6 pointsLicense Plate Day is celebrated on April 25 to celebrate the first-ever issued license plate in the U.S. in 1901. Prior to this, there was no official marking or designation on any vehicle. The lack of acknowledgment hurt the vehicle owners because horses and carriages had more rights, and they could be denied access to roads. With the passage of the law, New York became the first state to issue a license plate on vehicles, and the trend was swiftly picked up by the entire West Coast states. Today, there are more than 250 million registered vehicles in the country, and each of them has a unique number plate.

5 pointsFinished product: Runs nicely and is somewhat typical of a @Pullstart pedigree... Rube Goldberg inspired from start to finish... Total investment = $210. Now I know Kevin thinks this was a consignment deal... but man, the chicks are really attracted to this thing... or wait, could it be the driver?!?!? if he wants it back he's gonna pay handsomely for it... I'm gonna sell it back to @Pullstart for $211. Pawn shop contract ya know...

5 pointsTake the deck off and great for tub pulling and yard work for those larger spreads. Easy on easy off . Bonus... has a Stevasaurus approved beverage holder ...

4 pointsPlanted 9 white pine saplings and one white oak sapling. Got them free at the local farmers market... about 12" high. Bare root - but 5 of 6 survived last year so I'm thinking odds are good... Raining steady right now so perfect planting timing... I'm aiming for a Michigan native woodland...

4 pointsToday was more yard work, now that the rest of the gravel from my driveway isn't frozen to the ground. The drifting gravel got raked back into the driveway, or loaded into my trailer hooked to the 312 to be redistributed and smoothed out with the 308. It could have been done easier but I figured I’d go the long more fun (tractors) way.

4 pointsThe band brakes used on wheel horses are self energizing going forward. not so in reverse... so reverse braking will always be a bit weaker than forward.

4 pointsSo I can't help myself. Saw this on CL for dirt cheap. Went and picked it up. PO said it needed a battery, something wrong with steering, flat tire. Got it in my truck and brought it home. I have to laugh at how cheaply made they are but sell for crazy money. The steering issue was just a tie rod that came off at one end. Why it came off is because it's only held on by an r clip. Must worn off . Replaced it. Put a charge on the battery and it fired right up. Moves fine. Deck works. It has the bagger. That was an extra. PO bought it in 2016 when Sears closed it doors at a local mall. New these things are 2k, unbelievable how cheap and poorly constructed it is. Oh well. I have to get a front tire for it as it has a big tear in the center. Then as always pass it on.

4 pointsI use the Rotella t1 30w in all of my older flat head mowers and tiller engines. I use 10/30 in my ohv engines. I have had no issues using the Rotella in the old flat head engines. I live in SWVA and we have four seasons with moderate temps but if In a more extreme climate I would be more concerned with oil weight.

3 pointsI have a 1975 C-160 and an unknown year Model 310-8 for sale. Both were to be future projects but I can no longer do them. Both have decks, C 160 was my father's but hasn't run in 2 years. 310 was a barn find. Would like to see them go to a good home and be fixed up.

3 pointsJust add a bit of sawdust to give it a bit of texture and you are good to go.

3 pointsUpdate anyone? Life has been pretty busy but I managed to squeeze in a little bit of hobby time. Some might remember I purchased two of these. The plan was to restore both and sell one to have one 'free' tipper. Well plans changed and I've since sold one of them to my (not so) little nephew. He was looking for a dumper/tipper for a while and this was exactly what he wanted. Anyhow.. Disassembled, cleaned, painted and greased the support leg (?) on my little tipper. Makes coupling a lot easier. Might add a thrust washer later to make it even smoother but this will do for now. Next I tested and installed the cylinder which came with the tipper but wasn't installed when I bought it. I also reinforced the cradle in which the cylinder sits since it bowed a bit in the life it's had so far. Not too alarming but enough to make me want to stop further bowing. Next I made new hoses for the cylinder end, new hardline for the frame and another hose for hooking up to the tractor. Also started work on putting some lights on this thing because it only had reflectors on it 'from factory' so to say. Apparently in ye olde times it wasn't mandatory for slow moving (agricultural) equipment to have lights. The complete kit with lights, cables and a plug was about $40,- so for that kind of money I don't want to run the risk of getting a fine.

