As we do most Memorial Day weekends we went camping and dragged the Momma along. Trina bought her a new tricycle for trail usage. The meals. Scenery.

Many of you followed along and offered much appreciated advice on the frustrations I was having with a 314H I purchased last year. Magnum 14 Frustration - Engines - RedSquare Wheel Horse Forum In the end I had it to a point where everything that felt could cause the issue had been addressed and I was ready to test it. But it was past the mowing season and I couldn't duplicate the exact conditions to give it a proper test. That is my wife mowing the back yard and warm weather. Circumstances were such this spring that we didn't have a chance to use it.....until this morning. It takes us about 4 hours to mow with two tractors. Here they sit waiting on their routine cleanup after the mowing. THE 314H PASSED!! It's the first time it has finished its job since we bought it. I'm 99.999% sure it was a faulty coil. I'll go ahead and put the stock muffler back on. If the issue comes back................well, I can say the 'test pipe' I had on the shelf did its job. It will take a while before I have the confidence I usually have for my Wheel Horses builds up but at least I now have the motivation to do a few things to it. I don't care for the hydro. A foot control would help a lot. I'll either find one or fabricate one myself. The steering wheel is too fat. I'd like to find one like I have on the 05. I did replace the original on it shortly after getting it in 09. I'm sure there's a few other things as well but at least the issue that was driving me nuts seems to be behind me.

Its on the Cub website, 2 ply turfs...but great for yard carts, front wheels on mowers. I ordered 4 and it was like $31 shipped.

Finally got to put my 416-8 to work! First up though was putting on a new PTO plate. The old one had no friction material left on it. So got that changed over. First bit of work was dragging a pretty big limb across to the firewood pile. Then mowing the woods and trail down. Always feels good to have it done and looking nice! The Kohler Magnum 16 handled it like a beast. I had previously done the job with a 10 and 12 and the vines always gave them a little trouble with bogging down a little and needing to mow it twice. The 16 chewed through it one pass without missing a beat! Between that and the nice seat it'll be hard to use my others...

Here is how your pedal and foot rest should look. You can see how there is a tab that the rod connects to. That also contacts the foot rest to stop the pedal from flopping way back.

I have a couple of good 1054/953 48 Inch Mower decks and related parts I would sell very reasonably to a 1054/953 owner but they are located in Gary, Indiana. Ley me know if untreated. I also have a new old stock blade set to include. These are the original 48 inch mower decks and heavy duty.

There are two visible ones. Many more off in various areas and states of repair. These are from the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s and 1940s. Very interesting piece of history. This particular camp was activated 1933. Deactivated 1942. It was a location for the cleanup of the Hurricane of 1938.

Today, I started off removing the AG tires off the 308 to fix the color difference. After moving the 312, and my four wheeler in front of it the battery was dead, so after pushing it to a spot I could take the tires off I got to it. I was getting things ready, My neighbor came over and asked if I was interested in an old Kohler from a RV generator. Now I’m up to 3 engines with no homes yet. I looked over the new engine and cleaned up the parts. I pushed the 308 back to charge while I painted. Then back on the rims. It was a busy day.

I don't need any tires but at that price I had to get a pair.

@Pullstart there's an awful lot of vacant space on the trailer...

Stopped down to @Blasterdad’s today. I’m pretty excited about the front mount deck carrier, and the 16 Auto that @jay bee had saved from scrap. It’s gonna need some help freeing up the engine or swapping another one in. Thanks Bryon!

I’m like 1% sure it was the faulty coil mounting bracket, and the new bracket has cured your problem .. But seriously…congratulations!

Mounting soapbox... I recognize the disparity for sure, but it is, in part, because of our habits and expectations. EVs are a different animal than ICEs and yes, IMHO, the fuel density challenge is years away from “parity". That said, the effects of ICE vehicle pollution are undeniable but not yet directly paid for by drivers, skewing the comparison. How many “towing” vehicles are driven 10-15,000 miles per year at sub-20 mpg consumption but are justified because of occasional long tows or heavy loads? I am encouraged to see RV trailer makers adding batteries and motors to trailers which let them "carry their own weight” for ranges up to 300+ miles and let them be hauled with lighter vehicles. This trend could, with some incentives, be brought to smaller utility trailers. Another option would be a supplemental battery carried in the tow vehicle only when needed--perhaps even rented like a U-Haul! Either of these could lead to a 700 mile tow of 3,000 lbs needing only two charging stops. Stepping down...

