9 pointsCan of brake parts cleaner & blow job. Soft nylon brush if you must. No brushes with metal. No submersing it in any kind of cleaner. Called undercutting the mica ... end result should look like a nice square top of a H. Then polish with grits cloth. Clean off with brake cleaner & air again. Brushes don't look terrible ... A trick for getting the armature back in...

8 pointsGave the 310-8 a workout. Nuther tree blew down in the field. The new Carlisle Turfs nuver spun a wheel. Cut, split, and stacked. Now for some cervical maintenance.

7 pointsStay home and celebrate National Homebrew Day on May 7. It is an annual event initiated by the American Homebrewers Association to celebrate the art of craft beer creation. It serves as an opportunity for its members to share and learn new brewing techniques from the annual brewing event it hosts to observe the day. Fun fact: Brewing, like baking, is one of the longest-standing hobbies! The holiday was officially launched to serve as a day to gather the community of homebrewers and craft beverage enthusiasts together to expose attendees to the latest in the world of homebrewing. National Homebrew Day was first observed on May 7, 1988, after the U.S. Congress declared the date as National Homebrew Day so don’t tell me your politicians never did anything good for you. To celebrate that occasion, the American Homebrewers Association created what is now known as the official event that marks the celebration of the day; the Big Brew event. It takes place on the first Saturday in May, with homebrewers across the U.S. and the world participating in homebrew demos and trials of new recipes. Not until President Jimmy Carter signed the H.R. 1337 bill into law on October 14, 1978, did homebrewed beer without federal taxation become legal for the first time since the prohibition of 1920.

6 pointsGot the barn doors up. The doors I got for free, but I had to put the chalkboard insert in them. The track I already had it was laying in the barn, I just repainted it. And then got the door hardware.
-
5 pointsGot the stairs done today. And yes they are steep it's 9 3/4" rise. But the treads are 2x12's so there is plenty to step on, and it's 4' wide. Considering before all they had was some 2x3's screwed to a board to climb up I would say it's far better.

4 pointsIf worse comes to worse you can purchase an early Cub Cadet steering wheel. You will have to drill the center out to 3/4" and drill a hole cross ways for the roll pin. Other than these alterations to the center hub they are an exact match. https://www.amazon.com/Reliable-Aftermarket-Parts-Name-Says/dp/B07BBWR8BS?gQT=1

4 pointsGlad you're ok! Those are nice!!! Rule 1 - roll, push, winch or let them go up ramps in low by themselves...
-
4 pointsJust got a chance to read through this. To say that I impressed would be an understatement. This was a huge under taking and you are doing excellent work.
-
4 pointsYup, it's a factory Five mark II body, frame and suspension. A Ford SB 302 EFI 5.0. Nothing crazy.

4 points1964 Ford Custon...a bolt on bumper hitch. Sorry...big fingers..it is a 1064. @Pullstart No, the horse in the picture is a B-100 the 2010 raffle tractor from the Big Show. RacinBob's Dino tractor is a C-120.

4 pointshere is suggestion to go pick up a tractor --- Option #1 get a friend with a pick up truck and ramps to go with you to pick up the tractor -----Option # 2 -- find a friend with a vehicle car or truck with trailer hitch then rent a local Uhaul trailer with ramp -- simple and cheap $ for one day rental. Option # 3 if you want to avoid a round rip with a Uhaul then do a OneWay rental for a Uhaul - pick up trailer near the tractor location destination and simply load it and then return the trailer to local Uhaul location near you. Option # 4 -- rent a van or pick up one day rental from Home Depot -- cheap $ - they have trucks with hitches or just load the tractor in the truck or van -- lots easier if you do not want to rental trailer -- #5 ask around at your work or network of friends - you will likely find someone you know who owns a small tow behind type landscape trailer with ramp thats sitting in their back yard , #6 -- locally here in NYS the Tractor Supply stores have inventory of small trailers for rent or also provide them to customers who have reward points at their store ---- Lastly - - if you load a tractor in a truck suggest you do NOT ride the tractor into pick up instead put in low gear and let the tractor slowly drive up into truck with you guiding it -- Good luck

4 pointsThe end that the brushes run on is the armature. The grooves on this should be cleaned out. An Exacto knife or a hack saw blade will work for this.

3 pointsWhen loading any tractor onto a trailer for hauling, I ALWAYS back it up the ramp onto the trailer. If a ramp breaks or slips, I can bail my body left -right- or forward to avoid body crushing. If you drive UP the ramp when loading, you can't as easily bail out...or bail backwards (unless you have some Orangutan genes). What's more---unloading is MUCH easier to simply drive the tractor forward down the ramp...instead of blindly driving backward down ramp (again, Orangutan genes??). ----Just a 76 yr old man's experience.

3 pointsMany thanks SyvanLake - I was so tired when I got there and did all this it never occurred to me that this model doesn't have the seat/engive cutoff - major duh! Thanks for that brain awakening - I could have done what you say and held the low weight front end down by myself and let it ride itself up the ramp.... wish I'd have thought of that yesterday but will do in the future. Great tip.

