I been fortunate all my life to have a wife who despite having a full time career , always cooked and did the household chores for all of us everyday. Sadly for her though, her condition is deteriorating faster than anticipated or expected specially now being a bit restricted with her freedom of travel. Although I am always here to help her with all I can, it is time that I learn the cooking part of it so I can not only help her with it now but more importantly being able to do it when she no longer can. It was met with some resistance, and it was a sensitive thing to bring up since losing her independence is worse than anything else she is going through. We however came to the agreement that is is time to do it, so everyday I am now an apprentice cook for dinner with her guiding my every step, and actually being very patient and good about it. At first I could see her hiding a few tears as we started but now she seems to actually be enjoying the process. I actually am enjoying learning this new skill despite the reason I am doing it. Hopefully we can just do it together for many years to come.

Was on my way to Home Depot and passed this at the end of someones driveway at the street . On my way back home it was still laying there so I chucked it in the trunk thinking I could probably strip some parts or at the very least add something to my scrap Aluminum can in the garage . A quick look over showed that the tank had been dyed blue which I assume from the contents that only the bottle of oil was poured into the tank . I let the oil drool out of the tank and rinsed with some straight gas and poured in a little 40:1 Tru fuel and on the 3rd yank , it fired up and ran pretty decent . The spool was missing and it's a curved shaft with no clutch , but hey ... the price was right ! I'll rebuild the Walbro carb and cobble together a spool and keep it around for a spare .

That’s exactly what I did when I purchased an EZ Rake and restored it. I wasn’t sure how I was going to mount it because the brackets it came with clearly were not for a Wheel Horse. Then the mule drive idea came into play and it works great. I used a lift tube from a snowblower to raise it. I have a pull behind spring tine de-thatcher that I’m thinking about mounting off a mule drive as well. Then I can de-thatch and vacuum up the thatch in one pass.

Got anything you do to make it run better, lets hear it! I do this, inscribe a "witness mark" on rear hubs and axles. A quick look to make sure lines line up will may help to see if hub is coming loose.

Finally finished some of my fuel filter brackets. Now I only need 4 more.

Did a few minor Works this Weekend. firstly painted the rear Seat Pan with structured Paint and after with Ral3003. While removing the Seat, to rework the Pan, two of the Seat Screws in the Seat are broke out. I found in my collection 4 boarded nuts, they fit perfectly in the now open Holes, than i decide to exchange all the nuts to M8. So i pointwelded them in and repainted the Seat bottom after that action again in Black to prevent Rust. I like it how the Structure turns out. Because i see last ride again few dribbs oil on the Floor, i changed the rear seal on left side. With the pic i was able to remove the old Seal, that depends just few seconds. while rubber loosened itself, a good choice to do that before doing any Winter Tasks. The Seals i bought are perfectly Fit, thanks to @stevasaurus for the collected Dimensions you gave me. With new Seals on, i remounted the painted Wheelhubs back on. a fine film of Coppergrease will hopefully help for later changes, to remove the hubs as easy as they loosening now. I decided to have an gap of 5mm between the Hubs and the Gearbox, to be able to remove them again with the Pulley remover i have, even if they rotten on. Back in with the Black tip painted Wheelscrews, so i just have to Wait for the Rear RIM‘s New tyre‘s are allready onsite. To tuneup the Seatpan optics a little more in optics, i decide to use a black border protection, what looks pretty nice. preheated with hot air Gun it fits smoothly in the shape. Next Task is to find two new Rubber stops, the fit in the holes above the Seatpan, because the old are squeesed hardly. At least i remounted the yesterday‘s reworked Pullstart cover, because the rope rips and i must rewind it, i decide to rework it at once. I love my Horse...😍

Both have a place in the world. I'm normally a fan of mayo but sometimes you just need that extra little "zing" Miracle Whip offers. Interesting idea. Thanks for sharing. I'll try to call BBT a "house maid". In about 3 weeks I should be awake and able to let you folks know how it went.

Wheel studs and lug nuts. Every tractor we have has them. Every tractor we build will get them. Sooooo much easier to swap tires around or remove for maintenance and repair.

Yesterday's walk was a mountain across the street. Bill Merrill Mountain. We've been there a few times this year. Great hike. Nice view. Good calorie burn. Lovely place to explore.

