12 pointsSo last fall I put a want ad for an . Either an E-141 or an A-60. Crickets... Then I get a lead, text this guy in Minnesota, who I don't know and is not on RS... He says ya I have a NOS A-60, but it's in Iowa. Ok I says, can you get it to Minnesota and then we'll see what happens... Yup... couple months go by... it's in Minnesota. Now what? So i put out some feelers to some Wisconsin and Minnesota boys - @WHX??, @Achto, @wheelhorseman, @Shynon, @prondzy as well as my Michigan buddy @Pullstart who is well known for short jaunts to pick up wayward 's... Thank you gents. Would not have happened without your help!!! Long story short, achto and whxx pick it up in a late season blizzard (covered trailer thank you!) on the way back from their own wrangling mission. So now it's in whxx's shed, which is a sketchy place to be if your a young filly far away from home... But all is well, as whxx begins lookin it over he notices flat tire, missing ignition coupler, etc. and proceeds to fix said items!!! Now I'm waiting on pullstart to go west to North Dakota to pick up a herd he bought last fall. Snug in her temporary home, A-60 waits... Then, long winter over, Mrs Pullstart insists, i am told, that she spend Mother's Day in Norman on the way to North Dakota to get some more Wheel Horses... Couple days later and voila... A-60 is home!!! The first pick up by an unknown assailant from Wisconsin. Note the cheese curd stains on the jacket... The second pick up (note the signature shorts and safety boots): The third and final pick up: And home: Done so far: Cleaned up. lubed 3 new deep cycle batteries from Costco. Saving the WH branded, never seen acid still in shrink wrap, for garage decorations. New spring for clutch Lubed chain Penetrol on all sheet metal. 2 coats. And she floats!!! More to come as I fine tune things and look over belts etc. Here's some pics and a video of first known ride on this tub in 47 years... IMG_2256.mov

11 pointsPicked up a very nice 1-owner original 854 w/ deck & blade. Also had my riding partners which require 3 hamburgers/each 🍔 for their security services. 🐾👮♂️

10 pointsHi from NY. I found a running 314-A with newer cutting deck on Marketplace for free! An older woman just wanted it gone and I happened to see her ad 5 minutes after she posted it. It came with a cart as well. The battery was dead, started with a jump but would the engine would only run on choke. The engine appears to run strong and no smoke to speak of. I'm charging the battery to see if it will hold a charge (doubtful) and I've pulled and cleaned the carb. Tires are dry rotted and needed air - I'll know if they are holding air tomorrow. Overall, the tractor is clean. Paint is chipping in places and it needs a good cleaning. As I dig into this project, I'm sure I'll be reaching out to you experts for advice. There does not seem to be a whole lot of information on this particular model. The woman suggested it was a 1983 model but from what I've read on the web, it is likely 1986. I see much more information for the 314-H and 314-8. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce my tractor to the forum. Looking forward to any advice as I get started. Pictures attached. Thanks, Jeff

10 pointsBig thanks to 19richie66. I received the cup and it’s super awesome. I love it. Now for refreshing beverage

7 pointsExtra pickles? When we take our dogs to the vet they get to go to the McDonald's down the street. We order plain burgers. One time they screwed up and put pickles on it and lets just say tuba music was played all night!.

6 pointsJust did it today on my new NOS A-60. Did it for years on our fiberglass boats. The stuff works.

5 pointsI wouldn't use oil on the paint. It ends up on you and attracts dust like a magnet. Then when you try to get the dust off you got a mess. You spend time to clean the grunge then put more grunge on. I would put a coat or 2 of Penetrol. It dries smooth and clear. Then dust and dirt just wipes off.

5 pointsTHAT's why the are called a ZERO Turn - blow it off, twist the key and get ZERO TURNs out of the starter !!!!
-
5 pointsSounds fine to me! 80/90 has been around a long time, like . The key is, you checked it and topped it off!
-
5 pointsSince today was a rainy day here in CT so decided to stay under cover and put the rototiler on the C-145 today. With a little help from grandpa it’s on! checked gear oil, greased it up, and all ready for the garden!! What kind of oil do you guys put in the gearbox in the rototiller?? I just put some 80w90 gear oil.

