Was able to get a little time in the shop today, cleaned up a few more parts.

Was a nice day today. After my doctor's appointment I decided it was a good day to wake up the 1075. It hasn't been startered and driven all winter. Poured some gas in it, primed the fuel pump, choked it, turned the key and it fired right up. Had to put a little air in the front tires, I will look to replace them this spring. Really like this tractor. Short Frame, Big Block, Tall Stack, Custom Decals, Baby Moons, Wheel-A-Matic !!!

Boy has been racing motorcross so we picked up this 22’ toy hauler last year. Just right for a weekend stay.

Trust me when I say that your tractor is not running on fumes.

Just left his room so our Guardian Angel could go see him. Asks for her constantly. We are working on the next steps we need to take and eventually comes the fact that I need to cross the Atlantic again and leave him for a little while. This fact does not make things easier to reconcile in my mind or more importantly my conscience. My heart is literally being torn apart with this situation. I am even having difficulty keeping my mind and thoughts organized which is not a good thing. Spend countless hours talking to my wife and sons which due to all we have to do here and the time difference puts me going to sleep at 4AM here many times not even being able to do so. I sincerely appreciate all of you and your words of comfort ,understanding, and advice . It makes a big difference. I never imagined many years ago that the cute little red tractor was going to impact my life in such a manner and give so much more than what it was originally intended for. I have always been lucky like that and come across good people such as you in my life so I guess the tractor was just the means with which that was about to happen again.

If you are going to use one set screw on top of the other make sure you grind the point off the second screw. If you don't what happens is the point of the second screw enters the hex hole in the first screw and it very effectively flares the first screw so tight in the threads it can never be removed again.

Marketplace is killing me...I find a C-175 roller I must have! Upon inspection it has a 4 speed but the price is right. In order to stuff it in the back of my my Pathfinder, I drop the tranny and the 2 halves fit and I take it home. My plan is to make a round hood clone on a large frame but change direction after seeing it. Now with a stretched hood, two small Predators could fit but I'm unable to set the fan gear back without incorporating a chain set up, nix that idea. And a universal joint would not work. What I did next I highly recommend. I added a couple of flanges to the steering and now it is rock solid. It's better than building a strong tower. I highly recommend beefing up the steering. Next comes the drive train, body work or set it aside and find out why my K341AS will only start with a jump.

this is the set up I use on my kohler magnum engines , the check valve is a 5/16 " size , fits snugly into a 1/4 " ID , clear fuel line , use the dark green small squeeze clamps , also use super lube or a light swipe of dielectric grease on the valve end stubs , make it slide / screw on exactly size to size . I put this together before installation , makes it easy , the arrow should be vertically in the up position , between fuel pump and carb . that will trap a fuel charge for quick starts , of course if your fuel pump is weak , that will not help . but this makes for instant starts , and very little choke , pete

So did I mention I fired up my 1075 that's been sitting for a few months?
  12. 4 points
Try spraying some PB Blaster in the top end around the push button.
  13. 4 points
That fuel filter has gas in it but they usually trap some air because of the horizontal mounting, I like a clear filter so I can see if there is gas and how much dirt is trapped.

I have also walked this path with my late father who died from this terrible affliction Feb. 18, 2018. Be with him and love him and do all you can for him, even though he might act like he doesn't know what you are doing. My father was the kindness and most loving dad that anyone could have, but at the end he was not the same man outwardly but was still my dad, and I miss him every day. Cherish your moments with him while you can. This writing has helped me through this journey, hope that it also helps you. With sincere sympathy. Bob Blough Jr

Today's progress... Got a couple coils in the mail that can be used on this or other Kohler twins. I popped the alternator off and used 2 sheet metal screws to pry out the old crank seal. New seal in place. Flywheel on and torqued. Time to hand sand/plane the cylinder heads. Found a nice flat piece of steel. Taped 120 grit to it. I go about 60 or 80 strokes in a direction, turn 90⁰. Repeat. This is after a couple or three rounds. You can see the shiny spots where the paper is starting to cut in. This is after going roundy round for a bit. Still a bit to go... I'll run the 120 grit until very near all the old dark metal is gone. Switch to 220. Might do a round or 3 at 400 grit just for kicks. It really is time consuming and tiring but also satisfying knowing it'll be straight on once again.

I and the BBT went hiking yesterday with a friend. Burnt Meadow Mountain in Brownfield, Maine. Temp was about 25, 27 at the base. Some colder and more wind at the peak. Not a huge hill by our standards but a great start to the hiking season.

