Today is our 38th wedding anniversary so we went out for a lovely meal. A pub called the Dunkirk about 16 miles away (that's a long way for an English man to travel for dinner). Can't believe it's been that long since two kids not long out of their teens tied the knot and settled down. She looks just as gorgeous now, the dessert is a treat as shes been losing weight really well fir the last ten weeks.

Bring them. Hang a price tag on them. If they aren't sold by the end of the day Thursday, then you know you are asking too much. Lower the price accordingly.

For many of us the Big Show is about the people more than the parts and tractors for sale. Last year my truck was loaded fully and the only thing that wasn't pre purchased was a belt guard that I picked up for another member. If an item is priced too high people are not shy about letting you know. If you don't accept their offer it is unlikely that they will return to make another offer unless it is a hard to come by item. Best bet is to post it in the Big Show pre-sale thread at a fair price, most people will be willing to pay in advance and pick it up at the show.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!! Haven’t posted anything in a long time… Im picking up a collection of 15 wheel horses and lots of parts over the next few weekends. I will make sure to post some pictures when I get them all home. Here’s a picture of what I bought for my birthday at an auction over the weekend.

Denali celebrates this day every day... he respects cats' rights to enter his yard... he particularly likes it when they do so on his watch...

Aaaaaand we’re going back together!!! Special thanks to @ebinmaine for transmission help dealing with the hubs, giving it an initial inspection and supplying me with the necessary parts. I replaced the bearings and seals and it’s ready to bolt back together and get some paint. Then this thing will be looking like some form of tractor again!! still lots of grinding and paint to do, but it feels like I have advanced the ball way down the field here. Very very motivated to keep this thing going!

Didn't get a bunch of photos, but got the head sanded straight. Ran taps through the bolts and block for the head bolts to clean the threads up. New Kohler points, new champion sparkplug, new condenser, put the rebuilt carb on Loaded up for plow day.

Like Bob said. You know your bottom line. Price them marked up with some wiggle room. Go from there. I can't speak for anyone else but if I was interested in a tractor and made an offer that I was comfortable with and it was rejected, I would walk away before getting into a bidding war. Chances are by Saturday the person or persons interested will have already spent their funds

Well done, Mr. and Mrs.! 👏 Marriages of that duration are especially worth celebrating when the partners still enjoy spending time together.

Did you know today is Respect Your Cat Day? It’s the day to celebrate you and your feline bestie! Your kitty pal has been there when you were happy—your kitty pal has been there when you were sad. Your kitty has, and always will, be there for you. So, this March 28, acknowledge all the hard work your cat puts into being your loyal companion. Considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians, many pictures and statues of cats have surfaced through the millennia. Around 500 BC the first cat was given to the emperor of China and quickly became a popular pet among the rich. French archaeologists discover a 9,500-year-old cat grave in Cyprus. In 2015 the number of cat videos on YouTube tops 2 million, with the average views hovering around 12,000 — higher than any other category of YouTube content.

Yeah, not many operating C series machines here… and the one that does has a yank start Kohler with its own tank.
  16. 3 points
We’d a had tah swap tanks, I don’t have any spare grommets!

I think that nails my issues with Onan engines. Quite honestly a P216 or P218 does indeed have fewer problems, even without the valve seat concerns. That being said I have a P220 in a Toro Groundsmaster that had well over 3000 hours on it when the deck rotted out. But it also had a remote oil cooler. I'm certain it would crank even now after sitting for a couple years.

Here is the check list I had when I bought my 856. 1. Parked in woods and left for 20 yrs. 2. Tires and wheels buried half way in the ground rotting. 3. Weeds and trees growing through the frame. 4. Plants and moss growing out of the seat. 5. Covered in dirt, rust, and crusty as can be. So after I found one that checked all these boxes I dragged it home, cleaned it, cleaned fuel tank, installed new carb, new battery, put new tires and wheels on it, gave it some fancy pinstripes, changed seat. It is now one of my most reliable Wheel Horses I have ever owned. They are bullet proof. Yes it's an 8 horse power but it is always ready, willing and able to complete the task it is asked to do.

When I lived in Florida I always had to go out of state to find a Wheel Horse, A 300 mile round trip for a nice short frame is well worth it, price is very reasonable.

Once you have run it through a heat/cool down cycle it is a good idea to re-torque the head bolts. Have fun rolling dirt.

If you wait for the highest offer you will probably return home with 99% of what you brought. If you want to get rid of extra un-needed items put a reasonable price on it and you will return home with 20-50% of what you brought. Many members (me included) even end up with a free pile because they don't want to haul some stuff back home.

I have to admit the same, even though none of mine are this version. I think they are the cleanest, toughest looking of the bunch.

Assuming my tanks are original my 72 raider has no grommet just the nipple. My 73 has a grommet as well as my 74 I think when the tank switched from under the hood to under the seat it still has a grommet correct?
  30. 2 points
He probably doesn't have many tractors with those grommets.

