Hello Putt Putt, how we have missed you…

well guys I hope your holidays were the best and the new year is a better one for every one; though my so called holidays were not the best as last month on the 8th I lost my wife of 51 years as the doctors told me that she died from a massive heart attack ;this should not had happened as 3 years ago on the month of November she had open heart surgery I was informed that at that time she was to weak at that time but they went though it anyways as she had a bad blood vessel to her heart and they took a blood vessel from her leg to replace the bad one ;now on top of that she was told that she was in the 4th stage of kidney failure it seemed that after all was said and done her doctor appointments were few and far ;when she came home from that surgery she was laid up for a few months and yes I was always here to help her so about 4 months ago she decided that she wanted to go back to work just part time at the air port here in Springfield Mo she loved the job as being a prep and only a 6 hour shift leaving at 3 in the morning and arriving back around noon' so on that day we sat at the table having a cup of coffee and chatting about super where she needed to go to bed and sleep where I can take care of things well I left the room for maybe 15 minutes I heard a strange sound and noise so I came running back out and she was laying on the floor gasping for air I tried every thing that I could do than called 911 they arrived and she had a weak pulse it left but came back than again gone so they tried CPR than off they went to the hospital ;' after I arrived I was told that they really tried hard but she left ; so it must had happened fast as the time we chatting she never said any thing about any pain or any issues but she is like me bull headed and stubborn so now it seems I have to try to move on with out her but it going to be hard as she was the love of my life plus high school sweet hearts 'as far as my 6 wheel horses that I have it seems that at this time I have lost interest sorry for the long rant but again it is hard after 51 years to try to get my life in order

51 years is an exceptional time together, sir. I'm sure there are no words we can offer that will be of any consolation. That being said, please know others are thinking of you and praying for you during this time. I am so sorry for your loss, and pray God will give you peace and strength!

This kid is so excited about each piece that gets finished—I don’t blame him… We elected to paint the top of the floorboards with truck bed liner from a can. It has grit in it that makes a pretty good traction surface and should be pretty durable over time. He laid down the self etching primer (thanks Dan for the advice) and after it dulled… top coated! He was “dying” to lay down some red and so we elected to do the dash tower next. After he finished it he declared, “Man, I love the look of that fresh red paint!” Well said. Last night he painted the grill. And of course, Blackbeard needed…well…a black beard or goatee. Next up Zach learned to work with JB weld for the first time. We needed to fill the slot on the hood for the hood latch. I elected to not install that given the geometry of the hood hinge design. So Zach got after the task at hand and did a good job! Next up—a temporary paint booth! We have lots of red to spray now!

Wow that was tough to read. So very sorry. Red Square and all of us will be here if and when you want to talk about anything…not just tractors.

Its tough aint it!! I can sure know of how it is. Two yrs ago, day after thanksgiving I lost my little bride of 62 yrs to that awful alzheimers disease. Fortunately?? she - and I - only had about 3 yrs of it, unlike so many that linger 10-12 yrs. I had a couple horses in the line up and I just forced myself to start the work on them, and, it helped .... to stay BUSY and try not to find your self just sitting.

Refurbed a battery box off a 875. Both battery holders gone. I really enjoy doing these as it involves getting them toasty and some old skool smithing on an anvil. Didn't go on a but my leetle friend now has some horse parts ...

Agreed, though I wouldn't "work" the engine with ATF in the oil. Maybe crank and idle for a few minutes before draining. Allow to warm up and splash around to break the gunk, but much more than that can be rough on bearings. But yeah it cleans exceptionally well. Just open any Sundstrand that is full of it. They look like the gears and shafts were just machined after 50 years...

Easy! I HAVE seen a chicken lay an egg.. the other way around though.. not so much

The O-ring 970132 will be mailed in the am.... Glad I could help.

Solution... NOTE... Instead of drilling the 1/8" hole, one could use a small HOSE CLAMP on that rod, then connect the spring to that clamp..

