    Finally picked up this C-something. It's been rotting away for years in a guys lockup just down the road. Managed to buy it off him along with a selection of rusty implements. Still have a plow (plough?) To pick up and a few other bits and pieces. Haven't had a chance to have a good look yet, but the wheelhorse itself is in poor shape. Not sure what the engine is, will have a cup of tea and investigate further...

    Here's my first WH. A Tecky powered '74 C-120 Automatic . One of the best trouble free tractors I had.

    This just got air lifted, well lowered, into my yard. Traded my basket case Panzer T205 for it. I'm thinking I made out ok. @ebinmaine I can now join the C series crew lol. The trans is free and shifts fine. The engine turns by hand,no carb. The clutch spins,attach o magic pulley is froze. Tierods are rusted away. Just a quick chance over.

    Hello all, So... A friend put me onto a C120 Automatic that is super clean but hasn't run in years. It is sitting in corner of barn. I need to go pick it up (it's in Vermont) and no I didn't get it for free. Anyways the real interesting part is the 12 hp motor is a TECUMSEH... Ill assume that it got this motor during the Kohler strike / delivery issue of late 70s. I'll also assume this is the last Wheel Horse to get a Tecumseh---I don't recall seeing any Tecumseh powered stuff in the 80s or later. Is this thing "rare" or worth more than the average C? I'm going to see about getting it running. No... im not going to swap in a Kohler as I've been told to do by the Tecumseh haters. I dont like them either but this is too clean and too original and maybe too unique to rip it apart. I'll probably try and get it to run and maybe it just stays as-is a show piece / huh I've never seen one of them deals. Hey @Wild Bill being the worlds #1 Tecumseh fan whatta you have to say?     No... paid more than I should... but its one of those clean weird setups that doesn't come along often. And I don't mind the TeJUNKski if I can make it run. I haven't fought the carb on one in awhile. I'm overdue for a swear filled rant....

    Not often we see attachments made in Belgium. Please post the model and serial numbers so we can add to the lists. The dozer blades at the time came in two packages. The 6-4112 could be used with a 42" blade and a 54" wide blade for the higher hp model tractors.

    My father passed away last week. Today, I brought home his 1990 310-8 that he purchased new back in the day. Still need to get the 37"SD mower deck out of the garage. Always garaged kept, but I'm pretty sure that he never ever washed it. LOL Short term plans are to return it to safe operating order but no restoration. I'm going to do the wash and lubricant soak down that Greasy Pete has mentioned to preserve the patina.

    I’m by no means a Tecky fan and if I needed to pull one in favor of a Kohler, I would. However, I’ve been known to use Kohler destined parts to get a Tecky running again.

    In my own defense @Achto got tired of me saying ... help I fell off my barstool and can't get up. So he outfitted one with seat belts. I suspect camp chairs at shows are next...

    Please accept my condolances - not my favorite way for me to get a new-to-me tractor. We still have my FIL's 702 here, honestly, I'd rather have him.........

    I agree with the try to keep it original sentiment. Give it a fair chance and see how it turns out. If it turns into a big project and parts are hard to come by and expensive then a Kohler switch would make sense. Cool find though for sure! 12hp with a mower deck and snow plow is about the most desirable package setup for most people. Looking forward to how it turns out!

    The yellow Teflon tape is used on gasoline fittings and can be purchased at any auto parts store. Generally, white sealing tape (one of the most common varieties) is used for standard plumbing applications whereas yellow Teflon™ tape is used with gas

    The C series long frame has a stiffening raised ridge that runs horizontal and does not allow the plate to sit flat. Some folks use loose washers, but that is a PITA juggling act to install. I weld 2 solid flat straps that span the ridge - makes for a solid fit. And the 2 clearance cuts shown (for the optional diagonal bolt in triangular braces).

