13 pointsAnother product of the Elgin road trip I made a while back when I picked up the 78 Dino C-121. This trailer is well built and has excellent balance for dumping. It's a natural behind the 854 which is where it likely will be most of the time. My addiction to red paint forced me to freshen it up a bit. Wire wheeled, sanded, primed and Regal red. I used a roller with some help from a brush. Back on it's wheels I prepped the inside this morning and got the first coat of bedliner rolled on. There will be at least one more coat applied, probably two. I likes!

7 pointsThis is all his fault. @Tonytoro416 just HAD to put pics of his Raider up, and it just derailed my tiny mind! My 701 engine is at the machine shop, and it'll be a couple weeks before I get it back so... I've actually been tinkering on this machine off and on for a long time. After building all those reciever hitches for my primary workers, I realized that not one machine I have has a working clevis hitch and/ or a rear tiller hookup. With this one, I'm gonna fix that. This is gonna be a worker. And no, it's not gonna be a trike. I just didn't have time to put the front axle on it. Of course this is just mock up to make sure I have all I need to start. This will not be a restore, but I'm definitely gonna have to clean it up and paint it a little.

7 pointsI picked up this Roof Ranger from a buddy last winter, took it apart, because I can’t leave well enough alone and replaced the belts, tires, seat & a few other things. Cleaned it up and put it back together. 5 HP Briggs with a 24” cut, I believe this is from the 60s or early 70s. This engine is pretty tired, it’ll sometimes fog for mosquitoes while I mow. I mowed the yard with it today, this thing drives with a rubber wheel running on a flat pulley. The deck is welded to the frame and pushing down on the handle raises the front of the deck, it has a cutting height from 1”- 3”. Holding the handle down as I mow is pretty awkward. 2 speeds forward and one reverse.This thing just might be the reason OSHA came into existence.

4 pointsA few years back I bought a 42” RD deck, but found out it has noisy spindles. Today, I finally got a round to removing the spindles so I can replace the bearings. Special thank you to @Rob R for helping me get the blade nut off 2 of them!

4 pointsI have a Wheelhorse 502 that I restored many years ago. The engine is tagged HT55B-3088P. I’ve read that the correct engine should have been a HT55C-3088P so to start with I don’t know the difference between the HT55B & C? Also there is a second tag on the engine SBH 54D 5215 5213. After doing a little more research it sounds like some of these engines might been repaired or rebuilt at some point with a new short block housing installed. I’m assuming that my engine had the lower part of the engine replaced with a short block part number SBH 54D. It looks similar to an H60 short block. It is aluminum but has a 1” output shaft like the original HT55B though. I will attach some photos, and would appreciate any information on this possible past repair with that short block assembly SBH 54D 5215 5213. It is a mystery to me at this point. Thanks, Doug

4 pointsNational Zipper Day is on April 29 and we are full of zip for this day! We take many things in life for granted and the humble zipper is one of them. Have you ever paused to reflect on how zippers play a huge role in our daily lives? Zippers come in apparel, purses, boots, etc. and are incredibly useful. A Swedish-American electrical engineer employed at Universal Fastener, Gideon Sundback, is credited with designing the modern zipper. He got the first patent for a “Hookless Fastener” on April 29, 1913, which was later developed into the “Separable Fastener”. It took a while to become popular as it was mostly a shoe fastener in the beginning after which the military started using the device during World War 1 for flying suits. Some manufacturers even used the device on tobacco pouches. Nevertheless, it was precisely a decade after this device received its first patent, that it would actually be called the ‘zipper’. The term was coined by B.F. Goodrich in 1923 because of the sound it made.

4 pointsIn case you don't know there is a group over on Facebook that deals the roof stuff. That thing might be worth something?? I looked for one of those Palomino Jeep style mowers for a while, ended up building my own on a 520xi frame. Either they wanted way to much or there was none around.

3 pointsThanks Steve. I made a couple changes and felt a bit of guilt doing it. Basically taller tires to get the height up and converted to a 2" ball coupler. My other stuff is 2" and that's what the tractors have. It's definitely going to get some use around the Parks Ponderosa I can't today but lets try to Skype tomorrow midday.

