13 pointsThis was a 90 520H I bought without the Onan, and butchered wiring. I tossed the magnum on there along with some tin. I've driven it around a bit,. I think it's going to be a keeper. There is no wiring on the tractor as yet, I've been jumping the starter lug, runs great and hydro is strong. Added a motion pedal, an electric PTO clutch today. Planning to work it through the summer and blow it apart for paint next winter.

11 pointsI paid $9.95 for one 8' 2x4 last week at my local ACE hardware store. No, it was not pressure treated, just a common #2 whitewood. It might be time to stop printing money and paying people not to work.

10 pointsAbout 8 miles from me is my late great grandparents farm. My great grandfather, George, died in 1989. I always knew that his Farmall Cub was still a part of the farm. As I have been told the tractor has not left the farm in the past 50 to 55 years!! The tractor has been in the barn since 02 or 03, the last time it was ran. Monday the Farmall was sitting right out in the front of the garage; I whipped the truck right into the farm! I kinda know the owner of the farm and he said “the tractors for sale”, I said “how much?”, the owner said $500!!. I OWN IT!😀👍 I couldn’t begin to tell you the the memories I have with that tractor, I was born in 84, so I would have been 5 when George passed. The rides on that tractor, the sound when he used to start it up. It’s has a 6 volt positive ground.... which one goes to the starter? Power or ground? It has a sickle bar with an extra bar, extra zenith carb, the grill I have in the box as well as the muffler... it’s all there just the tractor looks used and put away wet.. it’s a 74 year old tractor😀. What do I use for oil... 10w-30? The owner of the farm said the tractors tired... “it runs great for about 30 minutes, and then she just goes south on you”. I can’t wait to hear it fire off for the first time! 😂tips and tricks for the old Farmall? I’m all ears...

8 pointsWe should all realize and understand that although this is one country, things are very different from one area to another unlike in most other countries. We should not be passing judgement on others , their ideas and their way of life. We should be united and try to understand others point of view for they all have value and are always a result of their circumstances. We should not be labeling people for their political or religious affiliation but rather understand why they have the thoughts they have. We are being guided like cattle to go one way or another at the cattleman's discretion and convenience. I stated a few of my circumstances not to complain or boast but just to illustrate how different things are in the same country. Trust me when I say that I know I am one of the exceptions. This system can be very unfair. If one does well and has money, generally one will always have money simply because money makes money and this system favors that. However if one doesn't or just gets by, the hole just gets bigger or one is always clinging to the edge. Its rigged. I am not swayed by any political affiliation or ideology, I have none. I am however swayed by what I see and my experience in life dealing with many different people. Too many times we are caught up in this madness and do not see or realize what is happening. We are all supposed to reap the same benefits afforded by our hard work and love for this country but it is not the same for everyone. I know that the step between where I am and homelessness in this country is also very short one. Its unfair and its not right.

7 pointsI ran the C-125 restored a few years ago into the garage for an overdue oil change and the starter sounded like pure hell. Original starter but had replaced the bendix with the cheap eBay kit. Pulled the starter and noticed that the spring was a twisted mess. The washer had also worn to interfere with the gear. Did I actually put that washer on there?! $20 kits on eBay but was hoping I could be 'old fashioned' and find the parts at an old hardware store. $.18 washer and a #7 spring at Ace and she's just perfect with a shot of graphite spray. $1.57. God is good.

7 pointsThe only country that has a positif trade-balance with china is Germany. There are limited containers coming from china. It's like an auction, how offers the most to get his container to the EU/US. I think we should stop with producing so much in Asia. We have seen so many job losses because of it. For example small engines. There are only two brands still producing small engine in the EU/ UK/ Yanmar and honda GC. I think the problem is even bigger in the US.

6 pointsOne of the first things I do to my 520's is to pull the wire harness and go completely through it on the bench cleaning and replacing connections as required. Also this is the perfect time to add or eliminate circuits as needed. Once this is done I rarely have an electrical issue.
-
5 pointsDielectric grease is great for trailer plugs, lamp sockets, multi pin plugs, and other such connections. Keeps dirt and water out. Prevents corrosion. If you are using it in hopes of getting a better electrical connection, it may do that by preventing corrosion, but it does NOT conduct electricity on it's own. I use it quite regularly myself.

