Been pretty scarce here lately folks, just wanted to throw out a quick update, since I was all over the forums and suddenly vanished. Life is good, just super busy! The woman and I bought some land to build on, so were slowly packing up her place and moving to my little A frame, which is only halfway through renovation. With the cost of materials this summer, I didnt spend much time and effort up there, which is where the Horse stables are. For some reason, Horses in this area have gone crazy as well, and I cant afford 350-500 bucks for a beat up, non running early model with missing parts, just to add to the collection. The lil booger 655 continues to see yard duty at the womans place, 'lawn duty' 1277 is taking care of the A frame, Hoss is getting more cruises than work, ol smoky 701 has been dragging the camper and boat around and fogging skeeters like a champ, and the B-1 bomber has gotten a TON of off road riding, everywhere from Ohio to PA to Kentucky, and continues to give near zero trouble. On a good note, the move to the A frame is coming after the first of the year, so I'll be in the stables a whole lot more than ever, and much more active here! ...and the new place will have a shop as well Hope you are all doing great!!!

We've been really putting a bit of focus on maintaining and adding to our trail network the last few weeks. We use them for recreation in the form of walking, snowshoeing, or even an occasional tractor cruise. We use them in a life sustenance essential form because these trails are how and where we pull firewood from the forest. With our Annual Fall Gathering and Meet n Greet coming up here on the mountain side we wanted to set into improving the trail system so it would be usable by November 13th. Trina, her mom, and I have been adding a bunch of gravel to all the trails to help make them smoother and more tolerable for towing heavy loads. Side benefit is they're also more usable for the other folks coming up to buzz around the forest. Here's a video Trina made on her last trip out this evening. This shows the main path headed past the Horse stable next to driveway, out over the bridge, and to the right of the acreage. Note when she slows down the RPM. That's either a steep downhill or rough spot. About halfway through is a good shot of "Split Rock". Not in the video... the trail continues back on up the hill and out to the bridge.

Figured I’d make a thread and show how to do a predator 212 / Honda gx200 repower. I will be putting this engine on my super sentimental 854. I hate to see the 854 sit for another year. Once I have time probably next winter I want to do a rebuild on the original kohler and repaint the 854… till then I’d like to do some work with it…

Okay, you really aren't gonna believe it, two broom sticks that I am gonna make walking sticks for my grandkids. Couldn't find anything locally, so these were a little over $6 a piece with free shipping of course. How did they even make any money on these? They went through USPS from Amazon too. At least they are made in the USA!!

I didn't think anything about it 'till you mentioned it. Then I realised you drive on the wrong side of the road over there.

Sometimes I think we don't really appreciate the simplistic design of a Wheel Horse. Everything is as simple as it can be in most cases. If you are a glutton for punishment, tear down a Massey Ferguson MF16. Actually, tearing it down isn't too hard. Putting it back together again, can be a challenge. Luckily for me, I have two 14's for reference. The 16 is almost identical, but for the muffler, motor mounts, and HP. Yet for all it's extra levers, bellcranks, knobs, linkages, and complexity, it probably won't do any more work, or work harder than a WH C-165. Both have a Kohler 341. The MF 16 has a 2 speed Sundstrand Hydro. The 165 is also available with a Sundstrand Hydro. The MF weighs in @ 940 lbs. The 165, 600 lbs. The one advantage the MF has is top speed. With the 2 speed hydro, top forward speed is 9 mph, compared to the 165 at 7 mph. I'm not sure just what good that does, it's just a statistic. I do know I have days ahead of me cleaning, repairing, and trying to replace irreplaceable parts for this MF 16. With night time temps dropping below freezing this week, I kind-a gotta hurry. This of course isn't all the parts, but it's a bunch of them.

@c-series don Has me jonesin for a 420 trail ride, still drooling over his. Pulled this one out today for a nice smooth trail ride on the carpet of leaves and pine needles makes a good base. Come on up Don your tire's won't even get dirty on these trails. What a perfect day considering this late in the year up here, very mild and enjoyable.