They fit inside perfectly! I run a pair on the inside and Wheel Horse type 50# cast weights on the outside for a total of 76#’s on each side.

This will likely be a build that’s as fast as EB’s Colossus, or my dump truck build. But I have this kid here who wants to build something.

So I've got two more four-legged hooved animals in the barn. Not Horsies this time though. After my uncles were done going through the items in my grandfather's estate that had no specific disposition in his will these were left. Two nearly identical JD 110s. His plan was to restore them, grandma basically said I can take any of the tractors except the almost new Simplicity and do whatever I want with them. I'm going to fix one and try to sell it. I'm going to keep the other and try to finish his project. The choice of which to sell and which to keep was easy, one has a Techy, one has a K181. Indian boy is going to leave, The Kholer one is going to stay.

Right on, I understand where you’re coming from. I’ll admit this IS my first kohler head gasket, and our race bikes were all newer technology... so maybe I’m completely wrong, it’s happens daily, just ask my wife. 😂

You might want to retorque the head bolts AFTER installing the spark plugs, they seem to start much better with the plugs in.

Opening jars at room temperature just before they're put into the refrigerator makes life much easier, honey can you open this for me. Since instructing the house maid to do this procedure I now get more seat time.

Tried a new procedure on a restored late 60's dash panel. It's not powder coat and it's not painted. I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know what you think (the top part in particular). I have more of these to do.

Quite a few people use the dumpster at my shop. I don't care I get charged the same every month wether it's empty or overflowing every week at pickup. All I ask is they fill the nite before pickup so I have room for my construction garbage. Went to lock up the other nite and some idiot was stuffing a almost brand new four stroke weed eater in it. Turns out the guy was trashing it cause he couldn't figure out how to put new line on it! How stupid is that!?! ..... had to be a couple a hundred new right? Needless to say I picked it for backup and insulted Google on how to restring it.

We have one of those rolling mechanics seats at work, but one of the wheels has been broken for a long time and it has a bad habit of dumping me over backwards when I least expect it. Yesterday was an extremely slow day, so boredom took over. I started digging in the junk pile behind the shop, and came up with a coil spring and brake rotor off of an F150, and a hub assembly off a half ton Chevy. Little bit of welding and a reproduction tractor seat and I now have a new chair. Just the right height for doing brake jobs on the ground when we don’t have a lift available, and would probably work great for wrenching on the Horses as well

BCGold: Ugh. In the proverbial “Mayo vs Miracle Whip Battle” I see what side you’ve chosen! LOL. When I got married my wife banned Miracle Whip from the house. The guys I hunt with heard the story and there’s always a jar on our camp grocery list. Bless their cold hearts! Of course her family also had red tractors on their farm whereas our farm had green. It’s a long story, but that’s how I found myself on the Red Square web site! Cheers! Dave

If you are like the rest of us you will have to live 500 years to finish the projects you have Now I don't know about you but I ain't dying Just in case i have started tagging my stuff cause the kids will never figure out what this junk is.

That has been our experience over the past half dozen years. We have taken turns being caregivers, fortunately one of us has been healthy enough to look after the other at any given time. My father in law was a chef and our son is a chef, cooking ability seems to skip a generation on my wife's side of the family. However, she does have some great take-out phone numbers on speed dial.

That is fantastic! One question: Do you know a guy who can sharpen your kitchen knives?
  29. 4 points
Agree the wheel weights and filled tires do not add any radial load to the axle bearings. I have no experience with FELs, but simple geometry tells me adding a FEL to a tractor decreases the load on the rear axles and bearings and increases the load on the front spindles and wheel bearings. Traction can be increased by adding weight and/or increasing the surface contact area(adding duals). Just remember the traction is the shear pin that must break before an axle breaks, a hub key shears, or a drive gear tooth breaks. Dual wheels should increase traction and increase stability with the wider stance. Increasing weight on the rear wheels will increase traction and also increase rolling momentum with the heavier flywheel effect. This will increase starting and stopping forces.

