9 pointsSo some of you may have seen the bike in another post but the finishing touch arrived today. It's finished. @Vinylguymade me a custom head badge for it. Wheel Horse Logo but swapped out the tractor tire for a bicycle tire. Looks fantastic ! While building it i kept the Wheel Horse paint scheme, I even went for a black and white seat just like the Wheel Horses from the 60s. That is the same period of the bike. I'm happy with how it came out. Other bike is a 1940 Western Flyer.

9 pointsHi all, as mentioned in another topic I visited the local harvest-show in Onstwedde again. I brought my mini International 1468 with me and got set up at around 9 in the morning. Gates opened at 10. It was a bit overcast and wet at the beginning but it turned out to be a nice and sunny day for the most part. @Pullstart requested some show pictures so here ya' go All set up, waiting for the folks to come in and say Hi. This 1/3rd scale stationary thresher is built by my dads grandpa (who has passed away) and is now owned by my dad's uncle. He tours the country with it and displays it on several shows. It actually works and my dad's grandpa used it to harvest beans. The steam tractor that powers it is not my dad's uncle's but happened to be there aswell so they thought let's see if the tractor can power the thresher. Worked flawlessly. Besides the small tresher there's always a real one setup aswell. They thresh grain and bale the straw with the attached baler. Powered by a flat belt off a vintage Hanomag tractor. Threshing machine, Dutch built out of the province of Groningen. Straw baler. The bales are manually tied and knotten. This apparatus was placed before the thresher. Not 100 percent sure what it does but it seemed it gets rid of excess chaff and other unwanted debris. Who can guess what these are and/or what they're used for? Vintage DAF truck. Dutch truck brand. This one was very nicely restored. And another one, this one obviously for military use. Note the second axle which is free rolling. This helped it conquer dunes and tranches in rough conditions. My granddad used to operate one of these. Also no big center differential on the back axles but driveshafts coming directly from the main gearbox. The shock is the rear of the vehicle. I guess they went this route for maximum ground clearance and articulation.

9 pointsOfcourse I brought my machine out. Got great comments on it again. The best reactions gotta be when kids come up to it and ask if they can sit on it and have their picture taken. A better picture of the awesome little steam tractor. It runs off of coal just like the real thing. The owner said it weighs about 1500lbs with all the fluids on board and can pull about 6000lbs! Fleamarket with live entertainment. Bit lower turn out than previous years. Waiting line for the freshly stone-oven baked bread. Max purchase is limited to two breads per person since these are so popular people tend(ed) to 'hoard' them. Last but not least, a small compilation of the event.

8 pointsBut the best part of the whole trip was this: I’m riding up the highway in Massachusetts in the right lane with cruise set at 67. My Waze nav app tells me that there is a cop up ahead in .4 of a mile. I’m in a 65 zone and on cruise control so I don’t change anything. In my side mirror I see this older lowered civic coming up faaaast in the left lane. Just as he boogies by me (like I was standing still) he spots the cop in the median and quickly darts to the right in front of me and jumps on his brakes. I hit my brakes (disengaging cruise control) so as to not rear end this punk. We roll past the cop and he doesn’t move…I’m kinda miffed at first, but then I see in my side mirror that he finally pulled out onto the highway and now he’s coming fast. The punk in the civic is doing like 2 under the speed limit but the cops knew better, they passed me and pulled him over! I was loving it!

7 pointsHad the B on driveway duty today. Still amazes me what a well used 10hp Kohler on a tractor like this can do. Several times I had the grader full of stone and it never cared. I did learn that I like a manual lift much much better for grading than a hydraulic lift. Especially a really good and easy working manual lift. Very happy with this little tractor
-
6 pointsTook a year to save up to get it all but, its done. 1998 Deere 425, upgraded to 26x12x12 cleats and 8ply fronts. Rears are loaded 80%, 72lbs of iron ballast on each rear. 3pt hitch, 190lbs of rear ballast. Hydraulic lockout installed, and a CTC loader. Moved about 4000lbs of dirt in 10 minutes..i love it.

6 pointsSo I finally got around to picking this up from my grandfather today. He's been telling me for months to come take it. He bought this in the very early 80s used and has used it very lightly himself. I've been fascinated with this tractor since i was a kid, i remember going over with my father and then we would drive the tractor to our house down the road and mow the lawn. This tractor is what got me interested in wheel horses, and this is my3rd one in the garage. I've also got a c175 with Briggs opposed 18hp twin and a 312-8 but i think this c160 is even slightly nicer built than the c175... It's been mostly parked in his garage the last 15 years or so. It started right up today and never missed a beat. the battery is from 2012 and still cranks the thing over. It's got a 42-inch rear discharge and a snowblower with wheel weights and chains. The hour meter says 187 but i don't think it's working any longer as i ran it for about 30 minutes today and it didn't move. My plans are to do maintenance on it, give it a good washing and then a wipe down with MMO to preserve it as-is Pics are at this link - C160 - Imgur

6 pointsMore puttering......couldn't work on WH tractors outside so I'm working on tractors inside. A bit of up-cycling.

