Stands for Dodge County Antique Power ....a must attend show for us anyway. We were ther in full regalia but the heavy rains and HAIL Mary came apon us Friday night. Turned the show grounds, which are marvelous BTW, to absolute mud. Add to the fact that yep... there are morons on side by sides and trucks who insist on making things worse leaving ruts and mud everywhere. All that aside we still somehow managed to have a good time . Some pics ... standby @Achto whilst I sort them... Ok Dan brought his Cockshutt 30 and the big trailer with seven horses on hopes of pulling the 'shutt but all pulling got cancelled by the rain. Here he had to get pulled out of the parking area . His Jesus crusiers went squish squish .

Bought a 1996 314 Hydro with hydro lift on Monday . 50th Anniversary edition. 684 hours and pretty nice. I didn’t really need it but the price was just begging me to pick it up. I did something I haven’t done in a while, I test drove it and mowed with it on Monday snd thought about it overnight. I could not believe how clean this 314 was inside and how well the motor ran. The transmission works very good too! Went and picked it up on Tuesday! Got a call while I was driving home asking if I had a 42 inch mower deck. Sold it before I got home with the tractor on my trailer! Painted up the muffler with heat paint and changed the spark plug and air cleaner. Put hi temp heat paint on the muffler to make it last. Picked up my New Old Stock Firestone Town and Country tires today. Bought these from Squonk and they are nice. Put tubes in them . Painted a slot hitch that I picked up at the Gettysburg big show.

Some of my favorite Iron, steam powered Iron. The first pic includes 2 engines that belong to some friends of mine. The Frick Eclipse belongs to my friend Al and the Illinois belongs to my friend Willie. Willie's engine is one of 7 Illinois that are still in working condition. A nice Nicholas Sheppard. Some Case engines Working sale model Case. Avery boiler over engine. This club has a nice cut away to show what is inside the boiler of a steam engine. Some oil & gas power iron.

Good morning all. So im ready to buy a tractor for my one acre home. Some hill some unevenness but mostly pretty flat. Started doing some research that included with my love of old school and my hate for everything big box store and plastic has led me to the Wheel Horse. I have one on the line im negotiating with. It was a complete tear down and rebuild from someone that truly knows what they are doing. Its pricey at $1800 but so is a new tractor that's not really rated to do anything but cut grass and hold beer. I like a low cut lawn and I get a **** ton of leaves in the winter - so ideally id like to put a bagger on this from time to time. It also comes with plow blade but im not sure how much id use it for snow. I mow once a week and if last year is any indication two MAJOR leaf hauls if not three. Assuming everything is fully functioning and restored is this - worth it? how difficult is this model to do general maintenance on? (I want to spend more time working less tinkering), are there any fatal flaws with this model? and can I cut my acre of lands grass without issue and suck up these damn leaves into a bag before I garage her for the winter and day dream about running her again! Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Folks: For many years I have wanted to do this, and Covid gave me the chance. I had a spare frame with front axle and wanted to turn it into a wagon. Well, a total of 3 frames and 3 axles went into this, but it mostly served as a way to learn to weld. Bought a welder (Forney 140 Fci Easy Weld), practiced, then decided to dive in. I am a crummy welder, but as long as it holds I am fine. Two frames bolted and welded butt end to butt end, and there ya' have it. Had to purchase some steel plate, the rest of the metal is scavanged from WH tractors and an old spring tine harrow I had. The tongue is entirely from really old metal from the harrow -- perhaps 80 years old? The wood deck is obviously not yet on, that should be the rest of this week. In the background is a 1940/50s JD wagon, I believe to be a 963 or 953.

I know that @squonk is an Economy fan so I always try to get a few shots from the Economy, Power King, & Red E reunion at this show. These 3 all belong to Rob Bush. This Power Queen is one of 5 known in working condition. In years past this show had 3 of the 5 on site.

So Jim, did you win @pullstart's boots in a bet?

