19 pointsSince I got the "bug" hanging around this site....I have been hankerin for a 16 HP tractor for plowing and heavy pulling. Was originally planning to use the the GT 14 but it has a "lame transmission" and my 2 C-120's with hydros are good "work horses" for mowing and pushing dirt but not up to plowing...so...I had been looking for a C-160 8 speed. Most I saw were "ridden hard and put up wet" or too much $$$. After much patience this 416 - 8 showed up and begged to be taken home. It appeared to have the "colic" and wasn't running so I had to haggle the guy down to 1/2 half his asking price. Pig in a poke right? Cleaned the carb when I got it home and within an hour had it "chomping like a stud horse"! Its the last year for the Kohler K series 1985, which I prefer, and doesn't have all the idiot lights so was just what I wanted. Enjoy....

7 pointsI tried out my new-to-me 42" SD deck today and it worked great. I found this deck on FB marketplace and picked it up from a nice gentleman an hour away from me, turned out to be @squonk lol. Until now I've only had a 42" RD and to be honest I like the SD better... I like how it throws the clippings instead of just letting them lay on the ground. The resulting cut looks cleaner and there's something satisfying about watching the clippings blasting out the side of the deck. She's going to be getting new blades and spindle bearings. Having 2 tractors and 2 decks now, if my wife and I mow together we should be able to cut the whole property in 1.5hrs including trails.

6 points16 horses & a 6 speed. Unstoppable. Real nice find and best of luck with your 416-8. I like the Magnums but prefer the K series.

5 pointsThat is one SWEET looking tractor ..... WOW!! and the deck!! just WOW!! You done good 'grasshopper' Reading about the later wirings and their problems reminds me of a 314-8 that I found a while back that had the row of idiot lights on the left side of the dash .... what a mess! After bout 30 mins of fiddling with that, I just ripped the whole mess out and went back with a tried and true on/off/start wiring. Ahhh, much better!

5 pointsWow the big 57 !!!! yer catching up! Happy Happy Tom ! Ahhh ....Dan.... he's at a show WE should be at!!!! Where to even start with the pics! 2017

5 pointsintestering comment on the SD vs RD deck. I've got one of each and agree that the SD gives a better cut, but the RD really works well with a tow behind sweeper. I like the RD deck because it does not seem to throw objects as far as the SD deck. The RD deck is narrower too. Gets into smaller places and cuts closely on both sides.

4 pointsi am 33 years old and obtained my first wheel horse about a month ago, been on the hunt for quite some time but in northern California they are damn near impossible to find. i got me a 69 charger 12 with 42" deck and plow for the low price of free. older gentleman did a half restoration on it 10 years ago and then once completed he didn't like it so bought himself a new tractor and was going to just toss it out. thankfully i knew the guy and he just gave it to me. a battery and some topping off of fluids and she runs like a dream. You don't need new and fancy to do something great or to show your status. i think these older mowers tell a lot more about yourself than any new one can, may be more maintenance but well worth it

4 pointsIn my neighborhood, mostly a 50 + age group, all but five of us have a lawn service. Last week the Yard Man scalping my neighbor's yard, stopped me and asked what I was mowing with (310-8 with 36" deck), after a short conversation, he asked if I wanted to sell it. very short two letter answer..No. All us us that do our own mowing, weeding, trimming, and what ever else to do are over 65! Young guys, most have a mower of some fashion, pay more in the yearly mowing months than I have in all my WH's!

4 pointsI am here to declare a victory! I went and ought a green NAPA belt and installed it. Replaced the guard. And Oh no It didn't fix it. Then thinking about what was said, I installed this bolt. into a mounting hole on the engine. TA DA and all is well. It just clears when the belt is engaged. It is a little grabby when I release the clutch, I'll learn the sweet spot. Now I have to go back and fix the it dies on the hill problem.

3 pointsBeen way too many years. Glad to see how big the forum has gotten. Ill keep the story short. Went back to Iraq in 2010 came home to an empty horse stable and divorce papers. She gave all the horses including the V18 to her brother to scrap. Im hoping he sold a few rather than scrap them, but still. So I stayed away while life did its thing. I am now retired from the army and I have recently aquired another vert and a couple of those crazy horizontal things. So I guess its time to come back to the great church of WH. Joel the Vertical shaft guy

3 pointsYour belt guard was hacked off considerably. In addition to you bolt you may want to fabricates a wire support at the bottom of the pulley similar to this

3 pointsThanks, but I would ratther wait on a 301 Predator and I am in no hurry BACKORDER, My engine should arrive sometime in Sept. In the mean time I bought a pair of 20x8 and put them on a modified cart. I used the frame from a wheel barrow and the axle clamps from a WH deck It still needs a few refidements

3 pointsYou are going to love that one. I had a 416-8. Out of all the garden tractors I have ever owned I wish I could have that one back. Should have hung on to it. Mine had the 16hp Magnum. I ordered a custom set of decals and did nice refreshing. Good luck with it.

-
3 pointsOh yeah, to answer your question, for blowing snow I definitely don't want the rear to be wider than the blower.
-
3 pointsI traded a $50 item for this guy today. Runs and mows and has a rear hitch. So I have a new friend for the other horses to play with.
