No one who has heard the National Anthem as performed by Jimi Hendrix holds a neutral opinion on it. Max Yasgur’s farm in upstate New York was not the first place he had performed the Star-Spangled Banner; it was a part of his playlist and had been such for over a year. The schedule for entertainment at Woodstock had been trashed by Monday morning when Jimi Hendrix came on stage to close out the weekend, he had been scheduled for the night before. Of the 400,00 attending that weekend only about 30,000 remained by Monday. In the summer of 1969 protest songs calling for the end of the Vietnam War were prevalent and patriotism amongst young Americans was extremely low. Some felt the Hendrix rendition of the National Anthem was just another protest ballad but the anthem had become a fixture on The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s concerts since August 1968. He played it because he loved our country. Hendrix had been a US Army paratrooper and the National Anthem was an affirmation of his pride in the American experiment and the opportunities it had afforded him. The sounds Hendrix drew from his Fender guitar were a reflection of the agonizing polarization which was tearing our country apart and destroying Vietnam. Hendrix treated the song with surprising reverence. Without the pyrotechnics, Hendrix’s approach was as much a statement about his feelings about war as it was a demonstration of love of country. Since the origins of the Star-Spangled Banner were rooted in wartime it was a perfect vehicle for Hendrix’s complex vision of incorporating stunning technical work with completely new ideas in feedback. One man with one guitar said more in three and a half minutes about the agony that swept our nation and its reverberations than all the novels, memoirs, and movies that have ever been produced. Vocalists, bands, and instrumentalists have added their twist to the National Anthem and I for one appreciate all of them, including this one.

Damn. I came here 2 years ago with 1 simple wheel horse with a front end loader. A month or so ago I asked about & bought new rear tires. (With beet juice.) 2 weeks ago I asked about a rototiller & plow for my tractor. Now, in the last week, THIS happened! You guys are a BAAAD influence! And THEN, to start working on these, I picked this up for $100. With $100 - $200 worth of modifications, it will be a very capable cabinet blaster. Maryland attorney Francis Scott Key found himself aboard a British sea vessel negotiating the release of Dr. William Beans, a prisoner of war accused of misleading the British troops. While Key’s negotiation was successful, the British troops would not allow him to disembark the ship out of fear he may disclose the Brit’s battle plans to American forces. So, Key and Beans remained on the ship through the night witnessing the intense attack on Fort McHenry. Expecting American troops to have lost the battle, Key was astounded to see the American flag flying over Fort McHenry the next morning. The events of the evening ending in the triumphant flying of the American flag inspired Key to write a poem that ultimately became “The Star-Spangled Banner”, our national anthem. By the early 1900s, there were several different versions of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” so President Woodrow Wilson asked the Bureau of Education to standardize it making one official version. The Bureau hired five musicians, including John Philip Sousa, to standardize the song which was first performed on December 5, 1917. Finally, on March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional order into law making “The Star-Spangled Banner” America’s national anthem. National Anthem Day falls on March 3 annually commemorating the signing of the law.

No work today so I got a little done on the tractor. Moved all the painted parts out of the cold garage and into a nice warm house for a week of curing. Yes my wife is very understanding. This actually happens every time I restore the tractor. Jim hooked me up with a correct set of front rims which I mounted a brand new set of vintage style Firestone tires on. For the rear I kept the vintage diamond tread BFG's. They have a few weather cracks but are in pretty good shape for 50+ year old tires.

My son and I were using an LED strip light as a trouble light and forgot about it as he drove his Landcruiser out of the shop. It bent the heck out of the light, but it still works just fine!!!!

Well the garage floor was devoid of getting any red paint last year so I made up for it with a fresh coat today. All of the small & ruff parts received a coat of self etching primer, 2 coats of enamel primer and 3 coats of IH red. Next weekend I plan to wet sand and paint the sheet metal parts. Speaking of this, @WHX?? are you up for some wet sanding next Saturday??

While living in a small central New York community I became a volunteer fireman/EMT. One of the other EMTs was our local Funeral Director/Mortician, being a very small town most people knew who he was. When he was tending to an ill oy injured person they would wonder if he was feeling mixed emotions while helping save their lives.

I noticed you said "motorcycles". This statement tells me that your wife already knows that you like to collect things. I would not recommend that you start to collect wives though. The maintenance on one wife is already time consuming enough.

He seems to be a Wheel Horse guy. Working on a D-180 in the video I watched tonight. He’s in Indiana I heard him say. Could he be a member here??

Kind of a Youngun’ here, after reading the later posts, I do now. I learn something new every time I get on this forum, tractor related or not.

Amish neighbor has a wringer washer, the "ringer" didn't waste the baby's thumb, the belts and pulleys underneath did it. I spent all day running the family around Lancaster County to find a quack doctor, that wasn't at the horse show, to get the kid fixed up with a cardboard cast.

