Since its official establishment, June 14, 1775 — more than a year before the Declaration of Independence — the U.S. Army has played a vital role in the growth and development of the American nation. Drawing on both long-standing militia traditions and recently introduced professional standards, it won the new republic's independence in an arduous eight-year struggle against Great Britain. At times, the Army provided the lone symbol of nationhood around which patriots rallied. The United States will celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Washington, DC, to honor the sacrifices, achievements, and true spirit of America’s warriors. This historic all-day celebration will include a festival on the National Mall, a parade running along Constitution Avenue, a concert at the Ellipse, and fireworks. The Army Birthday Festival will begin at 11 a.m. at the National Mall, Washington, D.C. The festival will provide opportunities to interact with Soldiers, Army Astronauts, NFL representatives and Medal of Honor recipients, and to watch military demonstrations, explore equipment displays, participate in a cake cutting ceremony and take part in a variety of activities. The Army Birthday Parade will celebrate the Army’s history and will feature Army equipment, flyovers and 6,600 Soldiers in uniforms from the past and the present. The parade’s best viewing area will be south of Constitution Avenue. The day will end with an enlistment and re-enlistment ceremony, a parachute demonstration by the Golden Knights and a fireworks display. JUNE 14, 1775 Establishment of the Continental Army On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress passed the following resolution: Resolved, That six companies of expert riflemen [sic], be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; … [and] that each company, as soon as completed [sic], shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army. With this resolution, the Continental Congress adopted the New England Army of Observation, making it a “continental” army — a united colonial fighting force — that could represent all 13 colonies with the addition of the troops from the three middle colonies. The Continental Army thus became America's first national institution. June 15, 1775 Selection of George Washington as Commander in Chief The next step was to select a commander in chief. George Washington of Virginia was the favored choice because of his celebrated military record and the hope that a leader from Virginia could further unite the colonies. Congress unanimously voted on the measure, and the next day presented Washington his commission.

Our 312-H was a bear to steer. The smaller-statured operators in the family complained effectively so, to address the issue, we: thanked @ri702bill for milling the bottoms of the axles at the spindle holes to make them flat and shorten them to compensate for... spindle thrust bearing bearings like on the later 520’s while doing this we discovered that the arm on one of the spindles was bent so we re-aligned it then installed adjustable tie rods to tweak the toe-in checked and lubed all the steering mechanism (if there hadn’t already been a flange bearing at the forward end of the lower steering shaft, I’d have added one) It now steers and tracks very nicely according to all users!
  5. 5 points
My 416-H steered fairly hard and aways felt like it was fighting me to stay straight. Then I checked and adjusted the toe-in. I found that a 1/8" toe-in can make all the difference. Just a thought.

When you get things apart maybe you'll find the upper steering shaft bearing is the issue instead of the lower linkage.

Get ready to greet old friends and make some new ones Wednesday. We will gather at the breakfast bar area of the Quality Inn, 1435 Doron Drive (Exit 20 from I-81) around 6:00pm, Wednesday, June 18 to swap stories and eat some vittles of your choosin'. This eliminates the need to unhook trailers, figure out who has an extra seat for a ride to the restaurant, and we can stay as long as we wish. The majority seem to be most enthusiastic about the meet and greet with a meal being a secondary consideration. Meals can be ordered for delivery. I have a small list of places you may want to check out or you can Door Dash, Uber Eats, or brown bag as you wish. Little Vince's has a good variety on the menu and they deliver, there is a $ 3.00 delivery fee. https://www.littlevincespizza.com/order CM Pigout was suggested by @wallfish, Not sure if they do individual orders or not. https://www.cmpigoutcatering.com/menu.html Italian Village has to-go meals, they deliver though there was no fee disclosed https://order.toasttab.com/online/italian-village Hickory Ridge has to-go meals but doesn't list a delivery service. https://order.toasttab.com/online/hickory-ridge-restaurant-chambersburg#!/ So far @squonk, @rjg854, @Pullstart, @clueless, @Handy Don, @wallfish, @stevebo, @fast88pu, @Horse Newbie, @whtractors24, @evanloock, @adsm08, @hcminis, and @953 nut have responded. @sqrlgtr has requested a doggie bag be brought to the show for him on Thursday, we'll have to see what we can do. There is always room for more, how bout it @Jrblanke, @Wheel-N-It, @857 horse and any others who would like to come. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Have a safe trip.

There is a shim pack on the lower steering shaft between the fan gear and the lower steering block. The shim pack thickness sets the tooth engagement depth. Perhaps it is setting the engagement deeper than the other?? One way to "see" the engagement is to coat 4 or 5 of the fan gear teeth with fresh grease and turn the wheel to run it thru to the other side. Do both tractors. Do the squished out grease patterns look the same?? One deeper than the other??

Today I marked out and cut the slots for the throttle and choke on the upper dash of the C-141. I have one side pretty close to done. But I still need to tweak the other side. I also ran the choke to the engine which still needs to be tweaked as well.

Some of us are on the lookout for cool ideas. Some of us are glad for the chance to witness and appreciate the talent and artistry that goes into making cool stuff. Some of us just like shiny objects! What caught my eye was the hydraulic drive motors on the rear and the realization (having never heard of or seen a CADtrac before) that it was likely 4WD and articulated.

Yes, I would encourage everyone to tip the breakfast attendant on Thursday morning.

Yes Chris it's you! Yes. And if you want a good breakfast, Right down 81 on Rt. 30 is the Sunrise Diner (formerly Chambersburg Family Diner) 1110 Lincoln Way or right across the street is the Trojan Diner 1121 Lincoln Way. @rjg854 and I both eat at these places and they are excellent!

