8 pointsI have been buying these hex head plastic covers for years from the company! They look great, protect from rust, dirt and grease. They come in different sizes and colors. Adds some bling but real protection to the tractors. A couple photos from my B-80 with ten year old chrome look plastic pro-dec covers. Link to the company website: http://www.pro-dec.com

7 pointsPicked this up at an estate sale today for 20 bucks. Looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. I have owed one of these before and I must say Gilson must have had a really good paint department because of the two I have seen the paint holds up great for the years. Although this one looks great it needs big help. First of all the inside of the gas tank is the worst I have ever seen. Not sure it could be saved. Second it is missing the throttle speed adjustment lever. We'll it's not really a lever. If you are familiar with these it's a knob that sticks straight up from the top of the engine. Pull up for full throttle, push down for idle. 5hp Briggs engine. Carb mounts to the tank. If anyone has a source for replacement parts let me know. I would like to get it running again. Does start with starting fluid. Thanks

6 pointsIf you make it into a mini-trailer with a pivot at the hitch and a couple of inflatable tire caster at the back it should be stable and follow you where ever you go, easy to back up too. Something like this;

4 pointsSo I was outside enjoying a beautiful day here in Western New York. Had two of my favorites out with me. Jeffrey and Forsaken. Jeffrey stopped biting the tires long enough for me to snap a picture. He HAS to bite the tires of whatever rolls out of the garage. Lawn mower, snowblower, trailer, tractor.... if it has tires and rolls he bites them. Anyone else have a dog who does that ? Let's see your photos of your dogs with your Wheel Horse.

4 pointswith a lawn sweeper being effectively a short trailer, they are difficult to back up. I know what you mean about oak trees randomly dropping leaves. The majority of my trees are oaks - a mix of red oak and white oak. Yup, the different types drop leaves at different times. Some of the trees hang onto some leaves all winter.

4 pointsOk so I found another one I'm probably going to go pick up this weekend. Is this one also a Suburban?

3 pointsAnother picture of the 86 K-20 back in 1999 when I had to put this truck to work for 3 years as a result of an accident with my 88 R-30 chassis cab with utility / panel body. This is a Reading space cap all steel made in Reading P.A. this is one of 3 new truck bodies from them. Very satisfied with their products, 2 steel and 1 aluminum. Was able to sell this cap and recoup a nice amount for it and put that towards the aluminum panel body for the 2002 Chevy K-3500 dual wheel chassis cab.

3 pointsI don't use electrical tape for anything because that stuff degrades into a sticky freaking mess (I get this is spray), EXCEPT for wires that I don't want to touch with a wire cap, like home wiring. If you want to displace water I use WD-40 (water displacement recipe #40) If you want to keep it clean and water repellant, maybe silicone spray If you want to keep it from rusting, get some Clenzoil made right here in Dade City, FL. I spray/wipe it on anything I don't want to rust /corrode which is most everything in humid FL.

3 pointsI have restored a few tractors over the years and was using the Miller's Tire Paint initially. It worked great and was a good product. However, with the coordination of a few fellow forum members and doing some sniffing and testing, we have found that diluted black latex paint does the same thing for a much cheaper price. Not banging tire paint specific products, they work. I'm just suggesting you can do it cheaper with possibly the same results I will let you know because I'm getting ready to do the tire on this . . .

3 pointsCut down and dug out a huge yuca type plant. I should have taken a picture before I started. You can see all the tops lined up behind the dirt pile. My C160 helped dig the hole and break off the soft roots. The root pile next to the dozer blade is about 1/3 of them. The rest are already in the trash can. Took all morning to get it the mass of dried spiny leaves around the trunks was hell to cut with the chain saw. They kept getting pulled into the drive gear area and bogging down the saw.

3 pointsSpent the majority of the afternoon today on Morgan, the 14-8, in third gear at 3/4 throttle towing the lawn sweeper around. Good day for the activity. Good breeze, dry leaves - a combination that worked almost too well. Anyhow, it looks like about 90% of the leaves in the 40 or so trees on our property are down and disposed of. That lawn sweeper is getting really loose. Think I'll buy a new one before next fall so I don't get caught with a broken, unrepairable sweeper when I also have a leaf covered lawn.

2 pointsAs a kid, raking leaves was never high on my list of yard chores and I'm glad that someone got the bright idea of a mulching deck. My 418 came with one when I got it and I use it every Fall instead of a rake. That said, I've been thinking about tweaking my re-cycler deck for years. Years ago I added a circular membrane around the spindle and held it in place with silicone caulk and the kickers (pictures 1 & 2). As I only use the deck in the Fall for leaves it worked fine and kept the area under the membrane clean. Over time, I have noticed that the rotation of the blades causes air pressure to build up in the right front corner of the deck and tends to blow the leaves away. One of the things I thought of was that it might be from the kickers deflecting the air down to help mulch. So today I decided to experiment with an idea that replaces the kickers with a metal plate (pictures 3 & 4) and see if that helps with the airflow. So they are gone for now and I also added a second blade to each spindle to see if that improves the mulching. With that done, it was time to test the theory and pictures 5 thru 7 show the result. There is still some air build up under the right front corner but it appears to work and the rakes love it...

2 pointsWorked on blowing leaves and started removing lattice from around the deck that I am having re-planked next weekend. Also worked on the Waldomobile ( another thread ). Plan on using the leaf eater tomorrow and removing rest of the lattice. Deck is 12 x 20 feet and the lattice is 4 x 8 feet .Lattice is in a 2x4 frame all screwed to 4x4 posts. Lot of groaning and popping noise from my old joints.

2 pointsThe stamped numbers on the shroud are all you need to get info on the Briggs parts. Great looking walk behind.
-
2 pointsHere's some new info for you - to REALLY drive me crazy. Went out, turned the key - she fired right up and then I pulled up on the PTO switch and it kicked in right away and ran for close to an hour, mulching leaves. I didn't want to press my luck, so I waited until I was all done, I shut the PTO switch off, waited a few minutes and then turned it back on and it worked! There's a gremlin in this thing and I need it to be more consistent because I use it to snowblow the driveway. I'm going to need it when I need it. Thx in advance!

2 pointsStarter fit perfect. With the new fuse block and battery it started right up and runs WAY better. Thanks again, We are having unusually warm weather so I like to cut the grass close before (to minimize snow mold) the winter and I overseeded some bad areas as well. Brian

2 pointsWonderful gift from China...Emerald Ash Borer. There are a few trees I can cut myself like this one, but, I am hiring a tree service to lay down several more. There will be lots of cutting up and hauling away work for the 310-8 and the L-107. Provably some heavy lifting with the D200 FEL. Yesterday was the start.

2 pointsExcellent idea Richard. There are massive loader style cranes which Americans often refer to as knuckle booms that are on super heavy duty versions of this. It creates a loophole in the weight restrictions of some states. By putting the crane on its own trailer even though it's permanently attached to the vehicle it adds a lot to the weight carrying capability by gross vehicle capacity. IIFF properly built it would be an excellent addition.

2 pointsThink i've said it before but man does that fender tire combo looks good! Reminds me of the big 'wheatland' tractors.
-
2 pointsFor future reference to cutting anything around dirt like that... Use a sawzall with a super coarse blade. Works like a charm. We've done a LOT of root removal here with all the land clearing. There are blades with reinforced teeth on a 4 to 6 TPI count and varying lengths. Extremely handy.
