor shine, tune and trail ride for a few minutes was just what the doctor ordered. The mixture screws were backed out pretty far, and it would occasionally stumble pretty hard. I brought them both out to 1-3/4 turns and played with it from there. It seems much happier! I swapped a set of 23x10.50 Deestones on the rear. While the tires were off, I also finished screwing the fenders to the tool box. Since I cut so much of the box away, I used a long piece of 3/8” threaded rod across the front fender braces to hold everything together, with jamb nuts inside and out of the sheet metal. I had thoughts of another stack on this. The muffler has a crack in the side but still has a decent tone. I decided I will leave it well alone until a change is necessary.

5 pointsWe installed a small wildlife pond in our garden a couple of years ago and I decided it needed some goldfish. So the water will stay clear I built a gravel filter barrel which is supposed to deal with pond sludge pretty effectively. It's basically a barrel full of smaller and smaller stones until you arrive at gravel. There is a drain tap at the bottom to draw off the mucky sediment and the barrel has an outlet at the top so you can direct the filtered water back into the pond. We will see how it goes and if it keeps the water clear without chemicals.

5 pointsWe still use our waffle iron that was a wedding gift. Hmm, that makes it 62 years old.

5 pointsI heard about the show for 5 years, before making reservations for the hotel. I’m so glad I finally pulled that trigger too! It’s now an annual pilgrimage!

4 pointsAbout 6 months ago a gentleman contacted me about purchasing this literal barn find C-101. He did so after posting here and many of you fine gentleman said I should be the one for this tractor. It would have been an 8 hour drive one way for me, so after asking for help here on RS @Ed Kennell stepped up and said he would help me. I have to say that if it wasn’t for him I’m not sure this would have happened? So thanks again Ed ! He was kind enough to pick it up, store it in his garage and then bring it to the Big Show for me. This tractor I believe is as close to New Old Stock as you will ever find. The guy I bought it from wasn’t a Wheel Horse guy but knew that it was old and in great condition and he wanted it to go to someone who would take care of it. He actually did find it in a barn he was cleaning out with his coworker who said that it belonged to his grandfather. Upon actually seeing it first hand and then driving it, I was amazed! It really was as described, the nubs on the original tires, paint on the muffler, no belt has ever run in the PTO pulley, original seat with not a crack or scuff on it, the paint is still on the shifters where it hits the shifter plate. I am now super happy to be the proud owner of this timepiece. This also completes my collection of the 1978-79 C Series tractors. I’m sorry that I didn’t take pictures of it as soon as I got it home, but basically it was just dirty and dusty. The rear rims had a little rust on them and I purchased a set of ags with nicely painted rims at the show so I switched them out until I repaint the original ones. Don’t worry, I have a new reflector for the one that is missing. I know one of you would pick up on that!! I did a light power washing, compound and wax, here it is!

4 pointsI'm going with Option #1, but lose the sawtooth remnants of the windshield first.... Hmmm... with a 3 gallon gas tank, you could be gone awhile... The grille & headlights look like they got heisted from an amusement park bumper car.

4 pointsBeen so stinking hot here that I haven't done anything with a tractor for a couple weeks. But yardwork never stops so my Scag needed some work. Changed the oil and filter, serviced the deck spindles, sharpened blades, and knocked all the buildup from under the deck since some dummy cut wet grass with it a couple weeks ago. Took about 90 minutes. Did all this at 11:00 PM last night under the carport. Still bleeping hot, but about 20 degrees cooler than during the day. My grandfather outfitted his riding mower with huge lights. He was very susceptible to sun poisoning and could not be in the sun more than a few minutes. I'm thinking of setting my Scag up the same but for different reasons!

4 pointsThis would be 100% true. When I restored my McLean (Definitely a labor of love), I had to make every piece needed to get it back to show room condition, including making all new transmission pieces. Took a ton of work to make this... Into this... Maybe not for everyone, but I found it a fun project.

4 pointsNot yet but I've figured out that keeping the tank filled up helps a lot with the issues I'm having. When the time is right I'm going to remove the tank all together and fill it up with gravel and make it spin in some way. Then give the inside a good clean and apply a anti-rust coating. Should sort things out. In other news.. since we've moved houses it's been pretty busy around here with all kinds of small and big(ger) jobs. One of the more fun jobs which was on my wishlist for a while I completed yesterday. I installed some quick couplings on the three-point hitch of my IH 585. This way I can open the couplers up, back up to the implement of choice, raise the liftarms and hitch it right up. Saves a lot of back and forth, pushing, pulling and other shenanigans.. Old situation. Did'nt look too bad until I took it off the tractor. The ball end that connected to the tractor was so far gone it literally fell out of it's socket. Both ball ends will be replaced. All welded up and gave them a lick of black paint. Nothing fancy, just rattlebombed them. I'm not sure if these couplers are common in the US of A. You can pull the eye up or back to lock them in the open position. That way when you hitch it up to the implement a spring mechanism automatically closes them when you're hitched up correctly.

3 pointsI would not plan to run it much in the summer time. For example, the Snowmotractor for summer use was used about 5 minutes max, then shut down.
-
3 pointsThing of beauty: I got some steekers today from Terry @Vinylguy and they are super nice! Now if it would just cool off (or just not be 100% humid) I can get these machines (this and my 701) completed!