Thank you @953 nut for herding us ducklings! Let’s make sure to treat the hotel courteously as they’ll likely need to have staff make sure the breakfast area is tidied up for the next morning.

Every year National Strawberry Shortcake Day is celebrated on June 14 at the peak of the strawberry season. Strawberries are found all year round nowadays but this wasn’t always the case. Previously, it was only harvested in the summer months. Even now, the strawberries that come in the summer months are juicier and tastier. Strawberries are eaten in all sorts of ways during this time by slicing, dicing, mixing, and cutting them and, at times, using them to make something flavorful like strawberry shortcake. Besides National Strawberry Shortcake Day, this lip-smacking sweet dessert is also popularly enjoyed on July 4 — Independence Day.

The 300 400, and 500 series 8 speed tractors used the standard cable with the short clevis,. The long clevis is for Eaton Hydros and uses the same cable.

Did some organizing in the barn since it getting a bit too crazy down there just with parts and implements and just stuff everywhere. Did some weeding in the garden and some rototilling with the C-145. Then moved ALOT of stuff out of the way to get the 3 point cultivator hooked up ti grandpas 8n since we sold it and it’s just much easier loading something like that onto a trailer with it hooked up to the tractor. Then organized and went through all the stuff we took out and now have some more room in the barn so it’s not jammed packed.

Up for sale is my step-dad's 1987/8 312-8. This sales comes with a 42" SD deck, 48" plow, and a short chute snowblower. Hours are a bit high at 1,600 according to the hour meter, but, the engine is a transplant from later on so it has less hours than the rest of the tractor. Since he has had it (2015) it has been maintained, just looks like 1,600 hours. In the last month I have performed the following maintenance items: Drained, flushed, and refilled the transmission with 80w-90 Replaced shifter boot Fuel pump and gasket MAG side crankcase gasket and crank oil seal Engine Oil Change with 15w-40 All new LED lights front & rear (nice and bright) New mule drive pulleys on 6/14 (not cheap) Sharpened mower deck blades and sprayed the underside with fluid film (deck is nice and quiet) Everything greased up/lubed. Fuel filter Last year the battery was replaced by my step-dad. The 48" snow/dozer blade has a new cutting edge on it and a stabilizer bar that attaches to the front attach-a-matic to help stabilize the plow (all made and installed by me). About 3 years ago new rear ag tires and new wheel weights were installed on the rear. All of the belts are good, brake works as it should, and the seat is in good shape. It's a good running rig, just not the prettiest, I'd say 5/10 for looks (see the photos attached), but mechanically sound. The only component of this tractor that doesn't work are the check/warning lights (the hour and volt meter work), and haven't since it has been in my life. I just mowed with it again today (6/14) and it performed great. I don't have pictures of the short chute snowblower, sorry. Please email me any questions you have. I am located in the east side of Kalamazoo. This set-up will make someone a good year round worker! I'm asking $650.

If you can successfully start/run using the jumpers from battery to switch, that leaves two possible sources of the problem: 1. the switch itself is no good. Get out your test meter and confirm that conductivity/non-conductivity is correct among the various terminals (this varies by switch model so you need your wiring diagram in the user manual). 2. There is no power getting to the switch. Start at the B connection on the switch and work backwards toward the regulator and the engine looking for (and resolving) any bad connections. You’ll likely encounter a fuse along the way--be sure it’s good and its socket is clean.

I will not be attending, only wishing I could, unfortunately. It's just not feasible on a work night. If enough people would be amenable to the extra travel time I may be willing to host a cook-out for next year though.

Yup. But that one doesn't go with me. When these 4 are empty is means I'm down to 10 gallons and it's time to go to the no booze station to stock back up. Nestled like this they can't tip.

The narrow Jerry cans, I think, would tend to tip over in the bed of your truck unless somehow supported. The thing I do like about the Eagle can is it wide, round base, no tipping.

@nylyon @Sparky Now why on earth couldn’t they just have the numbers in the correct order instead of reversing them? Whose brilliant idea was that? I’m pretty sure Wheel Horse wasn’t the only company to do that?
  41. 1 point
Well, I think you found your problem being hard to start. Low RPM = low compression but might run okay at working speeds. I'm not a big fan of lapping old valves but depending on the condition of the seat and face, there could be some benefit. I would probably just clean everything up, adjust the lash, check the head for flatness and get it put back together but I'm no expert with engines so others might have more reliable advice.

Yep, nationally there are several grades of PT but in our area the big box places stock only “severe weather” and “ground contact”. The yard that’s been catering to builders for the last 100 years will order anything you want, though (and they’ll help you decide). Note that lots of PT lumber is not suitable for any structural purposes. I got grief from the building inspector when I laid my deck boards at an angle to the supporting joists which made the spans longer than 16 inches. I had to show him the specs for the deck-specific stuff I was using to prove that it met the code requirements.

Mostly something done from underneath but you may need to remove the battery to get at the locking collar on the upper steering shaft to let you lift that shaft a bit. At the other end, loosen the steering shaft pivot block and slide it rearward. Having a lift or other safe to be under work stand makes this a LOT easier.

My Brother in Law has a place at the coast on a canal. He recently had a canal bulkhead put in and they used PT lumber. We went to the local Bay City Tx Lowes for some additional lumber. The PT they stocked was really green looking like the old stuff used to be. There are.some salt water worms that would eat the normal treated lumber. So I learned there are several grades of treatment of PT lumber. Most places just stock the lowest cost one.