    I’m new(ish) to dealing with old wheel horses. I have a 702 that is running well but it needs some work. My welds broke in my foot rest so I need to repair that and I feel like extra bracketing was added later (don’t look like original wheel horse brackets) but the brackets probably have a well intended purpose. I want to learn everything I can about my 702. My eventual goal is to strip it down and refinish it entirely, I’d just like to understand it all first. I live in Virginia near the coast and it’s hard to find wheel horse junkies down this way. If anyone has bracket diagrams on how attachments should be mounted I’d love to see them. Also, if anyone in VA has 702 attachments I’d be very interested in buying!

    Condolences. It’s sad and unfortunate but there’s nothing for it. Cherish that machine, it will always remind you of him. Long may it run!

    So sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing anyone can say can really help, but you can know that others are thinking and praying for you. I'm glad you got his tractor. The longevity of these machines allows for such things, and I hope it provides as much happiness to you as it did him.

    If it came from the factory with the Tecumseh, they're usually labeled a C-120 Special (I had one), but because that one is an automatic, they didn't have room for the "Special" label. Only year I see listed with the Tecumseh and the Automatic combination is a 1974, model tag number 1-0495. Somewhat rare, but not necessarily desirable unless you're a Tecumseh fan. My C-120 Special was converted over to a Kohler K12 at some point.

    When using teflon tape, make sure you keep it back one full thread from the end of the male fitting so pieces don't get cut off and enter the carb.

    Too much, but at least it's not rotting away anymore. Stuff is harder to find over here so it's got a value as a parts machine.

    @CCW OK - I have no clue just how it got that reference - but - it is the thin flat plate at the rear of the frame - 3 sided, welded to the angle iron frame rails, that the Unidrive bolts up behind. They take a beating over time, usually from repeated use for plowing. That imparts a LOT of twist and vibration into the plate - ending up with serious, but repairable damage. Note that 3 of the 4 are severely cracked out - this was from a 854 parts tractor I bought that was dedicated to plowing only, all it's life.... it wiggled like an inchworm while moving..... AND the entire frame is twisted about a 1/4".......this one is destined to join the slumber party and become part of a "Yard Art" tractor - the last usefull step before the crusher.... she earned her wings.

    Tractor is a 314-8. Fuel ilne comes up to the carb from below. The carb has a fuel elbow that points downward in a 6 o'clock position toward the fuel line. The fuel elbow MUST be pointed downward to the hose. But, in that position, the fuel elbow is not snug in the carb. Question: How do I make sure the fuel elbow is snug in the carb in a 6 o'clock position so I'm not shooting fuel all over the place? Is this a job for Teflon tape?

    Agreed. I have three of the 1974 C160 with Tecumseh engines .. as an OHV. Very interesting if nothing else.

    I know because of the engine what year that makes it but just for future reference that hood ornament was dropped sometime in very early 1976.

    I would suggest several 1/8" holes with a 1/4" top portion drilled half way down to act as a reservoir for penetrating oil of your choice.

    @ebinmaine I came across a snake yesterday myself! It’s always a bit startling, but then we have a chat about them keeping mice away and I’ll provide plenty of comfort and tranquility on the property!

    This engine has a magneto ignition and is not wired back to the battery. Good grounds are important to the operation of a magneto and should be cleaned though. The Kohler Service Manual below will give you some insight on how the Magneto ignition system operates and what to adjust. @ineedanother was on the right track with cleaning up grounds and connections, there could just be a corroded connection or a wire with chafed insulation. remove the flywheel cover and inspect the wire from the points to the magneto and from the ignition switch "M" terminal to the points or magneto depending on where it was routed. The "M" terminal will ground out the magneto when in the off position, a chafed wire could ground itself grounding the magneto intermittently. Your engine probably has a three amp unregulated charging system, not sure. The problem you experienced uploading pictures can be corrected by becoming a supporter.

    In short, yes I put tape on all of mine. General purpose white is fine for gas or diesel but others might have other solutions...

    Don’t fret @SylvanLakeWH, the frame is cracked but it won’t be scrapped totally. It’ll live on some way or another. Either a full frame swap, or a drivetrain swap into the Texas 2wd truck (with a solid front axle 4x4 conversion)
