11 pointsI sold my c series Black Hood to my nephew last summer. He sold his surburban house in a subdivision last fall and needed something robust for his prepper lifestyle building lot. He is presently in a small town until he can get his barndomimium going at the farm. WE had a bunch of rain and all his town neighbors were creeping along barely getting through the long grass. The deck I gave him had shredder blades with the v-cut grass lifters in the rear edge and he just walked right through the stuff. Shiny paint it aint, but it seems to give a good accounting of itself. Neighbors be likeand some of them the c-141 Kohler engine performance vs those new Briggs and Scrapem just leads to mower envy.

7 pointsGetting this RJ ready for the Big Show in June! This is one of three RJ’s I I will be bringing. This RJ was owned by a guy I would see at Florida Flywheelers every year. Apparently, he had a problem finding a magneto for a 4 HP Kohler motor (original went under the flywheel). He placed a 12 volt coil and a battery on it . This thing starts first pull almost every time. I placed the decals on yesterday and will change the gas line today. It is a good runner and the and the transmission shifts smooth. I enjoy riding this RJ. Bringing my LTD-24. Wheel Horse dump cart also!

5 pointsIt’s just good to know it was truly a school bus seat. Second to the back seat, one of the elite cool kids butt pads. It’s where pre-teens get to practice their cuss words, their spit wad accuracy and maybe even a kiss or a feel!

4 pointsHello everyone. First time poster here... Currently building a C-160 for my youngest son to pull and am considering front wheel/tire combos. Does anyone have a photo of 16x6.50-8 Vredstein V61's mounted up on a factory C-160 front wheel they are willing to share? They recommend a 5.38" wide rim, and not sure if mine are that wide. The turf tires on the original wheels seem to be squeezed in more than I'd like a tire to be. Also, does anyone know the factory rim width for the C-160, I haven't dismounted the tires on mine to measure (I would guess 4.5-5")? I know the spindles are around 4" long or a touch over, as I tried wider set of wheels on the front with about a 3" hub length, but was going to have to make a bushing/spacer to take up the room. I decided not to go that route, and haven't been able to find a 5.38-7" wide rim that also has a wide enough hub for the 160's spindles. I attached a picture of the factory wheel and tire as well as a picture of the tractor with the white wheels that would need spacers so you could see what I am dealing with. Thanks!!

4 pointsBet young wipper snappers dont have an idea what a three on a tree is. Hope to run one sometime again before I croak. Choice Van What's that Cheap Trick song? She's nice she's tight she's given me the go...
-
4 pointsStill no fawns. What's this young guy up to? Some of you may remember this little piebald buck. He was a victim of a poacher in 2009. After the case was settled, I acquired the deer and did the full mount. I am preparing his story with pictures and will be returning him to the state park where he was born. He will be on display in the visitor center.

4 pointsMike, that's a 1965 Ford F-100. We named it " Ol Blue '. This trustworthy workhorse has been in the family for 26 years. It has a 240 cubic inch straight 6 engine, and a three speed transmission ( three on the tree ). I hope you like my Ferd

4 pointsStarted cleaning out the magic parts shed today. Missus been all over me like a dirty diaper to finish the outside steel. What a freaking disaster. Anyone needs a hydro rear end come get. Look what I found Randy @rjg854. My bad Wished you would at least let us pay you for 🚢! Pickett steam club thanks you. Gave my back a rest and inventoried SS hardware for this little project.

4 pointsGot the head and carburetor gaskets delivered today for the free 310-8. Hopefully it will be running soon. If it's a good runner I might consider painting the hood and seat pan / rear fenders.
-
4 pointsThat seat won't have to worry about seeing that any more.
-
4 pointsYour gasket set should have various thickness gaskets, if there isn't a .005 you could stack a .002 and a .003 .

3 pointsMost of that matrix is high enough that it stays in place. Some of it will be coming down today, as I will be putting the spray gun away for the rest of the summer. "Hopefully " I like to paint in cooler weather when there are no bugs to deal with.

3 pointsThat drives the rear wheels. The Lamberts are like that and have a manual collar for free roll if you want to disconnect drive. This is closer pic of the two sides of the drive pully system. As you can see the Lambert 600 has hydraulic clutch

3 pointsThe current carb is an older genuine Walbro carburetor...just not the carb that belongs on this particular tractor. It does not appear to be junk aftermarket. See photo...
-
3 pointsThat could solve the choke cable routing issue but you are sill stuck with a Junk Chinese carburetor. The ones that say they will fit 10 HP to 16 HP won't work well on anything. The throat size for 10 to 12 HP is # 26 and the throat size for 14 to 16 HP is # 30. The jets for the # 26 are smaller than the # 30 and the junk you get from China is a mix of whatever was on the shelf at the time and will never operate properly.
-
3 pointsDirection for the travel of the cable can also be changed by adding a simple lever between the connection Either straight or with a 90 deg

3 pointsI bought this Hustler Fastrak in April 2022. The salesman told me to blow the dirt and stuff off it every time after I mow, and DO NOT ever wash it. I listened and have followed his advice. So far no problems.

