Now this is the way that I feel, and I understand that everyone has their lives to live and all are entitled to their privacy and by no means is my intention to lecture anybody. Having said that, even though many of us never met , and do not have close relationships, we do in a different way do have a relationship. We get to know one another in a fairly close way from our posts and all the interaction associated with the site. In fewer words we do care about one another and obviously get concerned when one of us sort of “disappears” all of a sudden. Most of us are no longer spring chickens and the worse always comes to mind. As an example I have been wondering about John a few times and now we learn of the sad event. Many times we don’t know what life brings us and there are major unexpected events that takes us away from the things we like to do or usually do . It would be good that in those times we could just briefly communicate to all and just say that we would be gone for a while to deal with whatever. No need for specifics, just letting the others know we are ok.

Some of you may recall several recent posts about Frame Reinforcing Plates or Angles and Diagonal Braces. Yesterday I installed the ones I made this summer for the C series. I was a bit concerned about unbolting all 4 Unidrive attaching bolts at once - working alone I did not want to have it shift. Removed the seat, rear pan and footrests - side metal. Jacked it up, placed 2 automotive jackstands at the outer ends of the rear foot rest mounts and set it down. Used 2 devices to hold the 8 speed - The floor jack under the front (shown) and a strap / comealong (not shown) to support the transaxle from above. No issues - parts are now installed. @Maxwell-8 - this is what we chatted about - all bolt in items. Bill

So on top of buying, selling, and collecting stock wheel horses me and my friends enjoy modifying them to compete off-road. So far I have build 6 or 7 off-road machines. Purist don’t worry all of the off-road tractors have been build from junky machines most of them have actually come from the scrap yard. Here’s my most recent build I’m working on but I’d love to see if anyone else on here has build one.. if your interested in seeing more of these off-road machines check out my YouTube!

In the mid 60’s here today in Maryland. My zero turn is in the shop, so I picked up a really nice 48” deck. Took the snow blade off and mowed the grass and leaves I hope for the last time this year. Felt good to be out enjoying the horse ride.

To the best of my knowledge and experience, the belt drive will slip if the auger cannot spin with the drive engaged - yup, no shearpins on a single stage blower. There is no helical gear gearbox to protect from breakage...... Bill

Personally, I would use the matte version on a patina build I wanted to preserve Lane. I've never been a big fan of, or understood the whole glossy patina thing. But, to each their own.

I'm not so much into building a Horse to be strictly an off-road machine but I most certainly do have an appreciation for their capabilities. Being as rugged as they're built definitely is a bonus. And like Kevin says in the previous post I do appreciate them being saved from being recycled into the next piece of disposable material. Haven't seen a couple of Ben's machines in action in person in my own forest I can tell you that they would be some kind of handy to help us with processing firewood on occasion.

I have several of these elevator buckets attached to the wall for larger items, these you can get used for free from any agriculture fertilizer or grain plant.

By the way y’all, I taught Rylee to use a vertical band saw yesterday. She has a class called Odyssey of the Mind. It doesn’t allow parents to help with design, build or testing. We are allowed to teach technique, safety, process, etc… but NO WORK can be done by ANYONE BUT HER on the project. Currently she’s working on a self propelled car. She’s playing with hydro power. Water falls through a holding tank into essentially a water wheel hooked to an axle. Eventually it’ll need to transport an item across a floor, over obstacles, etc.

Why are you sitting around reading Redsquare?? Shouldn't you be out cutting trees for me?
  29. 5 points
Hey Eric, you live in a forest...you can't tell me you can't find a 4" dia tree limb and cut circles with a chop saw. Might have to touch them up with a circular sander. After reading this, I could have cut them already.

Never have seen one of these before; data for the engine. Neat that it came with so much original docs.

