9 pointsRestoring this 42” SD deck that was on a C-101 I purchased recently. Thought I could refurbish the spindles but they were in too bad of shape and all three were different types Looks like I’ll go with the 8Ten aftermarket spindles I can get all three for $145 so I’ll go that route I guess. Stripped all the paint off everything with angle grinder and stripping disk …what a chore! Still need to get anti scalp wheels and blades .

8 pointslooking great -- enjoy it -- but that one tractor looks lonely - needs some brothers and sisters -------- We built our shed ourselves 25 yrs ago -- 12x24 - starting with concrete slap, then we pre-built trusses on the ground using gussetts -- but after 25 yrs the Texture-111 siding was looking old so vinyl siding added - great for the tractors plus the loft storage for misc

5 pointsThis may get me into trouble, but Don’s post was accurate. Hundreds still unaccounted for. There are no military field hospitals, no chow halls. No temporary shelters. No engineers clearing or building roads. It’s nearly all civilians doing the work. It’s been 8 days now… National Guard (sadly most from other states) has made attempts to assist. But not nearly enough are here. This state has one of the largest Guard presence in the nation. They are not here. The civilian population is flying supplies and feeding people. They are sacrificing and doing it right. They are paying for it. The state and federal government are not. Their largest contribution has been to stand in the way. Most air rescues are civilian as well. Restaurants are feeding folks on their own dime from all over the state. I am so proud of the civilian outreach and sacrifices. They have shown that the American people are still good and selfless. We take care of our own regardless of our differences. I am disgusted with the emergency agencies response, as are many more. You should be too. And one last thing: This isn’t a political rant. Nobody cares which party you’re a member of. These are Americans helping Americans. Power companies and first responders are coming from all over the country. There are more than 50 private helicopters in use that cost thousands of dollars a hour to operate, and civilians are footing the bill. State and Federal agencies have the capability and resources to literally move Heaven and Earth, but they haven’t. There is no excuse.

4 pointsI spent some time cutting the rest of the coupler off the utility trailer. Also did some organizing in the barn. I put up a half sheet od pegboard where the electrical work desk is. Trina made up one of two doors for the new workshop space.

4 pointsThat happens to be a shade of green I can’t see. Looks gray to me. I’m almost 50 and just figured out a couple of years ago i have some limited red/green color blindness. It’s been a wonderful excuse to have for making such poor and non-coordinating sartorial choices my whole life. Yet, I can clearly see the difference between Wheel Horse RED and John Deere GREEN… Love the shed! It’s very sharp looking. My HOA doesn’t allow such freedom here 😡 (in fairness, I knew that before I moved in). Enjoy the newfound space! steve

4 pointsHere in north Georgia we really dodged the bullet with minor damage. Didn't even lose power at our house although I was expecting it and had generator and lights ready. Seems we may have been in the eye and it was fast moving. Honestly wished we would have gotten more of the brunt if it would have minimized the damage in NC and TN. Its heart breaking to see the devastation, loss of life and poor government response. Glad all the folks listed here are doing OK. Trucking company aligned with our church has sent multiple tractor trailers with supplies. I took a pickup load of water, food and clothing over yesterday and they are still loading trucks. It will be years and years before things are back to normal. Praying for folks who lost everything and families washed away in their houses. Keep supporting church drives, Samaritans Purse and other groups getting supplies to those in need. Can't understand why TN sent national guard to the middle east, not to the areas impacted, FEMA has money for illegals but says they are running out of $$ for hurricane victims. All rescue operations were paused for the governor of NC to fly in by helicopter to shake a few hands while all airspace was stopped to let Biden and Kamala fly over. It's Americans helping Americans doing the best job. I can understand folks frustration....

4 pointsMore work on the old 308-8 today after work. A bit of greasing, lubing and removing and replacing three stuck screws, and the three other screws I got out, with bolts.Then replacing four heavily rusted clips with threaded inserts. It was a bit of a PITA but It’s coming along.

3 pointsMrs.W wanted small log store to sit by the rear door. She had seen a few on the interweb and price was crazy at a couple hundred quid. Said it needed to look like a sentry box type of thing. So I gave it a go with just scrap timber and a large ceramic tile for the roof material. Top section for kindling and the main compartment for small logs. Just needs a shelf popping in and it's done.

