8 pointsI just received this from Grey at Wheel Horse 3D today. I gave him the idea and he ran with it. I’m very impressed with the final product. Part of the design I wanted incorporated earth magnets inside the ornament. I wanted to prevent drilling holes in the hood. Preliminary fit is very good. Just a little bit of careful filing on the bottom side to fit perfectly is all that’s needed. The ornament sticks to the hood very strong. This is all I can show about the project for now. It progressing but as always never as fast as I’d like. Stay tuned. Gitty Up! Thanks again Grey, you da man!

5 pointsSome manure spreaders come with the tires mounted backwards since the ground drives the equipment instead of the pulling. I had to explain that to a farmer wannbe when he made fun of the setup.

4 pointsPicked up this drill powered winch last year to help me do things since my back is a wreck. It has been pretty good, I use it to move things around and put tractors on the trailer that aren't running. Here is a short video of it pulling my latest find up on the trailer.

4 pointsPicked up this C-81 last night, the person I bought it from said it was a 78. It is in pretty nice shape but not running. I was mainly looking for a deck, but for $200, they threw the tractor in for free! Person said it needs a fuel pump and spark plug, but they I don't think they knew what they were doing. The coil is cracked and it has a monster electric fuel pump on it. I will put it all back like it was and see if it will run then. I am going to throw the deck on my 310 for now. My house and my shop are 8 miles apart, so I wanted something to mow with, I can get through my gate in the backyard. Is this deck have sealed bearings? I can't find zerks anywhere. The deck looks fantastic and maybe came from something newer, It looks for like the red on my deck that came with the 310. PTO doesn't seem to have much wear on the deck pulley at all. OH.......The coolest thing about it, is I know the guy that sold this new, he is a member of the tractor club I belong too!!!!

4 pointsJust got finished wiping the deck down with PB Blaster and will tackle that this week. I just picked it up last night, but itching to get it going. The deck looks very nice, it couldn't have been used too much.

4 pointsI have the same tractor but a 6 speed 1267. What's nice about them it's the first year for a long frame big block limited slip trans model. I upgraded mine with front and mid tach o matics to run the more common attachments and added a newer version of a K321 but reused the starter gen set up.

4 pointsHey all! Been neglecting the forum lately (Still remodeling my house, getting married, have a baby on the way, etc etc.) but mowing season always brings me around. The last local salvage yard sold recently and they're clearing out before the new overs take over. I've bought multiple vehicles and parts from this place for years, and I've always wanted this old Sears that was buried back in a corner. I'd inquired a few times about it and the old man that owned the place always said he planned to get it out and use it. His son has been running the place for the last year or so, and I saw the tractor out of its hole and out by the front fence. I stopped in and looked at it and snagged it for $55. Story was it started knocking and they shut it down. Has a horizontal 18hp Briggs twin. Came with a vertical shaft engine for parts. I got it home, poured some gas in the tank and cranked it over.. and it cranked much too fast. A quick finger over the spark plug hole confirmed that one rod had let go, so I tore it down. I don't have any internal pictures right now, but it threw a rod, broke the cam, and the governor shaft boss. Luckily, the vertical shaft engine has the same diameter crank output shaft, though it is longer. I can work with that and modify a pulley to sit in the right place for the mower drive. I swapped the dippers onto the vertical shaft engine, as well as the oil pan and side cover before I realized that I needed to drill the boss for the oil dip stick. I have that drilled now and need to verify that I caught all of the metal shavings (I didn't pull it apart to drill it but I put grease on the bit and over the hole and caught most all of it) before putting the pan back on again. After that, I'll be down to swapping intake and carb, muffler, exhaust shields, etc. ` It has good ag tires on the back with 55LB wheel wheights, as well as brand new (20 year old) front tires. Should make a good mowing rig! I have a disc from my Sears SS14 (project for another day) which has a manual 3 point, but I also have an electric 3 point from my Sears GT19.9 that I'll probably swap onto it. If you study the photo, someone has bent and added (quite well I might add) a piece of 3/4" solid bar to the front perimeter of the deck for reinforcement!

3 pointsI have a 520-H wheel horse for sale, it is a 1991 or 92 model with an 42 inch rear discharge deck and has approximate 651 hrs, because when I brought it the hour meter was not working tdue to some loose wires which have now been repaired. It has new rear tires and runs good except for one problem, after runing for about15 minutes it will shut down when restarted after about a few seconds it will run until I finish mowing which is about an hour. After getting my 310-8 running I no longer need 3 tractors and need to clean out the garage. Selling for $600 or a reasonable price.

3 pointsWent to regular work, then after that I went to work on putting the Cub deck back together. Sanded some grass grunge off of a few more parts and painted them, put the belt tensioner assembly back on the deck… cleaned the spindle housings… Maybe I’m going a little overboard with this blade sharpening and grease job… I don’t want the blades of grass to have to see an ugly deck underside before their heads get chopped off…

3 pointsNo regrets here but I wasn’t aiming for original either. The low range is quite handy for trailer loading/unloading and maneuvering. In a perfect world, I’d enjoy having a a gear between 2nd and 3d--that’d be the most efficient for my 36” mower deck--2nd does well but it’s a bit pokey and 3rd is just a bit too fast for a quality cut (and control at the corners ). I’ve thought of tweaking the drive pulleys but haven’t pulled the trigger on that. The transaxle pulley is uncommon and smaller one (3.5”?) might be hard to come by. It has a very narrow hub and it’s setscrew is in the “groove”. The K181 is pretty narrow so the driveline is very close in--clearance between the transaxle body and pulley is less than ¼ inch. I traded in the 3-speed when I got the 6-speed at AtoZ (for peace of mind, I paid their very fair price to open and check out the transaxle and redo the seals and gasket). The only mod to my tractor to accommodate it was the extra hole in the bottom of the tunnel for the hi-low shifter. (I’d already repaired/reinforced the F-plate). A couple days ago i drove up a steep-ish pitch of rain-softened soil and had both rear tires leave dig marks but keep on pushing. LSD does help!

