This was my father in law’s Bronco 14. It’s been setting for the last 3 years since his passing. After thinning out the herd, I finally had room in the garage to bring it home. Now the fun begins to get this old girl cleaned up. New fluids, filters, gas line and battery on tap. The correct seat pan also needs to be installed. Also looks like the lift cylinder needs to be repaired/replaced.

First things first. I want to say a HUGE thank you to @OldWorkHorse Steve and his awesome woman Ariel for helping my Trina contact @Wheel Horse 3D. Grey also gets the same thank you for patiently helping Trina create EXACTLY what she wanted to give me. Now some of you fine folks may remember the distant past and that we've been working on building a somewhat oversized version of a Wheelhorse C series. Well The Local Creative Emblems Department decided that tractor needed a hood ornament. The pose, is perfect. The size, is perfect. The paint, of course, is excellent. BBT spent several hours over the course of a week masking and spraying etc using the very colors of the tractor. I give you, Colossus, the hood ornament. Here it is setting on the hood of The Military Tribute Tractor which has its own Grey 3D printed ornament. The length of the emblem on Millie is stock. A few other angles of the masterpiece.

We enjoy FALL Season Leaves duty, the only part I didn't like was HAULING THEM off to the backwoods. with a cart or tarp. But then I acquired a Johnny Bucket . Heres the 310-8 ( purchased new in '87) towing the 5HP blower around the yard ( wife driving) and then we have the '79 C81 with a Leaves Box built into the Johnny Bucket to haul them off to the backwoods and dump them. I added a 3 " extension ( quick on/off) to the Johnny Bucket LIFT actuator , which provides adequate clearance to DUMP the Leaves Box. The 310 with the side discharge , cuts the grass and blows leaves at the same time . The Blower does have to be run at moderate speed or the leaves will blow across the yard defeating the whole purpose LOL The Leave Box can easily handle a larger TARP of leaves. It mounts to the Johnny Bucket with 4 Bolts, easy on/off. The Johnny Bucket lives on the C81 full time. The amount of chores it is used for is immeasurable . Gravel, Dirt, Mulch , Stones, Logs , Brush, etc... The reward for filling the LEAVES BOX is driving into the backwoods . Leaves Duty has never been so much fun ! This is proof positive that 1 Wheel Horse Tractor is not sufficient, 2 , 3 or more is required ! Our 3rd WH Tractor, the 315-8 , is dedicated to lawn cutting duty. !

Between yesterday and today painted the chaff screen and set up the 417-8 for Winter duty. After reading all the comments on here about painting in cooler weather I thought I would try it. After spraying immediately brought the screen in the basement for 4 hours then in front of the woodstove to bake for 4 more, seemed to work well. Also because of our resident lubrication technician @peter lena I lubricated things that I usually do not. The only problem is the array of lubricants in the shop, which one do you use.

Just a start. Kinda like it. Will do some landscaping in the spring. Fake chickens will have another place to roost!

cool raw day great for a cheesy mixture mac and cheese , mixed 3 types of sharp, xtra sharp and cracker barrel , all hand done on a hand greater . ritz cracker and panko mix topping , what its all about , kitchen work at its best . another thing we do , as a left over , put the mac and cheese on a flat bake sheet , lower coil first , to get it into a bubbling grease base , then switch to top for broiling till brown an crispy , as it melts together , with fresh ground pepper , it like crispy perfection . right now the smell of that , is terrific , life is simple , keep it that way , pete

For plowing snow, I have used rear wheel weights & chains for years. I bought a snowblower a few years ago and when I was loading it up, the seller said “these weights are supposed to go with it”. It basically bolts in place of the rear drawbar and secured under the rear fender bracket. Holds 6-25# suitcase weights. My Dad is a retired machinist, so we are going to make some copies of this rear weight bracket for some of our other Wheel Horses.

Always thought a C-160 Auto would be the cats meow but ones I found were ridden hard and put up wet. Just landed the "unicorn"! Whoo Hoo! Drove 4 hours to Charlotte to pick it up. Original owner since 1975. He passed years ago and it sat in his shed. Local guy cut the widows lawn for a year with his zero turn and she gave him the C-160. All original including the wheel horse tires. 730 hours, hydro lift, slot hitch, original seat with arm rests, mower deck. I did use plenty of elbow grease / 3M compound and wax to preserve that original finish. I know everyone here loves pictures so attached a few below. I am always amazed at the restorations folks here do but for me, an original worker is just fine!

