Lots of rain and strong winds yesterday but that's it

We did very well, lost power for a couple hours while we slept Thursday evening but we had no tree damage and the creek didn't come out of its banks so all is good. Great deal of flooding and roads washed out fifty miles east and west of our home, storm seemed to split and gone around the mountains. @clueless is right near where the hurricane made landfall so pray for their safety. Hope all is well for @Sailman, lots of flooding near Atlanta and he is near a large string of lakes.

Had some wind and about 9 1/2" of rain. No damage but lost power for about 5 hours. My son lives in Grovetown, GA 165 miles east of me and he had many trees down in his yard and neighborhood.

Thanks to all who advised me and helped along the way. The tiller is hooked up and works like a champ! After a few trial and errors with belts and routing and so forth I got it all together, believe it or not is pretty quiet when it’s engaged, even tho it was a tad muddy out today.. well actually a lot muddy, I ran it anyhow for a trial run… I wish I had one of these years ago!!!!!! I’m still trying to figure out the spring assist lift, I have none of that, but I can muscle it up easily enough. I’ll most likely run this around 4-5 times per year, so I’m not sure I’m too worried about that.unless one of you guys have a bracket or two laying around you’d sell. Anyhow, thanks again and here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.. and yes I installed the snow cab the other day to try it on for size and was too lazy to take it off.. and then it started raining while I was playing with my new toy, so at least I stayed dry!

On Tuesday of this week she had a bilateral knee replacement (s) . It was in Springfield Ohio and glad to be out of there without a car accident. Saw some stuff, believe me. Surgeons are a funny lot and they kept insisting that home was the best place to recover. We have a supplemental Medicare and when I was driving to the hospital to visit her the next day, a calm series of thoughts guided me toward listening heavenward and to my own common sense. When I started questioning some things about my conflict with me being the caregiver, suddenly they said if we went to a recovery center,it won't have to happen yet that day. She was still at a high pain level, but I did manage to get her there OK. The heavenly voice was correct in that there were and still are manageable problems internally that require a hospital setting. It would have been a nightmare to deal with them at home and may have required an ambulance to get her back to hospital. Now she is impatient with a great physical therapy team as well as proper care for her medical issues . My wife was pretty scared to have both knees replaced at once, but is now very happy that she did. We certainly are getting our money's worth for paying the extra premium.

This week I finally got a 418-8. Been waiting about 12 years or since my first Wheel Horse. Immaculate machine - I'm assuming stored indoors for 37 years. Fabulous rumble from the engine. Got it home, gave it a bath, discovered the chrome hub cups in reasonably good shape. Hope there's a thread on restoring them. Discovered rear axle attachment bracket with original clevis pins. Then I noticed the chain coming out the back Yup. Rockshaft and lift cable installed. Ready for a tiller. The best part - paid about $225 US.

1550 hours on the meter so a rebuild may be in the future. P.O. just used it to only cut grass (good sized property) and when the mower deck rotted away he decided to let it go. Had to wait a week to go get it and the sellers were inundated with calls - naturally. Good people. They made a deal with me and honoured it even with offers of more than they were asking. Sadly that kind of character seems to be lacking more and more these days.

Wow! $225! What a deal! Yours is in great shape, is the hour meter working? How many hours does it show? The 418’s are some of my favorite tractors. I too looked for a long time to find a 418-8 because I wanted the 18HP, 8-speed with the ELECTRIC LIFT for rototilling. I finally found one in Massachusetts, it was a little rough, but after some love it turned out nice. Prior to that I also found a 418-C in Massachusetts that was in great condition, and again just needed some attention. Not that I need it but I wouldn’t mind having a nice 418-A so I’d have all of the 418’s !!

Alright, I finally bought one without asking you guys 27 million questions. It’s a b80 8 speed for 350 dollars. Runs drives but needs a new carburetor that it comes with. I will show pictures this week. This is my second WH

The BBT and her Momma spent several hours processing firewood. They brought some up from the area behind the garden, split that, then stacked it. I worked on a few different things in the big barn and basement. Got another Kohler carb in the ultrasonic cleaner. Got the yard trailer lift mechanism bolted on. Got the road trailer in the barn for repairs too. That'll be getting a new front ball receiver, lift jack, and spring bushings with bolts. Also started working on a pair of plates for my hub puller. I'll post those in "Tools". Several tractors got to move around and stretched their legs a bit.

