Was able to get a little time in the shop today, cleaned up a few more parts.

Was a nice day today. After my doctor's appointment I decided it was a good day to wake up the 1075. It hasn't been startered and driven all winter. Poured some gas in it, primed the fuel pump, choked it, turned the key and it fired right up. Had to put a little air in the front tires, I will look to replace them this spring. Really like this tractor. Short Frame, Big Block, Tall Stack, Custom Decals, Baby Moons, Wheel-A-Matic !!!

Boy has been racing motorcross so we picked up this 22’ toy hauler last year. Just right for a weekend stay.

Trust me when I say that your tractor is not running on fumes.

Just left his room so our Guardian Angel could go see him. Asks for her constantly. We are working on the next steps we need to take and eventually comes the fact that I need to cross the Atlantic again and leave him for a little while. This fact does not make things easier to reconcile in my mind or more importantly my conscience. My heart is literally being torn apart with this situation. I am even having difficulty keeping my mind and thoughts organized which is not a good thing. Spend countless hours talking to my wife and sons which due to all we have to do here and the time difference puts me going to sleep at 4AM here many times not even being able to do so. I sincerely appreciate all of you and your words of comfort ,understanding, and advice . It makes a big difference. I never imagined many years ago that the cute little red tractor was going to impact my life in such a manner and give so much more than what it was originally intended for. I have always been lucky like that and come across good people such as you in my life so I guess the tractor was just the means with which that was about to happen again.

If you are going to use one set screw on top of the other make sure you grind the point off the second screw. If you don't what happens is the point of the second screw enters the hex hole in the first screw and it very effectively flares the first screw so tight in the threads it can never be removed again.

Marketplace is killing me...I find a C-175 roller I must have! Upon inspection it has a 4 speed but the price is right. In order to stuff it in the back of my my Pathfinder, I drop the tranny and the 2 halves fit and I take it home. My plan is to make a round hood clone on a large frame but change direction after seeing it. Now with a stretched hood, two small Predators could fit but I'm unable to set the fan gear back without incorporating a chain set up, nix that idea. And a universal joint would not work. What I did next I highly recommend. I added a couple of flanges to the steering and now it is rock solid. It's better than building a strong tower. I highly recommend beefing up the steering. Next comes the drive train, body work or set it aside and find out why my K341AS will only start with a jump.

this is the set up I use on my kohler magnum engines , the check valve is a 5/16 " size , fits snugly into a 1/4 " ID , clear fuel line , use the dark green small squeeze clamps , also use super lube or a light swipe of dielectric grease on the valve end stubs , make it slide / screw on exactly size to size . I put this together before installation , makes it easy , the arrow should be vertically in the up position , between fuel pump and carb . that will trap a fuel charge for quick starts , of course if your fuel pump is weak , that will not help . but this makes for instant starts , and very little choke , pete

So did I mention I fired up my 1075 that's been sitting for a few months?

Try spraying some PB Blaster in the top end around the push button.

That fuel filter has gas in it but they usually trap some air because of the horizontal mounting, I like a clear filter so I can see if there is gas and how much dirt is trapped.

I have also walked this path with my late father who died from this terrible affliction Feb. 18, 2018. Be with him and love him and do all you can for him, even though he might act like he doesn't know what you are doing. My father was the kindness and most loving dad that anyone could have, but at the end he was not the same man outwardly but was still my dad, and I miss him every day. Cherish your moments with him while you can. This writing has helped me through this journey, hope that it also helps you. With sincere sympathy. Bob Blough Jr

Today's progress... Got a couple coils in the mail that can be used on this or other Kohler twins. I popped the alternator off and used 2 sheet metal screws to pry out the old crank seal. New seal in place. Flywheel on and torqued. Time to hand sand/plane the cylinder heads. Found a nice flat piece of steel. Taped 120 grit to it. I go about 60 or 80 strokes in a direction, turn 90⁰. Repeat. This is after a couple or three rounds. You can see the shiny spots where the paper is starting to cut in. This is after going roundy round for a bit. Still a bit to go... I'll run the 120 grit until very near all the old dark metal is gone. Switch to 220. Might do a round or 3 at 400 grit just for kicks. It really is time consuming and tiring but also satisfying knowing it'll be straight on once again.