These lights are similar to the ones you posted. I made a frame so I didn't have to drill holes in the hood. And they're spread out enough so that no matter which way the chute is, it doesn't block the light. And the lights are quite bright.

The one with the least amount in it… use it up and keep going…

I am a big fan of Fluid Film I use it in my shop all the time. Door hinges and hood latches especially Tractors wherever parts move get a shot. My grease gun usually has marine grease as it is good for the outboard steering and easier than reloading grease gun for different purposes

Not quite Kevin. I usually walk the last 300 yds. I will say deer do not seem to be alarmed at a person on a tractor or a horse, but usually vacate the area when they see a two legged upright creature.

Taking some of Lowell’s parts and matching them to my patina machine . This was a fun process .

Awwww, my FIL knew I had depleted my rattle cans on his machine, so he bought all the Regal Red he could find! I didn't have the heart to tell him I used about 9 cans on his tractor, and I appreciated the thought!

Working farm fields, deer would pay not attention to a tractor unless you stopped. If you stopped the tractor they would take off.

@Handy Don I just looked. As far as fixing the Ye ole jolly ones sleigh, the probability of possibility is still high. I got sidetracked when I found the perfect horn for the build.

@ebinmaine Wow Eric that C-160 really cleaned up nicely. What a great find. I’m glad to see it’s in good hands! Some say that’s the best Wheel Horse ever built. I like the fact that the rockshaft is exposed making it easy to install the snowplow lift bar or mower lift chain. Also like the slightly higher than the later C-series motion control lever, it’s only an inch or two but it’s more comfortable to operate.

In considering Wheelhorse tractors an "automatic" and "hydro" are universal terms. Any Horse automatic transmission is a hydrostatic transmission and vice versa. However... There IS a difference of designation in the 80s. The 312 model had 2 very different Eaton transmissions available. The 700 was more price competitive and far less durable/capable than the heavier duty 1100. The 312 tractors with the 700 were marketed as 312A. The 1100 equipped were 312H.

I did not like the looseness of the crank handle support that goes into the mid mount tach-a-matic. Don't know if this has been done before, but here is my cure. I drilled a piece of flat stock, and made this bracket to support the end on the left side. Handle slop is gone now

Got 'em done. Not too bad..... As old as this Bronco is, I cannot imagine that these were original, but who knows? This side had no grease zerks, now they do, so I am happy about that. Now, the only lingering issue is with the speedometer. I have done some investigating and some research..... the speedo drive gear in the transfer case has a noticeable worn, concave dip in it. So, it is not reliably engaging the driven gear on the end of the speedo cable that plugs into the transfer case. Not an expensive part, but a booger to get to..... I am contemplating either rebuilding the transfer case if/when I open it up, or just swap out the transfer case entirely with a new one, considering how old this thing is and no telling how many miles are on it. All I can say is: the time I have had it, it has received the best care of it's life. Meanwhile, I will just use a phone app for a speedometer.

Fortunately Trina gave me plenty of warning and worked closely to get everything just right! The macabre collection of body parts was taken oddly enough halloween! I also added a pic of just before shipment so you can see just how much that kick ass paint job rocks and see the mount bolts from the bottom...similar to all the mounts on the hood ornaments I do, just a bit wider spacing and larger bolts. Really awesome concept! Special thanks to @OldWorkHorse and BBT for including me in the fun!

Very true. That's how I got my Ingersoll Rand air compressor that's on my service truck...$1100 unit they had marked down to $750 as is, with what they thought was a locked up engine. Offered the manager $350 cash and we loaded it up in the truck. Turns out the engine was fine, they ran the compressor with no oil and locked it up. I put about $400 into parts to rebuild it, so for less than 800 bucks I've got a new compressor.

The wheel itself will likely be rusted to the shaft, yes. A traditional steering wheel puller won't help much because those normally need to be threaded into the wheel. A bearing puller might be more useful to you. But in your case the existing wheel is already garbage. You can get a sawzall with good fine metal blades and carefully cut the wheel right off. With all the plastic of the wheel gone you can go to a torch for heating up the area if you like.

That's the formula that @WHX?? uses!

Ready for winter and now spring. Been looking for a roller for years. Found this at a tag sale in Ct. OOPPS. It only was $20.00 Wow. Lucky day I guess. Is this a model year 77? With the pic up of the summer tractor it had a 42" plow. Much better than the 48" A lot lighter. Hope you enjoy the picks.
