9 pointsMike, a heavy duty zip tie like that would cost at least a Nickle, multiply that be the million or so of those throw-away mowers and you are talking about the difference of the bean-counters being able to have a Golf Outing rather than a lunch meeting at the company cafeteria! Where are your priorities Mike? Safety always takes second place over important things.

8 pointsIt is a micro-pub in a shed, essentially. My shed is full of pub memorabilia, beer, and comfy chairs. Sort of a strange British eccentric thing to do We have a competition called "Shed of the Year" where people compete for the most interesting shed, and pub sheds is a catagory.

8 pointsFantastic job, the prate piece of eight is an inspiration to put a steering wheel cap on my GT-14 but the price seemed to be out of my budget.
-
8 pointsUm ahhh that tractor is not a mower... I think you are going to find a implement for it to justify said cupholders... I can't believe you are talking cupholders without consulting the master... @stevasaurus
-
7 pointsWait a minute. Are you guys talking about drinking beer? I thought this was about "hydration".
-
7 pointsKeep the $200 in yer wallet and continue looking for a proper Wheel Horse garden tractor. The 246 is just a lawn mower with bigger wheels. And the one you saw sounds like it’ll quickly turn into a money pit with no chance of any return on your investment.

7 pointsI think it's time to reseal the tiller drive axles. Hopefully it will dry out later in the week so I can put it to good use!

6 pointsStarting with a non- Wheel Horse part, but I don't want to cut up a WH deck. It will mount on a WH when I'm finished though. About a month ago, I lost my dad. The very same day my mom went into ICU at Duke, and 24 hours later we almost lost her. She's fine now and back home, but for about 3 weeks I have done nothing but run all over the state- more than 100 miles in opposite directions from home. Needless to say I fell way behind on my groundskeeping, normally having to mow at a minimum every five days here and sometimes twice a week. We have mutant grass, and much more rain than usual this spring. So I fell behind particularly on the back pasture. The grass is thigh deep, and nothing I have will cut it. The grass just lays down and it takes about 3 passes to cut it. That's if I creep along so slow that you can't cut the pasture in a while day. And of course I don't have a bush hog... Yet. I'm gonna build a carrier up front similar to the factory deck carrier, and hang this Ford deck on it- with some modifications. I bought flat, no lift blades, and I'm gonna remove the front from the deck entirely. I'll add a raised section that will allow the high grass to hit the blades before bending over, and that should make cutting easier. It won't make a pretty cut, but I can knock it down and let it dry out before shredding it up with a regular mower. My pasture out back is a bear even when I've kept up with it. At least this way I can rake up clippings and feed my critters too, since it's fescue anyway. Eventually I'll get the electric fence up, and let them do the work. But for now I'll have something to keep the field mice and snakes away.

6 pointsSlowly boxing things up for the show. This is just a tiny teaser as I have so much more buried to dig out.

6 pointsThanks guys for all the encouraging comments…Zach is floating on “cloud nine”! He’s a good kid and a hard worker. Doesn’t take as well to his schoolwork and so we have to challenge him some on that front, but he works with his hands—I can’t fault him for that! It has been such a blessing doing this project with him…it has been a growth period for me as I have had to learn that he is more capable of many things than I’ve given him credit for in the past. stay tuned for the final details and the test drive video. Then we have a deck to refurbish and a rear tiller to set up (momma says that she needs some ground broken up and leveled out in the woods). Blackbeard could be a show only tractor but he was built to work! Zach will take care of him—I have no doubt but I know he will spend plenty of time “hoisting the main sail”!!!

6 pointsIf you happen to have D-series there is room for 2 drink holders. Add lights in case you are mowing after dark.

5 pointsIt was the Heathersgill Vintage Rally this weekend. Friday was a decent day and warm as we started setting up. Saturday was b****y cold. Sunday the actual rally day was wet first thing but came fine just before noon. Turned out well with plenty of entries and members of the public. Below are a few photo's. Some Americana. Monster truck. Nice DAF. Some stationary engines. Working scale models. Tractor, thresher and baler. Also crawler and plough amd combine harvester. Ex-RAF tug. Miniature steam wagon. Some motorcycles. Some of the cars. This 1920s Wolseley belongs to a good friend of mine. My B-80 and Sears GT16. First and third in class respectively. Nice Clydesdale's.

5 pointsWell we've been pretty on the past edge of ridiculous busy for a few days but we've got a few more things done on the Millie tractor. Here's the mid mount hitch sent up by @Lee1977 Trina got a few small parts painted and installed such as this belt guard she repaired with spare parts off the shelf. Also above is the choke bracket we borrowed from another engine while we find one for this. Trina got the brake and clutch linkage all corrected and back on. One bolt broke so we'll have to address that when we get back from Zagray. Also seen above is the location of the starter solenoid. I've been working on building a whole new wiring harness over the last couple weeks. I like to use plenty of zip ties to keep it in place and away from other pieces. Trina added the fuel filter and lines. We got the fuel tank in place this evening. Next session we'll finish connecting that. In order to get this tractor in the 5 x 8 trailer we'll have to set it in sideways across the back. To reduce width and length we changed the rear tires for a set of fronts I keep for Cinnamon Horse. That uses 5 lug rims. At the show(s) we'll pop the other set back on. Note the BBT "half face" selfie.....