They are carriage bolts so I can't really do that with them as it needs a washer on the weight side and the square of the carriage bolt fits in the wheel. I will probably just cut them a bit shorter.

Bob I will ask when I take my old B-80 starter to him. missing one tooth on Bendix. (Supposed to be 16) and pretty well worn! Thanks Bob for the washer idea placing under the PTO side of the starter to align my new replacement starter. And taking the motor tin off to see how the alignment fits is also a good idea when placing a new starter on a motor!

Getting close to done on the she shed. Got all the furring strips down on the side awning yesterday and hope to have roof metal on today/tomorrow. Then on to concrete. Doing a 14’x36’ slab down the front of both sheds. Then a carport. There is a reason I am not on here much anymore. 😂

Afternoon, New member here, looking at getting my first Wheelhorse, going to look at a 1966 856. seller says used last 3-4 years to pull 4000lbs boat. Somewhat underpowered. Runs starts everytime. Needs gauge wheels and deck spindle. Rear tires water filled and cracked badly. Told him I’d offer him $400.00 if I’m cosntion he states it’s in upon inspection. Total id be around $5-550.00 with tractor, trailer and 300 miles round trip. How does this sound for pricing based on description and condition? I’m in central Florida, looked online all over state and most is junk overpriced for garden tractors, not much to choose from down here. I’d be using it mainly to pull a steel wagon on property. Maybe get something to help me flatten or drag or cut some weeds- best impliment for that? thank you.

1995 416-8, was running like crap, would hardly stay running, surging the whole bit. Thinking it was the carb, I took the carb apart, cleaned everything, put it back together, better but still running poorly. So take it apart again, clean check float level put it back together and the same. Thinking I am having the split manifold issue, busted out the carb cleaner (luckily already had some for the carb cleaning) and sprayed around the intake. All was good, except when I came to the front, near the intake port, definite change when I hit it there. So getting ready to remove the intake, I broke loose the exhaust bolts (no issue what so ever) then broke loose the intake, Well, well wouldn’t ya know, get to the one intake bolt and it’s backed out like 1½ turns! Thinking the intake gasket has to be trash, I tighten it up and give it a test. Vrooommmm… Starts perfectly and runs like a champ! Going to add that check to the 416-H, although that one runs perfectly anyway.

I have that same deck 42" RD. Some were recyclers, a block off plate bolts there to help with mulching. I took it off mine.

I think it's heat plus the larger bore. This makes the area between the cylinder wall and the valve seat just thin enough to cause problems.

Thanks! I have used it to plow the garden, but that isn't much of a comparison to a plow day. Just really glad the rubber grommet split now when I was working on it. And not when everything was hot during the plow day.

Yes tons of torque and sound amazing. But stuff loosens up. Intakes, carb mounting bolts, bearing retainers, valve seats and oil filter adapters. Kinda like a Harley!

We (Mrs. 8n and I) flew out to Sacramento last Thursday for a robotics meet. We flew out a day early and wandered around Sacramento for a day. Spent several hours in the California State Railroad Museum and wandered around Old Town Sacramento a bit. We did Ok at the competition, ending up as the captain of the #5 seated alliance. We made it into the final round of the 8 alliance double elimination playoff. Unfortunately, we did not win. High level of competition in this meet. The #1 seated alliance who won had a 5 time world champion team and a one time world champion. In our alliance, we are one of the 2024 world championship teams, and our first pick was a world champion in 2015. My wife and I caught some sort of a bug while we were there, so we didn't tour San Francisco with the team after the meet. We had planned to stay in San Francisco a couple of days after the team. We did manage to get to the aquarium on Pier 39 and have a nice lunch there. Got a kick out of watching the sea lions there, too. The bug gave us both a severe cough, so we opted to cancel our return flight and rent a car to drive back to Kansas City, as we are currently in our Missouri winter quarters. Our route took us through Barstow, Las Vegas, Denver on our way back to reclaim our car out of long term parking at KCI. Wonderful scenery along I-15 and I-70. Bad traffic on I-70 between Vail and Denver on Sunday afternoon - seems like about 1/3 of Denver decided to go skiing in Vail that weekend and left to go home Sunday afternoon. When we started out, we thought of a Thelma and Louise type trip. Turned out to be more of a Kermit and Fozzie the Bear sort of trip. We enjoyed it enough that we want to make a similar trip in the future when we are healthy, and have more time to stop at some of the interesting looking things that we had to pass up this time.

Below is what I saw this morning. Now we can mow and keep the poison ivy, wild rose bushes at bay and beavers won't have anything for housing and food.

10 horse Kohlers are some smooth runners for sure! A really good one must purr like a kitten! I think the 65-67 tractors were the best lookers! With the 78-79 C-series in a close second! Absolutely excellent herd you have there!