Hi Everyone, Fortunately I have a few friends that are pretty knowledgeable with engine work and we were able to get it running! here is a link to see it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16vVIIzYJ41QpxJplghn-frQd4Ot9RGCU/view?usp=sharing The exhaust valve was stuck open. Both valves also weren't seating properly. We've gotten that corrected but are still having trouble with the carb specifically the main jet adjustment needle and main nozzle. All the rebuild kits I've come across so far don't seem to contain this needle so if anyone has any sources on where to get one I'd appreciate it. The model is Zenith L48AD 11595. I see that there is a replacement model 12522 that runs $300-$400 and if consensus here is to go that route I'll do that if needed. Also looking for a Fairbanks Morse X1B7E faceplate. This one has a slight crack. The video has a makeshift starter but the tractor is starting on one rope pull as of tonight. And finally here is the Wisconsin serial # for those that are interested: Serial# 2443691 spec 102703 Model AEN Thanks again and take care, Mike

Well put Caz. I'm fine by the way. 🤠 I've been known to text a bit with either one of Jeff or Randy. If I remember correctly both of them had job changes in the last few months and they've been busier than a one-arm wallpaper hanger with an itchy back.

So for those wondering about the one piece shroud problem on my 418 A.....and how I was going to deal with it...here it is....I drilled out the silly spot welds...put some nice tinnerman clips on the holes...installed some black screws with self contained washers...and now you dont have to deal with not getting the shroud off !!!! I had to pull the flywheel and the big tin at the same time. What a PITA... So he is the end result....Also I got new magnets from a local dealer who saved everything for 50 years...he had a pile of flywheels from every era. So I scuffed and cleaned the flywheel, also the magnets....checked polarity....they are Tri-polar magnets as you probably already know...NSN AND SNS.....so it goes NSNSNSNSNSNSNSNSNSN and secured them with ORIGINAL JB WELD...they are baking near the pellet stove as I write ....It is now a seviceable 2 piece shroud, not capturing the flywheel anymore !!!

@Gregor, @Jeff-C175, @Snoopy11 I like to use a dry Teflon/Silicone or Moly lube on moving parts like hydro linkage, cables and pivots. We used CRC products back at the Dams where I retired from, so I've continued using them at home. But there are many good ones out there. Some brands market a silicone lube as Dry Garage Door Lube. This is one that I use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013J84BY/ref=as_li_ss_tl?SubscriptionId=AKIAJO7E5OLQ67NVPFZA&ascsubtag=904063481-2-1585476352.1638022314&tag=shopperz_origin1-20 Using my tractors for mowing and dirt work grease type lubricants attract too much dust, which I feel accelerates wear. So a wet grease only goes in a grease fitting for me. I also like to use this Dry Moly Lube spray. Again, there are several good brands out there. https://www.kljack.com/products/crc03084/ PS Back when my oldest sons 1st Pine Wood Derby Car lost badly, I learned winning cars "Dads" helped significantly with the speed modifications to the cars. When your at a race and "Dad' won't let Son handle car, you figure out who built the car. I wanted my sons to learn, so I taught them to polish the the nail axles using the drill press and predrill nail axle hones in the wood block nice and square on the drill press. But they had hands on, and they won! The next year and through 3 sons, I made my shop available to any of the Cubs and their Dads/Moms. Over the years I guided hundreds of kids hands on a Sears Bench Top Jig Saw, and Drill Press. Then we sprayed the nail axles and plastic wheel holes with the CRC Moly Lube, and got the cars at max allowable weight. Taught them just like my sons, all the Scouts were my sons after all, and their cars beat my sons cars some years. Moly Lubed Axles were always in the top 3 Winners Circle! (later I learned dads were even ordering 'jeweled" axle nails instead of using the ones supplied in the kit.) Yes, their was a part of me, that loved seeing a car that a kid had his hands all over, with a kid cutting and paint job beat those "Dad" showroom corvette, camaro. mustang built cars. One of my sons even won with a square block of wood one year. Sorry to get off track.

My new garage is about the same size - the old one was falling down - used to be a 2 bay automotive business my Father in law ran rebuilt same footprint but increased the wall height from 8' to 10 feet - added about $2 grand in materials and labor - well worth it. My town USED TO allow a partial teardown and rebuild if you were too close to a property line as long as all parties involved agreed - mid construction we get a new building inspector and had to move the left wall in by 3 and a half feet - there goes my 12 foot wide garage door!! Had to settle for a 9 foot wide door....

@peter lena Today I go thru all the brake and clutch pivots - disassemble, clean, use Pete's favorite green grease and reassemble with either nylon or copper thin washers to tighten up the joints - NEW stainless cotter pins. Do it once, do it right.

We don't mind the green, but shouldn't it be at the back of the line where it belongs?

I rather have this type of system . Easy to see contents , can be taken right to work area, and no garbage or stray fasteners get mixed up with them.
