12 pointsAs long as the C-141 was out of hibernation and given the fact that we've had an un-godly amount of rain, I decided to hitch up the lawn roller to smooth out the lawn. Sophi followed me around for a bit & then all but demanded that she be able to copilot the affair. Given the fact that I was flying along at 3/4 throttle in low 1, it was good that she came along to help with the high speed maneuver's.

11 pointsI've been trying to downsize my collection so that I can get a car into my garage (and make my wife happy). I went from 14 WHs down to 8. But when I saw a 1990 312-Hyro for sale nearby for a good price, "the devil made me do it". Picked it up for $300. Tractor has sat unused for over a year. Has 695 hours on it. Started with some coaxing. Needs a new seat, battery, two innertubes, fluid changes, and a good washing. It's going to be a worker to pull trailers, etc. around the yard. I guess the cars will just have to stay outside for awhile longer.

7 pointsTime for addressing the "no muffler" issue on the C-100 project. Keep in mind my welding skills don't even qualify for amateur status so be gentle if you are a skilled welder. But didn't want to battle getting off the black pipe that was already on the k241 to put in a double threaded connector so I welded on a 45 degree angle bend so I could use 1" black pipe for a basic muffler. I don't think it's air tight completely but it was pretty solid from the feel of threading in the pipe and I hitting it a few times. So it should soot up over time in any areas that aren't sealed completely. End result is better than no muffler at all. Straight pipe kohlers 4 feet from your face is less then enjoyable... With the hood on you can't even tell!!! There was no "ducking tomatos" emoji so just pretend there's one there

6 pointsAlmost have the pedals finished up. I think that the 3/8" rod passing over the foot board will be fine. Not going to make a cover for it at this time.

6 pointsJust because something looks like it should be lubed doesn't mean it should be. I had to PM a fairly new Hobart commercial dishwasher. We had no service manual for it and Hobart will not give out any info. They want their guys to do it. $$$$ There is this shiny chrome rod that a plastic doohingus rides over. The plastic piece is connected to a crank on a motor. I put some Wd-40 on it to protect and lube it. Fired up the machine and the conveyor didn't work. Pulled the cover back off and that plastic piece is sliding away on the chrome rod as nice as can be. Well that plastic part is supposed to GRAB the rod not slide on it!

6 pointsYou guys can put anti seize on your bedpost if you want.....just telling you it is backward thinking in this application. Especially in the case of the heaver 700 lbs + machines, the design is at its limits. We know the machines were assembled new to tolerances. Tightness and fit first quality. How many times do we see the key way chunked out and ruined? A lot of the machines I have worked on the rear seal starts leaking and then the result is movement in the hub. There have been some comments on this site that say "sure glad that seal was leaking cause that loosened up the hub". All the rotating forces are now on the key and the rest of the system is disabled and viola ruined hub and or axle. I admit they can be tough to get off but they always come off. Just something to think about!

4 pointsYes the brake is independent from the clutch on a 416-8 yes the differential will still allow the wheels to spin in different directions when the wheels are off the ground with the brake engaged so that is not a good test Remove the brake band and look for signs of oil, like from the seal leaking. Look at the material for signs of wear. If the material is good but oiled, I soak them in gasoline overnight to break that oil down. If the oil is coming from a worn brake shaft seal that should be fixed because it will just keep oiling the band if not repaired. Clean the drum surface and you can sand it with heavy grit to "roughen up" the surface a little which also helps with friction of the band. You can change the brake band material if needed or desired as the rubber type material grips better than that older stuff does. Inspect and adjust all the linkage

3 pointsI was mean and used to eat them in rough seas on the submarine. The smell would add to the looks for the guys that got seasick and had to stand the barf bag watch. They ate the crackers. I never got seasick!

3 pointsMaybe not so much what I did “to” my Wheel Horses today, as “what” I did “with” them… I am all but finished the Work Horse refresh, so I figured I would put her in the tractor shed… I got my two horses in there with the two yellow and white machines, but it was a tight fit… Thought I was gonna have to toss a Cub outside !

3 pointsI noticed a stiff ride on the Work Horse I just refreshed and put ags on the rear… I lowered the tire pressure’s all the way around to 12 psi… feels much softer…

3 pointsfirst of all; I want to thank everyone that replied to my post and the good news is that I was able to locate the correct bearing that was needed ;though of the 2 wheel horse dealers in the area couldn't help me nor a few parts stores ;so searching though the web I was able to find a company here that sells so many different bearings which had one ;so now I can put the unit back together and be able to mow again 'again thanks so much

3 pointsThanks Folks, got it with the pipe wrench method, did not have a strong enough chunk of web for the job. No damage to the output shaft when done as 953 nut suggested. Missed having my little tractor running...............it does a lot of work around this place.

3 pointsI have several rather steep areas on our property and have replaced the factory brake shoe lining with the ones @rmaynard sells, they are a big improvement. As John @wallfish mentioned the tire with the least traction will stop when the brakes are applied because the brakes are applied to the transmission and that is how the open differential distributes the forces.

2 pointsOnly one I've ever seen up close is my 1949 Ferguson. That has a pedal on each side of the tractor for independent usage.

2 points@ebinmaine there’s a lever that will likely rotate 100+ degrees inward that will unlock the brakes. During normal use, they’ll slow together. Unlocked, they are independent. It mirrors many large tractor pedal designs.

2 pointsHave you removed the rear wheels from the axle yet? They can be impossible to get off. Do not try to pull the wheel off the axle. You will pull the axle out of the transmission. You need to come up with a way to push the axle out of the wheel. That may include cutting it off. Used wheels may be hard to find because of this. If someone had the foresight to apply never-seize you may get lucky.

2 pointsHmmm... In the U.S., all C-121 tractors came from the factory with Kohler K-series engines with the "special" oil pan and mounting cradle that @Ed Kennell and @953 nut mentioned. Yours is a Magnum, and the "G" in the model number means that it has a tapered crankshaft for a generator application. So it looks like this maybe isn't the original engine? That wouldn't be a problem for me as long as it's in good shape, just thought it was interesting. Good luck selling it, looks like a good one!

2 pointsAt the water heater manufacturer I used to work at, they use larger drivers like these to spin the pipe nipples into the tanks. They are on pneumatic tools that have set torque specs to stop when the threads are tight.

2 points@Ed Kennell, now that you have a good mark on the axle where the set screw hits, grind or file a flat on it to prevent the upset metal from being a problem next time. I use a rust inhibitor on the axles, usually my go to is Rustlick 631. I'm not that opposed to Never Seez products but I have seen them turn into an unrecognizable dry sludge over time. The reason for the second set screw is that the axle to hub is a slip fit, meaning that the hole is slightly larger than the shaft. With one set screw the points of contact will be the set screw and the opposite side of the hub. With a second set screw those screws and the side opposite the mid point of the screws. Think of a three legged stool versus on with only two legs and you will begin to understand the benefit of the three point contact. The oil drain plug in the transmission often stands proud of the housing. I grind down the plug a small amount and tap the hole deeper to get it at least flush. Some implements do hit the plug,even if flush, so it is a good idea to cut some clearance in the implement.

2 pointsI think that's an excellent idea. Would you have reason to believe otherwise? To my knowledge Interstate has been a reputable company. I'd just as soon buy a battery from a high volume seller like Costco than a place where they set on the shelf.
