Made a little custom addition to the BIG Girl. Took the original face plate off and created a new one. Split a cheap Bluetooth speaker and was able to adapt it very carefully to create a cool radio. This is rechargeable and can be used at shows when I get bored. Designed a custom mounting bracket in AutoCAD and then had it laser cut / bent. Just so nobody gets upset, I didn't destroy a "true" Wheel Horse radio.

I made it this far today.

With little kids running around leaving them where they are at is probably best. Years ago you could just jumper them and be done with it but they got wise to it. Now they have to be in the circuit in order for the doors to operate. Here's my simple fix. They I make sure the reversing sensitivity to just barely enough to allow the doors to operate properly. You could try Handy Dons idea. One is a transmitter, the other a receiver. Try switching them around. I'm thinking that will do the trick.

Like stated above list them in our classifieds and see if some one can make them live on or use parts to make another tractor live. Many people do wonderful things with "junk" tractors. Just for an example, I turned this tractor. Into this beast of a machine.

After a couple of days of plowing and snowblowing, a few maintenance issues to address. Needed to add some air to the fluid filled wheels, they seemed to be a bit soft and was worried they might blow the bead. Lost one of the roller chains on a front wheel, so put that back on. One of the the wheels on the blower broke off, so I had to put the skid back on, until I can get it rewelded. Adjusted the skids on the plow now that I've got a good base built up on driveway. Dropped it down so now I can scrape the surface. Had a lot of seat time today 😃

My workshop doors work on the Kiss principle. No electric gizmos. No problems.

It's not as easy as simply by-passing a circuit. You have to install an electronic generator of some sort. Don' know much about it, only read about it. Besides, with the grand kids, they should probably stay where they are.

So the other day, I learned that Poppy’s big ‘ole fatty tires are terrible in the snow. Big shocker! Let’s see how the 27” loaded Interco’s work, huh?

I stay stuck right on top. Why do it today when I can do it at the last minute when it absolutely has to be done!!! It's a great motivator (my wife doesn't agree)

If I lived closer, i would be happy to come and get them. Maybe someone over that way could do the same. Put them on the for sale page for free or a modest amount and see what happens. A lot of us hate to see anything get scrapped, and with so many interchangeable parts, There are useful parts on your father's tractors that can live on and be appreciated by someone. Anyway, you made me smile as i remember how my dad had to rig stuff up around the farm. If all you want is a run and drive tractor, a 99 dollar harbor freight engine will mount up and run the transmission, but a mower works best with a heavy bearing Kohler..You can look at the members map and see that there are guys in your area. I recently got a C-160 that was a dad's tractor and the son futzed around with it for two years and no start, This guy was building hot Chevys and the tractor confused him so it went for a song. Anyway, the trouble with the charging system was just a bad connector that looked good, so I did a complete simplified wiring system and she goes like a champ. I took the time to text him back and explain how his dad's tractor was now a worker and how happy it made me to keep it going..

My garage door has safety "eyes" that will reverse it, if something gets in the way. At certain times of the day, the door won't close. The light just blinks. This first happened about 3 years ago during summer. I narrowed the problem down to the sun shinning into one of the eyes in the afternoon. I raised the eyes, problem fixed. Every winter I have to lower them back down a bit. I suppose the sun is at a different angle. Then raise them again about 6" in the summer. Funny thing is, I built this garage in '93. Never had a problem until the last few years. Maybe I shouldn't of had the tree trimmed. Just another one of the worlds problems you can think about while drinking your morning coffee.

My dad had Wheel Horses as long as I can remember, as a kid we would "drive" around the yard with them while he walked next to us. I remember getting one stuck while plowing snow as a "light" kid, and using one for pulling logs from the back woods for firewood. Now many horses later I have to clean out the estate, he had two-ish tractors, as in 2 units pieced together from parts of other tractors as well a couple of plows and a snow blower. He used them up, and wore them out so there is little hope in restoring them, the mower decks were shot and he mainly pulled around a cart and graded the driveway with the last running unit all while riding side-saddle in his late 80s. He was always charging the batteries because he couldn't get the alternators to work anymore, it kept him busy. I figured they would go to scrap with the rest of the metal he has around the yard.

Wrap with rope and cover that with epoxy? Clear epoxy and leave the rope show if you pick a cool rope?

I've got mine up in the garage rafters facing each other...works great!!! No little kids. BTW, did I ever tell you what I think about OSHA???

That's exactly where I mounted the "Safe Eyes" on all three of my door openers. When I have a loaded trailer hooked and in use, I park with the trailer in and the truck out and close the door down to the trailer tongue.

Can you build some dark “blinders”?