Plenty of hit miss engines to go around. Nice home build. If I remember right, this was a Garden Master prototype. Wash machine for you laundry. Unique way to display toy tractors. Some old iron.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts. It means a lot me. Thanks again.

Here are a few pics that I was able to get. First the line up that Jim & I brought. The clay at on this grounds sure puts a great shine on a plow. The mold boards looked like chrome after we were done plowing. This JD looked to be cooking something good. More pics when I can get me phone to cooperate with me.

PNC Park opened 20 years ago and on 7/27/2001 I was there to see a two man baseball game. The Astros lead the entire game on the 3 homers launched by Vinny Castrillo. But Brian Giles denies him a historic game when he reached over the wall and caught what could have been his 4th. Down by six runs in the bottom of the ninth, a rally begins and the Pirates score. With one out remaining and the bases loaded, Giles come to bat against the Astros ace reliever Billy Wagner and his 100mph fastball.......

Chip61 , yes the 314-8 is a great tractor. I have a 92 or 93 with a recycling deck on it. I use with a tiller and snowblower. I think I may try my 314 hydro with the snowblower this winter.

More pics. BTW, cost nealry $300 thus far, not including welding supplies and grinding disks. Uggh. Grinding dust all over the place. Some interesting electric floor sweepers ( I believe that's what they are ). Simple rigs really, just plug em into the wall socket and go.

Isn't it awesome that people come here to find a piece of their past through a simple lawn and garden tractor. Thanks Mr. Pond for bringing us a little closer! Good luck Jimbob, I hope you find the tractor that brought you the great memories of your Grandpa!!

So the other day EB @ebinmaine posts a wanted ad for a fan gear for an 856. The one he is doing military theme. So I pm him calls him a goomer and he shoulda just insulted me first as he knows I am a bit heavy on mid sixties parts. So I blaze a bath in the parts shed. I found one...or three... or a half dozen... So I ask him what happened to the old one ... outside teeth broke off he says and shows me this. So in looking at the one for a short frame I think will work I find this. So I says WTF looks like they were made that way?? So I march out to the horse barn scrape away some grease and find this on my 856. Now he says one fer sure is broke off but I think he might be on crack.... they were cast this way. Thoughts fellas?

I’ve only seen those bosses broken once or twice in 40 years. I agree my guess is someone got heavy handed knocking in the bearing. I always put the bearing in the freezer over night. Same with the guides. learned that from the model A’s and flathead fords.

You've found the friendliest most helpful tractor forum on the planet! No wrong questions to ask here, but maybe a little friendly ribbing after you've been around a while. The 312 is a great all around tractor and sips gas compared to my C160. I just have Kohler engines and find them a little easier to work on than Onans. but if you need the power of a bigger twin engine, everyone says the Onans are worth it. As others have said the price may be a little high. I refurbished a 1984 312-8 gear drive for my son. But if he truly went through the engine ie cylinder bored, crank ground, vs just honed and re-ringed, the cost really add up. That one should have the Eaton 1100 hydro transmission which is tough. There is a lighted duty Eaton (700 I think) that is good, but not up to ground engaging equipment like a dozer blade. Regarding bagging, I live in the south and have lots of Oak leaves. I have a box store mower and bagger that I'm wearing out before I switch to mowing with my C160. Wheelhorses are a little scarcer here and I've yet to see a bagger for sale for one down here. I mow the leaves using a mulching blade and a homemade flat plate over the discharge (no true mulching baffle) and have the cut set a little higher than normal to grind them up some. Then I mow with bagger and deck at regular height and it really makes a difference on how much gets packed in the bags. I have a neighbor with a trac-vas and it awesome, but $$$ and a lot more to store than a bagger setup. PS if you haven to look at gear drive tractors (any brand) you want to be wary of water in the transmission if they were stored outside uncovered. With age, the rubber boot around the shift lever cracks and rain water runs down the stick into the transmission. sometimes they can just be drained and flushed with diesel, a lot of times they need to be split, pitted gears replaced, etc. Also on the gear drives you have to come to a full stop to shift, they are not syncro-mesh transmissions. Shifting on the go usually results in some gear grinding. you can open one of these transmissions and the condition of the cluster gear immediately tells you if they shifted on the go.