5 points1986 Wheel Horse 310-8 Model # 21-10K803 Kohler K241S Mower deck model #05-42MS05 complete refurbish about 4 years ago, 2 new front tires decent shape, runs and mows call and leave message

4 pointsPicked up a 416-8 carcass. I just wanted the engine but he wanted the whole thing gone. Who am I to argue?
-
4 pointsHad mine for 9 years now, other than basic maintenance no problems, 385h. The only reason I would cut my grass with one of my Wheel Horses now is if the Z wasn't running. Most box store Z turns are like their riding mowers, you get what you pay for. If you buy a quality one from a dealer, like Gravely, Hustler, Scag, Exmark etc. you'll get a well made sweet grass grass cutting machine. Like most things even some of these can have their problems think 520's .

4 pointsYou are doing a wonderful thing there ED. Got one question though; who enjoys this more, you or the little fishermen?
-
4 pointsLost a shallow 18mm 3/8 Dr. impact socket a couple of weeks ago. It was stuck on a bolt so I put the bolt in a vise and knocked it loose. Socket hit the floor and vanished. I may have to fall down to get a good look under the work bench.

3 pointsSo after years of no "round hoods" in my region I scored a survivor 704 that will need a lot of work. Just before Christmas I landed an "original" unmolested 701 complete with all correct belt guards. Seller said it had been a worker in his family as long as he could remember but spent the last 10 years in a storage building. While I have a tremendous respect and awe for the restorations I see folks on here do....what I want is a "preservation" on the 701. The patina is so nice I just want to keep the tractor in as original condition as possible. I have a few questions for the experts. 1. I have found taking a dab of 3M rubbing compound and very damp rag helps do the deep clean after the first cleaning. While it removes hardly any paint I find it cleans the grunge, actually brings back a bit of a shine and allows the paint to absorb the aerosol oil treatment. Anybody have comments pro or con? 2. There are some bolts that will have to be replaced. Is over the counter bolts an issue or do I need to track down OEM bolts? 3. I have a few parts (primarily the tool box and seat support that were pretty rusted. I have cleaned up the rust and they are solid underneath but what should I do to restore? New paint?...clear coat over the metal?....ideas? Pictures are of the 3M rub on one side of the fender, Gen guard belt after rub down and oil treatment and last 2 are the badly rusted parts. All suggestions appreciated!

3 pointsGot the round hoods out for a group photo. Took them for a spin let them warm up and charge.

3 pointsFinished cleaning the underside of the Cub deck, prepped for the POR-15… I achieved the white powdery look on the metal, so I went for it. Now to go see what my neighbor Grady is doing…

3 pointsQuick update: sorry for the silence but not much progress has been made until the past 2 days as i have been very busy the past 3 weeks but yesterday i got the carburetor rebuilt and today got it running very good. Tomorrow i plan to post update pictures and a video of it running.

3 pointsI dunno about that there's 4 fords here ones just well hidden and 5 wheel horses but the 520 has to hang out here because that's the only place it fits
-
3 pointsWooHoo , just got a call. The blade engagement switch was on preventing it from starting. He must have bumped it while blowing off the mower. All is well.

3 pointsThat was a white lab coat until Jim stopped at a local Greasy Spoon! And what's up with the stain in the shorts or was that a really long trip?

3 pointsI also didn't like the extremely short throw from idle to full on my 854. I couldn't find a combination that really helped so I did this. Right or wrong it works.

3 pointsUpdate on the new Amish tobacco grower. Looks like he may also be raising buggy horses. When he bought this 65 acres for over a Million, I wondered, as over half of it is too steep to work horses. I see that will be horse pasture.