Several yrs ago I bought a ... kit/package? of 10 small neodymium magnets, bout the size of a pencil eraser -- and geez, how handy those little things are (and I've only go 1 left!!) I've always put one on the drain plug and it still surprises me when I pull one and regardless of how clean the used oil looks, there will be a small pile of ...metal? dust collected on it. I found an old car radio antenna and glued on on the end of it to reach/fish out that nut, bolt, washer, etc out from under the bench.

I am sorry for your heartbreak and loss. While there is pain and suffering in the world, Jesus accomplished absolute victory over suffering and death on the cross. He promised he would never leave us, and I do believe that. May you somehow feel his closeness and unfailing love during this unbearable time. Tim(HorseNewbie)

So sorry to read about your loss. I don't know how I would handle losing my wife of 50+ years. My condolences to you and your family.
  18. 4 points
Yes, please remember what Mike just said. We are here to help fill in the empty times. On Dec 20, I nearly lost my love of 60 years, but the emergency room brought her back. I can imagine how hard it would be able to handle the loss. Try to stay active. Renew relationships with family, old friends, social clubs, Red Square, crossword puzzles....anything to fill in the lonely times.

Those are all close to me also. My wife and I honeymooned in Clarksville GA and retired to Franklin NC seventeen years ago.

Just to make the call, right? Hello, fix it man? Yes, that’s me. That’ll be $100. What can I do you for?

Hello All It's been a little while. I got a shout from a friend this morning. I told him I was going to do some work on my 175, and would post pics when it was done. It's done. A while back I mounted the blade, wheel weights, and chains on my 175. I was ready for winter. Or so I thought. It snowed, and I went out to plow. I came waaaay to close to my wife's van. I was kind-a in a hurry. I had to be quick before it melted. Anyway, it did a great job of plowing, but I noticed the brakes were not quite right. I finally got a chance to look at it today. Seems the chain on the right rear tire was playing havoc with my brake pad. Bent it up a bit.I got that straightened out, and noticed the chain was rubbing on the brake drum. I had to space the wheel out some. I used to have a bucket full of wheel spacers, but as I recall, I sold them all to someone up north somewhere. I ordered some today. Hopefully, the snow will hold off until they get here. Not wanting to run into my wife's van, or my trucks, or anything else, I added a couple of things. A back-up camera, and a parking sensor that makes an obnoxiously loud sound when you get too close to something. I need loud, as I am running str8 pipes. The muffler got in the way of the blade turn handle, so I took it off. As I said, it pushed the 3" of snow very well, and I am pleased with that. A whole lot better than a 656 with 2 Lawn Boy snow blowers mounted on the front. Tomorrow I will post some pics of my latest project. Not a tractor, but some might find it interesting. Greg

Non Ethanol gas with Barrymans B-12 fuel treatment is the only thing that goes in my gas tank. I use 30 weight motor oil intended for diesel engines because it has a higher zinc content. Changing the oil on a regular basis is the key to engine longevity in my opinion.

Here in Virginia I went to three different stores and each one had the sale going on.

@Tonytoro416 - I cringed when I read "Motor Flush" . Not sure if "Motor Medic" is even sold anymore - if not, good! As a young teenager in the late 1960's, i had a friend whose Dad had a side business buying & flipping used cars-his Dad used to flush all the cars to get rid of most of the sludge to increase oil pressure. Sometimes it worked, others made it worse. We also used to remove the valve covers, clean the insides and use a short lenght of broken speedometer cable with a low speed electric drill to ramrod the oil return holes - wicked messy.... learned a lot of basic do's and don'ts of fixing cars from him. Joe & I used to flip a coin to see who the unlucky one would be to undo the oil pan plug - it was like zero weight oil!!!!

Security until Christmas… then they’ll be dinner. We’ll likely raise a big enough flock to market them on a small scale.

I don't do the grocery shopping so take this with a grain of salt. I think we went from about $2.50, $3 a dozen to around $4.50, $5 a dozen. To guarantee that the farmers are getting the cash, BUY DIRECT FROM THE PRODUCER. I don't know about where the rest of you folks are located but there are tons and tons and tons of roadside egg selling stands around my place.

Because we have our own chickens Trina has not bought eggs in a year or more. Imagine her surprise at the price increase over just that time.....