I went from 1 $200 C105 to 7 Wheel Horses in just a years time! (That was in 2023) Probably good that I'm outta room for any more tractors. Have plenty other toys taking up space as well.

There's an old double tub Dexter with a Ringer still in the basement at the farm. Used to get some of the water out before hanging on the line.

i just started watching the video on the D180, and, lo and behold, he answered a question raised some time ago on how the carb could be causing gas to enter the crankcase. I was meaning to ask a buddy about that and get back to @ebinmaine with the answer (needle and seat sticking) but never followed through. Well there it is (@5:40 mark)! Thanks.

Cold weather will make it crank harder even with 10/30 in it. Going by the video you posted, that main cable going to the generator is pretty crummy. You can tighten the posts by removing the cable on the offending post and tighten the lower nut. You will need 2 7/16" wrenches to do it. The bottom one needs to be a thin wrench to fit between the gen body and the cable. Hold the bottom nut and take the top nut off. Then tighten the bottom nut. All my start/genny engines spin right over with 30W in them. Why? Good batteries, new oversize cables and clean mounting points.

It's took me just under five years but I've tracked down my ideal mowing tractor. After deciding I needed a second tractor to save all the hitching/unhitching with a garden and lawn to tend, I figured a 512-D for the grass would be the ticket. A year later I gave up on that idea when a local-ish 518h came up on ebay....a good tractor, but in hindsight not really right for me. So I kept a eye out, this spring 3 or 4 512's sold on that auction site, but they were either too far away, too expensive or too knackered. Then a couple of months ago I go to a farm sale, last thing I'm thinking about is and there in the line of spares/miscellaneous items is one. Well to me thats a sign. Price paid left me with money to hopefully put it right, transmission drive belt,engine iso mounts, gearbox seals have got me this far. There's more to do but thats the fun of it,... My "new" line up.

@Pete D The same thing happened to me…. I’ve only been a member since last May, I started with trying to figure out what I had when I got my 312. Currently I’ve got the 312-8 and recently got a 308-8. Once the snow melts, where I live I’ll have parts enough from @ebinmaine to build another running 312. And still have a Workhorse parts tractor. Not to mention the implements like my plow and the extra mowing deck and attach o matic I have. They are definitely an influence 😁

Since Texas was its own Republic when it became a State, it negotiated the Texas flag maybe flown at the same height as the US flag when on separate poles. It is the only State to have this privilege. While there may be a lot of things they call “Texas”. We’re really just like everybody else. Just a few less Wheel Horses down here.

my grand parents had one of those in their basement. I even got to try it out once. Successfully- none of my fingers are flat.

Interesting you have feral hogs in Pa. They are certainly a problem in a lot of Texas areas. They are also very smart. If you have the money you can pay a helicopter guide and hunt then on large ranches with a machine gun.

A mangle is a big ironing machine, used for sheets & such before the days of permanent press. Called a mangle because if you weren't careful, that's what would happen to your hands & arms.

I'm on my 3rd (and final) wife. I will NOT be collecting them! I just got her a scooter. Now she has to finish getting her license. Noooooooooooo!! I plan to do several mods. The gun may have to wait right now, as will a foot pedal. I have some upgraded parts on my old HF pressurized blaster I may steal. I have been watching YT vids and joining HF modification groups on Facebook.

Once, in my early 20s I had two girlfriends at the same time. I lived two hours from one, three hours from the other, they both knew about the other, so there was no daily face-to-face time requirement and no effort had to be put into sneaking around, and it was still exhausting. I can't imagine how I'd have done it if I'd hung on to both of them. Although I have also been told that the one I broke it off with literally stressed the next guy to death.

Nice score on the HFT Cabinet. I have the same one - did i a few mods to make it usable. Lowered the internal screen to fit taller parts. Improved the lighting. Tossed the awful gun & pickup tube. Replaced with US device and relocated the pickup to the cleanout door. Added 2 10" pneumatic tires on the left end. Inflate them to move the cabinet, deflate them when in position. Added a dust collection using a 5 gallon pail with a gallon of water as a particle trap. Suction provided by a shop vac ALL there are in YT videos.

Let us know when you can't remember how many you have, I stopped counting at twelve. Your fun has just begun....

My garage isn't cluttered. It has steps installed on the floor to clear all my projects.

Today I started working on my 414. Raided the heating oil, then drained, flushed, & filled the transmission. Water & froth in it was responsible for that look, not metal. I replaced the blown headlight & it's working twin with LEDs. They are BRIGHT! (Sorry for the messy shop.) Ordered an NGK plug to replace the Champion. Bought oil to change it. Much more to do, this is just a start. Tomorrow, after picking up a '73 frame, disassemble & clean carb.

There are two windings...the start and the charge...the charge does assist the Start when cranking but the start does not assist the charge so your charge coil is probably bad.

There should be a spring around the idle screw. Remove the screw, stretch the spring out so that it will keep more tension on the screw. A little blue or purple Loctite on the threads will add some resistance as well.