5 pointsThats the kind of stories that make it all worth it!! What a great find and with a great story besides..... Heh! the positive ground brought to mind a tale - actually my wife and 12-14yr old son. I had rebuilt a 59 Jaguar Mark 1 for my wife and it had positive ground. She and son goes to a church function of some kind and the Jags Battery was dead when she went to leave. So naturally a kind fellow church member offered to 'jump' it off. So my son starts taking the back seat out and the guy says HUH! Son says thats where the batt is .... Oh, OK, heres the cables, you know how to hook it up? Son say sure and proceeds to hook them up ----- and the guy has a fit, youre doing it wrong you gonna mess something up, etc, etc. Wife has to jump in and convince the fella that this 12-14yr old knows what hes doing. Sure nuf it started and the guy was still scratching his head.....

5 pointsThey're a fun rig, I own a 1951 model. 1947 had some one year graphics I can't see on yours, and a different grille. Curious to see what your serial number is. Battery POSITIVE goes to the ground near the shifter, battery negative goes up to the starter motor, and a smaller wire off the starter goes to the dash and generator. Use 30wt non detergent oil.. mine was utterly destroyed by using modern oil and having a block full of 70 year old farmer sludge.. DO NOT use detergent oil until you take the valve tappet cover and oil pan off, and are darn sure it's clean in there.. it'll turn into lapping compound..

5 pointsHomes have been high for a year and a half. My son started looking for a house in the fall of 2019 before covid hit. Constantly got out bid . Offered more than asking price and still lost out. He finally found a home last November. He still got out bid on it but the lady who owned it liked him because he teaches at a school affiliated with her church. So she only accepted his bid. You think it's tough to do home projects? Try doing some repair work for a living. Ask @rjg854 about building materials. Suppliers cant tell you when stuff is going to be there. You're sitting around because you have no parts and your customers are calling wanting to know the status of their equipment and you can't give them an answer. Then BOOM everything shows up at once. Now your scrambling working OT to make everybody happy. Glad I retired when I did.

5 pointsI couldn't agree more. I had a long spiel typed out to post here but then I realized that, while not political, it did seem to have political tones to it. delete, delete, delete.....................

5 pointsYou think so? DEFINITELY! We can't afford to have people sitting round doing nothing. I spoke to some young men playing football and drinking a few months ago, asking if they were ready to go back to work. They were not, why should they when they get paid to do this. So much fraud too, people claiming for anything and everything even if they were not entitled to it. At present everyone wants everything on a plate. We have a top footballer appealing for food to be provided to Britain's starving children. FFS they all have mobiles, Sky TV and fashion trainers, there are no starving children, just a footballer on wages that would make a royal blush who gives up his spare time (but not one penny piece of his income). No one takes responsibility here, its always someone else to blame. My kid is fat so its the government, I'm in debt so its the credit card companies, I'm not well so its the health service. Sorry I'm ranting but this really gets my goat. Today a criminal trial collapsed due to the charges being laid not actually being an offence! How on earth our prosecution decided to go ahead is beyond me. Oh, wait, no, yes it's because the people who were behind this wanted someone to blame for their own failings. Heaven help us in the next two decades! Worried of Wombwell

5 points@Thor27, on your wiring issue , you actually have a very good opportunity to build a stand alone wire harness , and eliminate the problem areas . exploded wiring schematic will show you what's strong and what's a problem area . as you build and test , reroute and enhance the wiring routing and protection , increase engine grounding , to frame and related battery dash mount ground . dielectric grease and serrated washers . make each step , bombproof , pete

5 pointsSince you have no safety switches to worry about here is a basic wiring diagram which uses an inexpensive 103-991 key switch. I mistakenly posted the battery ignition system. Thanks Garry for pointing this out.

4 pointsThis is Diego. He did a lot of work on the tractor. This was his first time ever driving a tractor. He was smiling ear to ear but you can see because of our COVID restrictions. He was amazed that we stripped it down to the frame and then had a beautiful running tractor in a few months. Especially with limited shop time this year.

4 pointsWhen my disability ran out I had to go on unemployment for a month until I was able to go back to work. I got the maximum allowed. $600 week with the enhancements or 2400 a month or $28,000 yr. Can't do much on that salary if you have rent or a mortgage tp pay. People on assistance are not living high on the hog.

4 pointsSecond sash and frame ready for caulk and trim; I found some OLD 14' long 1x4 lumber in my stash. Going to repurpose that into the casings. This is OLD because it's not actual 3/4 x 3-1/2, it measures 7/8 x 3-5/8 !