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and thank you for sharing. I know that we don’t KNOW you, but know that you can always lean on us. I’m going on 16 years and it feels like we have more memories together than apart already. Having been at a recent funeral of a 16 month old, and he being the 7th sibling in the family, we witnessed all kinds of reactions, grief, happiness that Declan was with Jesus, etc. I know it doesn’t feel like it, but you will pull through one way or another.

Configuring some weight for the newly added receiver hitch to help offset the 2 stage on the front and hopefully prevent slippage. Need to weld a 1 inch bar to the shank to hold the stack of weights but this is what it should look like.

Well deer season ends tomorrow and after archery season closed a month ago I kind of lost interest. But the one thing I didn’t lose interest in is ice fishing. Every weekend from here til March I will be somewhere in New England ice fishing. The boys enjoy it just as much as I do. I have already been twice in the last week. I have a place that freezes well before everywhere else. It already has 9inches of ice on it while most places are unsafe. We are headed back there tomorrow to see if the boys can have another good day. Funny story that actual is Wheel Horse related. My dad used to tow all his ice fishing gear out onto the ice with his 12 Automatic equipped with chains. I don’t ever remember him doing that but he did. He said it worked really good unless the snow was deep then he left it home. Some of the places he used to go was half mile or more from the parking area so the tractor beat walking he said. anyone else in western mass ice fish?

@OoPEZoO if you gave a new truck , any brand , a body spray with kroil , especially under cab and at fender well openings , in a day all those areas would be wet with creeping kroil , then over spray with open gear oil , it would follow the kroil into the tight spots , stop rust / rot before it starts . cannot beat a penetrant like kroil , in doors , tailgate , frame cross channel's . done that on my stuff for years , not a speck of rust/ rot . simple / easy , pete

May as well get accustom to the higher price for eggs. It will take about a year to raise Avian-flu free hatchlings to be born and develop to good egg laying adults. This has happened before, most recently in 2014-15 but eggs were less than a dollar a dozen then, the price doubled then just as it has now. With all the supply chain BS and inflation going wile the price went from $ 2.25 to $ 5.00 when the bird flu struck.

Now i'm no economist by a long shot but how about we let those meat chickens lay some eggs first before un-aliving them? Looks to me you kill two birds with one stone that way

I use ethanol free fuel in all my equipment. I have dumped a can of Seafoam into a full tank of gas. Seemed to help my Onan run better.

@Pullstart agree with you on the ATF fluid , used that on a few horse rear end drive and flush runs . like to heat it up before draining it , add a qt ,and take it for a roadrive , use every gear , range . drainage is much more thorough , pete

@stevasaurus the Tunk Lake you speak of is only a 10min drive from the house. I've fished that alot in years past. The water is still as clear as you said. Unfortunately it has been getting to the point that locally it has been nick named "Skunk" Tunk. The flags are few and faaaaar between. Although there are still some massive lake trout roaming the depths. Trolling for salmon during open water is still fairly productive. The Flanders Pond mentioned is about 25min from the house. Ever winter for the last 10 years in February there is a fishing derby held. All proceeds are donated to the local kids camp. Tight lines everyone......

I don't have a cushy condo deer stand Jim. Us poor 80yos gotta stay in shape to shinny up a tree.

I do not use a solid link. I use a chain. Reason being, if the blade hits something in the road, instead of trying to lift the whole tractor, it only lifts the blade. I have an expansion joint at the end of my driveway where the apron meets the drive. At times there is a lip that sticks up. I'd rather lift the blade than jolt the whole tractor.

Geez Sylvia... that’s tuff act to follow... all I did was put some WW on a 502. Wow ... hope the text talk police don't show up at my door... Got these from @cschannuthwhen I picked up the FEL and figured I'd never use them... wrong. Only maybe 20-30 lbs a piece but better than a poke in the eye with a dull stick. I may try and hitch up that 8 in Brinly Craig I got from you too. I couldn't get it to track right behild the regular plow mule but didn't futz with it that much. Be happy to know Greasy Pete before she left the shop got a full lube job... red tacky and all. Just an awesome little tractor and I definitely fell in love with her techy and all.