When I first married, my wife and I were both attending full time higher education so my parents offered us to stay with them through our education. Both my mother and her mother were there at that time so I told my loving wife that she had access to the two best cooks in the world and perhaps she could rub elbows. So she did! But alas nothing rubbed off. We later separated for lots of reasons besides decent meals... One of my sons recently commented that she still hadn't learned how to cook, 40 years later! No matter how great the soil you just can't grow anything if the seed won't sprout! My youngest son always enjoyed cooking with me and is now the executive chef in the largest local restaurant. So there is hope where there is interest! From your obvious interest and from what I've seen of your posts you will do well indeed! If there's anything I can help with you are always welcome to reach out. I did rub elbows with both my Mother and Grandmother! Some of it DID rub off! Today there is SO much online and SO far beyond anything I was exposed to in my younger years!

If you have a Harbor Fright () near you get one of those small furniture dollies. You can place the loaded tire/wheel on it and roll it into position and move it around to get the wheel on the studs. That what I do and it beats lifting that loaded wheel up and trying to line up the holes.

I have just purchased a tractor with loaded rears. The owner loaded them with RV anti-freeze. The 23x10.5x12’s hold 6 gallons each. They are Deestone Ag’s and do not look like 23-10.5 to my eyes but that’s what it says on them. Think that the 23-10.5’s should hold 7-8 gallons so my eyes may not be to far off! Any way the RV anti-freeze is 8.417 lbs per gallon for just over 50lbs. Per tire. Also have the 50lbs wheel horse weights for a total of 100ish pounds per side. It is non toxic, has rust inhibitors and works. I like it.

You can do the same thing I do on table saw top. After cleaning it I use paste wax. Let dry and buff it throughly. Material slides nicely through it, will not rust if something spills on it ( biggest problem here are coffee cups). I re wax it usually every month. All tool metal surfaces are treated like that.

When seeking a solution to a problem it is best to look inside. In this case you should look inside your tires, if you liquid fill the rear tires you can achieve a great deal of weight gain at very little cost. RV Antifreeze is my solution. SIZE GALLONS Per Tire WEIGHT in POUNDS 16x6.50-8 2.0 21.4 18x7.00-8 3.0 32.1 18x8.50-8 3.4 36.4 18x9.50-8 4.0 42.8 23x8.50-12 5.5 58.9 23x10.50-12 6.8 72.8 6-12 3.6 38.5

RK has RV stuff that is -50 for just over $2. Wally world had Prestone -100 for $4. That tire place sounds like a no brainer. How much does sugar cost a pound? I like the tire place idea and use the sugar to make cookies!

Ok guys it's been 2 years and 2 4 speeds later so It was a long time coming for the 8 speed. The last 4 speed granaded at stevebos house with a 4500 rpm 5lb of boost launch in dirt. I'm pretty sure their are no more pinion gears left. I will tear into it when I get bored. But now I finally got the 1 1/8" 8 pinyhion 8 speed in it. That was the original plan years ago but didn't have the time to fit hi low lever and brake. Well it did 20+ with the 4 speed. Now I have it geared for 30+ mph. That after taking a smaller pulley back off It because it was too fast (62 mph). I still have to trim brake side cover but not yet.

@Ed Kennell I understand what you mean about the “religious experience” of taking game. I thanked her last night for providing for my family before I cut her open. You have to feel something while killing them. It’s part of the whole thing. Also while thanking her aloud, I pat her on the head. Mainly to make sure she was dead though!

A couple years back I went on a mission to find and use the best and most economical ways to add traction weight for garden tractors and I'm still using windshield washer fluid or RV antifreeze and whatever bargain weights I can find. I'm not sure if the RV antifreeze is worth the extra $$ if you get good low temp washer fluid. Calcium chloride solution with inner tubes is still on my list but I haven't actually used it yet. But I'm still interested in what everyone else thinks!

Much of the backfire after shut down is from hot spots in the muffler igniting the gas air mixture pumped out by the engine after the spark is turned off. That is why most modern engines have a fuel shut off solenoid in the carb that blocks flow of gas to the venturi .

I fitted the tachamatic bracket to my plow. Meas I can lock the frame securely when travelling. Works pretty well. The frame is held rigid for travelling from jib to job. Just got to sort the anti sway mechanism now. Also done the drop out catch locks by putting a threaded hole in the bracket so I can put machine screws in to stop the cams moving.

Best thing to do with a red oak log is make lumber with it. The slabs are firewood. Biggest problem for me is storing the lumber.
