Dan's @Achto mom peacefully passed away today. She was ninety two and had a good life. She was always in attendance at most of our regular shows and always a hoot to talk to. She loved to tell us about her days working at the cookie factory. I asked her once what was her secret to longevity was and she replied "two beers at night" Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Here’s a special one to me. My Dad’s 78 C-161 after it sat in his basement for 8 years. And then a few days later after spit and polish, a battery, tune up, fluids, painted wheels, etc. And how it looks today:

To work in a comfy height, i do a lot of searches for a lift Platform. It should be able up to 3 Tons, it should be relatively low pricey, it should fit my needs. Than someday‘s a fella ask me, if i can help him to rework a Electric on a older Carlift from his friend, they moved it and since it will not work anymore. This Platform was set outside for few years. When i firstly have a look on her the whole electric was trash. The Motor is damaged, not sure if it will work further. The mechanic was hard rusted but not to dead, but a lot of rework is needed. i told him what i think about the Lift and 2 Weeks later he asked me if i like to have it. His friend get another one. That was the Start of this „ in between“ Project. I don‘t hesitate and tell him yes, i want it. We moved the disassembled lift on Max Trailer and the Astra have to bring it home. today i begin the Rework of the basement of the Lift The Base i started with.. The whole Steel is 40years old but it is just derust it with the Grinder... Turn it back to plain Metal. Where the paint will stay, i let it be. than it get a new coat of Rustprevention at least i reworked today the Chain spanner, what was totally rusted. New chain is ordered, new Safety cable is today delivered, even so Motor and VFD.

So. The local dealer near me has this new old stock 2016 model 42in RD mower deck. It cost me $1,500 bucks but this type of thing in my opinion doesn’t happen often. So I grabbed it and brought it home today. First time in all of my time dealing with wheelhorses, do I have something brand new..

Here’s my GT-1800 I bought new in 1984, used commercially for my mowing business I had for 8 years. I wish it had an hour meter, I know damn well it has over 2000 hours on it by now. I don’t really have too many before pictures, just plenty after I restored it.

Thanks EB! I used Terry 25 years ago during the first restoration of my 78 C-101. It's time again! Got to make her purdy for the Big Show! My first trip

@cschannuth I have said it before and I’ll say it again, you might have the nicest C-161 Twin 8-Speed in the country! I have Twin Automatic that I inherited but it’s definitely not as yours! I always like to see pictures of it 👍🏻

Hello all garden tractor enthusiasts! I pray you are all in good spirits and health. Today I am in Rockford and have been blessed with the privilege of meeting a man who has meticulously maintained this fine example of equipment. Purchased new in 1974 and sold to me today. Paint is original, hard to believe but it is. Ag tires are factory filled with fluid. Has original turf tires front and rear. Engine replacement done November of 1999 with factory replacement Kohler NOS. Leaf collection system and deck been off since engine replacement. Tractor was parked in 2000 and been used 6 times since 2015 with snow blower. Tractor Serial number is 000325. This is the cleanest Garden tractor I own now and probably will use it in large yards with no trees and no landscaping! LoL 😂. Other than that it's parade ready and will be bringing it to shows. Deck will be degreased and lightly used occasionally. Need to find wheel weights, 3pt hitch and tiller for aesthetic purposes. Thank you all for reading and be positive!

I should have taken more pictures but here’s what I have. I stripped everything down to bare metal, three coats of primer three coats of color and three coats of clear. I don’t mean to highjack this thread but hey you asked for it😂😂

I picked up a work bench at the auction. I needed one for my two Grand Nephews when they come to visit. It was missing a wrench, so I had to muster all my limited woodworking skills to make a wrench.

That was @BOB ELLISON, I understand that @wheelhorseman is going to pick up the seat business that Bob started.

I want to build a subsoiler but I couldn't figure out how to make it strong enough to be useful without a top center link. I also don't want to damage the rear end. I got my inspiration from Dick's @953 nutthread with his narrow front end 953.

Spent some time in the shop today degreasing parts & then running them through the blast cabinet. Nothing real exciting to show, just a pail full of parts that are ready for paint.

Thank you all for the condolences. Mom was a very fun person with a good heart who will be greatly missed. She put up with as well as instigated a lot of fun stuff in her life time. Today she joins her favorite partner in crime, my Dad. They were married for 65yrs before my dad's passing. I've been preparing myself for this misfortune for some time but it still isn't easy.

In the cab of the IH. Lyle was her husband whom I had never met, he passed in '14 or so before I married Dan. He was a collector of both big and small and thankfully his small but eloquent collection has been passed down to Dan and his brothers.

Hmmm... A Raider that needs an engine? Just for thought- 4hp is enough to drive it around, and there is enough room under the hood for 18-20hp if you have an opposed twin. Of course every K-series or Magnum single cylinder (except the K-361) will fit nicely. And THAT young man, would be a project. Repowers are great fun in my opinion, and not nearly as hard as you may think.

Good to have a backup tractor. Every tractor should have a backup, therefore it is an endless process of obtaining a backup for the last tractor you bought as a backup to the previous tractor, which was a backup to ..........

Thanks, I think I’ve mentioned it on here before but my dad was very, very particular with his stuff. He bought a boat brand new in 1967 and when I got it from him 40 years later it still almost looked like new. My mom always joked that he took the fun out of using the boat because he never let anybody have any fun with it. He would follow people around with a damp rag and wipe off everything they touched, ha ha. Some of that rubbed off on me and now I’m driving my family crazy.

