Got her done! A 72" belt was perfect without a tensioner. There's about 1/2" adjustment available where the pillow blocks mount to the frame. I really couldn't give it a good test because the leaves are drenched. I'm glad I started with 8" but I'm sure I'll want to take it to 6" (second pic) to increase velocity and I'll experiment with 4". Based on pulley sizes at wot it should be spinning at about 1800 rpm. It moves a lot of air but it also seems to be loafing. As heavily built as this is I think I could safely get more. I'll experiment with the velocity first.

Page Garden Tractor Page Dairy and Farm Equipment manufactured items needed by the dairy industry and in 1926 launched a line of garden tractors. Like most offerings in that time, they were two wheeled walk-behind units. A 1946 magazine ad for Page’s “Streamlined Garden Tractor” boasts “20 years of experience”. The advertisement went on to extol the virtues of the tractor’s many features, it had a headlight and an equipment light for night work. It had a direct drive, worm-gear transmission that employed cut gears and ball bearings. “No cheap belts or chains.” This model was offered with a choice of 1.5, 2, 3 and 4 horse power engines. Also, a wide array of tools could be added. I have read that Page's first rear engine; riding tractor, built in 1945, was based on their Two-Wheeled tractor drive train with an added reverse gear as the rear end. Front steering and a seat for the operator were added though the individual hand operated clutches for each drive wheel were retained. Cultivators or other implements were mounted under the tractor where the operator could observe them. That first model was considered the "standard" model and was powered by the Wisconsin ABN 4 horse power engine. In 1949 Page introduced the "Master", which was an upgraded standard model. The front casting was redesigned to be heavier, it had individual wheel brakes and the biggest improvement was a hand operated clutch and differential. It was powered by a slightly larger Wisconsin AKN 6 horse power engine. This tractor caught the attention of another garden tractor manufacturer, more on that tomorrow. In 1951 Page came out with a one wheeled “Bantam” walk-behind garden tractor as mentioned in this ad. A Bantam flyer said, “Check these Features, Fingertip clutch control, Quick hitch, Enclosed all-gear transmission, Direct mounted engine, Power take-off shaft, Handle controlled stand, Pneumatic tire, Traction balanced, Briggs & Stratton 2 hp Model 6FB As is the case with so many obscure tractor brands there is no reliable information about production numbers and much of what can be found on garden tractor sites is speculation and conflicts with other postings so I am not comfortable using it.

Long time no see but I finally got the tractor restored, I'm a big chrome stack snob and have always liked the look so I put one on and wrapped it with exhaust wrap. I got the new stickers on it and all painted up, completely rewired it. the thing had been sitting in the back of the school shop sense January and I finally got around to getting it back together I don't really know what I'm gonna do when I graduate next month but maybe it will be my family heirloom or I can tote around a little trailer

Removing all the weights except the rear inner weights…in preparation for a few mowings this year. Good time to check the rear hub set screws since they are a bit tough to service with the inner weights on.

Go to Lowes and check out the prices on their mower crap. No wonder a good running horse with a deck is fetching (Or asking) more
  17. 4 points
I have seen prices were stable for a while but the last year things are a little nuts if you ask me. Tractors that have been in the weeds rusting away they are trying get big dollars for them. Different market today from what I am used to.

@WHX?? I have a RR-46 that I purchased as New Old Stock from a dealer. This dealer purchased it from another dealer that went out of business. It simply never sold at the original dealer. I was talking to a salesman at the dealer I bought it from back when they still sold the Wheel Horse Classic model. After a while I told him I collect Wheel Horses and he said come out back I have something you might be interested in. It was up on a rack on a pallet, so they got it down with a forklift. When he told me that it was NOS I was a little skeptical until he flipped it on its side. It literally looked brand new! I bought it right away! Brought it home put gas and oil in it and it started right up! I mowed for a few minutes just to see how well it worked. That was probably close to twenty years ago, and now it might have 3-4 hours on it. Very rarely I start it up and drive it around for a few minutes. One year I brought it to the Big Show but I didn’t get much interest in it. I’ve only seen one other one, ever! I’ve seen a few with a steering wheel but not the tiller style like mine. I think it’s kinda cool, like a Radio Flyer Red Wagon with a mower deck!

Noise certainly isn't a problem. I can't hear it run over the engine noise.