3 pointsMake a 90deg elbow bend in a flat screwdriver. Wiggle that bend behind the bearing inner race, then use a long drift pin from the outside axle tube and tap on the screwdriver bend...gently ,,,moving around the circumference of the inner race. It will move little by little. Been there ---dun that.

3 pointsI have a 312-8 the tractor must have been apart before I got it that part was missing. The good thing about it is all the dirt and grass falls out and that stays cleaner.

3 pointsWe buy flags from a store in Springfield, MO. I think it's family owned and they have good quality flags. Before mom entered assisted living, She would use her sewing machine and sewed extra rows at the edge. This helped with the fraying. Sometimes, she would fold the edge over and sew several rows thus giving it a bigger hem. It wasn't noticeable as it didn't affect the length enough that a person could tell by looking at it but it sure extended the life of a flag. Our fiberglass flag pole is starting to show it's age. The black granite below the flag is in memory of our son who died almost 18 years ago. He loved Ole Glory and had a flag pole at nearly every house he live in while in college. Now that we have entered the discussion of GPS and maps, I'm a paper map fellow myself. I'll even google the destination on computer and then draw my own map with the details on paper with landmarks and notes to direct me where we are headed.

3 pointsYesterday, despite losing the governor spring for my Troy-Bilt rototiller, I managed to till Donna's new garden. Being an area that we sprayed with 30% vinegar to kill the long established grass, I had to do about 10 passes gradually increasing depth until I was about 5 in deep. My shoulders and back are complaining a bit. Tomorrow I will pick up all of the grass that I raked out of it and on Wednesday, 3 yards of garden soil is being delivered. Then I will begin cutting the 4x6s to size in order to frame both the old half of the garden and the new garden. She is in Denver right now, I hope to have this finished by the time she gets home. Oh, I got and replaced the governor's spring today. It's much nicer not having to try to till at low RPM, constantly having to stop to allow it to regain revs. I would have much preferred to use the wheel horse tiller, but I'll have it ready for any other tilling very soon!

3 pointsToday I washed 39 years of grease of my new 36" tiller in preparation for replacing the tine shaft oil seal (pn 103118) on one side. I have been applying penetrating oil now, and I'll try to remove the tines tomorrow. Then, I'll look for a source for the seal. EDIT: It looks like Lowell is the man for the seals. I'm also looking for (2) deck pulleys, pn 109967, if anyone has some used.

2 pointsThis is the deck that came with the 416 I bought last fall and just brought home. Previous owner decided that ATV tires were the way to go so the deck has unfortunately been notched for clearance. Teardown just started. This pulley was seized to shaft. Heating the center of the pulley red hot freed it up. The other two just slid off. Deck shell. Other than the notched cut out it looks to be in great shape. Deck baffle is not as good. Deck parts

Combination wrenches are just grouped by size range. No revelations or unique strategies that I can offer for any takeaways...

2 pointsI don’t weld but a friend of mine does. Bought this 42” RD deck last fall and didn’t look at it as closely as I should have (that’s on me). Baffles were rotted and flopping around under the deck. New material is a low grade stainless. The two 2” holes are for cleaning out that triangle space that just catches and holds onto grass/leaves and promotes rot. Next up is paint and reassembly

2 pointsI am no betting man, unless it’s loading a trailer or something easy, but I think this will sound great! It’s just tacked up. I want to get some rear hangers, square it up and level it, then final weld it.

2 pointsFirst thing to do is clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds. Test the voltage regulator by using a multimeter set on DC 20 volt setting and you should have 12+ volts on the "B+" terminal of the regulator with the engine not running but the key switch ON. If you don't have 12+ volts then go to the R terminal of the ignition switch to see if you have voltage there. If there is voltage at the voltage regulator "B+" terminal then start the engine and see if there has been any change in the voltage. Next place to check would be the two AC terminals on the voltage regulator. With the engine running at about half throttle and your multimeter on the AC Volts scale you should read about 35 AC voltage between the two AC terminals.

2 pointsI've been working on the tools again. The pliers were too thin at the web and fractured. So I had to start again. Bit of a pain but we learn by our mistakes. The adjustable wrench was a bit more involved, with shaping and milling to create the tee slot for the sliding jaw. The full size spanner on the left is an original Landrover one as supplied with the series 1 model. My version is just about the same, I'm quite happy with the way it looks.