3 pointsMay well be but it is not hard with a manual. Plus it's the only place I get drive a stick shift these days.

3 pointsI can help stuff a few tractors in that C10 for ya! No problem! Fun police look away…
-
3 pointsRuns about 90 cents a gallon over 87 fuel, at the boat ramp $2 more. (and a huge PIA to fill cans for home) I definitely use less of non e gallons per cut. Might be 20% It have become much easier to get, a couple local stations within 6 miles have it now. I very seldom have any carb issues. As a matter of fact, just yesterday I was at a friends cleaning his 520H carb. He uses the cheap stuff. My motto #1, "if it doesn't work, it can be free and will never be a bargain." Motto #2 "if it aggravates me, it can be free and will never be a bargain."

3 points@ebinmaine @JohnnyMac There’s not a ton in my area too. A lot seem to be in Mass. or lower The majority that are here are along the coast of Maine or up around Bangor. @SylvanLakeWH and@Wayne0 had a good idea when they suggested the classifieds here, CL or Facebook Marketplace. Those are good spots to search. Your local small engine shop or junkyard may have something you could at least start from. I found my 308-8 plow machine at a small engine shop. It didn’t need much to get going.

2 pointsWhy not try bending it back? Maybe two wood boards one on either side of the spoke(s) for leverage?
-
2 points21 years in small engine repair ive never used a torque wrench on a spark plug. Tapered seat...finger tight then 1/16-1/8 turn. Gasket type...finger tight then 1/2 turn. Almost every stripped plug hole i have to repair is from someone using a torqe wrench and it pulls the threads going in, and galls coming out.
-
2 pointsGlad you're OK Pics of the damaged steering wheel would be helpful for hints on how to repair it (if possible) Steering wheels are the same for RJ-58, and 400, 550,401,551 Suburban tractors. Seems there is a couple on epay for $50 or more Is the steering rod bent too?
-
2 pointsYes...don't see the lift rod in the picture or the chute control
-
2 pointsSteve, was that a typo? That is a '64 Ford. Love the stance on the C-10. I had a '70 years ago, wish I had never sold it. No need to go fast when you look that good.

2 pointsNoting a couple of the early posts about tractor-mounted screw splitters, I saw this at last weekend’s Zagray Farm show. Belt input to a couple of chain sprocket reductions under the covers. The ramps behind the screw are to force the log apart and the vertical pipe is to prevent it from spinning--according to the seller who said it was last used on a Wheel Horse (color me skeptical--he could see I was riding a Wheel Horse 😁).

2 pointsAppreciate all the help @cafoosebut decided to go myself. If I hadn't already booked a "non-refundable" room at the Quality Inn on Monday, I would be more than glad to let @cluelessbring motor back for me. I was afraid to not book a room after I found out @cafoose was'nt going lol.

2 pointsPaint on the spindle housings is dry enough to handle. I am using SKF 6203-2RSH/C3 bearings with one seal removed. Also shown is the bearing driver tool. I am using this press to insert the bearings. Lower bearings pressed into housings with snap rings ready to be installed. Snap rings installed. I used this snap ring kit. Spindle bearing spacers ready to install. Spindle bearing spacers dropped in. Upper bearings ready to install. Upper bearings pressed almost all the way in then the spacers are centered in the housing so the spindle shaft will slide in then the bearings are pressed all the way in. Threads for the mounting bolts are all verified to be clear by screwing in a bolt. The rest of the parts need more paint drying time before final assembly.

2 pointsEverything is expensive. Does that make me old Four bucks on average for NE. 2.69 for Sam,s club gas. Paying for membership so.. not actual cost.
-
2 pointsI think the 312-H with the Eaton 11 hydro would be the best choice if you can find one in good condition. Project tractors are not something I would recommend for a mowing tractor.

2 pointsSpent some time cleaning the 418-8 and the deck. I put in a new battery and had already added a new seat and the grab handles. It also has electric lift.
-
2 pointsJust got done flushing with a kerosene atf mix. I did tilt to drain. Letting drip drain now. New boot on order.

2 points. To Uncommon... yes.... but they're around. Patience is key. I don't have a running driving mowing machine I'd sell but do have several restoration projects. @Stepney in in Maine, not too far from Dover. @AHS and @MainelyWheelhorse are both 2, 2 1/2 hours north. Closer to Bangor. @JCM may hear of some occasionally? @PWL216 or @wallfish are in MA. All sorta close ish.

2 pointsMessed around with the Moto yesterday. Got the blower attached but not completely. Didn't want to crawl around in the wet grass as it was raining all day. Looks pretty menacing. Safty wasn't even an after thought back then. It ran good all day then I couldn't keep it running. Maybe sucked up some crud in the gas. New carb or a cleaning in its future. Also going to need tubes for the front tires. One goes flat overnight.
