Tell a Lie Day is on April 4 and it gives us permission to tell a lie within reason. It comes only a few days after April Fool’s Day and it makes for the perfect companion holiday for those still in the trickster spirit. There are certain times when lying is acceptable. One of which involves bluffing during a game of poker. It’s better to keep a straight face and act as if our hands aren’t as great as they are. Afterall, sometimes being as good liar can pay off! Tricksters have been around since the beginning of written myths. They’ve appeared in folktales all over the world as gods, goddesses, spirits, and animals with human traits that have the propensity for causing trouble. “Aesop’s Fables” is a collection of fables from a slave and storyteller in Ancient Greece that was published in 1876. In his story, “The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf”, a boy lies to villagers about a wolf eating his flock of sheep. The boy was actually lying to create a bit of excitement. When a wolf actually came, he told the villagers but they had caught onto his game and they didn’t believe him. The shepherd boy’s sheep were eaten and a wise man tells him that a liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth. In 1940, Italian author Carlo Collodi’s novel “The Adventures of Pinnochio” was adapted to an animated film. In “Pinnochio” an elderly and impoverished woodcarver was so lonely that he wished for his puppet to come to life. The Blue Fairy appears and grants him his wish, bringing life to Pinnochio, but he’s still made of wood. Through Pinnochio’s trials, he has to make a series of choices that test his goodness and if he tells a lie, his nose grows. The Washington Post Fact Checker began as a temporary project aimed at fact-checking the 2008 presidential campaign. Veteran reporter Michael Dobbs served as the Post’s Fact Checker columnist during its first temporary run. Dobbs started the column's use of its "Pinocchio" rating scale in September 2007. Statements ruled misleading receive one to four Pinocchios, with more misleading claims receiving the most Pinocchios. Today, being a liar isn’t seen as an admirable trait in most circumstances, but Tell a Lie Day offers people a chance at pretending for a little while.

Thanks for the add. Purchased my father-in-law's 1999 314-8 that he bought new, he used it for mowing his 3 acre yard until a couple years ago when he bought a zero turn. It was in pieces when I hauled it home, got it put back together and running. I mowed with it for about a year, and now it has sat for about a year. Need to do a little more work on it, but that's for a different post. Thanks all.

We got a "sick egg", a torn up slice of bread mixed with a soft boiled egg in a bowl.

Mom always fed us milk toast when we were sick, minus the sugar. Now sugar sandwiches on the other hand was an after-school treat.

The rear wheels on both pictured machines are the same, at 12x7.50. Those can be swapped. You can actually go up to 10.50 width with turf tires. The fronts are not the same. The wider 6.50 tires can be made to work with both, but the narrower front tires on the 856 may not fit the wider 414-8 wheels. Maybe with tubes?

So I lived thru six methods of music conveyance not counting radio...Tuna's old he prolly goes back to smoke signals. Vinyl Eight track Cassettes Reel to reel CDs Internet including other computer crap... flash drives, phones, Bluetooth... Back in '79 when I lived in CT there was a rock radio station in Harford... WHCN I think... maybe one of you CT guys know. They had a spot week nites where they would play hr half straight of stuff from one band. Doors, Clapton, ... what we now call classic rock. We used to record them on cassette. Made for some great tapes. We all had wicked audio setups back then ... real freaks about it. Receivers, amps, tuners, turntables, tape machines, big speakers, big money. Forums out there on it these days. Guess they call themselves audiophile. OK sorry for the stroll down that lane. So I still got all these cassettes and no way to listen 'cept the 95 GMC that eats them. Got a converter thingy in the Jungle & crawled in the attic for an old player. Not quite the quality what the frea..er .. audiophile would demand but bet if a guy was really good at it?? Anybody else do this? Anyone know anything about Audacity?

I just filled one with 1/2 quart extra by tipping tractor up on left side, fill, put in plug and lower it... easy peasy... that trick brought to you by @Pullstart...

Not a bolt at all. It's 3 pieces. 1 - 1" long 3/8" pipe nipple 1 - 3/8" pipe coupling. 1 - 3/8" pipe plug All pieces should be readily available at any hardware store. I believe pipe plug takes a 9/16" wrench.

Been working on the 1965 Fireball 8 that came out of my 875. This engine had some vertical scratches on the piston and the valve faces were dished pretty good. So new piston, rings and valves. I need to do a cleaning on the test stand carb a traitor! This is a spark advance/non compression release style engine. I'm going to put it in HHHOOOWWWAAARRRDDD!!! my 857. That engine stinks to high heaven when I use the tractor. So this engine will go in and I will rebuild the 857 engine and reinstall it when done. Then this 875 engine will be sold or put on the shelf.