I make my own wear bars. Instead of taking the time to broach square holes in a sacrificial part, I just drill the holes and use button head bolts with a allen head. Works great.

I am currently working on a new to me Bolens G10. A relative complex tractor. For example you can't push the tractor in neutral , because of a screw gear, driving the final gear. so there is a pin in the back you got to try and get out every time you have to move it. clutch is more complicated, an engine swap would be quite a bit harder, but no so hard as in a Cub Cadet.... (which they only can run a specific low oil pan Kohler K301. When I got it: Currently: Wheel Horses are so modulair, simple but strongly built, attachments can be rather easy be made at home. Engine swaps are a breeze compared to other machines. from a small 212cc predator to a 24hp Honda V-twin.

Good Morning all! Its been forever since I have posted on here, but I lurk around for sure. Life just gets in the way. Last year was a decent amount of snowfall in my area, we ended up with over 3 feet here over the coarse of a month (look, I don't live in snow blower territory so that's a lot!). My 525exi (522xi with new engine) is an absolute snow plow beast. It plows like a freight train with 100lbs of wheel weights, 240lbs of suitcase weights, and 180lbs of me. No chains (people like their driveways too much around here, and also just don't need them till it gets super icy), just some Kenda K502s. My setup puts my total weight around 1700lbs +/-. This will go through 8-10" of medium weight snow with a "plow roll" at 7mph. My problems: The plow cant handle this. My plow looks like a taco. There is a good 3-4" of bow out on each wing. Has anyone reinforced these and if so how does it look/work? Where is the ideal place to brace it without intruding on the mechanisms (I need to keep the trip function, found a couple spots of hard-pack) The wear bar: With all poured concrete driveways in this neighborhood (I plowed 21 driveways last year during the worst of it) I feel like I wore through the (brand new!) wear bar in two days. I have some metalworking tools, but I would want the square holes broached in it already. Does anyone sell a thicker version of this? This is my setup from a few years ago, before taco-ing the plow. Pushing dirt a couple years ago with only 4 suitcase weights: Thanks! Also Bonus of me plowing in Jan of 2019. Unfortunately didnt take any video last year. Just focused on moving snow and keeping fingers warm!

I do the same, flat stock and regular stainless bolts. The thicker the flat stock, the longer it lasts

I really like red tractors, but if I'm being honest, my favorite color is free. Three new, used, broken tractors ended up at my place this weekend. I really hope y'all dont kick me out of the club, but my new project is to make the green one run.

Thicker gasket is to prevent vapor lock if it has been an issue. Either one will work.
  21. 4 points
Interesting. Seems Kohler may have used different carb to block gaskets over time. Some i have are almost 1/4" thick obviously to reduce heat transfer..

One place that is often overlooked is the starter. When one is disassembled the ends of the field housing, the commutator end plate and the drive end plates should be wire brushed to restore the ground path they provide.

They had issues with some applications getting the carb hot. Look at JD and CC and some of their enclosures to keep the noise down. Not as much air flowing thru.

For them Wisconsin folk… Excessive cheese curd intake has the same effect as wheel weights or suitcase weights… you carry them around your middle and they are commonly referred to as “inner tubes” by most folks when they look in the mirror… no need to paint them.

I’m not surprised @AHS, the 300, 400, and 500 series machines are beastly. Especially the 400s and 500s. Good find there @ebinmaine and @JCM, I’m kinda jealous.

Notice the SKF/Chicago Rawhide part numbers are relative to the shaft size. Add a decimal to the front and you get the approximate shaft size in inches. Input seal is SKF 6105 (.6105") 5/8" is .625" Brake seal is SKF 7410 (.7410") 3/4" is .750" Axle seals are SKF 9815 (.9815") 1" is 1.00"

Almost done with the 417-A. I had it running last week, but when I tried to start it this weekend, I found out the key switch had shorted out. I should have one this week. It had 6" wheels on the front when i bought it. I will eventually put 8" wheels on it as well as do something with the seat.