Had a visit with Lee1977 this evening. We welded up a mod to make a clevis hitch work with the tranny 'bolt on style' reciever hitch. He moved the lift arm to the outside, so it clears the receiver. ...and he let me use his new welder. I haven't stick welded for a while, but it works great! I'm out of practice, but some paint will help make it look better.

I have it on good authority an Onan will not run on fumes. If it's running fine it's getting copious quantities of gas. Accept the fact that you've fixed it and it's running fine. Take the win and celebrate.

Very good question. I would say that an engineer figured out that 5/8" input shaft was enough. But this is just a guess.
  23. 3 points
If the tractor is running, why worry about it?
  24. 3 points
Intrigued, and would like to hear the input on this. I would not think that there would or should be a difference. Are you sure that you received the correct piston? I have received incorrect parts that were in a correctly marked box.

Been working on a C machine wiring. I have a few of the old 104680 PTO switches that are hit and miss. Looking at a new one, in excess of $100 on the Tree. I came up dry for a new reasonable replacement. I decided to take one apart to see what was wrong and the video showed the result. Not finding much out there on these switches but this repair just might buy some time.

@Maxwell-8 , are you going to put a couple of flange bearings on that shaft ? get some lucas grease on that steering fan gear area ,especially the bottom stub end fit as well as related linkage , and front axel center mount and wheels off the floor greasing for top grease release, in addition to wheel bearing pack . make that battery related ground bolt point , your add on cable to engine corner , serrated washer , and electrical bolt lug , to be your ignition and headlight grounding source . very simple , but very reliable . just telling you what I do , ( you don,t have to ) to make things work . pete

That's my neck of the woods. I believe I'm related to this Alfred Ames. My great grandmother was an Ames. I have canoed the Machias River. To this day there is still logs that are stuck in the bottom of the river and protrude the surface call "saw bobs" My grandfather was a logger for most his life and floated logs in that river. The train tracks mentioned have now been decommissioned and are now the Sunrise Trail. It's for recreational use. ATV/UTV, foot, bicycle, horse,, and snowmobile traffic. The ship "Lucy Evelyn" mentioned was built right here in Harrington. Along with SEVERAL others. I believe it was built for the Frye family. As a boy my father and local kids had a rope swing for swimming attached to the mast of an old ship that was beached at the ship yard. The mast has fallen and the shipyard gone due to a fire decades ago.

haha, tried mine for the first time yesterday I really need to make me a dust collector, in seconds you can't see a thing.

Made the dust collector shown below. Low dollar and works extremely well. Collector will have dirt in it, Shopvac will be empty. Have put a quite a few hours run time with this system.

Never having any experience or any interaction with anyone with this condition, it is very confusing if not disturbing dealing with it. The constant back and forth switching from reality to non reality within a second and without any warning is a devastating thing to watch. All of that with such a “ normality” that I sometimes even wonder if I am just not getting the conversation. Incredibly many times in the reality moments it is like he knows that his mind was just before lost somewhere else and brings up important things such as where the will is and where the properties deeds are located. All of that always with a sense of urgency and even panic. Like telling me all he can before he no longer can come back to reality. This is an absolute devastating thing to watch . I have never felt so helpless in my life. I have always been able to help many people in my life and improve or help with their difficulties from my wife’s illness to a son’s addiction being the most important ones , but there is nothing that I can do to help my father with this. It’s very hard to witness this happening as I look in his eyes.

Backyard hammer mechanic quick fix suggestion. No expensive machining or replacement parts. The axles and hubs are already damaged anyway so... Still leaves a way to remove them for any future service if necessary. Do 2 holes 180 deg apart if you're so inclined but I wouldn't do any new holes near the existing key location.

To work in a comfy height, i do a lot of searches for a lift Platform. It should be able up to 3 Tons, it should be relatively low pricey, it should fit my needs. Than someday‘s a fella ask me, if i can help him to rework a Electric on a older Carlift from his friend, they moved it and since it will not work anymore. This Platform was set outside for few years. When i firstly have a look on her the whole electric was trash. The Motor is damaged, not sure if it will work further. The mechanic was hard rusted but not to dead, but a lot of rework is needed. i told him what i think about the Lift and 2 Weeks later he asked me if i like to have it. His friend get another one. That was the Start of this „ in between“ Project. I don‘t hesitate and tell him yes, i want it. We moved the disassembled lift on Max Trailer and the Astra have to bring it home. today i begin the Rework of the basement of the Lift The Base i started with.. The whole Steel is 40years old but it is just derust it with the Grinder... Turn it back to plain Metal. Where the paint will stay, i let it be. than it get a new coat of Rustprevention at least i reworked today the Chain spanner, what was totally rusted. New chain is ordered, new Safety cable is today delivered, even so Motor and VFD.