6 pointsPete, here in Maine and NH that is NOT the case. Sta-bil is not price competitive to E-free gas. The newer fuel hoses should not be affected by ethanol so that's no longer a metric. The gas itself however, certainly is. I've removed carb bowls and fuel lines after as little as 4 months. Ethanol pearls in the bowl. Bad news. Bad experiences. We haven't used any ethanol laced gas in years because of these occurrences. No additives. No problems.

5 pointsMaking the Connecticut to New Hampshire run this morning for some ethanol-free fuel from the pump. Generator and tractors all need some “special gas”

5 pointsAs in the title it has been a long hard road for this one. It fought me every step of the way but I won so far. It has a belt squealing nose when I put in gear but better than it was. Does have the NOS belt on it. Been messing with that all day. Hope you enjoy the video! Some remember my first post of this one. It does not have the correct hood on it. To long. Tried the Commando hood too short so ??? IMG_0821.mov

5 pointsSeven years ago, during the rebuild of my RJ58 I had this CBR32 sickle cleaned up and ready for paint when I decided to trade it away. Today I got the sickle back, exactly as it was the day it left. Excited to get it painted and mounted back on this ‘58.

4 pointsSo how big of a chainsaw are you going to have to use to cut the roots loose when you go to work on this again Eric?
-
4 pointsThe items you asked about are threshing sticks for manual threshing of wheat etc.

4 pointsI found myself needing a puttering day. Nothing big but something to do while it's raining. I picked up a double bit ax head in a junk pile a few days ago. While cleaning it up it had Bangor Me.. stamped in it.. Turns out it is a Snow & Kneally head. Apparently around the turn of the century. I just happen to have a couple double bit handles kicking around. A little dry rubbed black paint on the head and wedge with the new handle and an edge I now have a nice handy new to me tool .

4 pointsIt's just unbelievable you guys have to make those runs for hi test when they have it at every station here.

4 pointsI finally assembled my garage "stereo". Two 12" powered monitors @ 2,000 watts each and two 12" powered subs @ 1,000 watts each. Adequate bass, so there may be an 18" sub in the works.
-
4 pointsWell it is mostly a 753.. Hydro lift for the sickle. Wobble box modified to have a more usual eccentric pitman set up. 8 speed tranny Cute don't yah think??

3 pointsI use it in my mower tractor 1989 414-8 , but the last mowing of the year she gets the good stuff. My snow tractor, 1979 c 101-8 gets the good stuff and the generator and the weedeater and the chainsaws. I have no gas troubles. Tractor gas troubles that is.
-
3 pointsI built an outdoor stand for the 220V compressor today. All scrap wood and a couple lbs of screws. Sets under one of the barn shed roofs.
-
3 pointsI have found Sta-bil crystals in carb bowls. Doesn't do diddly. I use Sea Foam once in a while. I buy the 94 octane HD, Lowes , Tractor Supply fuel for long term storage
-
3 pointsI just love seeing all the different tractors that have been made aroung the world. Thank you for taking us with you!!! The Lanz Bulldogs are something I have not seen before...WOW!!! And the 3rd size thresher...fantastic!!

3 pointsSo like I’ve mentioned before, the only way to buy it here in Connecticut is in those cans that you buy from Home Depot or a hardware store. right around $26-$29 per gallon!! Yikes! Here’s how this works out for me. I bought 30.7 gallons ($4.66per gallon) of 91 octane e-free for $143. My truck used $34 to make the whole trip. That brings the cost of a gallon up to $5.76. Still way way cheaper than anything I can buy locally. And my neighbor covers half of the fuel my truck uses since a couple of those jugs are his. @peter lena I have to disagree with you. Stabil is just a bandaid that helps the ethanol laced fuel last a couple more months. It doesn’t remove any ethanol. Some of my tractors will sit for months (my 867 was just fired up after 10 months sitting in the shed for example)…my generator is another example. I’ll gladly spend a buck a gallon more for quality fuel over bandaided fuel. Not saying I don’t use a stabil type product, but I only use it in the fuel that I use in tractors that are seeing regular use. My truck did surprisingly well on fuel. The Tundra easily beats all other 1/2 ton trucks in pretty much every category EXCEPT miles per gallon…well she managed to get 21.2 MPG! That’s a record for this truck!!

3 pointsI've run into this almost every time I reuse the cup point screws so I ordered a bag at Mcmaster and carr - black oxide grade 8 with a little blue Loctite - if a hub has to come off it gets new screws ....if the cup is rounded or mushroomed they won't hold .
-
3 pointsBrought this beauty home today. She's not feeling well. (Popped valve seat). The stable is overflowing but always welcome another one if opportunity arises. Saved this one from the scrap guy. Not happening on my watch.

