13 pointsLast week @Matt Lemanski posted about a C 195 that he had saved from the scrap man. It was a tractor he kind of fell into and couldn't pass up, and he was not sure what to do with it. Well, we exchanged some PM's and came up with a price that was agreeable to both of us. Last Saturday, I brought what appears to be an early production C 195 home. Here are some pictures:

7 pointsWas up at the farm yesterday repairing the big implement shed doors overhead runner. Mates grandson bent everything when he drove in with the post knocker and didn't think to lower the arms when driving in. We did an excellent job of straightening the angle iron lintel. Using the Kramer telehandler to push it out and up, we finish off with 10T jack, long length of scaffolding and acet/oxy torch, One of the runners was quite bent, and the track closed up. Gas bottles into play again to straighten it and a large chisel driven along the track saved that section. With the tractor transport box as a safety cage on the Kramer, we replaced the repaired section of track. Readjusted the height of one of the doors and all is as good as new. Only things we had to replace were the track brackets nuts and bolts. We had to burn those off.They came out of the stock of used ones in the workshop. My farmer mate reckoned if some company had done the job, who would have replaced everything with new, it would have cost something like £1,500. I asked if I could have a raise or bonus. He just laughed. Good job we've been good friends for over 40 years.

6 points@The Tuul Crib was supposed to send me hubs for work but have not seen hide nor hair of them or him. Not like him for not posting for days. Me fears he may have got caught up in that nasty storm & rain that hit TN couple a days ago. Hope everything is OK Cribs.

5 pointsBeen way too many years. Glad to see how big the forum has gotten. Ill keep the story short. Went back to Iraq in 2010 came home to an empty horse stable and divorce papers. She gave all the horses including the V18 to her brother to scrap. Im hoping he sold a few rather than scrap them, but still. So I stayed away while life did its thing. I am now retired from the army and I have recently aquired another vert and a couple of those crazy horizontal things. So I guess its time to come back to the great church of WH. 4 pointsSince I got the "bug" hanging around this site....I have been hankerin for a 16 HP tractor for plowing and heavy pulling. Was originally planning to use the the GT 14 but it has a "lame transmission" and my 2 C-120's with hydros are good "work horses" for mowing and pushing dirt but not up to plowing...so...I had been looking for a C-160 8 speed. Most I saw were "ridden hard and put up wet" or too much $$$. After much patience this 416 - 8 showed up and begged to be taken home. It appeared to have the "colic" and wasn't running so I had to haggle the guy down to 1/2 half his asking price. Pig in a poke right? Cleaned the carb when I got it home and within an hour had it "chomping like a stud horse"! Its the last year for the Kohler K series 1985, which I prefer, and doesn't have all the idiot lights so was just what I wanted. Enjoy....

4 pointsMake sure you get spindles that use blades with a 3/4" center hole. The 5/8" x 3/4" double-D blades are getting hard to find if not impossible. Garry

4 pointsI took all my running and driving tractors out for a little drive today. I got some bad news on my yearly cancer check last week that may or may not put me back in the hospitol again. I need some more test until I know for sure. Beautiful day for a ride !! The more I think about my Horses the less I think about cancer.

3 pointsI'm tomato heavy this year. The neighbors are starting to close the curtains when they see me coming with a bucket full. The food bank won't take any more. I'm gettin tired of BLTs, so I came up with this. FRIED STUFFED TOMATO RINGS Slice a couple bigguns and scoop out the center. Chop up the insides and drain off the juice. Stir in a couple eggs, chopped pepper, onion, bacon bits, crushed Ritz crackers, and any lefover meats in the fridge. A cheeseburger, sausage, ham,etc. I had some chicken. Throw them in a hot skillet of melted butter and fill the rings. Flip one time and cover with cheese. While the cheese is melting, run out back and pull an ear of corn. 4 minutes in the zapper.

