12 pointsMy latest addition with a couple of before and after pics. Just did some clean up/maintenance, decals, and swapped tires off of my old snow tractor.

8 pointsMy latest addition. Hood says 312-8, 416-8 hood was damage so PO put on a 312-8 hood. Will either change the hood or decals.

7 pointsThis older Hydraulic Clyinder #6618...used 'til mid 70s...is notorious for developing a leak and making a mess. Here is my 'easy fix' to stop the drip drip drip... If it later on begins to leak again, just replace the O-ring under the Copper washer. This is the fix I used on both my Bronco 14 and the C-160 Auto a couple of years ago and neither one leaks today.

7 pointsGreat forum you guys have here! So many really useful responses in such short time! So as I mentioned I have an old piece of a receiver hitch extension in my shop and some angle. Went out there and came up with this in short time this morning. The angles are 3 x 3 x 1/4 which is overkill but there is room and its what I had. Didn’t want to go thinner (though looks like most people did and no problem) because the bolts from the plow mount will hold this on the axle and the bars for those bolts are 1/4 x 1” or so. May rip them down to 3x2 or 2x2 or so if I get inspired and plasma cutter will do it. I have a Chinese plasma cutter that is able to cut 1/4 but I haven’t yet learned the patience to do it well (go slow). Cross tube is 1 1/2” with 1/4 walls so very heavy and fits inside the piece of receiver hitch so I am going to notch out the sides on the front end of the receiver tube to just leave the top and bottom of it so I can weld all around- cope it over the smaller tube. Should be really strong and plenty high. Braces to lower pin will be incorporated once the top piece is together.

7 pointsI am sure a lot of you enjoy looking at pictures of tractors you have bought that needed help and sometimes draw a line as to how far to go. This 420 is a survivor no doubt. It needed a list of small items that seemed to grow the more hours I had into it and the deeper I looked labor wise but really nothing major as of yet. I think leaving some of the worn decals give it some character as it was used as a work tractor which I plan to continue albeit light work. These pictures are my favorite ones nearing completion of the refurbish as I feel a lot more comfortable knowing when I throw a leg over it I have a better idea what is under me.

7 pointsOk ok. Here's a pic. I'll get out and get some more today.

7 pointsResized a set of chains for my rears (width was good diam was too big). Cleaned up and mounted my hitch with a junkyard free tow ball a wire wheeled up. Reversed the mounting bar for the plow too (was on backwards) and made some little spring clips to hold the pins that keep the levers from releasing the plow. took a while!

6 pointsI’d start with just the new belt. They are designed to slip across the pulleys when the clutch is in, until the belt stops. The Kevlar on the edges of the belt eventually gets hard or worn away and most times a new belt will be just what you need for all the pushing and pulling power you need. You’ll learn, traction = weight. These tractors very seldom run out of power, they run out of grip.

6 pointsProgress at snails pace. It doesn’t look like it, but I am getting a few things done with this project. Slowly but surely!

6 points@WHX24, @ebinmaine, @Horse Newbie, @953 nut, @Ed Kennell, @JCM, @pullstart, @Pollack Pete, Today I tried out the snow plow as this was a very wet and heavy snow more so than last Sunday, some videos for your entertainment... Wish I would have gotten a couple from inside the cab while "rolling" the snow , it did so fairly well but even with 4wd that big ole blade and wet heavy snow will push the tractor side ways (chains on all 4 may be in the future?) 20210207_103432.mp4 20210207_103444.mp4 20210207_103923.mp4 20210207_104000.mp4

6 points4-5 inches down and starting to taper off. I think I better put the dog in and get a horse out.
-
6 pointsSame here Jeff. About 3" of wet clingy stuff on top of the 13" we got earlier this week. Definitely a plow snow this afternoon. Woody showed up for breakfast this AM.

6 pointsI have a receiver that goes on the front of my spray tractor that I use to add a couple of suitcase weights to the front when my sprayer out back is full. It also works well with a hitch. I think I got it off of flee Bay but I really can’t remember. They also have some on there that just have a regular hitch pin hole that works for a trailer ball I think.

5 pointsWelcome to the forum. Members here will have answers to all those questions (and to questions you never asked)! Ask away. Most important is to look around the forum and get familiar with the different parts. Use the search tool to look for old posts that may cover your issues. Check the documents section for the user and parts manuals for your machine. And the classifieds. There is a vendor section as well. These are folks that sell new parts and accessories as well as used ones they've either refurbished or confirmed are good for reuse. Many of the parts like bearings, belts, bushings, electrical components, and the like were "standard off the shelf" at the time of manufacture and have new replacement equivalents readily available today from different suppliers. The Kohler engines still have good support, especially for the more recent models like yours. I hope you machine works well for you. (Note, too, as you read old posts, that there is often some subtle and not so subtle joking around among the members. Join in.)

5 pointsI'm sure you are right. I would love to have one with a small loader and one with....... Well it sure didn't take long for y'all to corrupt me. Well that's the story at least.

5 pointsNo wonder it looks like new. It belonged to a little old lady that only drove it to .......

5 pointsJust finished up... Look at my plow banks black and red/brown/green, only if the ground was frozen, lots of my "asphalt millings" and other gravels in the grass now and lots of grass/sod moved 10' or more , why I prefer a blower when conditions are right, ... I will add the videos to my other red tractor thread.
-
5 pointsLike was said, the ball needs to be high enough to get the jack up. The rear one here was made by 1Niederfan from Michigan...also one of our vendors. The front hitch was made by Shorts. Sometimes it is easier to push the boat trailer...easier on the neck also.

4 pointsYouser...I thought my 54"ers were wide. That brute should have some side push when angled.

4 pointsSpent some time messing around outside with both our go-to machines. Trina used her 867 to move a few loads of wood from shed to basement. I got the 61" plow from @wallfish mounted on the Cinnamon Horse C160. Also installed some new plow springs I had picked up from @76c12091520h Brian. WOW is it wiiiiiiiiiide. Seems to have plenty of power to push although I was only moving maybe 3 or 4 inches. I did push back some snowbanks and that went fine. The right side of the big plow was already tweaked back a hair. I kissed a boulder and now it's a bigger tweakage. No worries. I'll order up a cutting edge off the jungle site and get that mounted up ASAP.
-
4 pointsYou don't need to install a WH OEM belt. I've used Napa green or blue TSC belts with no issues. See if you can get the I.D. of the tractor and the number of the belt he put on. Also pics with the belt guard off will let us see if there are any other issues going on. you really have to glaze and wear out the pulleys badly to be an issue.
-
4 pointsDidn't get any seat time this morning, most of what fell didn't accumulate on the driveway but I did have to sweep some snow off the satellite dish for the internet so I could get on RedSquare.
-
4 pointsLowell makes some very nice hitches for the rear of a Wheel Horse at a reasonable price. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product-category/hitches/ Several members have made up hitches that clip into the front Atach-A-Matic where the mule drive goes which make backing a boat up much easier.
-
4 pointsOh I plan on becoming a supporter, because I know thats what keeps this great site going! I will get lots of pictures and start a new thread when I get started on it.
-
4 pointsNice work. The axle bracket looks better. It probably doesn't make a difference on tractors, but to prevent wear on the sidewalls, the open end of the cross chains should be on the outside away from the tire. Can you see the difference? The right one is on correctly. The left one should be flipped over.

4 pointsUsed the FEL to blow my driveway open about 4’ into the grass. The way the snow machine we call Lake Michigan is going, it won’t matter in a day or so.
