12 pointsSnowing now too. Leaving to airport at 3. Going to do some plowing after test which will be at 10.30. Beginning to have lots of concerns with leaving my wife alone even though there is plenty of help for her.. The life of an immigrant, thousands of miles apart from family . Staying close to your kids and family is the best advice I can give everyone.

11 pointsNope fishing for old glory.... this thread is gonna go 40 pages before we have a driving tractor might as well help out! Not exactly the hole of death this year. Bloody Marys pretty tasty tho

10 pointsStarted on this years winter project. Thought that some of you might like to come along for the ride. I'll start with some ground zero pictures. Ain't that seat purty? I knew that the hitch pin on this tractor was going to be big a challenge. It was brown welded like nobodies business. This is where I decided to start my adventure. First I used a Sawzall to cut the pin on each side to remove the hitch. Then I drilled a hole into the pin and tapped it to 1/2" 13 threads. With internal threads in the pin I was able to use a make shift puller to draw the pin out. Tighten the bolt, hit the pin with a drift on the opposite side, get another 1/4 turn on the bolt, hit with a hammer, repeat..... More progress. Closer. And finally a WIN!! This took up my first 2.5hrs of the day.

10 pointsSo I've been mulling over the front grille situation. I got this old generator from @Oldskool Mike a year or 3 ago. The Head of Tractor and Machinery Design has mentioned using the radiator shell as the grille for Colossus. The size would be about right. The base is around 10" across. 15"+/- wide. 24" tall. Thoughts comments questions suggestions opinions?

9 pointsWith the pin removed from the tranny I was finally able to move on. When I went to pull this tractor out of storage the rear end was locked up. A little time with a heater pointed at it and it was able to move, Wonder if this had any thing to do with it?? Not sure why this was not done at the factory. I drilled & tapped two holes in the brake hub so that a puller could be used to remove it. I did the same thing for the pulley on the input shaft. Found some PO um "customizing" to clean up. After a few trials and tribulations, I was still able to get the tractor broken down by the end of my day. Here's a familiar pitch. "Ran when parked"

9 pointsWe all know how upset @WHX?? gets about people drilling holes in 50+ year old metal. To make him feel better I saved the drill shavings and the old hitch pin for him.

8 points29F and 4 inches of fresh snow this AM made for 2 hours of seat time plowing the neighborhood. Warm and dry in the heated cab. Happy Valentines Day

8 pointsDigging this one back out...with colder weather setting in here I've been doing a little more burning again this year. Making a set of Wheel Horse coasters for a good friend and fellow collector (and probably make another set for myself as well). Also started on this engine to hang with the rest of my tractor and engine related works in my home office

8 pointsWe had a similar day….spent a couple hours with my 867, messed with the rear hubs. Only diff, mine was in one piece at the end of the day

7 pointsI warned him Dino.... said just do a reveal but nnnnoooo.....these gonna have it up to 100 pages before ya know it! If I was Dan I'd let this one go to the basement for while and keep the bozos in supense. We'll maybe a few teasers every now and then..... I was hopin he was gonna show a 753 some love this year but an 867 works too.

7 pointsHad to change plug and boost battery to start the B-80 in 15 degrees! It was 12 most of the night and my garage is not heated. Trailer was frozen! Rammed it loose! Then couldn’t move on front hitch so put on rear and was able to move. Cold! All of this to get ready to head south to Florida Flywheelers next week.

7 pointsHello All, Well it was so nice today in CT that I just grabbed my toolbox and dove into a project I've been thinking about. I bought a "beater" 310-8 at the "Big Show" last year for cheap money. Somebody had sprayed the entire tractor with Iron Oxide primer which faded to pink. They also replaced the Magnum 10 with a 1960s K301 (12 hp). Well that motor ended up being REALLY tired and today it was pulled and a Mag 10 was put back out of another 310 with a wrecked gearbox and broken off lift arm. I got this tractor off my friend Claude who used to tinker with tractors. He passed a few months ago. This tractor has been sitting at my house at least 2 years. After I swapped it over and hooked up the electrical and fuel it started like it was running yesterday. I also didn't break off any of the bolts holding the tins on!!!! Everything went perfect... even the drive pulley slid off the tired 301 like it was coated in butter. She runs good and the 310 is alot healthier now, I also swapped out the tins for some decent originals. Yah Claude cobbled a Craftsman seat and a Murray seat pan onto the tractor that donated the Magnum. He was good at using what he had. I re-used his setup just because it reminds me of the good times I had drinking Bud Light and turning wrenches with him---he was always scared to adjust valves. It was my job lol Tony 20220212_154232.mp4

6 pointsThank you everyone for the words of comfort. It really means a lot. At airport now waiting for my flight . Boarding in one hour. Will be then 7 hours of flight and then an additional 3 hours if driving.
-
6 pointsHere is my 1997 416H. It is just shy of 1000 hours. I'm going to clean up a little bit tonight and should crack the milestone. I purchased this in 2006 for my .5 acre property with a beat up short chute blower with about 675 hours. It seemed like it was maintained decently before I got it. I repainted it in about 2008 with left over car paint for my Grand AM (Fire Red or something) . It's held up well over the years. Any problems I've had, I've gotten great advice from members here on Red Square. Most recently the ignition module under the flywheel. Big job, but not too bad. I've also been fortunate to get a tall chute snow blower (from a member that will recognize it) and a 2 stage blower and 48" plow from local advertising. These machines do everything I ask and more with relatively cheap maintenance and repair. I'm hoping to find another low hour "twin" package sometime to join this one and last another 25 years.