I and the BBT went hiking yesterday with a friend. Burnt Meadow Mountain in Brownfield, Maine. Temp was about 25, 27 at the base. Some colder and more wind at the peak. Not a huge hill by our standards but a great start to the hiking season.

Had a visit with Lee1977 this evening. We welded up a mod to make a clevis hitch work with the tranny 'bolt on style' reciever hitch. He moved the lift arm to the outside, so it clears the receiver. ...and he let me use his new welder. I haven't stick welded for a while, but it works great! I'm out of practice, but some paint will help make it look better.

I have it on good authority an Onan will not run on fumes. If it's running fine it's getting copious quantities of gas. Accept the fact that you've fixed it and it's running fine. Take the win and celebrate.

Very good question. I would say that an engineer figured out that 5/8" input shaft was enough. But this is just a guess.
  23. 3 points
If the tractor is running, why worry about it?
  24. 3 points
Intrigued, and would like to hear the input on this. I would not think that there would or should be a difference. Are you sure that you received the correct piston? I have received incorrect parts that were in a correctly marked box.

Been working on a C machine wiring. I have a few of the old 104680 PTO switches that are hit and miss. Looking at a new one, in excess of $100 on the Tree. I came up dry for a new reasonable replacement. I decided to take one apart to see what was wrong and the video showed the result. Not finding much out there on these switches but this repair just might buy some time.

@Maxwell-8 , are you going to put a couple of flange bearings on that shaft ? get some lucas grease on that steering fan gear area ,especially the bottom stub end fit as well as related linkage , and front axel center mount and wheels off the floor greasing for top grease release, in addition to wheel bearing pack . make that battery related ground bolt point , your add on cable to engine corner , serrated washer , and electrical bolt lug , to be your ignition and headlight grounding source . very simple , but very reliable . just telling you what I do , ( you don,t have to ) to make things work . pete

That's my neck of the woods. I believe I'm related to this Alfred Ames. My great grandmother was an Ames. I have canoed the Machias River. To this day there is still logs that are stuck in the bottom of the river and protrude the surface call "saw bobs" My grandfather was a logger for most his life and floated logs in that river. The train tracks mentioned have now been decommissioned and are now the Sunrise Trail. It's for recreational use. ATV/UTV, foot, bicycle, horse,, and snowmobile traffic. The ship "Lucy Evelyn" mentioned was built right here in Harrington. Along with SEVERAL others. I believe it was built for the Frye family. As a boy my father and local kids had a rope swing for swimming attached to the mast of an old ship that was beached at the ship yard. The mast has fallen and the shipyard gone due to a fire decades ago.

haha, tried mine for the first time yesterday I really need to make me a dust collector, in seconds you can't see a thing.

Made the dust collector shown below. Low dollar and works extremely well. Collector will have dirt in it, Shopvac will be empty. Have put a quite a few hours run time with this system.

Never having any experience or any interaction with anyone with this condition, it is very confusing if not disturbing dealing with it. The constant back and forth switching from reality to non reality within a second and without any warning is a devastating thing to watch. All of that with such a “ normality” that I sometimes even wonder if I am just not getting the conversation. Incredibly many times in the reality moments it is like he knows that his mind was just before lost somewhere else and brings up important things such as where the will is and where the properties deeds are located. All of that always with a sense of urgency and even panic. Like telling me all he can before he no longer can come back to reality. This is an absolute devastating thing to watch . I have never felt so helpless in my life. I have always been able to help many people in my life and improve or help with their difficulties from my wife’s illness to a son’s addiction being the most important ones , but there is nothing that I can do to help my father with this. It’s very hard to witness this happening as I look in his eyes.

Backyard hammer mechanic quick fix suggestion. No expensive machining or replacement parts. The axles and hubs are already damaged anyway so... Still leaves a way to remove them for any future service if necessary. Do 2 holes 180 deg apart if you're so inclined but I wouldn't do any new holes near the existing key location.