Use a rolled up newspaper to singe off the hair. Stuff them like a turkey. Roast with onions spuds, and parsnips. They are nocturnal, but I often find the flat species sleeping in the middle of the road.

Broke out the pressurized (canister) sandblaster today, finished blasting the weight box for the '73, and got a coat of primer on that and other related parts. Hopefully I'll get the red on tomorrow. Low end paint job; Rustoleum and a roller. Maybe I'll try to learn how to use a sprayer one of these days. I need to get an air feed for the sandblaster headgear and some gloves that won't fill up with media. (I'm going to try to modify an old CPAP machine to blow air into the hood.)

More progress today: filled trans with a secret recipe derived of 30 wght and Lucas oil treatment... only the Baldwin sisters on Walton's Mountain know the true "Recipe"... Predator 212 is the power plant. Done 2 previous and I know what to expect... TSC pulleys ( Made in USA!) and belt from Tractor Supply. Fitment and clutch figurementation next... still working out hand vs foot pedal clutch system due to auto to manual swap... right now, hand lever is the leading concept... All for now...

Neither did anyone else! LOL Quite possibly the worst thing invented to play music. You had to wedge a matchbook in with them sometimes to get them to play right.

Once I got it cleaned up and blown out, I saw I was fighting with nearly melted plastic too, I was able to finally get it freed up. I've got a stens branded switch coming in Sunday. I'll see if I can source new lock inn crimps locally, if not I'll make do with the basic style I have on hand. Thanks

Not exactly a basket case… I’ve hauled worse home before (just not wheelhorse). Just put back together what my father in law started, and with subsequent trips to his shed looking for missing pieces.., think I found most of them.,

Makes sense. I Would much rather fill the transmission thru that hole than having to remove the shifter.

There is a tab on the connector that needs to be pushed in, then the terminal will come out of the back of the plug. Yep! My two brothers and I ate plenty of sugar sandwiches when we were growing up right here in the midwest of the US of A. We also consumed milk toast. Buttered toasted bread in a bowl of warm milk with plenty of sugar.

Got the new grommets and 90° tank to 1/4 barb fittings 5 grommets and 3 fittings was a little over $14 shipped and after tax.

Hello everyone, I'm posting here because I have not posted in about 7 to 8 years... so much was changing and has changed that I wanted to reintroduce myself. When I first joined 10 years ago I had just bought a house and gotten married to my HS sweetheart. We live in SW Michigan. I acquired thru trading my first 312-8 and found my 2nd love lol. In those days I was working at a local scrap yard and was bringing home tractors and implements daily. I had 14+ wheel horses at any given time. Also 7 years ago when I stopped posting we welcomed our first daughter into the world and in turn my world really changed. Wow did I have some learning to do. In that seven years I slowly found homes for most of my wheel horses and got down to only 2. Most went to kids for free with a first right of refusal clause. Then my second daughter came along. My wife graduated college and I started a demanding career. Our lives were a whirlwind. So now I have my amazing wife and 2 beautiful little girls, I'm truly blessed! Through all of this I held on to my favorite horses my first 312 and my 310. I also somehow ended up with a 312-A. Most summers they sat in the back of the pole barn as I mowed with a zero turn, winters they spent put away as I plowed with my bobcat. I never lost my interest just my time was precious. Recently I dug out my 310 to go live at my good friends house for his twin boys to enjoy they are 7 years old a very excited. This made me get my very first wheel horse the old faithful 312-8 out and started. It really hit me then. I have been missing my horses. Now my girls are old enough to enjoy garage time with me. (Dad keeps kool-aid jammers by the dozen in the garage) this lead me to buy a project for us. Im excited to share this with my girls they may never be gear heads like me but I want them to have understanding of doing things for themselves and quality engineering. I also would like to raise them with some awareness of things mechanical. So I stumbled across a big single 16hp k series from a C161. Out back behind the barn I have a complete minus engine C85. The plan is to make us a new horse with these. We are hoping to do a kinda restomod tractor. My list of horses now go 1988 312-8 1987 310-8. going out on longterm loan 1986 312-A. been on longterm loan for 2 years, getting its second rider now that big brother moved to a larger tractor. Unknown year C85 frame Unknown year 416 frame Tons of parts scattered between a pole barn and a shed. Numerous implements behind the pole barn.