3 pointsBetting you know that the fronts are on backwards @BrianKoch Just trying to be different or lack of 4WD doesn't matter!?!? Still nice looking rig... Did a two seater today thank you @Pullstart & took it for a love ❤️ ride. Maybe a cocktail cruise on it tonite to get her in the mood. It was enny minny mighty moe on which tractor to put it on. This one just runs ssssooo sweet. Solid mounts on order now she's got a purpose. Was going to put a deck on her ...easier to sell... and send her down the road but not no more. Had to butch the legs off which I didn't want to do. Figured I could make it into a cool shop love sofa for the off season. Dibs on another one if yer heavy on them. Well then I discovered this Kev... gum underneath and repaired corner... hey I want a refundIf these seats could talk...

2 pointsThe 1257 is definitely my favorite. It’s the long hood, 12hp Kohler motor. It is a one year only as they were built in 1967. There are many pics and info on here of them. Here’s a pic of mine, has come a long way throughout the years. Gotta keep ‘‘em going.

2 pointsMany replacement carburetors come with the choke lever set up for a top cable. Do not buy a cheap Chinese Carb that says it fits 10 to 16 HP engines, they are junk. I Save Tractors sells good quality parts and the carb includes two choke shafts, one for top mount and one for lower mount cables. Call them and they may put the correrct one in for you so you don't have to mess with it. https://isavetractors.com/carburetor-30-for-kohler-k321-k341-k361-m14-and-m16/

2 pointsI see that you have had several posts about a 1054 over the past couple of months. Rather than having us open each post would you please give us a brief synopsis of the repairs you have attempted and what the results were. We are sort of chasing down rabit holes trying to find the right one otherwise. Lots of ignition switches out there to choose from but you need to select the correct one. If you plan to use a newer 103-990 ignition switch and a solenoid with your Starter/Generator this wiring diagram will help.

2 pointsI gave this tractor a good looking over at the 2022 Big Show and was very impressed with the build. Too bad I am downsizing because that should be the prized centerpiece of any collection.
-
2 pointsI know what you mean on that chute. I’m in the same boat as you with the 42” deck being too wide for the gate to the woods behind my house. I mow an area there but have to take the deck on and off to get through the gate. Not terrible but annoying. Can’t wait to find a smaller deck.
-
2 pointsI’m planning on using the original trans for now. It seems to be in good working order. Replace the outer seals and run it. Trying to keep this thing mostly original looking except a few small details I’ll reveal later. 😉
-
2 pointsI have a 42 in deck for my 310, but they have a huge metal chute on the right side and will not go through a 48" gate. The 36" deck should be perfect for my small yard.Or maybe its a 37, either way it will work for my needs. Randy

2 points@ Randy Littrell, let me at that thing ! get some oil on that paint , how do those deck spindles sound ? those 36" decks love a refresh , guy that bought mine could not believe how quiet it was , hated to see it go . new bearings , re grease lucas hd green , glad you got it , pete

2 pointsWe have 6. Up to 2 may be kept through the winter, if we have a male and female to mate and incubate eggs. Otherwise, it’ll be a seasonal thing for the geese. The rest will end up in the smoker

2 pointsI’m glad to have set the live trap outside the new porch last night. This was inside the 6’ fence, and vicious! Unfortunately he got a splitting headache mid-morning.

2 pointsI know that a lot of you guys use various additives in your fuel to counter the effects of ethanol. Many of you know that I won't use any of those things. I have a Honda lawnmower that is now going on 25 year old. The salesman told me that if I ever had to pull the recoil rope more than twice, there was something wrong. This has only happened once in all those years and it was the time that I had added Sta-Bil to my gas in the fall before mowing for the last time. Someone had told me that if I didn't, ethanol gas would kill my carburetor. Well, upon removing the bowl, the contents was like amber jello. After flushing the fuel system and putting in fresh gas, it started immediately and has continued until this day. I will not use Sta-Bil, nor will I use Seafoam (just pull up the SDS on Seafoam and see what's in it). I do however use non-ethanol gas now. I know this is a bit off the track for this thread, but I just have to rant once in awhile.

2 pointsI'm thinking that barring unforeseen craziness like previous owner modifications, yes it was on a c-81 it should hold up directly to your c-160. The desire to try out the lift was the only reason I got a hydro. Took me a bit to get used to the controls because all our other tractors are manuals. Nowadays I would highly recommend it for plowing.

2 pointsThe Wheel Big Horse is for sale. I'm in the process of moving to northern Michigan and I'm not going to have room to keep this. Still runs great and still hasn't been mowed with! I love this thing and my wife doesn't want me to sell it but I think it needs to go to a better home. If you're interested send me a PM.

2 pointsHypothetically since I don't have one; If they were in my NOS A-60 I would have gotten the acid and brought the 47 year old batteries to life. Considering the fact that they don't take up a lot of space and $ 45 is not a life altering amount of money I would suggest you keep them.

2 pointsI’m not familiar with that newer engine. But have you checked your getting fuel flow throughout the system? start at the bottom of the fuel tank, there is a screen in the shutoff valve. So remove hose and see if your getting flow out of tank Then move down fuel hose to each device and check for fuel flow.