It's a stretch. They also offer them in 1/4 .... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C3PD06K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Looks like their out of them tho. @formariz commented on them awhile back so what the heck try anything once. I'm on the fence about them unless I got some bad ones. Three 520s with them and all start dry after a sit. A shot of sniffin salts is in order if they sat along time and away they go tho. I put it in just before the pulse pump but @cschannuth's 520 It's after the pump so location does not matter unless it should be way down by the tank Now @dclarke's 520 he's got one of them newfangled electric jobbys on it. Turn the key and wait maybe 15 seconds and listen for the pump to load up and she fires right off. No check valves here. Makes me a believer in E pumps that's fer sure. How does this not surprise us?!?!?

I’m I the shop doing some investigations…. Suspected cam and lifter failure. Dealer quoted $1200 for confirmation of diagnosis only. as I was pushing this one in today, someone called offering me $2,200 to swap engines in his 2010 3500 Duramax. Business is good this week!

The three I have show no part number or rating. Just CH, I figure Cutler Hammer. Looked until I was tired of looking. lol I find a lot of STDP switches but all are toggle type. Not much out there in snap style. It the repair doesn't hold up, I might use wisker style and double stack them. ?? Those are $7. Just can't understand why they don't last 50 years....only 40! I did find these interesting

TANK SCREENS SUCK. when I find em clogged on customer atvs mowers etc, I can em and install a good quality inline unit. serviceable and peace of mind. if you really ant to keep the fuel clean going in, use a neck strainer. they come in all sizes and wont interfere with the fuel cap. I make most of mine, buy em when i dont have time. Ive found that the same ones that come on the cheap power generators work very well. make sure your pump is up to snuff as well. my 310-8 is going for a trailer ride to the shop as soon as I can get a couple client atvs out. tank clog showed up after that last bout of snow . had to call in a plow.. Tank filter bye bye and some new lines.. gonna do some more practicing on what Im preachin.....

(1)Before you take the starter apart, make a couple scribe marks on each end cap to assure correct orientation upon reassembly. (2) Don't hammer the sides for any reason...field magnets are brittle. (3)Trim an old Credit Card to use in retaining the 4 brushes for reassembly. (4) have a coffee can filled with kerosene to THOROUGHLY rinse parts...blow dry with compressed air. (5) 5 or 6 Coors on ice is a necessary tool.

Well, the bottom line with the words "bad knock" is ... youre gonna HAVE to go in there and find the problem before the engine is damaged beyond repair. There are 2-3 reasons for a bad knock and all need quick diagnosis. Usually a "bad" knock is the rod being worn and if run will come loose and ..... it can be ugly! These engines are relatively easy to pull and take the head and pan off for an inspection, this will tell you quickly if it is the rod, - or less likely the piston.

What if you made a winch mount/box that would also be your hood stand? (Where your spacer box is now) The winch would be mounted directly below the front of the hood to the frame for strength and place your battery in a box that is held in the Attachamatic bracket below it.

Hey Formaitz, sent some prayers to you again. The hardest and most important thing you have to do is give emotional support to your father. That's the biggest challenge, because regardless of how tough you are, it's extremely exhausting. The thing is, what you have called "changing waking moments" makes this scenario so difficult to believe and understand. Be careful that his Alzheimer's disease doesn't exhaust you too much or even throw you out of life. I know this may sound unfair or selfish, but it definitely isn't. You have to protect a part of yourself too, or your Alzheimer's will destroy a lot of you too. You won't believe it or want to hear it at first, but what causes it in you can be worse in the long run. you feel like you're being eaten alive. The helplessness at that time and the circumstances of this illness drive you almost crazy, This is also normal and one of the reasons why you have to protect yourself to a certain extent. I know that may sound unfair and wrong, maybe that's why some people think I'm a bastard or even an idiot, but we learned it the hard way after Kati's father died.

If you are able to make that screen change shape with air pressure, I'm going to take a guess & say that it is plugged. Air or fluid should pass through that screen as easily as air through a window screen. Pull the valve out & either clean the screen with some brake cleaner or rip it off & let the in line filter do its job.

We had to learn it the hard Way at Katy’s Dad, how Hard the final stadium of Alzheimer is. Words can not describe how hard it is to understand and accept of what that means in real. It is even more extremely hard to accept it emotionally. The head recognizes what is happen, but the heart couldn‘t accept it. It is impossible to describe what you feel inside when you see it growing. I hope it will give you some strenght in that Hard times.