3 pointsAre you going to be putting on concerts? Or really just want your neighbors to know what kind of music you like? 🤣🤣👍🏻

3 pointsThanks @Pullstart! @squonk wasn't wrong on this one Gotta say though it's about 25% my own fault, or lack of knowledge perhaps. The seller listed this as having a 3/8" thread on the tank side and 1/4" on the outlet. So the plan was to screw in a 1/4" brass fitting, shove the fuelhose on and 'bob's your uncleTurns out that's incorrect. The fuel line size is 1/4" but the threads in the outlet are (I think) 7/16-24. The plan was to find a brass fitting with the right threads and solder a copper 6mm (1/4") tube in it where I could put the fuelhose on. Turns out brass fittings are NLA and/or replaced by a metal/aluminium alloy that's impossible to solder.. or atleast I could'nt get it to stick. Since I was fed up with it leaking I opted for the simple shutoff valve. Yes the glass bowl looks better but would have been barely visible anyway.

3 pointsI've had the same experience over the years. Perhaps I should try one from Brian. Mark. This rig is looking excellent!!!

3 pointsYou all have some mighty fine looking smokers. Mine is a good deal more humble but has served me well for 29 years. It started as an economy Brinkman smoker grill. It rusted out so I had a copy made of stainless steel. Originally it was charcoal, but later I found an electric unit. Now, I can smoke or grill with charcoal or electric (with a smoke maze using pellets.) This unit goes with me whenever we go camping. Last week we smoked a slab of St. Louis style ribs, grilled some chicken thighs, grilled some rib eyes, smoked trout (see below) and for breakfast I used the smoker to bake cinnamon rolls. The picture below is before they rolls were baked. Store bought cinnamon rolls, then mixed about a cup of brown sugar and added cinnamon to taste, Spread the brown sugar and cinnamon, placed rolls and added some more brown sugar and cinnamon to the top of each roll then poured maybe 1/2 of cup sweet cream around the rolls.I forgot to take a picture the baked rolls but they were gooey and good. I have found that I can build a small fire in the campground fire pit, I can slide the smoker back and forth over the fire as needed to maintain the temperature needed. Tomorrow, I am smoking a pork butt and slab of ribs.

3 pointsTomorrow (saturday) I'll be attending the annual harvest-show again with my mini International 1468. Spent today sandblasting and painting some more parts aswell as mounting said parts. Note, the grey on the grille is just a zinc-spray base coat. My preffered supplier of paint is closed for the summer holidays so I could'nt get the actual right color for it. The exhaust 'headers' are painted with a heat resistant grey which I like better than I expected. Most of the time I tend to paint exhausts black but I opted to go this route because the original tractors also seems to have grey instead of black exhausts. May seem a bit too grey all together now but that will change once I get to laying down some red paint. Besides that I finally fixed the fuel system for good. I ditched the fancy gas shutoff because I could'nt get it to seal properly. It's an aftermarket part and seems to lack some crucial features. Lesson learned, simple is better. Looks good.. But sadly doesn't work! Simple in-line version works perfectly. Might (have to) add a filter later on but that's an easy fix.

2 pointsPick this guy up on a whim. Been wanting a 701 for awhile and found one with all the right parts. I’d planned on assembling one from pieces due to the rarity of these guys. However I found one that was mostly complete minus tires and couldn’t pass it up. Redone about 15 years ago it’s not perfect but close enough for me. Gitty up!

2 pointsTaryl put out several videos where he tested various additives both long and short term. I would suggest that anyone who is concerned about ethanol should watch those videos. I mentioned it before but members keep coming back to claim their favorite brand of snake oil is the best. While Taryls testing is not quite scientific, it is way more than anyone else did. To save you some time, the tests showed that additives to treat ethanol were a waste for the most part. Personally I do use Stabil in gasoline that may be stored for some time, chainsaw mix is one example. The purpose of using Stabil is to reduce the oxidation of the fuel, look it up.

2 pointsFinalized the Mini Gimbal for the Thermalcopter. Shure gimbals can be purchased, but the most weight more than 100 gramms. This reduces my Airtime too much. i don‘t need a 3 Axis, because the Copter flies relatively stable also on a gently Breeze. So i decided to built my own 2 Axis gimbaL where my planned goal was to built one that must be lighter than 80 gramms. That‘s definitely a challenge. So i started several calculations and try 2 different Designs second Design Winns. to compare the size, on the left is an Makita Accu for the small DF330 Accudrill so i started to built one as light as possible ( for the Moment) each motor weights 19,4 gramms the Electronic weight 8,7 gramms sensor weight 0,9 gramms Wires weights 7 gramms that‘s a total of 55,4 gramms. all other weight is by the Plasticmounts.. and here the final Result... The scale told me i just have 7,5 gramms in my Construction needed. boooom - this weight surprises me also myself.

2 pointsI did the rub a few hours ago, and in about 2 the butts go on. I just prepped the smoker. I vacuumed the ashes out, scraped the drippin pan and dumped the catch can in the weeds. I’ve got some Jack Daniels Old No. 7 pellets waiting to fill the hopper for this smoke! I’ve mentioned quite a bit in the Recipes thread, but this Trade East brand Classic BBQ Rub I found is amazing. It’s at the local Gordon Foods Service store and I think it’s their house brand. The sugar granules are HUGE and it is so awesome! I was saddened they don’t have lard for the injection/glaze any more. What’s the world coming to, when you can’t buy lard in a store?
