I started posting questions before I saw this introduction area. So here I am, new member from MN. I have a tired old C100 that I've been using for the last few years, shown here hauling materials away after excavating for an addition. I'm currently in the market for something to keep the C100 company that will take on mowing duties since the C100 is kept busy with pushing and hauling chores and it's hard to justify taking the time to put the deck on.

Rebuild 3 noisy spindles for a 42” RD. Plan is to sand down the deck, prime and paint, then new gauge wheels and anti-scalp wheels too.

I've spent a lot of years working with teenagers and two things I try to remember: 1. “It’s just hair” (i.e. be careful not to overreact to stuff that is primarily external like hair color/style or clothing--look for what’s inside) 2. Teens are far more closely attuned to what adults do than to what adults say. We must be who we want them see. Yer doin’ good, @Pullstart

She's got a beau who ain't afraid to get dirty either. Nice kid I didn't even have to put the fear of God in him... Kinda funny watching them wrench on their rides ... apple didn't fall far from the tree for sure.. lots of 10mm getting lost fer sure. We were just yakin about it the other day. Good kids ... don't smoke don't drink don't sit in front of the boob tube don't do any of the stupid crap we did back then aside from getting trucks stuck in the mud.

Join the Phone in Sick Day celebrations, and let us honor the worker and his rights. Phone in Sick Day is celebrated on May 1 every year. It is a day set aside to appreciate the average working-class citizen and give him a day of rest. Phone in Sick Day is celebrated as casually as it sounds, but the motivations are more nuanced. People call in sick on this day to protest against longer work hours, less free time, a decreased quality of life, and to voice their displeasure with the “rat race” of modern living. Unfortunately this holiday is not available to retired people, they don’t get a day off even if they are actually sick.

I have a Commando 8 which is basically the same tractor and I mow in 2nd gear. I don't think a newer deck would work on a short frame tractor.

That’s my daughter you’re talking about! Aaaaand…. that might have been one of the things that attracted me to her mother once upon a time…

Apparently, this whole working on your own vehicles thing is really getting somewhere with the kids. I’ll start another thread for Rylee’s project, but Jada has been involved in this truck, her pickup, and now last night she bought another Suburban, for winter use! She changed her oil and helped me do her front brakes, before getting ready for prom last weekend.

To take ownership of a firearm in Pa. You must successfully pass a background check. It doesn't matter if you purchase the firearm from a dealer, at an auction, or win it in a lottery. You must go to a licensed dealer, fill out the background application form and wait for it to be approved before the dealer can release the firearm to you. You are then responsible for the firearm and any crime or accident it is involved in. If you plan to sell or give the firearm to another person, they must pass a background check before taking possession. My suggestion for you would be to pay for the lottery ticket for the person that you want to have the firearm. Let them fill out the ticket, do the background check and legally take possession.

I think it's awesome that you involve your children in this stuff. They need to know how things work and how they get fixed. Definitely makes them more self sufficient as adults!

For some reason, I have to deal with more wildlife than any of my neighbors. I've relocated seven squirrels this spring--I'd rather not have them up in the engine bay of my pickup or scratching around on the bottom of our camper plus they seem to enjoy taking bites out of my vegetables and fruit. A few days ago I notice something scratching around then parameter of the lattice around my front porch. Digging up flowers and the such. A couple of days ago it finally dug under the lattice. Out came the live trap. Well low and behold this morning a big ole skunk was inside. I relocated it as well. This is the 3rd skunk in five or six years. Unlike the first two, This one was in a bad mood and I can't say it sprayed but surely has left the area smelling. I use the trailer in the event they cause a stink and it paid off this time. I threw the sheet inside my camper on the pickup and have left the tail gate open all afternoon to air out. I ended up throwing my blue jeans and shirt away. Our daughter said "Dad! you smell like skunk" when we dropped by to visit them this evening. All I could do is smile.

Didn't know that. (sorry to derail) We have quite a few in NC and a lot of friendlies that are good for keeping the pests in check. They were fat and happy last year when the cicadas were blanketing us. They didn't put much of a dent that population but they sure did eat well.

My Wenches. Some of these I bought 50 years ago. Cresents, box and some crows feet Std. Spanners Metric Some long ratcheting, flare nut and some custom bent cheapies to work on Trane AHU's

Yep. Them are LOUD for a frog. Love the frogs here. We now have an added accidental 3rd frog pond. This here's a wicked big pile o' eggs. Either frogs or small salamanders. Most likely spring peeper frogs.

We retired workers get to sleep in 'til 8 instead of 7 am. Who said retired people don't still work, I work so much now, I don't know how I had time for a job. Or maybe it just seems like work now because I move slower.

Got this one from 953 nut a few years ago. The York rake people are really nice I called to see if i could get a replacement tine he was very apologetic but they haven;t used that width tine in many years. he asked about serial # it is 548 Then said he had worked there for 30 years and that serial was way before is time....

Thank you for all the birthday wishes, they are greatly appreciated. I had a great birthday. Spent a couple hours on the 310-8 mowing the lawn , attended a very productive meeting at church, had my truck washed inside and out (long overdue) and had dinner at my favorite BBQ restaurant with some of my best friends. I had always wondered what it would be like to be eighty years old, turns out it isn't a bit different than being 79!

I removed the leaky fuel petcock from my 1-0440. No o-rings, just a single seal that I'm unable to remove. I replaced it with a 1/4" ball valve. Suddenly, the fuel filter fills completely, and the engine has stopped stalling at idle. I should have done this long ago. I don't even think I am going to try to find the original replacement since this works so well. Oh, and I can now fill the gas tank without worries of it being empty the next day!