@josephvigg hello joe , welcome , agree with others on the high price , while it is a nice looking piece , think 12 to 14 hundred is a about right. ,also agree with @rmaynard on that cyclone rake tow unit , takes a load off the engine, and makes clean up easier . until you see it , hear it , drive it , cannot compare this to a box store , diecast aluminum and plastic . how many hours? maintenance records? tuff call when you already have it in your sights , be courteous , common sense talk will hopefully get you to an agreement . good luck , pete

@Achto & @WHX?? Great pictures , but where is a picture from this show of the "go to a show wear a metal bed pan on your head" dance ?

Oh, by the by... The outboard motor i cleaned the carb on now runs like a good un. Don't worry about the chainsaw specs, they turned up. They were in the last place I looked. Next time I will look there first, save a bit of time 🤣

Welcome to the site! If it were me, I'd be looking for the exact tractor! Google is a powerful tool... Search a name and you never know what you'll find. Who knows, they might still have it!

Thank you so much. I recently lost my younger brother to lung cancer and there was nothing I could do to help him or make him feel better. When I talked to Howard, I thought that I may be able to help. God was good and we are both doing well. ****Edited**** Google"Major Richard Star" to learn a little bit about my brother. He was my best friend, best man , and a soldier's soldier even while sick.i truly miss him. Dave Star

Here is my farm fresh 753 and after it was washed. Have my best driver (aka: grandson #7) pulling my deuce backward..........deuce is in 1st gear low transfer with 6 wheel drive engaged. The power of these WH's is just amazing.

Well, now I own three Bob Rock built 4x4 tractors. One is still in Michigan needing a ride south. Can't wait.

I would pull the pan and check actual clearance. If there isn't oil in the engine, you may get that sound. Best, IMO, to check end play from the inside.

For quite a while now I've had great interest in the fact that when you expect something to work you need to power it up properly. One of the things I do that I enjoy the most is trying to start an engine and then realizing a few minutes later there's nothing in the tank to burn. I've also become particularly adept at attempting to operate an electrical item before even bothering to plug it in.

Yup, with 700 Trans and manual lift, wouldn't give half that. Even if it is purdy...

to the Joseph. That is a great looking 312A. But, IMO, the A is the problem. That has a manual lift and every manual lift I have ever seen has the weaker Eaton 700 transmission. The 312H has the stronger Eaton 1100 and the hydraulic lift.
  41. 2 points
to The 312-A should have a 12 HP Kohler with an Eaton 700 Hydro. Great engine with a decent trans but not as strong as the 1100. Very different paint scheme but nice.

Thanks 71 - that what I was figuring when looking at price the other option was dropping 1600 on a Troy Bilt super bronco with a fab deck and ten on the clock but again ---plastic and ill get with good maintenance and some luck 5-6 years of trouble free operation - maybe. I waiting on the full doc of rebuild - pics, paperwork etc. but for example this is the kind of work he does so im bordering on comfortable - i think he might be a unicorn

Yesterday I finished cleaning up that large tree, firewood removed, holes filled and yard raked. That lasted about four hours and then a down-burst took out another tree at the exact same place. Just to add to the fun, another tree came down blocking the path. This mess will need to wait till this heat wave passes.

Applies to cast iron gear transmissions Back the brake off until you get the lever to engage.

Dear Lord, I lift up my friend Jim who is mourning the loss of his wife. I ask that You would bring him comfort in the midst of this life-shaking event. Thank you for Your promise to walk with and even carry him and his family as they travel through the darkness of grief. Let them not be overcome with sadness, as those who have no hope, but to be strengthened by an awareness of Your presence. Amen