3 pointsMany replacement carburetors come with the choke lever set up for a top cable. Do not buy a cheap Chinese Carb that says it fits 10 to 16 HP engines, they are junk. I Save Tractors sells good quality parts and the carb includes two choke shafts, one for top mount and one for lower mount cables. Call them and they may put the correrct one in for you so you don't have to mess with it. https://isavetractors.com/carburetor-30-for-kohler-k321-k341-k361-m14-and-m16/

3 pointsSome manure spreaders come with the tires mounted backwards since the ground drives the equipment instead of the pulling. I had to explain that to a farmer wannbe when he made fun of the setup.

2 pointsToday I made a little more progress with the Cub deck… my grass is really getting tall. I should have done this over the winter… Look at the condition of the spindle housings. The aluminum is not corroded like you see so often on our Wheel Horse decks. It has to have everything to do with the spindle housings being on the topside of the deck. Got the spindles, blades, deck belt, belt guards, and deflector shield back on. Put the Red and Tacky grease in the spindles. Took the swing arm for the tensioner pulleys apart, cleaned, and greased the zerk with Red and Tacky also. I still need to paint the two skid plates that bolt along the front of the deck… IMG_2402.mov

2 pointsWith the what I consider a huge tolerance that the manual gives you. I think you should be able to fall with in specs with the .010" shims alone. I just built a K241, used all 3 of the shims that I received with my gasket kit. Ended up at .011" end play. Called it good.
-
2 pointsHaven’t measured yet. Doing some more maintenance before putting back together. I just want to be prepared if I do need it. I may need, I may not. I understand completely the process of re-installing bearing plate and checking end play. I guess I should’ve stated that in first post. I’m following the Kohler manual to a T.

2 pointsUh oh... Trail cam at Eb's place about 10 minutes ago... Should we be afraid?
-
2 pointsThanks for all the help and the scolding. Solenoid for a 1976 Ford 150 fixed it.
-
2 pointsThe bearing plate shims are the same shape as the gasket for the bearing plate. Basically you space the aluminum bearing plate out to get your crank shaft end play.

2 pointsPicked up this drill powered winch last year to help me do things since my back is a wreck. It has been pretty good, I use it to move things around and put tractors on the trailer that aren't running. Here is a short video of it pulling my latest find up on the trailer.
-
2 pointsDoes not look like there is a nut used. Bolt probably threads into the aluminum oil pan.
-
2 pointsI was able to remove the old transmission filter which was actual an Kohler engine filter! Installed the correct filter and this time i refilled the trans with10W40 instead. Transmission is operating much better with the correct filter and the heavier oil. Now to use the mower for a while and see how well it operates. Thanks for all the info and help.

2 pointsRick this was the top of the line back in the day. I have had three and have one know. Great tractor. If you have never owned a start/gen tractor you will love the start up.I truly enjoy mine. Enjoy the ride. This the current one I have.
-
2 pointsGood luck Randy! I too checked it out and was quite impressed with it! Good thing I’m out of tractor room!
-
2 pointsThe 1257 is definitely my favorite. It’s the long hood, 12hp Kohler motor. It is a one year only as they were built in 1967. There are many pics and info on here of them. Here’s a pic of mine, has come a long way throughout the years. Gotta keep ‘‘em going.

2 pointsBetting you know that the fronts are on backwards @BrianKoch Just trying to be different or lack of 4WD doesn't matter!?!? Still nice looking rig... Did a two seater today thank you @Pullstart & took it for a love ❤️ ride. Maybe a cocktail cruise on it tonite to get her in the mood. It was enny minny mighty moe on which tractor to put it on. This one just runs ssssooo sweet. Solid mounts on order now she's got a purpose. Was going to put a deck on her ...easier to sell... and send her down the road but not no more. Had to butch the legs off which I didn't want to do. Figured I could make it into a cool shop love sofa for the off season. Dibs on another one if yer heavy on them. Well then I discovered this Kev... gum underneath and repaired corner... hey I want a refundIf these seats could talk...

2 pointsThe 270-H is an interesting unit since it has a small hydraulic pump and deck lift separate from the transaxle. Seconding a visit to the checklist. Oil, electrics, belts, general lubrication, etc. Sooooo tempting to say, “well, it's running, lets go mow” and “we’ll check it over later." As @ri702bill pointed out, a lot depends on how it got put away and stored. It'd be a shame for a great vintage unit to incur damage or excess wear that could have been avoided.