So far the go to solution for me is a simple primer bulb. They have check valves in them too as that's how they work to push fuel forward. Instant starts and if it sits for a very long time (Like over the entire summer) just a couple squeezes and it's ready to go. No squeezes necessary if it sits for a week or 2. I've tried those little check valves too and didn't have much luck either and especially so after it was sitting for a longer while. My guess is gas can seep past the little ball bearing seal inside. If it sits for months or if the tank is drained then it's a problem cranking the starter for a long time to start them. A little check valve isn't going to help with that when the tank was drained or empty. If that hard start doesn't happen then that is a good sign the fuel pump is working well and therefore the check valves in that pump are holding good, so no extra check valves are needed anyway. Once a fuel pump has failed or not working very well because the check valves inside the pump aren't sealing, then I go to the electric pumps. No grease or anything on my done dry fuel line connections and they're still very easy to do with a nice tight seal.

It probably just looks empty. If gas was not passing through it, it would not run at all.

Oh, my... well... in that case... THAT isn't an option.... Costs roughly 5 dollars for a tube here in the states... Don

I will be having central spots true out the tractor for grounds and power. I am now in the fabrication stadium, then everything will be striped, sandblasted and painted. I am then going to do a full custom rewire, with 120A connectors in the front and rear for accessories. I already have a 470CCA battery for the big diesel, Wasn't sure a U1 would be up for the task. It will still be mounted in the original location. Now that I have a 52Ah battery that has plenty of power to run a winch. So I am steering towards installing a winch under the hood.

I mounted up the TINY rear pulley and installed another idler into the hydraulic pump slots for fine tuning adjustments. Remember, the slack in the belt gets taken up by the clutch action squeezing together. I also found the clutch spring is broken. Hmm. Stronger spring? Higher stall? Maybe the cams in the clutch have to do with that too…

Just use keyed shaft. It's either 3/4 (older) or 7/8, so measure it if you're not sure. Here's one place to find it but a web search may find it cheaper https://www.surpluscenter.com/Power-Transmission/Shafting/Keyed-Shafting/?page_no=1&fq=ATR_PowerTransOutsideDiameter:3/4\"

It is the oldest association in WI. It was formed for the purpose that is in it's name. Horse thieving was a big issue at the time. One example : During the Civil War horses were stolen by civilian's and sold to the US & Confederate army's. Nepeuskun is the home of the Nepeuskun Anti-Horse Thieves Association established in 1859 as a precaution against the theft of that era’s most useful animal. On Dec. 5, 1889 the group was chartered, which was one of the first corporations established and registered with the State of Wisconsin. Its duties were to help track down stolen horses and the people who took them and turn them over to local authorities. These days not many horses are stolen but the association still holds its meeting/dinner once a year on the third Thursday in January. The main course on the menu is oyster stew. This is not a serious gathering for the nearly 100 member group. However, they have a sheriff and horse retrieving committee just in case. Humor plays a big role for members of the organization, which charges $2 for a lifetime membership and you don't need a horse to join. https://www.riponpress.com/editorial/column/column-140-years-later-the-horse-thieves-group-s-event-is-stew-enjoyed/article_7499e3b0-d008-5658-bd54-7da2bc025eb3.html

This is one of those topics that could go sideways real fast. Which is to say; yes, and it’s only getting going in earnest, and that’s why I’m stockpiling Wheel Horses as an inflation hedge! My wife doesn’t believe that, oddly enough.

I had to take my dad from his home due to the same type of illness, that was about the toughest day of my life. Just know that you are doing the best you can and take some comfort in that.

I can relate… Just visited my 95 year old Dad… memory is gone… same story discussed 3-4 times… then out of the blue he tells us obscure facts / stories from 50 years ago… then doesn’t remember if he ate lunch… But… Time spent with them at this point is a beautiful thing… simply accompanying them knowing there’s really nothing that you can do to “fix” it… just walk with them through it… Your presence there matters…

Thank you all for the condolences. Mom was a very fun person with a good heart who will be greatly missed. She put up with as well as instigated a lot of fun stuff in her life time. Today she joins her favorite partner in crime, my Dad. They were married for 65yrs before my dad's passing. I've been preparing myself for this misfortune for some time but it still isn't easy.