3 pointsI wish I had know about this calculation last month when I brought home a 396 Chevy engine for a future project that I'm collecting parts for. The engine is in a wooden crate, sitting on plywood, sitting on two dolly's. It is safe but it does have a slight "Gangster Lean" to it LOL
-
3 pointsIf you don't know much about wheel horses, you will soon discover what an awesome machine you have. The K321 is almost as smooth as its 12 horsepower little brother, and almost as powerful as its 16 horsepower big brother. Its a good combination for mowing with that 48 inch mowing deck. Give the deck spindles a couple shots of grease each time before mowing, and keep the deck clean underneath. The deck and attachmatic is much newer that the tractor. Another plus of the wheel horse. Parts and attachments are easily interchangeable over the span of multiple years. How many hours are showing on the meter?
-
3 points314-A is a 1985 model 21-14KE01 Some info in no particular order https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?q=314-a&quick=1&type=downloads_file
-
3 pointsI know there's no tractor in this but I can't say how impressed I am with the 60" deck I don't think I could go back to a 48" if I had to! My only complaints are why I didn't do this sooner and how big of a pain it is to slide under the tractor at time lol
-
3 pointsLong as the cover is off I clean the contacts up with an ignition file, lint free rag and contact cleaner.
-
3 pointsSome of the lunkers are longer than the kids are tall. I'll try to get a vid tomorrow.
-
2 pointsNo idea - I've never seen a D hood in person. Wouldn't surprise me though given the Pond's legendary frugality. Here's a couple more pics of just the hood.
-
2 pointsI think it turned out pretty cool. I’ll pick up some belts next week and see if it can move on its own.
-
2 pointsCommon theme with the Zero's. I was in a store that sells them yesterday and a guy was in asking about the very same problem. Guy at the counter said there was one in the shop and another in line with no starts. Micro switches are flimsy and they don't like water and dirt. Zero's are either a no start or sunk up to the frame in a wet spot. Saw one buried this morning in a yard.
-
2 pointsGreat work on the restoration. Can't resist telling my Allis Chalmers story...growing up on a working farm in Iowa I began driving tractors at a very early age. One of the first jobs I had other than driving my grandpa's Jubilee was on our C Allis Chalmers. It would be to pull the rake in the hay field to make the rows for my dad to follow up with the baler. One day I was finishing up the raking for the next days baling with Dad, hired man and brother doing the milking. I was left alone to bring the "rig" back in from the field. Was probably about 10 or 12 years old. Now the rakes back then were "offset" so bringing it across the pond dike, through the gate and along the chicken coop was tricky. I was so focused on looking behind so I didn't hit the gate with the end of the rake that I didn't realize I had gotten too close to the chicken coop. As the tractor rubbed against the coop I panicked and forgot how to stop the tractor...cleared the end of the coop with big black circles all along the side of the coop from the back tires! No damage other than the black marks, corner trim on the coop and my ego. Those marks stayed on the coop for years!
-
2 pointsThanks for the warm welcome! The battery did not take a charge so I'll get a new one later today. Pushing this beast around isn't easy. Is it correct that the transmission needs to be pushed all the way into "forward" to get it to roll. This is the only way it will disengage. The wheels seem to be holding air so that's good. The carb is cleaned and reinstalled. There's 898 hours on the meter. It's missing a couple of knobs - throttle and parking brake. Is a C-17 battery appropriate? That's what was in it. Thanks all! Great forum! Jeff

2 points@Aubreysheppard I split out your question into its own topic so it would get more attention. I would start with the basics .. spark plug replacement, points and how they’re set. Then carburetor adjustment or a full rebuild or cleaning.
-
2 pointsIf you were to build a mini-beep out of AdvanTech 4x8 sheets of engineered subflooring and Simpson Strong Tie fasteners, it would probably be darn near indestructible. You'd probably need a 20 horsepower engine to make up the difference in the extra weight.
-
2 pointsYou found a good one at the best price possible. The carb clean should solve the running on choke only.
-
2 pointsI don't remember but Dan might be right. Play with it like Don said. Just make sure the R's are up and you monitor it over several minutes. 1055 custom has a somewhat accurate digital gauge which jives with the DMMs I have. I set on the 12.5 volt which doesn't seem to cook batteries & runs up to 13.5 once things get hot. If you have the more expensive automotive post type battery in your 1067 you want that one to last. Good reminder to check mine again since most are SG.

2 pointsHow long did it take your better half to build that wall ?