I added it to the herd. It’s in reasonably good condition, it runs great. It’s just worn and rusted a bit. it’s got a seized rear discharge deck roughly the size of the 37” one on my 312. So far it needs just little stuff a knob there and a greasing or lubing there. i think the attach o matic is seized or something broke in it as the handle moves but you can’t pick up or down the deck. I have a couple days off in the next few days so I’ll figure it out. Definitely not bad for $150.

I got the angle iron on and front stand back on. Also mounted a chain through the front bolts. I'll experiment with the chain length. I left it long on purpose.

@JPWH I have had a stoma since 2017 when my colon was removed. Mine is an illeostomy, sounds you have a colostomy. Please let me know if you have questions or want advice. You can contact me by PM if you want and I'll give you my number. If someone is getting on your nerves, you can always tell them you're going to crap in their gas tank and mean it. 😉

Thanks for asking. It seems that the storm sort-of split and went around us. We got some wind and rain but nothing like Asheville to the east or Maggie Valley to the west. Power went out at some time overnight but we didn't have any tree damage and the creek that runs through our property stayed in its banks so all is good.

I went and looked at a 1995 Ford GT85 with 48" deck for our church that was supposedly ready to go except for a dead battery. I tried jumping it and no spark to the plugs in the Kohler M18. The owner of the tractor told me to take it since he wanted it gone, so I loaded it up and brought it home. I picked up a new factory ignition module for it and will add the drive belts when reinstalling the engine. A local shop has it doing the work and checking it over. The tractor has 777 hours and except for the slight front hood and headlight damage is in good shape. Our church may still end up with it but at this time I am trying to get it going. This is made by Shibaura for New Holland and supposedly a great tractor. Any tips are appreciated!

So I got this for free but know little to nothing about them. Looking it over I see no markings on it at all. I'm told it should have a rating decal and or marking on it. Without that is it pretty much useless for any business ? More for just home use now? It's built like a Sherman tank. Heavy as heck. Has adjustable venting and a place to ground it. Even has the key to lock it. 44 inches wide. 44 tall. 19 deep. I got it for free but hoping I can sell it for some lunch money. Any value on this thing? It is solid. Could use some cleaning on inside floor. Lots of spilled paint and such. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. Thanks.

Agreed KP... right next to a mid mount blade. Wished mine wasn't on a hydro but the lift is nice...

You can use a dry lube like graphite but that's it. Briggs uses lots of plastic parts... guvs, cam gears, now even carbs. Better than grinding off a ring gear I guess...

As has been said, might be the Bendix. Also could be that the bushings are shot. They tend to make a squealing/ grinding sound when they go. Swapping the Bendix is easy.

Most all 308, 310 and 312 8 speed have 1" axles. I have heard some have 1 1/8" axles but have not seen one. I know the 312's with 1100 Eaton hydro have 1 1/8" axles. The 308 and 310 has the 3 amp. charging system with AC for the lights. My 1985 312-8 also has the 3 amp charging system with AC for the lights. I have a later model 312-8 with 1" axles and 15 amp charging system, don't know the year model.

For use at a business or in any location with open flames an insurance company/OSHA will want to see a UL label with fire rating numbers. For someone putting up in a home shop you might be able to get some money for it. I grabbed a could 8-foot truck bed cabinets and leave them outside at the corner of the garage.

Anyone who doesn't have part "F" coverage in their Medicare supplement should look into it. The extra premium you pay is nothing compared to the bills that can pile up without it. I pray that your wife will make a speedy and complete recovery. Home is by far the best place for final recovery but inpatient PT for initial recovery was a wise choice.

This dog is going to be the death of me. Today on the way home from our hike he unblucked himself and hopped out of the car in the middle of the intersection on Rt 15. Fortunately all the other drivers saw it too, and the dog himself just stood there stunned while I got my vehicle stopped and ran back to get him.

Many medium and high voltage motors and generators have pre-formed coils that are made with the vacuum/pressure process. Large motors with form wound wire coils may be dipped with the vacuum pressure process.

My second best steal. $75 for a complete but not running gt 1142 work horse. Any time I need a part I just take it off the Work Horse. 418-8 needed a new clutch pulley. Just finished installing it.

Like I said the other day we put some stuff away over the weekend. My 2 rj-58’s, 753, and 603. Plus my oldest son’s all original 856. The last piece of the puzzle is Wheelhorse_kid’s 604 up top. Plus he has 2 small engines (Briggs and Stratton WMB and a Continental) up there along with my spare Kohler K90. This is the beefed up version of what I have had for years. It helps get some out of the way. It’s nice to have my garage back. I have plenty of projects I’d like to work on in there lol.

