6 pointsInstead of waiting until the weekend I decided to spend a few hours after work the last couple of days to finish my 656 project up. Engine purrs like a kitten at idle, roars like a lion at full speed. Always love the feeling I get when I start up an engine that I have rebuilt. Put about 3/10's on the hour meter doing heat cycles & driving around a little bit. She will be back in the field by tomorrow doing some work with a lite disc harrow. Feels good to have this off my plate, now maybe I can get some work done on my stuff.

She's obviously never watched me maneuver a dozer blade! It's dangerous to be in the vicinity! At least the dozer has trip springs!

4 pointsI needed to do some soil checks to see how dry the field has become. This plow was set up for cruising behind a 953, but Putt Putt didn’t mind either! It was dry enough to pull the camper out! I have to drive about 1/8 mile or so to the field entrance to easily pull it to the road, then the driveway.

4 pointsI was already on it @ri702bill I really enjoy our 5th wheel toy hauler and the way it hauls behind Norman. The axle placement seems different than a standard 5th wheel however and some day, I’ll learn how to back it up efficiently! I can’t say I notice the difference in pulling when it’s loaded or unloaded. It’s just backing up that is still odd. I have been hauling trailers for quite a few years before tractors and campers too. Boats, deck overs, gooseneck, bumper pull, you name it. Most toy haulers have a fuel dock on them, so you can haul empty if you choose. The hard part, is timing the, to run out just as you load them! The ramp is quite steep and I can’t imagine NOT power loading. All you hauler garages have ventilation built in. There are generally two vents, one high and one low. You can scoop air with either, or dump air with either. Either way, they are still 2x2 construction on wheels and things move. Our glass slider shuts and locks but still manages to open. The furnace and a/c ducting are shared between the garage and living quarters. There may be power vent options, it’s worth looking into. I’ve made due with the tie downs provided. The floors have a pre-determined tie down layout and the D rings are recessed into the wood, but sandwich the rubber floor. Pretty much you deal with it and get creative. Our garage is 8’x13’ and can fit 4 tractors, corn hole boards, and a few odds and ends comfortably. I could probably fit 5-6 small machines if I tried hard. This year, the RJ58 is the feature at the Big Show and I really wanted to pour a big selection of RJs out of the rig but the girls want to have their pick or show machines this year and I’m not going to argue if they want to participate. Did I do ok? Any questions I didn’t cover? @WHX?? has his bumper pull Wolf Pack with an open floor plan. The tractors are in the living room/bedroom/kitchen area while hauling. His lungs and sniffer probably tick on napalm and palmall so there’s that… Looking for pictures, I was reminded of this - make sure the tire shop gives you high pressure valve stems! The extra toy weight over or behind the axles can push air pressure past the rubber valve stems and the wheel! Also, if that new 3/4 ton is a long bed, there’s always room for one more little guy in the bed.

4 pointsI would try to knock a bit more coin off the price, if it doesn’t run well enough for a test drive… however my bet is a fuel system cleaning is definitely in order. Has it been stored inside it’s whole life? Other than sun damage to the seat, paint, etc… the transmissions are known to allow water to run down the shifter and add to the oil inside the transmission. Be sure to check all fluids and levels. Verify that the front end and steering is tight, has been greased, etc. I don’t know a ton about Onans first hand, but I’d highly recommend removing all cooling tins and cleaning the cylinders and air passages before running it too hard. 4 pointsI’m new(ish) to dealing with old wheel horses. I have a 702 that is running well but it needs some work. My welds broke in my foot rest so I need to repair that and I feel like extra bracketing was added later (don’t look like original wheel horse brackets) but the brackets probably have a well intended purpose. I want to learn everything I can about my 702. My eventual goal is to strip it down and refinish it entirely, I’d just like to understand it all first. I live in Virginia near the coast and it’s hard to find wheel horse junkies down this way. If anyone has bracket diagrams on how attachments should be mounted I’d love to see them. Also, if anyone in VA has 702 attachments I’d be very interested in buying!

4 pointsNothing I can add to this! Maybe a And don't sweat the restoration. Fix it the way you want and enjoy it. Contrary to an ugly rumor, there is no such department known as the Tractor Police. There are no rules! I've restored a couple, touched up others. But ALL of my tractors are workers, and that's what they were built for. If I wanted trailer queens I'd restore green stuff! ...No, actually I wouldn't for any reason restore green stuff.