3 pointsReplacing the hinge rod with a removable pin is a good option. Can't remember who did that but you remove the front pin, unlatch the sides and lift it off.

3 pointsPlease go back and do some more research before echoing these rumors. Governors and others have praised the institutional responses and debunked the FEMA money claims. Had the leaders NOT flown in to be visible, I strongly suspect the hue and cry of “you don’t care about us” would have been raised even louder. Not ALL rescue operations were halted, only some and only in certain areas and only for a short time. Please avoid hyperbole. It is hard to comprehend the extent of damage to the road, power, water, sewage, and communications systems over a wide area. Taken together, they create tremendous logistical challenges both to those in the area and those trying to help. Reporters and influencers looking at small parts of the “elephant" and extrapolating to get looks and likes are adding to the confusion. Every vehicle and aircraft and person heading into a disaster area adds to the load of local administration and can add additional strain on local resources. If not coordinated, they become a burden not a help. The urge to help is understandable. Folks just want to DO something.

3 pointsExactly. Buyers' relentless focus on price (i.e. “have more for less”) has shifted the supply chain suppliers’ priorities. With few, if any, consumers bothering to understand and buy based on the specifications or standards, it is no surprise to me that it’s a race make stuff as cheaply as possible. As fewer buyers added the high-spec OEM item to their cart at three to four times the price of the “import," the OEM parts market has become untenable for manufacturers. Let he who never shops at Amazon, Walmart, Harbor Freight, etc. cast the first complaint.

3 pointsI have been on both sides of the political aisle and now being older I am much more conservative and care about the world we are leaving my kids and grand kids. I do not trust any main stream media, left or right. They have an agenda and my life is much better without their propaganda. There are places on the internet to get some truth, you just have to exercise critical thinking...a lost art to many it seems. Being thankful for what we have and taking care of our bodies with healthy food, not processed junk food, outdoor activities and enjoying family and friends goes a long way toward good mental health. Decentralizing is key...my family, my community, the things I can control are important.

3 pointsJeepers cats Bill some of those decks look NOS! Plenty of outlets for battery tenders. Coach lights add curb appeal. The Mrs swaps out different colored bulbs depending on the season. I have them on a timer/photo eye combo. Another suggestion is a ladder to the loft area which usually collects junk you prolly should have gotten rid of. Some of her crap too. Other wise a ladder needs to kept out there for those once a year trips up there to look at @Pullstart hood collection ...

3 pointsDepending on your electric needs here is an option I used. My tractor shed is a long way from the house and I didn't want to trench and cable since I do all the serious work in the garage. Bought a "kit" from Harbor freight with solar panels, controller and light bulb for just a couple hundred $$. Added a deep cycle battery and now I have light when needed in the shed and also use it to trickle charge the tractors and motorcycle. Just rotate it around as needed. Been very pleased with the set up for my needs. Just another option.

3 pointsSubframes are not all that complicated. Most subframes are a two part system to move the weight and forces of the loader to the axles reducing the strain on the tractor frame. My subframe is on the tractor but I do have a few shots of it that may be helpful. If your "D" has a three point hitch the rear weight box can be fitted to it, if not, the subframe will need to extend a couple of feet beyond the tractor for that. The rear portion is attached to the frame just behind the front axle and is clamped to the rear axle. The front half of the subframe is bolted to the front of the frame above the front axle. The uprights that the loader arms pivot on need to be firmly attached to the front section of the subframe to support them. One bolt is missing in this photo.

2 pointsMoved the 854 up to the workshop/garage so it can undergo adaptation of its new-to-me dozer blade. The trickle charger said all was fine but when I tried to start it to get it up on the trailer the solenoid only gave the deathly stutter clicking. Jumped it from the car and off it went. I guess I got all that I could from that 10 yo battery! I left it running on the trailer for the ride across town (got a few strange looks) so I could get it up the steep driveway to the workshop before shutting it off! Moved the Snapper down to the house for the fall mowing and leaf pickups.