6 pointsJust an observation @Horse Newbie, your page count on this thread is catching up with @ebinmaine’s Colossus build thread… people are gonna start to talk… and then you’ll need to make up sunset threads, wood chopping threads, gardening threads and such to divert attention… Make wise choices…

6 pointsA ❤️ Haiku de Wheel Horse… Most roses are red Most Wheel Horses are red too I’ll take the Wheel Horse
-
6 pointsDoes Trina sew too? I'm think'n this should be the same outfit you should wear for the maiden voyage ride! Might distract from the whole wheel horse theme thing though

6 pointsDads rj hasn’t ran in probably 10 years at least. I knew it needed carb work so I took it to our local dealer(used to be wheel horse dealer) and they treated me right on the work. Got it home today and my dad took my son for a ride! Need to get the tombstone weight on it and get it washed!

5 points@rjg854 Yes it could, but Karl does not like to delete things and besides, it is a pain in the butt to clean that much up. It would be better for Dan to do his whole resto and then start his thread with all of his information. I've done this a few times in my Transmission threads for this reason.
-
5 pointsThe real problem is...nobody is going to read 25 pages of junk to see how Dan did some of the things he does. That is the problem with these large threads. Lots of good information is lost in the junk and gone forever. A thread like this is never going to get into the reference section.

5 pointsYep, picked up two subs on the way home from breakfast. Gotta root for any team to beat a team from California. Hope I don't fall asleep and miss it. Go USA Hockey.....now there's a team worth watching.

5 pointsThis is the inside of a Kohler K341 with 996 hours. I did not clean a thing before this picture was taken. You can see it's almost spotless inside. It was running fine but had a loose balance gear and a broken piston skirt. I have had this for 10 years and 8 of them have been on Rotella 30W and a pinch of zinc additive. The engine has been bored and rebuilt. Camshaft and lifters were fine. I don't think zinc is all that to be worried about.

-
5 pointsTaking care of it the way you do I would say it will make another 1000 with no problem. I have a single 12 and it is still going strong. It does use a tad bit of oil now a days. Over 2000 on it.

5 pointsAwesome article. When I first started at Fire Dept some 40 odd years ago we had one used as brush truck. We would put a "rookie" in and have him drive through ditch at an angle. Right in middle just go nuts and make them stop with body rotated screaming you broke the frame! The reaction was priceless. Loved to drive that truck! You could put it in granny low and walk faster than it but that thing would climb a wall. So much power. Pulled many a larger truck out of numerous situations with it.

5 points@ebinmaine love it , old school original set up , with upgrades to make it all work better . Mercedes UNIMOG , always had that extreme chassis flex , combined with PORTAL AXELS AT ALL 4 CORNERS , and 32 SP GEAR BOXES . my first experience with that type of dodge , was a 6x6 version that was still in the shipping crate ! bought as war surplus . working at a tree trimming place as one of my first jobs , spraying down brush , that 6x6 was an extreme rock crawler , no effort at all to crawl over or drive thru anything . had a good teacher , emphasizing , correct gear / range, to get the job done , also showed me how to use a winch properly . gearing is your friend , loved driving that thing , pete

5 pointsFormariz, I hope and pray he's better soon! My dad went through a similar situation a few years back. Had to bring him home with me for 6 months, but he did recover and go back home. Dad was always self sufficient and proud. While that was a source of pride for both of us, he and I gained new respect for one another during the process of his healing. It was alot of work, but worth it. Dunno why I said all that except to try and say to keep your head up and don't worry. Life is what it is, but many times comes with a silver lining.

5 pointsI finally got Hank to do a little work moving some stuff from my truck and from behind the shop. The I installed the sleeve hitch I got from @ebinmaineand hooked up the plough for a little test run.

5 pointsI fixed my Bronco's throttle cable. I've changed it several times, but they eventually break loose and get stuck in the lock position. Horror Fright carries a couple different roll pin assortments. Both have 1/16th pins. So I cross drilled the knob though the shaft, and stuck a pin in it. Used small channel locks to press it in. Time will tell, but so far it's great!

4 pointsYesterday while I was working on the Work Horse, I made up a little metal clip to slide down on the clutch safety switch… It rattled around in the hole and I was told by someone on here that it needed to be snug.

4 pointsHere is what I did to the hubs on my 312. We rekeyed the hubs to the other set screw hole as the original had gotten larger on each side of the key. Then we rekeyed the axles to a full length square key way To finish it off I added split collars to the inside of the hubs and tighten them down tight.