3 points@WVHillbilly520H @PeacemakerJack and all my Chevy buddies... check this out! Our toy hauler camper has been delayed until August, so we went to FL and got the other camper, then grabbed this ‘99 Chevy GMT-400 work truck. It’s got a 454, 12’x8’ bed and the windows make great air conditioning! We figured we can drive this 2000+ miles a month for the amount we were paying for the 2020. I am selling that to Carvana tomorrow and will pocket enough cash to do some safety checks and pay for fuel/tolls on this pig as our second vehicle hauling stuff to the big show!

3 pointsTrina's decided to resurface out back of the house in the area we call the "fire circle". It's a 26 foot diameter circle of 3/4" crushed stone with an antique truck rim in the center as our fire holder. That rim is surrounded by stones as is many things here. The Yard Decorations Department who also functions as our local stone setting expert will be laying in 12 x 12 x 2 cement pavers. Some gray, some red. Should be an interesting change of scenery but also the chairs will actually sit on top of the cement instead of sinking into the 3/4" stone. She figures it will take around 250 blocks to do what she wants done. The first 40 came home in her little Honda Fit this evening. We used Cinnamon Horse and the 17 cube Agri fab trailer to move a little over half of them from the upper driveway to the backyard.
-
3 pointsI’m confused. I’ve used dielectric grease on my trailer light plugs for years and have never had a problem with connections. In fact they stay pristine and work far longer and consistently than with the corrosion I experienced before… I tend to agree with @peter lena’s advice… Can you clarify what are you saying? Thanks!

3 pointsNice looking tractor, I have my fathers 1946 Farmall culti vision A. It has 6 V positive ground, but we just crank it, starts very easy. I use Rotella 30 in mine doesn't get run in the winter. It has an oil filter cartridge. Have fun with it, they don't make em like that any more. Bob
-
3 pointsPositive ground is an interesting thing.. if it's really a 1947 it hardly even has a voltage regulator. That may be old enough for a cutout relay only.. with the manual charge. If the light switch has 3 positions, you should have a normal regulator. If it has FOUR. Far left is off, first click is 2a charge, second click is full 15a charge, and the next two clicks are headlights 'dim' and headlights 'dimmer'.. ahhh 6v.. If the genny works at all, and it is really that year, it would have that genny and switch. Never ever run it around all day on the high charge setting, your battery will fry.. Yep.. hook up your battery backwards and listen to the Dragging Delco sing it's song.. I-dont---wanna-I---dont-wanna..
-
3 pointsWhile dielectric grease may prevent rust and corrosion, it does NOT conduct electricity.
-
3 pointsBuy at least 5 qts. If you have completely drained (taken apart) the system and any cylinders it may take a bit more more...If you just drain from the drain plug it will take less than 5, more like 4.5 qts
-
3 pointsI always make complete new wiring harnesses for all the tractors I re-do. I've never had a problem.

3 pointsAll of the outlets in my garage have the pin on top. In the house, they are on the bottom. That's the way my wife wanted them. With the pin on top, "They don't look right". I just work here, I don't run the place.

3 pointsFinally got the 89 310-8 with 42'' SD deck out for its first mowing today. Impressed by its mowing ability. Some before and after pictures. Hood and rear fender were swapped out that were acquired here on RS and some painting here and there. Installed an 1 1/8'' rear end and refurb to make it a little more presentable working WH tractor.

3 pointsOh boy oh boy. I now have front wheel weights/dual wheel adapters and an extra set of wheels for Hiram.

2 pointsOh, and as for the half hour stall.. probably just he condenser in the mag. Worst case it may need a coil, but that's not a terrible job. Mine has a 6v coil and distributor. Mag's are nice, only need the hand crank to move the machine.

2 pointsSame here in NJ. In addition to that , taxes for Unemployment Insurance are also collected from every individual's paycheck which is clearly stated on every pay stub.
-
2 pointsTo some extent here people are moving away from the city. Since their working from home they can move near the lake, or out in the hill country.

2 pointsYou want to balance the tractor. Too much weight on the front will take away from rear traction. To stay with in a weight class, front weights can be moved further out in front of the tractor. Too much weight on the rear will cause the front end to come up. Yes this transfers the weight to the rear tires but, when the front end goes up the hitch goes down causing a lose of up pull on the front of the stone boat. This creates a disadvantage. If you can get your tractor balanced so that the front wheels are just tickling the ground most of the time, this would be a perfect set up. It will take some experimenting, don't expect to get it perfect the first time.

2 pointsMy wife tells me I work too hard around the house and that I should take more days off and rest... I tell her "I waited 4 to 5 months to get out in the yard"...I can't sit in the house when the weather allows me to be outside. I told her I would rather you find me dead in the yard, than dead in front of the TV...