3 pointsSo for those not schooled in the art, as I was not, here's how this type of puller tool is used: First, select the largest extension that fits inside the bearing you want pulled: If you've got one, use a bushing or previously pulled bearing as a spacer, so that the feet on the puller don't obstruct the bearing you are attempting to remove. Insert the extension through the middle of the bearing so that the edges are below the bottom of the bearing. Screw the spreader into it until the outer edges of the extension are tight against the inside of the bearing. Screw the puller onto it, and tighten nut on the center shaft of the puller so that its feet are held firmly against the top edge of the gear. I also put the gear in a vice, to keep it from moving. Take a wrench, and tighten that center nut, holding onto the "shoulders" of the puller to counter the twist of the wrench. Turning that nut pulls the bearing up with the shaft, and the feet push the gear in the opposite direction. Sometimes it rises smoothly, other times it will build up pressure, and "pop" upward, but eventually the bearing will pull up and out of the enclosing gear: That's all there is to it. Rinse, lather, repeat!

3 pointsFinally got the hardware to remount the shredder blade in the chipper/shredder. The blade was beyond dull, and the machine did not want to give it up for sharpening. I won, though. Beat up the mounting bolts in the process. Anyhow, got the machine back together, and foolishly (90 deg heat) started on my pile of stuff needing to be chipped. Got about 2/3 of the way through it. It turned out to be a pretty good aerobic workout for upper body and core muscles, though. Finish it up on another (cooler) day.

2 pointsHey folks, this may be a dumb question but what is the engine difference with the lettering in the Kohler engines? For example K301S and a K301AQS. I am on the lookout for a replacement engine and noticed a lot of WH Kohler engines have an "S" end lettering and a lot of John Deere's Kohlers have the "AQS" end lettering. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something with bolt up compatibility for the frame and PTO shaft size, etc. thanks in advance!

2 pointsI tried out my new-to-me 42" SD deck today and it worked great. I found this deck on FB marketplace and picked it up from a nice gentleman an hour away from me, turned out to be @squonk lol. Until now I've only had a 42" RD and to be honest I like the SD better... I like how it throws the clippings instead of just letting them lay on the ground. The resulting cut looks cleaner and there's something satisfying about watching the clippings blasting out the side of the deck. She's going to be getting new blades and spindle bearings. Having 2 tractors and 2 decks now, if my wife and I mow together we should be able to cut the whole property in 1.5hrs including trails.

Way back in 07 or 08 my phone auto corrected fellers to fekkers in a chat room we were all in and it became my norm for nightly greetings after. Thanks for the welcome back, and it was my honor to serve. Have a teenager doing it now in my place. Well short 6 or 7 ranks lol

I do understand about the dear John thing ...been there done that too. Nothing wrong with a good man's vertical ....we like and will help out with all types Wheel Horse and then some.

2 pointsI had that issue earlier this year. Turns out that the C clip on the stub shaft on the PTO pulley had slipped out of its groove in the stub shaft. A trip to the hardware store for a new C clip fixed it.

2 pointsAQS is a special oil pan. The Wheel Horse models with a cradle-mounted engine, (i.e. C-121, C-125) used a K301AS. The pan was narrow and deep to fit inside the cradle.

2 pointsI ended up getting to the guy with his name on the building. He was much better at explaining their issue and that basically KZ cannot supply them with the camper we ordered. I explained to him that he has some house cleaning to do in the form of his sales manager is an idiot and shouldn’t be allowed to talk with customers. We unfortunately had to cancel and will get our $$ down payment back. I guess now we have some extra cash to get moving on the bus project…

2 pointsAs @stevasaurus said, this is basically the same transmission as any other three speed . The big difference is the located under the fuel tank and you can't take a look inside without removing the transmission. Like all early transmissions the 953/1054 had round shift rails. I have always used SAE 40 Motor oil in them.

2 pointsPete - way ahead of you and putting your recommendation to the test. They're full o fthat green snot. Strangest consistency of a grease I've ever seen. This assembly may stall if the bushing area needs the bronze. Never done that so it will be a learning experience - just normal tools. We'll see when Jacks gets them to me. Thanks!

2 pointsAre you sure that the deck is mounted into the small fork on the front attach-matic. All kinds of weird stuff happens when you miss that fork.

2 pointsI make new wiring harnesses for all my tractors. 14 ga. wire, at a minimum. I recently found these on Amazon, allowing me to reuse the plastic plugs. They fit perfectly. They do require an open barrel style wire crimper. I forgot to mention in line fuses. I am a BIG fan of lots of fuses.