Tractor Supply usually has them in store and on sale a couple times a year. I order online and have them sent to my local store if not in stock.

Nothing To Fear Day is a time to evaluate ourselves and identify where our fears are. It drives us to even do things that keep us from being the best version of ourselves.

I opened up the motor on my spare hydro. I suspected that it would look pretty good since it worked well when I took it out of service but it's 50 y/o so I figured it deserves some attention. There is some light scoring on the slippers so I'll take care of that and open the pump to see what's in there to address. First time for me but I've read so much on here that I'm pretty confident and looking forward to the project. Thanks @daveoman1966 and others for the education

With 10 head bolts its a 16hp

The piston works just fine. I'll check marketplace for decent large wrenches. My SAEs stop at 1". If not, I'll buy a cheap wrench or set of large wrenches somewhere. Nearly everything else I work on is metric. Ahhh, now I understand it's function. Sheesh, one would think it was OBVIOUS being called a damper. I'll leave it on. If Donna ever uses it, I don't want her to dump the clutch and get bucked. She already refuses to use the FEL for some reason. Maybe because the 1st time she tried the zero turn, I told her to push the lever forward GENTLY to pull out of the shop. She careened off one of my motorcycles then pinned me to my toolbox before spinning off into a cabinet. She was about to hit the yellow button to engage the blades trying to get it to stop when I kind of SHRIEKED at her to turn the key. I only got her back on it after falling off the ladder and breaking my wrist, because I couldn't cut the lawn myself. This time I taught her how it works in the middle of the field! EDIT: The brake pedal issue is resolved, thank you. It's amazing what a little "adjustment by hammer" will do!

Idler pulley came today for Megan’s 310-8 36” RD deck, quick install and the mower is quiet as it can be. Sure going to miss this little tractor when she gets her house.

Put the bulb between the tank and the filter. That way the bulb does not have to work as hard trying to suck gas through the filter.

The pump looks pretty good too but I'm glad I'm addressing it because there is some scoring. Buffing and cleaning everything will probably be effort well spent.

Add a transmission oil cooler…

SOLD 1990 520-8 with almost 1,900 hours. Tractor only, and I can bring it to the Big Show. The 9-pin connector has been replaced with 2 4-pin Deutsch connectors. All gauges work, and it charges. Runs incredibly well and was maintained to a tee. The previous owner was the original owner. Oil and filter change was done at 1887 hours. I prefer a deposit or prepay before I bring it to the show. Got this 400 from a local collector that was selling off most of his collection. It arrived with no spark. Cleaned the points and a fixed short under flywheel then started it up. Here is part two of this little gem being brought back to life Wheel Horse Suburban Part 2

I prefer taping them off, taping both sides so I can prime both sides at once..and then finish paint both sides at once.

Ok, the next door neighbor is cleaning out. So, he came over and asked if I wanted an old K series Kohler from a RV generator. He knew I had a Magnum 12 I was working on, and figured I could use the parts if the RV engine was junk. Anyway it has K341 cast into the block on the PTO side. It looks very similar to the K321 14hp I got from @ebinmaine in my parts haul a few weeks back. It has 9 or 10 head bolts depending if you count the grounding spot to attach wires. It looks significantly bigger than the 321, so I figured it was a bigger engine. So what do I have? Thanks! now the pics…

Lucky it has the straight shaft, A lot of generator engine have a tapered output shaft.

I mean i get it...some brands run small, some large, some dead on. But..these tires are tiny. And right at 10.3" wide so thats great..just short

And it is only one layer deep, is @Pullstart slacking off or was this just the first stop?

Being a generator motor it should have an asymmetrical governor in it. It responds faster the the standard symmetrical governor. Sought after by pullers and no longer available. I wouldn't mind having an engine like that just for that part alone.

Last year i ran across a deal on Amazon, Valvoline 50/50 universal coolant at 4.99/gallon that was more discounted with volume...at 16.99 msrp i figured it wouldn't ship if i ordered 10 @ 3.79ea. I got 10 gallons to my door for $43 shipped. Found a similar deal from Walmart for 10w40 mobil 1, that one refunded.

Gravity is straight down toward the center of the earth. If you go up a hill, down a hill or sideways across the hill gravity is still straight down. If the oil spray was directed toward the crank journals when on level ground or up to fifteen degrees and you exceed this then the spray may not get where it should. Overfilling the crank case will not change the fact that gravity is straight down.

Black smoke indicates too much gas (rich).

I transplanted one into my C105 several years ago. Great running engine.