Are you referring to this Stens type muffler? That strange bracket is easily removable and pipe fittings can keep it away from the PTO and hood. Going with a Gravely type muffler might suit your needs better. Pipes can be added on the output too. That 7" muffler pictured isn't going to muffle much just like the pepper pot type don't. It's too small.

Back in the 1980's & 90's all the luxury "Land Yachts" had functional cornering lights. At night, with you directional on, the proper side lamp came on, the headlights stayed on during the turn. Fast forward to the 2020's - cars have factory LED or HID headlights. The cornering lights are long gone. The issue is that with the headlights on, you activate the directional and the headlight on that side goes DARK !! A WTF senario to me. The only forward illumination you have is the headlight on the farside & the intermittent flashing of the amber directional.... Once the directional is cancelled, the dark headlight comes back on - after taking its sweet time. I guess you have to look for a vehicle with huge directional lights.... of be like a BMW driver and never use it.... Progress ???

Check you mule drive and center pulley bearings, The remains of that belt look too good for it to come apart like that. When I had a customer come in with a shredded belt I told them if the new one fails right away, I won't warranty it until I see all of the pullies. They almost always had at least one bad one.

With tires like that, I'd sure feel each rock in my yard! A few years ago, I made wooden wheels for my mower deck in an experiment for height adjustment. They worked and I haven't replaced them yet.

Pretty cool little frogs. Usually green in NC from what I've seen and lots of them here. Haven't really heard them yet this year but they rule the sound waves in the summer evenings. It's pretty common that we get one on a kitchen window where light draws bugs at night.

You obviously don't have a cat. It ain't work if you are enjoying what you are doing. If it doesn't bring you joy then why are you doing it? Over the past nineteen years of retirement I have built several houses and countless wheel chair ramps with Habitat for Humanities, done two major renovation projects at my church and built a new home for my wife and I, but none of that was work because I loved doing it.

@Ed Kennell nature is a wonderful thing , had one on a tree next to the shed, they hide in plane sight , was looking at a cardinal in full bloom , right next to the frog , turned around to get something , they were both gone , humming birds are the deal , we were in arizona , small town leaving flagstaff , drive down into the desert , you just had to stop , hummers were everywhere, every color , size / type , also saw a mountain lion , in the shade . pete

Welcome!! That deck is earlier than the 1966 856 tractor. Probably a 1963 ot 4 36" model. I refer to that style as the "suitcase" era - they are an open rectangular design, the 1966 would have the curved corners and no removable sides. Both are gear driven - not a bad design when it is working OK.The blades spin in opposite directions and MUST be timed 90 degrees apart so they do not collide. Do check the condition of the large cast iron bearing housing plate under the deck. Look for a crack in the center, indicating that someone hit a fixed object while mowing. Most parts can be found used. Bearings & seals are still available new. Look over "The New to Herd" checklist - great info for what to look for and what to avoid.... Lowell at WheelHorsePartsandMore has the reproduction 3rd gears for sale... Popping out of third is a common problem - caused by the unknowing (or uncareing) shifting on the fly from 2nd to 3rd. Pick a gear and let the clutch out - no shifting unless stopped. Be CERTAIN that the seatpan latch works properly. There is a good reason they no longer make them like that. If the latch comes undone and you don"t know it, you WILL know it when you let the clutch pedal up and you get pitched off out the back!!

The auto dimming feature is a love hate thing with me. Sometimes they will dim and I'm wondering why, there's nothing around except maybe a bright yard light or maybe a white street sign. If the car in front of me has dim tail lights then they seem to wait longer to dim than I would expect. I've learned just to let them do what they want to do.

Same for me on the ’22 Volvo with one addition--when I turn the steering wheel at night, a portion of the headlight beam moves toward the turn in proportion to the amount of steering input and the inside fog light illuminates. There are even a couple of “cutouts” in the headlight beam that indicate the track the car will follow. Pretty slick. In a similar vein, I remember the “auto dimming” sensors on my (wealthy) uncle’s Caddies and Lincolns. The Volvo has something similar but it also dims the highs when reaching an area with overhead streetlights or when getting in radar range of a car ahead! I might add here that there isn’t a single incandescent lamp in the entire vehicle--LEDs throughout.

If the muffler is installed horizontally, it needs a support bracket that is mounted to the engine, not the tractor. I made a stack muffler for the 854 a while back using a short glasspack. Used several fittings that are threaded and tack welded. Unscrewing the muffler and support allows removal of the fitting assembly...

I'm still working on Donna's garden (in between trips to the vet). I had garden soil delivered today, and because of rain last night, the dump operator wouldn't drive on my lawn. No problem, I'll just use the FEL! Unfortunately, I listened to the driver when he suggested putting a tarp down. It just slid around, tore, and generally got in the way. I'm the end, however, I got the soil in place. Now to get the wooden "frame" down, put down landscape fabric in the path in the middle (a path! a path! a path!) <- [for you Monty Python fans!], and then mulch. Oh, I also got some pea gravel for along the road. 😉

I am no betting man, unless it’s loading a trailer or something easy, but I think this will sound great! It’s just tacked up. I want to get some rear hangers, square it up and level it, then final weld it.

After almost 4mo of complications & bout 88days in hospital after quad bypass my dad passed last Thursday morning at home while sleeping. Finally took some "me time " alone in the garage to install stack on RJ. Thanks again to Chad Burris. This is 3rd stack i bought from him. 20250429_102146.mp4