Relax kid. These guys are trying to give you advice and pointers on cleaning out the fuel system or carb on your Onan. That’s it! If your garage is unsafe right now then let the machine sit till it is safe. Or…haul it to a reputable shop and have it straightened out. Your call to make. In the future don’t take that tone with the guys who are offering you their knowledge and experience. And you won’t have to threaten to leave the forum because I will show you the door! If you have an issue with ANYTHING I have said send me a PM and we will straighten it out quick. None of the Admins or Moderators (or the membership) are interested in you airing out any personal issues on the forum as you have done in the past.

After indulging in the contents, 🍺🍺🍺🤪, the empty cans cut open and flattened make nice thin shim material, (aluminium/aluminum). I also like the, J.D. (Non Green & Yellow), (especially the Honey flavoured). 🥃🥃🥃🤪🤪, but I haven’t found a use for the empty bottles yet😢. (Except as an incentive to buy another full one)👍.

Hi all, I'm starting the repair, restoration of my 312-8 with some modifications to fix some of the short comings that I have discovered over the 30 years use. Starting with the worn out steering, I replaced the stamped steel bearing holding the front of the lower shaft with a greasable ball bearing. With no room for a larger unit in it's original location, I moved the new bearing unit to the front of the crossmember and turned out & shrunk fit a "snout" on the lower shaft in order to extend it through the crossmember. I made an adaptor plate that bolts to the original frame holes. I sourced a "very nice" 520 lower steering shaft from Shuboxlover for this, as I'm adding a 520 swept axle with no steering reduction.

Had plenty of things to do outside today, but the Oklahoma wind had other ideas. So instead I spent the afternoon in the basement workshop building a set of skids to display my Maytag Twin. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, considering this was my first set of these to build.

Been about a week and a tough one at that. Two hospitals later and physical recovery is going ok from the heart, pneumonia issues. Unfortunately Alzheimer’s has shown its cruel presence arriving uninvited, quickly , and relentlessly. The decline from day to day is hard to comprehend. He can no longer be independent and left on his own. Tough hard to make choices and decisions riddled with feelings of guilt , confusion and heartache. He has a young woman who has been his caretaker for the past ten years starting with Mom back then. I have no idea what I would have done without her now. An incredible example of what a good decent kind human being she is. This is also taking a terrible emotional toll on her for this really stopped being a job for her many years ago. We are blessed to have her in our lives .

How are you planning on pulling it off? If you use a puller that uses bolts that thread into the face of the pulley, sink them in good and you can probably pull off that pulley with the screw still in there. I've done it a bunch of times on AHU pullies that the screws are rounded or seized. Takes more power but it will come off. Clean up the crank the best you can and when you get the engine running, Leave the pulley off and sand the shaft smooth with emery.

Had to flatten out the round ends of the cotter pins in the tops of the Work Horse spindles so that my dust caps would slide past. Didn’t want the new dust caps being torn up by the cotters when I turn

@jeepdan love those flanged bearings , as you build up , build out chronic problems , firm up all your linkage spots , or change over to HEIM JOINTS on threaded rod points, use lucas x-tra heavy duty chassis grease every ware , read the specs , makes bearing issues go away . would also bolt on ELECTRICAL LUGS , to frame for wire connection runs , ensuring solid ground points . lots more areas to correct , make your wire runs , smooth and easy lay out , use cable wrap , and nylon hangers to support , dielectric grease every connection , enhance battery ground bolt to frame , as main tractor ground point , very easy and it works , consistently, connect it to those electrical lugs . good luck with it , question ? just ask , pete

That is the best advice for any of us. If you repair ANYTHING on another person's machine any future problems (totally unrelated to the repair you did) are your fault. "It ran just fine until you messed with it". You fixed the headlight and two weeks later the transmission started making a strange noise, it must be your fault!

@ranger excellent reuse of materials… So when you go to the store you tell SWMBO: “Hey Honey, I’m going to pick up some more shims for the …!” love it!

Had to take a break from a K241 disassembly project so the boy and I hit the woods for some 22 plinking and a tailgate lunch. It was a good call!

This might be true however, with today inflation amount; that $1,800 tractor would be worth about 8k today.. and today you can’t buy a tractor like the wheel horses unless you go into a diesel subcompact. It’s worth to me investing in these old machine with new parts because it’s still way cheaper than a 10-15k sub compact or Deere x700 series. Plus the attachments can be used across 40years of tractors, and I now have 7 attachments.

Just an FYI,, you can drill the rivets out that hold the pulley together. The bearing is a few $ at NAPA oy your favorite bearing Supply. Bolt it back together with small screws and locktite the nuts.

I got the height adjustment chain between the bell crank and lift bar reinstalled… and I KNOW, I KNOW, the old bolt and nut is a little rusty where it bolts to the lift bar… this is going to be a worker, I’m a little slack, and this is the greasy side !…

So I have the toe-in adjusted… 1/8th inch wider between the backside of the tires compared to the front…

I went yesterday. It's a good show to get rid of some cabin-fever. Nice display of full-size and garden tractors, of all makes. Saw enough nice Wheel Horses to make me want to get out to the workshop and work of some of mine. Kate from Garden Tractor Magazine and A-Z Tractor (parts) were there. Not a huge show, but good if you're not too far away and you want to get 'primed' for spring. Sorry I didn't get pictures. Jim