3 pointsOk just caught this thread and I see there needs to be some corrections ... There ... fixed that...
-
3 pointsSecond look that is a nice tractor ... What's he paying you Ed I'll double it ... 'Course I had a 160 that nice I would end up Pullstartasizing it and turn it into a plow mule. Way too nice a tractor for that. Then again a 160-8 is on the bucket list

3 pointsBe forewarned... Known to travel with sketchy compadres as well... Distance, depth of snow, freezing temperatures, state borders, lack of fresh curds, questionable friends in mid-Michigan, empty Capt'n bottles, the virtue of these little fillies... nothing stops them...

3 pointsAs for a lid, I really think the hood might become the lid! This filter is rated for 27 hp.

3 pointsI've noticed that how much water I drink will vary my blood sugar numbers. If I'm short on water, my numbers are up a few points. I almost always have one of those stainless steel vacuum insulated water glasses within reach. I just need to remember to drink from it when I'm deeply involved working on a project.

3 pointsWTF are you doing with that many dip stick tubes? Sumtin like that could easily get you a new nickname! That's a whole bunch of donor transmissions. And I thought Sparky was nuts for collecting plow blades! LOL

2 pointsJust had my garage floor epoxied. I had been thinking about it for a while. Two young firefighters that work with my son recently started a business doing it so I got the early adopter rate ;). They did an excellent job. The biggest pain was of course moving everything in and out. Thankfully my grandson helped me move the heavy stuff. before and after photo below.

2 pointsPaul is correct. Looking at the drum, it spins clockwise going forward. The band is tightened from the bottom and the drum surface is "forced" into the lining. In reverse the drum spins counter clockwise and is spinning away from the clamping force of the band

2 pointsI assume this is an 8 speed gear drive transmission. IF your transmission shows any sign of water (a tan milky look) or dark thick oil, you should definitely flush it with kerosene or diesel. Raise the front of the tractor as high as safely possible when draining to get the oil over the center hump to the drain hole. 1. Drain the old oil 2. Fill with kero or diesel 3. If it is running, drive it slowly in tight figure 8s using all forward and reverse gears. If it is not running, jack up one wheel and rotate that wheel by hand both directions while using all the gears. Repeat this with the other wheel raised. The goal is to rotate and wash all the gears and bearings. 4. Raise the front and drain the kero. If it is really black and dirty, I would repeat steps 2. and 3. till the kero comes out clean. 5. Then I like to fill with cheap low viscosity motor oil and repeat step 3. 6. Drain the light oil and fill with 90 wt rear oil. BTW, I save the drained kero for washing parts. And the drained motor oil for rubbing down to preserve the patina on the tins. While each wheel is jacked up, this is a good time to check the axle bearings for movement. There should be no up/down or front/back movement. In and out movement is normal up to about 1/16". The axle seals may leak some of the thin kero.,but should stop with the 90wt oil. If the bearings check OK and the axle seals do leak oil, the seals can easily be replaced.

2 pointsUse Rotella and forget about it. This is the inside of a 48 yr. old K181. I've owned it about 5 years or so. Use Rotella 30W all year round. This is the inside of a K341 with over 1000 hrs. I bought it at 700 hrs. and the oil inside was black as coal and it smoked. Same thing I used Rotella 30W year round. Finally had a broken piston skirt. it was still running when I replaced it and tore it down.

2 pointsI pick this up today. Needs some help but I have the parts. I have had many of this model 4 speed and 8. I have always enjoyed these eight speeds for sure grunt of power and pulling..This is my winter tractor for plowing. Needs some love. It has an over the big pond carb on it now. Runs ok but I have something for that. Hope you enjoy the picks.

2 pointsMan, you definitely got lots of different cool stuff. You might need one of these! Roof 60 tractor that needs some luv'n to bring her back to glory. But I don't have the 60" mower deck.

2 pointsMy father bought on just like that when I went on active duty in the Navy and he realized how big our yard was. Push mower was just fine if I was doing the pushing.