I never really thunk of that. Actually a good idea, because it doesn’t take much weight to raise the nose of a wheel horse. Now I gotta drag the welder back out…

Briggs vertical in a 246H I had ate them every couple years. Very cheap in the jungle... so cheap you had to buy in pairs. Guess they knew you were gonna go thru them... Bad part was you had to pop the flywheel to change it.

Welcome to the sickness! A B-80 is a solid machine. If the K181 isn’t enough for you, You just add a bigger engine later. That 8-speed can handle way more if you need it.

@OutdoorEnvy and the rest o' youzz folks. I have an UPDATE!! We have an 18 cu yd load of 1 1/2" crushed stone being delivered soon. I figure the Wally Digger Backhoe is a great tool for LOADING yard trailers. We need a way to UNLOAD them. So..... Back to this crane project!! I started out with chopping almost 16" off the end of the crane. Didn't need it. It also added a LOT to the leverage of the whole hitch in a serious downward twist. I'll compensate more for that with a vehicle scissor jack. I'd added a long tube frame to the trailer years ago. Forget now why. May have been because I was thinking about putting the crane on the trailer back then. May have been because I didn't want to chop the tube until I knew what I was doing with this build. Anyway, I shortened that up by over two feet. Before: After: This got the crane and trailer nose about 28" closer together. Next thing was to finish adding the lift mechanism to the crane. Here's the winch: And the lift belt holder: The whole setup: Last for today I found a piece of scrap/leftover 1/2" square edge Advantech. That's going to be bolted to the floor of the trailer. Partially for a great reduction in noise level when filling with stone. Partially for a huge difference in added strength. Next on the list is to add a piece of 3" angle iron to the front as my lifting point. That'll be bolted through the Advantech, the metal floor, the front cargo box support, and the lifting chain(s)..

@Sparky I had that frame issue with my 312-8 as well. I fixed it the same way too. However, in my case I’m thinking that the stress of the second PO being 300+ pounds cracked the frame in that same spot.

Friend of mine has welding skills (I have none), he welded up the support rails on my 414, which is my favorite mowing rig with the 42RD. Shot em with primer yesterday, will get a single coat of black today and then reassemble. Thanks @Scot 1966

One clue.. A 720p (720x1280) at 30 fps video with sound will average about 1-2 Gb per hour after compression. So final storage for this one is likely ~100-200mb. But compression takes time and a bunch of server power.

I'm sure many of you have heard someone in your life saying, "you should do this, you'd really enjoy it!" Sometimes it takes years for that to finally happen and once it does, you see that they were right! That was me with this show...My cousin Mike has been coming to this for since it's inception and tells me every year that I'd enjoy it. This year I didn't have a choice because I was picking up a 953 from @Shynon and so it was a sure thing. What a show! I couldn't believe the variety of tractors and antiques. All the popular brands were there in large quantities but so were many unique tractors like @Achto and his McLean and this Beaver... It never ceases to amaze me how simple these early tractors were and how rapidly they changed and progressed, if the company was able to stay in business. Dan's toys! Jim had a great display and seemed to have fun running around on one of his @WHX11 tractors throughout the day! Thank you Jim and the Mrs. For watching my boys a couple of different times throughout the day when they were tired of walking. They loved hanging out by you guys under your canopy tent! My boys in front of another nice row of Horses. There were lots of common tractors like this JD 140. All kinds of fun stuff in the swap area. The boys loved these old kids helmets. The rivalry continues... These are a few of my Cousin Mikes tractors. He always brings at least four down. I loved this rig! Every time I saw it, I laughed... Cool case custom built orchard tractor copy! This guy does amazing work. My dad and mom were at the Princeton Flee market in the morning(not far away) and I had been sending some pics to them of the show. They decided to come over in the afternoon. So we walked around together And this is where I had the 953 sitting. Dad saw it and was asking some questions about it. I didn't tell him that it was mine/soon to be his. He thought it was a really cool tractor and ahead of its time for a 1963 model. I can't wait to see his face when he realizes that it is his! A nice collection of New Holland tractors. Lots of Cubs too. I hooked up with some of my cub friends I've met out at the plow days as well. All in all it was a really fun day and I plan to come to this show in the future. Next year, I'll bring a few more tractors along with me and hopefully my whole family. I highly suggest you put this show on your "I should go to this one" list because I think it is only going to continue to grow...

This is always a nice show since it's 100% GT's. Lots of Wheel Horses there this year, more than double last year. Quite a few RS members there as well. Seems to be an annual pilgrimage for a few folks. Among the high lights was Dan @Achto getting best in show runner up with His Mclean! More Pics to come as the day permits. Enjoy! @PeacemakerJack on his new to him 953!