I've gotten into several "discussions" with longish iron stuff over the years. My father is left handed. My mother is right handed. I write with my right hand. I cast a fishing rod with my right hand and reel with my left. I shoot archery right handed. A gun however is definitely left handed. I cannot switch the two. On the rare occasion I've played softball or baseball I bat right handed, and poorly. I had to be taught that if right handed one uses the left to catch with a glove. The was... odd. I can however switch hands to use many tools. I tell you all that to tell you this: Because my ridiculous brain sometimes can't decide which hand to use I do things bassackwards. I tried holding a crowbar with my left while swinging a small sledgehammer with my right. ... while having my arms basically crossed in front of the smash area. BBT says, do we think that's a good idea?? I later learned .. no. No it was not a good idea. On the plus side I had the wherewithal to laugh at just how ... not bright... that whole move was.

Somebody here said that they had one of those 2 cycle Toro snow blowers, mostly to make noise and annoy the neighborhood. That 'leaf blower' has it all over the 2 cycle Toro in the noise making and annoying the neighbors department!

It is difficult to keep up with 20% /year inflation and realize tractors and parts I bought 5 years ago have now doubled in price.
  24. 3 points
We need to keep in mind that today's dollars are massively inflated. It doesn't matter if it is old worn tractors or brand new products, the seller needs or wants more so he can buy what he wants.

Remove the wire from your condenser to the coil/points. If you condenser has shorted out this should restore spark from the coil.
  33. 2 points
Sure sounds like you have the bases covered. Could the coil be loosing 12v power when the key is turned to start? Like bad key switch contacts. An intermittent problem somewhere? For spark testing purposes, sometimes this can be helpful for hunting down a problem With the engine rotated so the points are closed, key to run. You can manually flip the points open with a screwdriver to simulate it turning over and more easily watch for spark and test the wires as you do it.

That belt is too short to use the proper inside larger drive pulley on the PTO. Put the 97" belt on the inside pulley to run the deck at the correct RPM.

I read on here a few years ago that Wheelhorse had 23 different implements back in the late 60s. I figure a minimum of one tractor per implement is justified.

My dad has a GTX 20. Unfortunately he doesn't have a loader. It's a beast of a small tractor. It's his secondary mower & he has a 2 stage blower. Can't believe the heavy trailer loads overfilled w/firewood that tractor has moved e/ease.

The guy was driving a stolen vehicle and was wanted in respect of another £90,000 theft. The pursuit of the vehicle lasted quite a bit longer than shown, I think my buddy did an amazing job. Apparently our criminal gangs over here have now started to deliberately ram police vehicles. They pull over when the blue lights come on and then reverse into the police car several times before driving off. They have learned that modern cars either shut down after a collision or all the air bags fire leaving a car undrivable. So much for modern technology, my first Peugeot patrol car still had window winder handles and air bags were way in the future.

So I picked this up today. Yes I know you are all laughing. Let me remind you that it is indeed a Wheel Horse. I know , not very collectable. I'm sure they are not what the Ponds envisioned when they decided to build tractors. Yes I know it is not a tractor but......... isn't it cute !!! Wheel Horse 108-5 Rear engine rider. I picked it up off CL from the original owner. I have the original bill of sale, manual, and some other paperwork from over the years. Purchased new in 1986 for 1,218.73. An additional 181.65 for the bagger. It runs and drives very well. When I went to get it I drove it from his shed to my truck. I never tried to engage the mowing deck. When I got it home I noticed the deck dosnt engage. Got to be something simple. I know the PO would have told me if it had any issues. I will look at it another day. Raining today and it won't fit in garage. So bottom line is I scored an original one owner, original paint, original bill of sale, Wheel Horse. That has to make you smile even if it is a RER !! If that isn't a good score then maybe I will mention that I paid 75 dollars for it. Can't even buy a push mower for under 100. I'm happy I have a thing for RER. Had a couple in the past. I think @WHX?? has a soft spot for them as well. Anyone else oit there who PROUDLY add one to their collection ??? Dont be ashamed to admit it.

A Tecumseh that runs would make it SPECIAL. If a Tecumseh doesn't run clean the carburator, if it still won't run you can then look for another problem.

I had a 500 Special with a sweet running Techy. It ran so nice that's why it was " special "

I love them. Shoulda never sold the flying freaking A-81 and I ever come a cross a late model one like that in half way decent shape and low money it'll come home. Strip the deck off and they make excellent ranch run arounds, yard workers & mail getters. Just can't beat them for pulling a tub and pickin up sticks... so easy on easy off! I have joint custody with @Achto of your old '55 RER Mac. One of these days we'll get it running for a ride around at shows. Last pics a '67 I got from Madge. Put an offshore carb on it and run great now. I think @c-series don and @rmaynard have early restoed tubs.

I moved the snow machine to the long term shed where she can hibernate for the summer. Fixed the 312-8 internitten starting problem. By the marks on the starter, the PO blamed it on the starter. It was actually a loose seat switch connector that made it a $175 roller.