5 pointsIf the fuel pump is sucking the primer bulb flat, you have a strong fuel pump. There has to be a blockage between the primer bulb and fuel tank. clogged screen in the petcock, clogged vent in the fuel tank cap, something in the tank that is floating and covering the screen, a kinked or pinched fuel line, could also be the inlet check valve on the primer bulb is sticking closed.
-
5 pointsThanks for bringing that up. I've noticed the same on mine. Not likely I'll attempt to adjust it immediately because I use the park brake so much.
-
5 pointsI personally would not pay anything for it. Everything that you would have to buy to make it back into the lawn tractor that it once was would cost you more than $200.00. Just my

5 pointsIt changes tone some but yes. Belt guard there or not. With the right exhaust system modifications you will never hear that noise again.

4 pointsI resealed mine one of mine a few years ago. It was relatively easy, the hardest part was removing the tines. I found that heat and then IMMEDIATELY using it in hard ground with the pins removed worked best. Here’s some pics, I know you guys like pictures!

4 pointsThe flail mower my son got had 3 piece flat blades - a center section and 2 pivoting 6 inch or so long ends, probably 3/4" thick. Those had cutting edges all along both sides - reversable. They pivoted so if you ran over something in the 2" diameter range or bigger, it was a bit forgiving. Towed behind a high ground clearance ATV with a front skid plate, he could knock over 1-1/2" saplings with no problem - the 10 HP mower had NO problem with them either.... He had it for 3 seasons and sold it for what he paid for it.
-
4 pointsSounds like the screen on the tank valve is plugged up. Try to drain the tank into a gas container to see if gravity will drain the tank. If it will not empty the tank and screen need to be cleaned.

4 pointsUp to you, but I have removed the park brake/ tensioner from every auto I have. I just put a strong spring on the pulley swingarm, and remove the rest. Gravity holds the park brake open, and they are typically worn anyway. Runs quiet as a mouse.

4 pointsThe end is in sight!!! Zach has worked tirelessly on his tractor in between our travels, school assignments, and life distractions—he has begun to see the reward for his labor! Last Saturday we collected the heart of the beast from “Davy Jones’ Locker” (a little pirate 🏴☠️ humor😉) and set it back into the frame. Zach worked with his Christmas tools resembling the beautiful sheet metal. Look at the shine in that side panel. It had to be redone a couple of times because of runs but the finished result is sweet! At this point, we have a little electrical to hook up and new decals from @Vinylguy and I think Blackbeard is ready to set sail again! This kid is as happy as a clam and so am I! It really was a privilege to spend so much time with him in the shop seeing this project come to fruition! This is a fun addition—our tractor never has had the original center cap since we have owned it. While we were in Savannah Georgia a couple of years ago for our missions travels, we were in a souvenir store and they had these reproduction “pieces of eight”—pirates booty! Perfect center piece for Blackbeard! I found a PVC pipe cap at the local box store, Zach painted it Semi gloss black, and we used RTV black to seal it to the wheel and secure the piece of eight! Arrrrrrrrrr me maties

3 pointsI once asked a friend of mine who has a big lawn, "How long does it take to mow your lawn?" His answer was "Usually about 6 beers" In Wisconsin talk that's about 2hrs.

3 pointsI hear ya Sparky... I got my '92 246H immaculate & well maintained vert. down on the road for sale. Askin 750 but nobody wants it. One tire kicker I says where you gonna find a mower like this for the money at a big box?? Deer in the headlights look. Go figure... Getting a kick out of the way you is opening hoods at boxes just to check things out. I'da been a clerk ther I woulda took one look at ya and said get the hell outta here I can see you favor !

3 points@kpinnc agree with you on the fix, on a repetitive problem there is a track or failure spot , usually enhance / improve as I go . its amazing to me how easily linkage / levers work with snugging up / washers lubrication , change an end connection to a heim joint. most of the stuff I see is solid neglect . pete

3 pointsI have 6 Sunstrand hydros. The D200 has no disconnect but it also has 20 hp it starts and can move but she doesn't get used in the real cold. The others are all 12-16 hp and in winter have to run for a few seconds before you can engage the hydro or they will stubble and/or stall. I used the 4x4 parking brake for awhile but it isn't that hard to fix the parking brake and it is a lot safer. One thing I have noted over time you can get the neutral setting adjusted in the summer but when it gets cold they may creep.
-
3 pointsI keep a shaker top of J&J Baby Powder just to install tubes - lightly coat the inside of the tire with one bead on the rim - install the tube. Then the other bead - when you air it up, it allows the tube to wiggle into position without folds - no issues.

-
3 pointsThanks! This is my first venture into building a building. It’s not perfect by no means but when done, should last me till my time expires. My oldest owns his own garage door business. This door was a takedown but fits my needs perfectly. I have another one a little larger that may end up in the side of a container. I have more concrete to pour and another building just like this one to build later. This one has to be completed first 😁
-
3 pointsSmall tires can be a PIA to change. I use dishwashing liquid soap on the bead, and a good dose of talcum powder inside for the tube... Definetly retorque the head several times after start up.... Bill

3 pointsCondolences. My Dad passed in January. Big hole in life... Cool idea on the deck. Look forward to seeing you make it happen...
-
3 pointsKevin, difficult times show us what we are really made of, been there, done that... Twenty years or so ago, my son bought a used 60" tow behind flail mower and a Super Tomahawk chipper. The flail mower had twin spindles with HUGE greaseable mounted bearings, probably 1-1/4", maybe larger. Those blades require some serious spindles! And a reinforcing plate to keep the deck from twisting. Planning on 2 or 3 blades?? Two is easier and cheaper, but you have to address the overlap, unless you intentionally leave them spaced apart, and that will leave an uncut "Mohawk" of grass that requires a second pass. Bill
