I don't know why I bought it. Certainly not looking for a project and I don't have any weeds to mow, but it is kinda cute and it's all there and all parts move. I just neeed to find some spark.

I only paint for corrosion control, usually limited to upper portions of a tractor, so rattle cans are it.....lower portion corrosion control is usually obtained by oil seepage/drips...

After putting it off for a couple years, I sent my hydraulic lift cylinder to Lowell to be rebuilt. Got it installed over the weekend and now it doesn't look like the Exxon Valdez has been parked in my garage!! A little oil goes a long way! Changed the oil, mounted the deck and the C160 is ready to go!!

For over 9 months I have been complaining about the constant rain. Sun and dry oh yeah. This tree came down during the last hurricane and it has taken this long to get it bucked. Stacking up the harvest.

Ed, I'm sure none of us have ever said this and you are the only one who has ever bought a project they didn't need.

This car didn't have a top, or a left rear corner panel on it, when I saw it.

Learn something new everyday. Thank You @Horse Newbie That's his reflection in the hood. I've never been able to get that kind of finish, from a rattle can.

Let you guys in on the joke ....last year plow day Dan and I were adjusting a plow that @pullstartbrought and someone suggested some anti seize on the adjuster threads. I handed a bottle to Dan who graciously applied it generously to the part that often serves as a carry handle. Did you have gloves on when you picked it up Kev?!?! Prolly some pics somewhere in the plow day thread!

Cut the wire that goes to the points and replace your coil with a Briggs solid state coil part # 793281 or aftermarket equivalent. No reason to pull the fly wheel and no more points to worry about.

That's great and all but now how are you going to lubricate your garage floor??

I paint my engines with the same acrylic enamel that I use to paint the rest of the tractor. The main part of the block gets 3 coats of paint, the cooling fins get 2 coats. I have never had issues with the paint or with cooling. No matter what paint you use, it will discolor by the exhaust port. I always leave my cylinder heads bare aluminum.

Pennsylvania now allows you to post your land against Trespassing using a special purple paint you apply to trees post etc instead of the old signs that were required. I don't mind people walking on my property but when I first moved here some used Snow mobiles and ATVs Put a stop to that real quick. I also have a search light I shine on people who are deer jacking from the road.

Seems Madge @AMC RULES has rattle canning down to a fine art. First tractor I restoed I used all rattle cans and it actually came out decent. After many shows and bouncing around in trailers and dropping in a furrow and just general wear and tear she now has the scuffs and nicks of a worker but that's ok. There's no way to avoid that unless you put the tractor in a bubble. Nice thing about rattle canning is you get some imperfections some sanding and another go at it comes out better. Also touching up so it does have it's pros.

Then to the dump. I don't burn all of my wood but turn it in to this. Straight off my bandsaw mill. Ya build, you use it.

@JAinVA Been so long without sun all day I leave ruts in the yard moving a tractor for the spring servicing . I am thinking about pontoons on the tractors.

I think its pretty cool. Dan beat me to it Ed. I got the same motor in 5 HP flavor on the driveway blower & got tired of pulling the flywheel just to dollar bill the points. All it ever took to get it running after setting over winter. 'Sides crank threads were taking a beating and didn't have the correct spanner for the nut. Put the solid state on and never looked back. No can do Silvia .. my girls have already got that moniker on Pullstart's sickle.

Eric, You are breaking a circuit. It is not a crisp sharp break so yes they will spark. The little spark is what causes your points contacts to wear. If the condenser is bad, it will wear out the contacts quicker. (Bigger spark) Also laying a plug on a head and checking for spark really doesn't work well all the time. Corroded aluminum head fins are a poor ground. Get a spark tester.

So I ordered decals for my 1994 520H from Vinylguy a month or longer ago... Was gonna peel the old decals off and keep the original paint and just have new decals. I couldn't stand it...so I ended up painting my hood, seat pan, and console side panels Rustoleum Regal Red. Also painted my steering wheel tower Rustoleum Satin Black. Didn't turn out perfect, but good enough for a simple man...

It's been something like 25 years since I've mixed paint. Back then there were some of the better artist putting the powdered Pearl into an opaque coat over the top of colors and then even adding a different powder color into the clear coat. I know some of you are well aware that the lay down depends on which direction the gun is going and pressures etc. Folks used to do checkered flags with ghost Pearl being sprayed two different directions and you could see the difference even though it was all the same color in the same gun just, sprayed a few days apart...

It is generally a strip of steel, about 1/8” thick by 1-1/4” wide if I recall... 1/4-20 nuts to hold it there. You could use about any thick piece of strip steel you’d like to get the job done... nothing fancy

I have never looked for it in a rattle can. Did a quick search & this stuff is on the right track but I've never used it. https://www.amazon.com/VHT-ESP888000-Red-Nite-Shades/dp/B005257R0O/ref=asc_df_B005257R0O/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312111914138&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12726558938434567205&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9018899&hvtargid=pla-491834009739&psc=1 That's purty!!! It is very hard to get paint to lay down like that out of a rattle can. Spray can paint is reduced a quite a bit and usually dries too fast to get this kind of finish. Or likes to run if you try to keep it wet enough to lay down. I'm not saying that it can't be done, it's just challenging.

I finally used the C-160 on a real project, but a few issues delayed the work. late last fall, I found a decent c-160 with a mower deck that did not start for just 3 benjamins. We took a battery along with us, and it was at least determined it had decent compression as it would blow your thumb off the spark plug hole. After tracing a lack of spark to poor wiring harness connection points, we just went with a simpllified wiring system and she just runs and starts easily. What a bargain. Murphy usually has a way of delaying progress, so imagine my surprise when the deck belt did not tighten up before running out of threads. It turns out that the cross pipe that the front mule drive tightens against was bent. Instead of going to town for a shorter belt that probably would be too short, i instead fashioned a wood block and shim that captures itself between the tightening device and the bent cross pipe. Ten minutes with a table saw and one deck screw and she works a treat. next, the roll pin that captures the c-bracket that pins to the hi-hat clutch was broken, so drive that out and substitute a 16d framing nail.----farmer engineering. Then i could not get the rusty plug out of the yard roller, so I filled it at the vent plug. The c-160beastie just had all kinds of reserve power to mow the yard at the same time. It really made nicely contrasting stripes.as it pulled like a train in 4th gear and no problems with the 48" side discharge mower. I also tinkered with the seat and moved it back beyond its intended limits. even at that , my knees are right between my hands on the steering wheel. I don't spray weeds every year, but with being ahead a bit, i might just do some spraying to keep ahead of things. i love the big guy, and there are a few more 121 and two black hood 140 series to finish up..

Lol...Looks to be a quarter mile or better = nice seat time! Installed a steering wheel tonite and got antisieze all over my hands... wadda ya know about that Kev?!?!? Cindy wants to paint the horse on the center cap @Achto is it OK for her to use right out of the can on plastic? The paint Dan used on the flame guys.