3 pointsTalking with @Achto Dan says if you use a shallow air filter housing a regular round hood will fit the 854

3 pointsI think they look cool, but vintage sled parts can be difficult to find. If you don't have anything else to work on, I'd say try to get it running just to hear it run otherwise I vote another ornament on the ceiling of the shop lol
-
3 pointsI found the screen in the Trac Vac clogged pretty quickly. I added a full width baffle to direct the grass down away from the screen. Test to follow at next mowing.

3 pointsIt was great meeting @Pullstart and one of his beautiful daughters (sorry can't recall which one lol.). They brought me a 551 Suburban that I brought back to Tn. with me.... @Thegearhead0324 that tractor deserves to make it to the show . Btw what size tires do you have on back?

3 pointsInternational Day of Parliamentarism is observed on June 30 to honor the parliamentary systems of governance. First observed by a United Nations General Assembly Resolution in 2018, the day recognizes the unique and enduring system of parliamentary democracy as being the standard for political representation. The day also recognizes how a parliamentary system can conduct self-evaluations to take stock of progress, identify challenges, and formulate ways to address them.

3 pointsFor thrust bearings, I recommend the Koyo brand over INA as the cage is better.
-
3 pointsNot a WH only show as the only WH specific show is the WHCC PA show. But people do bring WH tractors to just about every engine/tractor show. Most likely it's a general engine tractor show but they're worth going to as you never know what you're going to see. Look it up online as they should most likely have a show flyer

3 pointsWell, here's where I'm at after today. I went to a friends house who is a machinist and presented the problem. We talked optiopns and then got to it. He is able to broach new keyways and has all the fine machinery we need if we "injure" something. We drilled out the first keyway and began working to pull off the hub. Once we got it moving we kept at it. We spent all afternoon pulling on that thing but finally... the first hub is off. It fought us all the way. We did the same to the second hub: drilled the keyway and began to pull and pull and pull...until we bent the 1/2in steel bar of the puller behind the hub. We turned it around and pulled until it did the same thing again. At 9pm tonight we decided, after bending the 1/2' puller bar twice, that we had to create a different puller. So tomorrow we will go to his shop and make a new puller that has 3/4" bolts instead of 3/8" all-thread and a 1" bar that goes behind the hub. I'll take some pics tomorrow. I was too tired to even think about it tonight. We were both extremely surprised at how hard these dang hubs are coming off. Just years off being in one place for 45 years, I guess. We'll be back at it tomorrow and hopefully we don't break anything except for the hold this hub has on the shaft,

3 pointsOhh they just make em long to fit any model I see thank you don’t why I didn’t think of that😂😂
-
3 pointsPull the wire out of the cable, cut the outer cable to length, re-install the wire, cut it to length. Have to do this with any new cable that you buy in order to make it to size.

3 pointsGuy at the BS had four of the old style mufflers for a real good price so Achto and I cleaned him out. Swapped out the strait out silver one for a down and out. Thought black looked better. First oil change as long as she's in.

3 pointsAfter 60 plus years of filling small gas tanks, I have mastered the art of only spilling about a 1/4 cup full. For me, that's perfection. Just don't fill them running, or over the grass. At age 75 I find lifting a 5 gallon can near impossible without an incident. Therefore, I transfer gas into several 1 or 2 gallon cans. Much easier and more control.
-
3 pointsI have used the "NO SPILL GAS CAN" for several years. You control the flow with a push button on the spout, no gas comes out until you push the button. It has a float in the spout that will shut off the flow for you when the tank is nearly full.

2 pointsWe celebrated National Waffle Iron Day yesterday without realizing it. My wife bought a cheapie waffle iron that makes a round waffle about 5" in diameter last week. Tried it out yesterday. Works well for the two of us.

2 points@sqrlgtr thank you, yes i am planning on coming next year and riding it around and meeting everyone. The tires are Carlisle super lug 26x12-12 on wider wheels that I got a few years ago. I’m running inner and outer wheel weights, the hubcaps hide them. I kept the original WH tires/wheels they’re in my shed. @Pullstart I’ve been hearing about the show since I’ve become a member on here and I see all the pictures and videos, it looks like a really good time. @953 nut thank you, my dad was into small engines and accepted the 1257 as payment for doing work for a guys other mowers. I’ve heard that people don’t leave the Big Show without their trucks full, if that’s true I’ll have to bring my trailer next year when I go.

2 pointsIt is only a 2 1/2 gallon can, I am 80, I've had a stroke and get around on a walker so the smaller can is just right for me.
-
2 pointsBeen busy puttering all day. A little o' this. Some o' that.... Trina's major project with her momma was to start getting firewood split and stacked.
-
2 pointsMight not be the appropriate answer but the jungle site has them, and I've bought a couple sets. They are identical to OEM and include new races. Just search "1 inch thrust bearing" and there are many to choose from. I prefer OEM when I can find them. Nowadays it's getting harder to find. Plus you can drop the originals in some diesel fuel and clean and repack them for future use.