2 pointsKevin, you can never get in trouble for telling the truth. I wish that there was something that could do to help other than send money. Agencies such as the Red Cross, Samaritan's Purse, local churches and charities, along with private groups are trying to carry the load, but they are overwhelmed. I'm old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan said this. "I think you all know that I've always felt the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help." Looks like his words are truer than ever.

2 pointsAt first look yes... no cutout for tank, mount hole wrong & hole for gas tank. '61 fer sure tho. Depends on what you are using it for. Leave as is has character and speaks volumes about it's past. Clear coat maybe??

2 pointsJust a thought on the rims. I had some front rims with holes and pin holes, rotted tires setting outside... I cleaned the rims as best I could with wire wheel and die grinder (get rid of any sharp edges). Used epoxy and fiberglass over the larger holes and coated thickened epoxy over pin holes. Painted them and put tires with tubes on them and have had great success keeping them in service.

2 pointsEpoxy set up pretty as you please. It will need a little grinding where the surface tension cupped it up against the tape dam. Need to knock the bearing in and pack the pulley bearing. May get to try it out today.

2 pointsThe John Deere L series came out over 20 years ago. They are made in the John Deere plant in Greenville, Tennessee. This same plant built the Sabre and Scotts tractors that were also John Deere's. The earlier Scotts were made by Murray, but the later ones were made by JD in Greenville. The L series were a deviant of the STX and LT lines that Deere made in the 1990s. They were entry level to compete against the MTDs, Sears, Murrays, etc. Most of them used the Briggs engines instead of Deere's premier L&G tractors which used either Kawasaki or Yanmar engines. Frames and decks weren't as heavy built as the X-series. They were designed as most of the entry level mowers to be 5 year mowers. Of course, with the proper maintenance they will last 20-30 years or more. But most customers bought them to have a John Deere and I see so many of them parked outside in the elements and having to mow foot long, overdue grass. I'm not a fan of these mowers regardless.

2 pointsI don’t think that was what Don was saying. There are dozens of firsthand reports of local law enforcement and other agencies making questionable calls. There are some awful reports that defy reason, but details aren’t important here. The entire situation is heartbreaking regardless. This thread was to check on our members, and is greatly appreciated. That being said, many of us are angry about the situation. I for one am not bothered by folks venting a little frustration. I believe it’s rooted in concern for fellow Americans. Nothing more.

1 pointWe’ve done than on our 500 “Clyde” where I added a front hydraulic lift. it works, but I’m still tempted to cut the hood so it’d lift like a GT-14 (or a number of those green things).

1 pointSomething I should have done decades ago is build a good hub puller. I'm struggling on the hubs on the Dino C-121. I put all the pressure within the limits of a three jaw puller I felt safe with. With the badly leaking seals I was hoping they would come off. The brake and drive came off easily but not the hubs. I logged on to search for ideas on what others built and this thread came up. Perfect! The type I've been planning but just never did starts with a 1/2" steel plate. I found a round plate on Ebay and went ahead and ordered it. When the shipping confirmation came it was from "Make it Ring Targets" and it hit me. 6\" AR500 Steel Gong Target, 1/2\" Thickness - 66538 | Rural King I never thought of that. Reasonable price and readily available. I had already soaked it for a couple weeks and I'll keep doing that while I wait on the steel. It should arrive about the same time as the new seals and brake lining.

1 pointI have a Yamaha 50 for the grand kids I bought used. Had trouble keeping it running so I set out to make adjustments. Both idle screw and main jet screw. Nothing I adjusted changed the way it ran. Took the carb off only to discover...the screws did NOT adjust anything... They were just for show. Took the bike to an indy shop where he put an OEM carb on it, said he refused to put a chinese carb on the bike.

1 pointThanks for all the information! I actually came across a marketplace listing of the same exact tractor in the auction! The guy forgot to delete his listing when he consigned it. He didn’t know anything about it though. He just saved it from the scrapyard. I got a few more pictures of it though. Really hoping I can get it for a good price! Not sure on what the engine is but he had some pictures of the serial number

1 pointThey aren’t cheap, but can usually be found on eBay. Just search “Kohler screen”. The 10-16 (K241, 301, 321, and 341) horsepower screens are all the same size.