3 pointsI’m only interested in cutting grass and plowing snow. My driveway is pretty short. My preference would be a hydraulic lift, especially for plowing, but my #1 focus is mowing my lawn, which will be fine with a manual lift.

3 pointsI'd offer $350 and settle somewhere in between. Carb clean is essential. Battery is probably bad and engine dies when battery dies. Onan 16 hp is a great engine. My 416 has over 1000 hours. Only thing I've ever replaced is rectifier and carburetor.

3 pointsYou may want to ask @Pullstart - Kevin has a travel trailer with the Ge-rage area at the rear. He may also tell you that you are light on carrying 2-3 tractors. He can probably stuff 12-16 in like cordwood if needed...

3 pointsAlso another thing to think about: if you're thinking of using on a Wheel Horse, be sure the pump is rated for side loads. Most pumps these days are designed to run direct drive with a lovejoy connector, and don't have bearing support on the main shaft. They will wear and fail quickly if they aren't made to stand up to belt drive.

3 pointsEven though I’m not a Tecumseh fan, if it runs good I’d leave it. Especially since I’m a “ like it all original kinda guy!” Since my first techy on my go-cart when I was a kid, to my log splitter I’ve always had issues with them. I now own only one techy and I’m definitely not changing it, especially since it only has approximately 3-4 hours on it since 1966. My Reo RR-46. We are going to need plenty of pictures of your C-120 when you get it @Docwheelhorse because you know how much we love pictures! Here’s my Techy 4hp Reo. I think I’ve also found a rarity with this because I’ve never seen another one with tiller steer.

Really makes me think about my mortality and it's tough. I hope you're doing well. BTW, looks like a good worker you have there. I have the same model but a year older. Very capable.

3 pointsReassembly has begun!! Steering pillow block and lower shaft is in. Front axle with its new bushings and pin. THAT. Is VERY tight now. What an excellent modification. Hubs have been chosen. Transmission pulley set out. Transmission magnetic drain plug in.

2 pointsMy father passed away last week. Today, I brought home his 1990 310-8 that he purchased new back in the day. Still need to get the 37"SD mower deck out of the garage. Always garaged kept, but I'm pretty sure that he never ever washed it. LOL Short term plans are to return it to safe operating order but no restoration. I'm going to do the wash and lubricant soak down that Greasy Pete has mentioned to preserve the patina.

2 pointsProbably because the fuel pump check valves are not drop tight. Over time, the fuel flows back to the tank and the fuel pump loses its prime. Common fixes are; Install a shut off valve install a marine primer bulb install an electric fuel pump I personally use primer bulbs if the fuel pump is working OK when primed. I the fuel pump isn't pumping, I install an electric pump.

2 pointsIf I were doing a "will it run?" session on the 416, i would disconnect the fuel line at the fuel pump on the side of the engine shroud and remove all the old fuel from the tank and pump the fresh fuel through the [diaphram] fuel pump. If possible crack the carb bowl loose and get the old gas out. put the fuel supply hose on the pump and the new gas might get through and make a difference. You could also test the thing by removing the air cleaner and dribbling some fuel into the throat. That onan 16 will have electronic ignigtion and you should not have spark issues. Check the little fuses just in front of the battery on the right side. There is a safety switch for the blade engage lever under there that can corrode from the battery fumes as well. If it cannot run with clean fuel I would go with the other one. If it does, I would buy them both. You could always sell one once you picked the favorite. i dearly love the C-160-8 and the c-160 auto i have, but i picked up a kohler magnum 314 and it is quite a machine as well. That onan will be pretty thirsty and may seem to use twice as much gas per acre [at least forty percent more to my best guess] Another onan advantage is the oil filter with pressure lubrication. onans are supposed to be run at full throttle, so keep that in mind as well.

2 pointsAnything 48 inches or less should be easy, if you go by the method already described here in this thread. Though I admit the surface you work on makes a huge difference. Dirt, grass, gravel kinda sucks. Concrete or smooth surface is much better. 60 inch decks are a bear no matter what surface. I'm a big boy, but the dang thing outweighs me by a stretch. I use a strap and pull that sucker into place from a standing position, and hope my kids don't hear the colorful metaphors...

2 pointsMy 520H is like yours. The 44" blower stays on all year. My Work Horse is the hauler and mower. I take the deck off to mount the plow for the small snows and the wet stuff that clogs the blower. THEN I have to put the deck back on. My main issue is "sliding" the deck under to get the lift arm hooked up. It would work great with a Teflon driveway! Maybe I'm just getting too old for this sh*t.