Evening, all. After finally getting my little Ranger to actually run half decent, I took it for a little yard ride. Slowly tracking down parts for it, have a belt cover now, still need to locate a fender pan and possibly a steering wheel. But here's my question.. Can anyone think up some way to repair the original wheel? I considered a LOT of friction tape, then fit one of those old style steering wheel leather covers tight over it.. The tractor supposedly burnt years ago and all that remains of the wheel is a metal hoop. Being a Ranger, of course, the wheel is deeper than the normal WH. I've yet to find one to replace it. I have other columns but it would look rather goofy with a taller column and GT size wheel. Anybody have another interesting idea short of a quarter mile of tape?

added yesterday another Charging Coil in the Spare. So that it can also be used as a mobile Charger Generator.. aand back in Service with sensefully improved Charging System. Than Max today came along with his newest „toy“ The proud Owner of this Landy Discovery In Full Rally Setup - but even Road legal. Little Work must be done, but a cool Base setup. nice.. 👍 at least we both finished quick his new 20To. Bill, you have discovered the best way to look into your transmission. You can see the differential and maybe the mushroom gear through those holes. If those gears look clean, take a long screw driver and see if you can insert it and reach the bottom of the casting. Try to scrape a little and see if you bring up any sludge. If so, flushing may not clean that out. It is probably safe to say, your 1989 horse has never had the transmission fluid changed. It all depends on what you can see in there. If you think you should open it up to really clean, I would still do a good flush, but for longer then a few minutes...20 to 30 minutes is better. Do not drive it around on your lawn...if the seals start leaking during the flush, you lawn may show where you drove it. Street, sidewalk, neighbors lawn you don't like...or put rear end on blocks would be best. To answer your question about complex maintenance...depends on amount of use and what type. I think 1 to 5 years and check it periodically would be safe.

Those of Kevin's in post are R4 industrial tires not so much traction without lots of weight and 4wd, they are more for wear resistance, and I tried the Deestone style for whatever reason they are not a snow tire without chains, but ever since going OTR in my general experiences so far 100% 4 seasons without chains but i do have them fluid filled and iron weights.

I put the wide Deestones from the 520 on a little feller. I asked the Mrs to sit on it for a picture, but she got suspicious when I went to the back of the tractor I keep getting those rolling pin headaches........

I've been through all four of those in the past but nowadays I find it easier to just bounce back and forth between the top and the right hand side...

I had two D-250's up til a couple years ago.One ran great.One was for parts,but complete.Kinda tough to find parts for.Needed a mechanical fuel pump.Found a brand new one on E-bay.Needed points and condenser.Ended up buying used ones.Some people said tune up parts from a certain model Renault would work.My old time NAPA dealer could never identify the parts.The D-250 sure is a super heavy duty tractor.When you sit on one,all other WH'S seem tiny in comparrison.Water cooled 4 cyl.I guess tranny was like 10 speed.Mine had front hydraulic taps.3 point hitch.Real nice toy to have ,but I wouldn't depend on one as a worker due to parts availabilty.Would I ever buy another one?? Certainly,After all,I am a glutten for punishment.

I'm king of the procrastinators. I made an exception once and did a report in high school the day it was assigned. All I did was worry for weeks as to whether I did it right. No time to care when the time runs out so - delay. Today, cleaned the P216 pan. Some water contamination in the bottom - brown and didn't react to brake cleaner so had to wipe it all out with a towel. Last owner.... Cleaned the rear head and sanded the surface - I use the concrete floor as the level says it's flat. I know.... Attached the head. Out of time. Off tomorrow at 6 to obtain Wheel Horse #4 which will become WH project #3. 4 hour road trip.

Gear transmissions with 1-1/8" crankshaft use 4" OD engine pulley #7466. Hydro transmissions with 1-1/8" crankshaft use 5-1/4" OD engine pulley #7443.

Can't make it tomorrow, weekend you know. I'm thinking I might be thinking of doing something. Can we put this off for a few days, I will let you know when if I get around to it in a few days..

How about that plastic “dip” stuff? @Oldskool just used it on some handles in his screw build thread...

Holes are only drilled as far as screw in auger will pull it in. Since yoke will be tapered in thickness from about 1-7/8” on bottom to about 1” on top as one planes back holes emerge free of tear out. lots of planing again.

It sould be all in and hooked up tomorrow. Maybe a test drive on sunday. Temperature permitting

@ACman that is a sweet 63 and thanks for sharing. Also yes i love the OTR's ive used them on two of my horses. The gorilla glue is a good idea and is definitely one im gonna have to keep in mind and may try out.

I have no clue if this works in real life, but I did some math, according to the difference in height of the belts. I came up with 103.5889, or maybe 104”.

I must add that when I ran into the plastic-wrapped and rolled newspaper buried under the snow, well, that wasn't pretty. Funny, yes; pretty, no.

Although I'm late and they're history, here's my contribution of an old photo. If I may comment on tires to push snow, I have a set similar to pullstart's Post #2. Mine are 24x12-12 and they are useless and only fit my yellow machine. I once liked 23x10.5-12 Deestone Ags with premium chains but I now favor 25x10-12 ATV tires with low psi and a 4" pulley on the engine

I spent month's digging thru ignition parts books for these. Never could match up a thing. And that's without the annoyance of a paving contractor screaming about the price of a socket set in front of me! I think there is some availability out of Europe. @Stormin ?? There is a reason you don't see Renault cars running around the USA anymore.
